Planetary nebula Jones-Emberson 1 is the death shroud of a dying Sun-like star. It lies some 1,600 light-years from Earth toward the sharp-eyed constellation Lynx. About 4 light-years across, the expanding remnant of the dying star's atmosphere was shrugged off into interstellar space, as the star's central supply of hydrogen and then helium for fusion was finally depleted after billions of years. Visible near the center of the planetary nebula is what remains of the stellar core, a blue-hot white dwarf star. Also known as PK 164 +31.1, the nebula is faint and very difficult to glimpse at a telescope's eyepiece. But this deep broadband image combining 22 hours of exposure time does show it off in exceptional detail. Stars within our own Milky Way galaxy as well as background galaxies across the universe are scattered through the clear field of view. Ephemeral on the cosmic stage, Jones-Emberson 1 will fade away over the next few thousand years. Its hot, central white dwarf star will take billions of years to cool.

US defense official reveals timeline for tank deliveries to Ukraine

Army Secretary Christine Wormuth told reporters that the M1 Abrams may not arrive by the end of this year

Doubts linger regarding whether Ukraine will receive US-made M1 Abrams tanks in 2023, US Army Secretary Christine Wormuth told the media. She noted that the Pentagon is presently entertaining several scenarios, including building the needed hardware from scratch or sourcing it from some of the current operators.

Speaking during a Defense Writers Group event on Thursday, Wormuth assured journalists that Washington is looking at “what’s the fastest way we can get the tanks to the Ukrainians.”

The army secretary acknowledged that the handover will not be completed in a matter of weeks or months, but with “longer timelines involved.”

“I think there are options that are less than two years, less than a year and a half. But again we have to look at the pros and cons of each of them,” she said, adding: “it’s still to be determined as to whether tanks could get there by the end of the year.”

She explained that the lengthy wait time is due to the fact that the US will not only have to supply the tanks themselves, but also provide the necessary recovery vehicles, ammunition, and training for Ukrainian troops.

While building the hardware “from scratch” is not off the table, the Pentagon could also opt for modernizing existing tanks from its own inventory, Wormuth said. She added that Washington is looking at other options that would involve “countries that we’ve sold tanks to previously.” These nations may be better placed to “get tanks to the Ukrainians more quickly,” she explained, noting, however, that this “might disrupt relations with important allies.”

Speaking to Sky News in late January, days after US President Joe Biden pledged to provide Ukraine with 31 Abrams tanks, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky stressed that if they arrive as late as August, it will be “too late.” He also made it clear that a handful of tanks “won’t make a difference on the battlefield.”

Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said the planned deliveries of tanks were viewed in Moscow as “direct involvement” by NATO in the conflict. He added that Western armor will not change the outcome of the fighting, and that the tanks will “burn” if they arrive on the battlefield.

Senior officials at the US State Department are attempting to get the country “involved in another world war” with Russia, Arizona Congressman Paul Gosar tweeted on Friday. Gosar, Twitter CEO Elon Musk, and former president Donald Trump, have all named Victoria Nuland as the most dangerous among this group in recent days.

Responding to an RT article on Musk accusing Nuland of “pushing this war” in Ukraine, Gosar declared that the billionaire “is correct.”

“Both Nuland and Blinken have a deeply rooted irrational hatred of Russia, and they seek to get the US involved in another world war,” he continued. “These are dangerous fools who can get us all killed.”

In a follow-up tweet, Gosar wrote that “as a non-soldier, Nuland is quite willing to endorse violence and war.” The Republican lawmaker then quoted the article, which stated that Nuland had “endorsed regime change in Russia, celebrated the US’ destruction of the Nord Stream pipelines, and called for the indefinite flow of arms into Ukraine.”

As assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian Affairs in 2014,Nuland was largely responsible for orchestrating the pro-Western coupthat unseated democratically elected president Viktor Yanukovich. Nuland traveled to Kiev and promised military aid to the rioters, and was recorded plotting to install a successor to Yanukovich.

As Biden’s secretary of state, Blinken has promised to keep weapons flowing into Ukraine “for as long as it takes,” and advised Kiev in December not to seek the kind of negotiated settlement that would liken to a “phony peace.”

Gosar has been a persistent critic of the Biden administration’s Ukraine policy since Russia’s military operation began a year ago on Friday. However, although the Republican Party now controls the House of Representatives, there is little the Arizona congressman can do to change the administration’s course. A significant bipartisan majority supports continued military aid to Ukraine, with only 11 Republicans, Gosar included, sponsoring legislation that would cut funding for Kiev.

These Republicans are all allies of former president Donald Trump. In a campaign video released on Tuesday, Trump blamed the situation in Ukraine on Nuland and “others like her” in the Biden administration. Nuland, he said, was “obsessed with pushing Ukraine towards NATO,” adding that the conflict would have “never happened if I was your president.”

White House details new sanctions against Russia

US to hike tariffs on Russian metals and over a hundred more products

Washington is taking a new action against Moscow's mining sector byraising import levies on over 100 Russian metals, minerals and chemical products, the White House said in a statement published on Friday. The move comes on the one-year anniversary of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine.

