North Dakota governor signs law banning nearly all abortions

North Dakota on Monday adopted one of the strictest anti-abortion laws in the country as Republican Gov. Doug Burgum signed legislation banning the procedure throughout pregnancy, with slim exceptions up to six weeks’ gestation.

In those early weeks, abortion would be allowed only in cases of rape, incest or medical emergency, such as ectopic pregnancy.

“This bill clarifies and refines existing state law … and reaffirms North Dakota as a pro-life state,” Burgum said in a statement. …

W.H.O. Launches World Immunization Week to ‘Catch Up’ On Child Vaccinations

The World Health Organization (W.H.O.) has launched World Immunization Week in order to conduct a “big catch-up” of child vaccinations for preventable diseases after falling behind during the Chinese coronavirus crisis.

According to data from the World Health Organization and UNICEF, some 25 million children did not receive at least one dose of vaccinations for preventable diseases such as diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis in 2021. This was an increase of 2 million children compared to 2020 and six million over 2019 rates, representing the largest sustained decline in child immunizations in the past three decades.

Prior to the coronavirus, 86 per cent of the world’s children received at least one type of vaccine, however, this figure dropped to 81 per cent by the end of 2021, which the UN said equated to 67 million children missing at least one dose of a vaccine and five million more children who have never received any type of vaccination.

“More unvaccinated kids leads to more outbreaks, which could derail progress made against diseases like measles and polio — diseases that we have worked so hard to reduce,” the UN said.

The W.H.O. placed the blame on the Wuhan virus for the sharp decline in vaccination numbers among children, with healthcare systems throughout the world abandoning routine procedures in favour of focusing on the coronavirus. School closures due to government stay-at-home orders have also been highlighted as a contributing factor, given that many children globally are jabbed at their schools.

“We need to act now to catch-up the millions of children who missed out on vaccines during the pandemic, restore essential immunization coverage to at least 2019 levels and strengthen primary health care to deliver immunization,” the W.H.O. said in a statement.

However, the campaign has drawn some backlash on social media, with many questioning the role of the W.H.O. in undermining trust in public health institutions.

“You wouldn’t have to do this ‘big catch-up’ you evil bastards if you wouldn’t have conspired to force people to get vaccinated in the first place. You destroyed trust in public health, perhaps permanently… and now you are trying desperately to extend your unelected power everywhere in the world,” Canadian psychologist Dr Jordan Peterson said.

The World Health Organization has also previously come under criticism for failing to heed early warnings from Taiwan about the Wuhan virus and therefore wasted critical time that could have been used to try to contain the virus locally in China.

The W.H.O. also initially mimicked CCP propaganda in claiming that there was no human-to-human transmission of the virus, thereby further delaying the global response to the outbreak in Wuhan.

Bud Light Boycott Slashes Sales by ‘Staggering’17%

According to market reports, sales of Bud Light beer have dropped 17 percent since it tried to raise sales by advertising with Dylan Mulvaney, a man who claims to be a woman.

The sales drop means that Anheuser-Busch, the Belgium-based brewer, is selling five bottles of beer for every six bottles it sold before it advertised with the self-proclaimed “transgender” man who displays himself as a giddy young girl.

“The latest sales data from NielsenIQ and Bump Williams Consulting shows that Bud Light sales fell 17% in dollars, while volume dropped a whopping 21% in the week ended April 15,” the New York Post reported on April 24, adding:

“These numbers are staggering,” according to an April 23 report from Insights Express, a beer-focused newsletter. “Right now this is an extremely difficult scenario for Anheuser Busch, the Bud Light brand and for AB distributors.”

Company officials have reportedly punished two executives for green-lighting the Mulvaney advertising.

The Wall Street Journal posted a chart showing the lurch downwards in Bud Lights sales — and the lurch upwards in sales of rival beers Coors Light and Miller Light:

The drop in sales was predicted by a Rasmussen poll of 1,041 adults, released on April 18. Fifty-four percent of Americans support a Bud Light boycott, including 53 percent of men, 57 percent of white respondents, 66 percent of Republicans, and 57 percent of people under age 40, the poll reported. Roughly one-third of people in each income group say they “strongly support” the boycott.

This spotlights Americans’ deep opposition to the elite support for Mulvaney’s transgender ideology, which seeks to suppress the popular and beneficial civic and legal distinctions between men and women, and boys and girls. That suppression would create many opportunities for government officials and their political allies to manage the resulting civic conflicts and personal damage for their economic and political advantage.

The beer boycott has triggered other boycotts against other companies that hired Mulvaney to sell women’s beauty, clothing, and hygiene products.

Russia to amend law allowing gender change on ID papers

An ability to change gender in a passport goes against national “constitutional priorities,” the justice minister has said

The Russian Ministry of Justice is to review national legislation in order to ban the changing of one’s gender in passports and other ID documents, ministry chief Konstantin Chuychenko told TASS on Monday. The existing practice of gender-changing on documents creates legal collisions and doesn’t fit Russia’s “basic principles” in national policy or “constitutional priorities,” he explained.

Russia permitted gender change in 1997. In 2018, a mechanism was created that allowed a person to change their gender at will in any identity papers. Currently, one has to provide a simple clearance certificate from a medical institution to request such a document change. According to Chuychenko, a person does not need to go through gender-reassignment surgery to legally change gender in any documents.

Between 2018 and 2022, a total of 2,700 cases of legal gender-changes were registered in Russia, according to Chuychenko. In 190 cases, persons who’d legally changed their gender then officially registered a marriage in Russia, he added. Russian legislation does not allow same-sex marriages.

“We thus see the following: a person who changed their gender in a passport but remained physically the same, can register marriage, adopt children…” the minister told TASS in an interview, adding that legal conflicts also arise over the age at which such a person should be entitled to retirement benefits, or over what type of a penitentiary facility they should be placed in if sentenced for an offense.

“We are dealing not just with some legal collisions linked to gender change but inconformity with the current conceptual [policy] documents and constitutional priorities,” Chuychenko said. He did not elaborate on when proposed changes to the legislation would be prepared by his ministry or when they might come into force.

Constitutional amendments passed in 2020 after a nationwide referendum included a specific clause committing the state to protecting “the institution of marriage as a union of a man and a woman.”

Foreigners airlifted out; Sudanese seek refuge from fighting

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) — As foreign governments airlifted hundreds of their diplomats and other citizens to safety, Sudanese desperately sought ways to escape the chaos Monday, fearing that the country’s two rival generals will escalate their all-out battle for power once evacuations are completed.

In dramatic evacuation operations, convoys of foreign diplomats, teachers, students, workers and families from dozens of countries wound past combatants at tense front lines in the capital of Khartoum to reach extraction points. Others drove hundreds of miles to the country’s east coast. A stream of European, Mideast, African and Asian military aircraft flew in all day Sunday and Monday to ferry them out.

But for many Sudanese, the airlift was a terrifying sign that international powers, after failing repeatedly to broker cease-fires, only expect a worsening of the fighting that has already pushed the population into disaster.

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken said he had helped broker a 72-hour cease-fire to begin late Monday. It would extend a nominal truce that has done little to stop the fighting but helped facilitate the evacuations.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres meanwhile warned of a “catastrophic conflagration” that could engulf the whole region. He urged the 15 members of the Security Council to “exert maximum leverage” on both sides in order to “pull Sudan back from the edge of the abyss.”

Sudanese face a harrowing search for safety in the constantly shifting battle of explosions, gunfire and armed fighters looting shops and homes. Many have been huddling in their homes for nine days. Food and fuel are leaping in price and harder to find, electricity and internet are cut off in much of the country, and hospitals are near collapse.

Those who can afford it were making the 15-hour drive to the Egyptian border or to Port Sudan on the Red Sea coast. Those without means to get abroad streamed out to relatively calmer provinces along the Nile north and south of Khartoum.

Many more were trapped, with cash in short supply and transport costs spiraling.

“Traveling out of Khartoum has become a luxury,” said Shahin al-Sherif, a high school teacher. The 27-year-old al-Sherif was frantically trying to arrange transport out of Khartoum for himself, his younger sister, mother, aunt and grandmother. They had been trapped for days in their home in Khartoum’s Amarat neighborhood while fighting raged outside. Finally, they moved to a safer district farther out.

But al-Sherif expects things to get worse and worries his sister, aunt and grandmother, all diabetic, won’t be able to get the supplies they need. Bus ticket prices have more than quadrupled, so renting a bus for 50 people to get to the Egyptian border costs around $14,000, he said.

Left-wing protesters shut down the Montana House on Monday after transgender lawmaker Zooey Zephyr was barred from speaking.

The activists were protesting the censure of transgender Democrat Rep. Zooey Zephyr that was led by the Montana Freedom Caucus.

Rep. Zooey Zephyr is a biological male who wears ‘woman face’ and mocks real women.

He was censured and barred from speaking on the House floor until he apologized for making hateful comments about Republicans and threatening them.

The transgender lawmaker claimed that Republicans would have “blood on their hands” if they supported a bill to ban sex change surgeries and potentially-sterilizing hormone treatments for minors.

“This body should be ashamed,” Zephyr said while speaking about the bill on the House floor last Tuesday. “If you vote yes on this bill and yes on these amendments, I hope the next time there’s an invocation, when you bow your heads in prayer, you see the blood on your hands.”

The left-wing protesters shouted, “let her speak!”

The death of Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale [MKO] Abiola on July 7, 1998, remains a mystery. And like most modern political mysteries, it has inspired numerous conspiracy theories ranging from assassination by the military junta to neutralization in service of “northern interests”. But the most lasting of those conspiracies puts Abiola’s blood on the hands of a foreign body: the United States of America’s foremost espionage unit, the Central Intelligence Agency [CIA]. The circumstances surrounding his unofficial victory in the 1993 presidential elections and his refusal to accept General Ibrahim Babangida’s annulment of the elections led to a political crisis which attracted keen attention of foreign governments, including America. This was a time when African dictators feared and African citizens still believed in the self-assigned role of western governments to promote democracy, good governance and human rights in the so-called developing countries. The rumour mill, per this conspiracy theory, has it that America was intent on ending the crisis by putting a completely permanent end Nigeria’s democratic impasse.

THE KILLING TEA

This particular theory has been brought into the limelight once more, following the release of Tough Love: My Story of the Things Worth Fighting For, the memoirs of Susan Rice, a former US National Security Advisor who served the late Abiola the now infamous cup of tea before he died. At the time, Rice was the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs under the Bill Clinton administration and was visiting Nigeria and late MKO Abiola as part of American effort to assist Nigeria negotiate a transition to democracy after General Abacha’s death. She infamously poured Abiola a cup of tea around the time he got into the coughing fit that later led to his death. Susan Rice has been widely regarded at the person the CIA sent to poison Abiola. In July, former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode took to Twitter to describe her as “an operative and enforcer of the CIA and a dangerous spy her entire career”, following rumors she was going to be Vice President’s Joe Biden’s running mate. He then went on to castigate her for her perceived “role in the murder of MKO Abiola in 1998”.

SUSAN RICE’S TESTIMONY

Rice aimed to set the records straight with her autobiography. According to her, she met MKO Abiola on that fateful day purely on diplomatic grounds alongside other members of the US delegation including Bill Twaddell, US Ambassador to Nigeria and Thomas Pickering, Secretary of State for Political Affairs. “About five minutes into the conversation, Abiola started to cough, at first mildly and intermittently, and then rackingly with consistency… Noticing a tea service on the table between us, I offered Abiola, “Would you like some tea to help calm your cough?” “Yes,” he said, with appreciation, and I poured him a cup. He sipped it, but continued coughing,” she wrote in the memoir. She noted that the coughing intensified after this and a doctor had to be called to tend to him. The doctor then declared that Abiola was having a heart attack. An hour after reaching the hospital, the politician was pronounced dead. The apparent question then becomes: is there any merit to the conspiracy theory? Did America have sufficient interests in Abiola’s death to warrant such a conclusion? And do the circumstances surrounding his death lend credence to the idea that Rice served MKO Abiola the fatal tea? While there is no way to know for sure if his death was an American conspiracy or a heart attack caused by pre-existing medical conditions, one can take a look at known assassinations committed by the CIA for possible clues.

A HISTORY OF CIA ASSASSINATIONS

The CIA’s notoriety for high-profile assassinations spans decades, and even though the agency often denies responsibility for most crimes it is accused of, it remains a named culprit of countless murders and coups all over the world. In fact, this notoriety led to an expansive investigation by the US Senate in the 1970s, leading the then-President Gerald Ford to issue a directive in 1976 stating, “No employee of the United States government shall engage in, or conspire in, political assassination.” Of course, this was mostly to save face and make it look as though the United States government had the CIA on a leash, but the killings did not stop. The following are people whom the CIA killed or attempted to kill:

Patrice Lumumba of Congo – 1960

The CIA’s plot to kill the just-ousted Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Patrice Lumumba, is one for the books. On September 26, 1960, an American simply known as “Joe” arrived in Leopoldville [now Kinshasa]. Joe was not there to dance to Makossa. He came into the country carrying a kit that contained a poison meant to infect a target with a deadly disease similar to the kinds common to the region. The poison was to be slipped in the food [or the toothpaste] of a very important man: Lumumba. The CIA’s interest in Lumumba’s death was clear—he had a serious chance of returning to power, and if that were to happen, his pro-Soviet stance would harm America’s Cold War agenda. The directive, according to the agent, came from President Dwight D. Eisenhower himself. Though that plan was later abandoned at the last minute, the CIA got its wish when Lumumba died four months later at the hands of a local firing squad as a result of local squabble for power. And even though the CIA denied involvement in his eventual death, John Stockwell [former CIA agent] later admitted that the agency had been in touch with the killers the very night of the murder.

Salvador Allende of Chile – 1973

By the 1960s, the United States had expended resources trying to salvage its imperialistic hold over Chile. However, a certain leftist politician, Salvador Allende, was promoting rhetoric that sought to turn public opinion away from America. The Americans were bent on blocking his presidential aspirations When he ran for the presidency in 1964, the CIA funded the campaign against him with a whopping $3 million. He lost but eventually won in 1970. Before he took office, US President Richard Nixon authorized $10 million to fund his overthrow. Nixon ordered the CIA to find military officers in Chile who were willing to organise a coup. The CIA delivered cash, submarine guns and tear gas to the officers. After the coup’s failure, the CIA covered its tracks by denying connection to any of the officers. However, it continued to track potential coup plotters who could be recruited. Allende was overthrown in 1973, leading to his eventual death. Even though the CIA, as it does, denies involvement, Secretary of State Henry Kissinger revealed in a private conversation that “we helped [the coup plotters to create] the conditions as greatly as possible”.

Fidel Castro of Cuba – 1959, 1960, 1963 and Others

America was not particularly fond of Castro and it made it known. According to the Cuban leader, certainly with some exaggeration, the CIA made a total of 634 assassination attempts on his life. And those attempts give a clear example of the lengths America would go to in the bid to eliminate its perceived enemies. In 1960, the CIA poisoned a box of his favorite cigars with a botulinum toxin strong enough to kill anyone who as much as put one of the cigars in his mouth. No one knows what happened to the cigars and there was perhaps a mix up because they never got to Castro. Desperate to eliminate Castro, the CIA moved to work with two gangsters on the FBI’s Most Wanted List, providing them with six lethal pills. It is suspected the person who was to present the pills to Castro got cold feet. In 1959, the CIA recruited Castro’s lover, Marita Lorenz to assassinate him. She was given two pills to put in his drink. Each pill could kill in 30 seconds. However, Lorenz made an error in judgment by stashing the pills in a cold-cream jar that turned them unusable. Another CIA plot against Castro came in 1963 when agents planned to use a hypodermic needle concealed within a pen. This pen was to be presented to Castro by a highly placed Cuban official whom he trusted. However, John F. Keneddy’s assassination put the plans on hold, as the CIA directed its attention elsewhere.

At the height of the Cold War, the West became very interested in Iraq. It had been a bit relaxed as the country was ruled by a Hashemite monarchy installed by Britain at the end of World War I. However, this monarchy was overthrown in 1958 by General Abd al-Karim Qasim who had little regard for Britain and the US. The Western powers suspected he was aligned with the Iraqi Communist Party and became increasingly agitated. This reached a head when he withdrew from the Baghdad Pact, a clearly anti-Soviet alliance backed by America. So, the CIA worked covertly with the rival Ba’ath Party to plot against him. With a young Saddam Hussein leading the operation, gunmen ambushed Qasim on a street in Baghdad in 1959. However, Hussein missed and Qasim narrowly escaped. The CIA strengthened its alliance with the Ba’ath Party and agreed to consolidate its support for the coup plotters as long as they committed to murder all the country’s communists and leftist allies. A second attempt to overthrow Qasim succeeded in February 1963. He was executed afterwards.

THE ABIOLA FACTOR

What these instances say about the CIA is that while it puts much thought to its assassination plots, the strategies are often executed in ways that allow the agency “plausible deniability” i.e. conducted remotely enough to be able to credibly deny involvement. Whether it is by sending locals to do their bidding or secretly backing coups, the CIA has a history of hiding behind the scenes. It hardly makes sense, then, that the smartest, most covert plan would be to get three senior members of the United States government to offer Chief MKO Abiola poisoned tea in the presence of witnesses. This is simply not the way the CIA kills. More so, in most CIA assassination plots, the American intent is clear- a determination to stop the expansion of Soviet influence. America’s interest in the death of MKO Abiola belongs firmly to the field of conspiracy theorising. It is impossible to think of any reason why the United States would want to take out someone who, after all, was widely alleged, of course with no proof except for being Nigeria’s biggest “capitalist”, to have been a CIA agent.