According to the statement, the measures are “designed to target key Russian commodities generating revenue for the Kremlin while reducing US reliance on Russia.”

“Today’s action will result in increased tariffs on more than 100 Russian metals, minerals, and chemical products worth approximately $2.8 billion to Russia. It will also significantly increase costs for aluminum that was smelted or cast in Russia to enter the US market in order to counter harm to the domestic aluminum industry, which is being squeezed by energy costs as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine,” the statement read, without specifying further details. Earlier this month reports emerged that Washington planned to slapRussian aluminum with a 200% import tariff.

In addition, the US willimpose export restrictions on 90 companies from Russia, and other third countries including China, for allegedly “engaging in sanction evasion and backfill activities in support of Russia’s defense sector.” The move will ban the targeted companies from buying goods made either in the US, or elsewhere with the use of US technology or software.

According to the statement, US President Joe Biden is to sign the new restrictions later on Friday.

The US, along with other Western countries, imposed unprecedented sanctions against Russia over the past year in response to Moscow’s military operation in neighboring Ukraine. The measures affected trade, energy exports, investment, finance, and tourism, among other spheres of the Russian economy, saw hundreds of Russian individuals blacklisted, and roughly half of Russian foreign currency reserves frozen.

Russian metals and their producers have not been directly targeted by Western restrictions before, but many buyers have shunned imports from the country over the past months amid sanctions pressure. In December, Russian Trade Minister Denis Manturov said Moscow would beredirecting its metal exports from Western countries to alternative markets, with China, Türkiye, member states of the Eurasian Economic Union and CIS countries as priorities.

Every year, the United States sends billions of dollars in aid—and much more than any other country—to beneficiaries around the world in pursuit of its security, economic, and humanitarian interests.

Heading into 2022, U.S. foreign assistance was driven by various priorities of the Biden administration, including combating climate change, responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, and countering authoritarianism. But since Russia’s invasion in February of that year, Ukraine has become far and away the top recipient of U.S. foreign aid. It’s the first time that a European country has held the top spot since the Harry S. Truman administration directed vast sums into rebuilding the continent through the Marshall Plan after World War II.

Since the war began, the Biden administration and the U.S. Congress have directed nearly more than $75 billion in assistance to Ukraine, which includes humanitarian, financial, and military support, according to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, a German research institute. The historic sums are helping a broad set of Ukrainian people and institutions, including refugees, law enforcement, and independent radio broadcasters, though most of the aid has been military-related. Dozens of other countries, including most members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Union, are also providing large aid packages to Ukraine.

Much of the aid has gone toward providing weapons systems, training, and intelligence that Ukrainian commanders need to defend against Russia, which has one of the world’s most powerful militaries. Many Western analysts say the military aid provided by the United States and other allies has played a pivotal role in Ukraine’s defense and counteroffensive against Russia. U.S. and allied leaders consider Russia’s invasion a brutal and illegal war of aggression on NATO’s frontier that, if successful, would subjugate millions of Ukrainians; encourage Russian President Vladimir Putin’s revanchist aims; and invite similar aggression from other rival powers, especially China.

Still, Ukraine has requested certain advanced equipment, such as fighter aircraft, that the United States and other donor governments have been unwilling to provide, worried that doing so could escalate the war. NATO allies are particularly wary of being pulled directly into the hostilities, which would dramatically raise the risk of a nuclear war. However, as the fighting has progressed, they have steadily shed their reluctance to give Ukraine more sophisticated assets, such as battle tanks.

At the one year mark of the war, the Biden administration had provided or agreed to provide Ukraine with a long list of defense capabilities, including Abrams battle tanks, anti-aircraft missiles, coastal defense ships, and advanced surveillance and radar systems.

Wisconsin Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin on Thursday slammed the Food and Drug Administration for its ruling in favor of plant-based milk substitutes, signaling conflict ahead between the agency and a lawmaker representing the state synonymous with dairy farming.

The FDA ruled this week that U.S. manufacturers will be able to continue calling certain liquids "milk" even though they come from plant-based sources such as almonds and soy.

The ruling came over the protests of dairy farmers who seek to reserve the designation "milk" for true milk. The FDA said in its draft guidance that the "milk" label is "strongly rooted in consumers' vocabulary when describing and talking about plant-based milk alternatives."

Baldwin slammed the ruling on Wednesday. "I took a stand for Wisconsin dairy farmers by calling out [the FDA's] guidance allowing plant-based products to be labeled as 'milk'," she wrote on Twitter. "This misguided act hurts our farmers & we must protect the integrity of dairy products."

Posting a dictionary definition of milk as "an opaque white fluid rich in fat and protein, secreted by female mammals for the nourishment of their young," Baldwin wrote, "If you're wondering, the definition of milk hasn’t changed."

Wisconsin in 2021 led all states in number of dairy farms, with 23% of the U.S. total, and produced 14% of the national milk supply, which ranked second to California.

In a press release posted to her Senate website, Baldwin argued that "America's dairy farmers work hard to produce second-to-none products with the highest nutritional value, and plant-based products should not be getting away with using their good name."

Baldwin indicated she and Idaho Republican Sen. Jim Risch would be moving to override the proposed guidelines with legislation.

That act, according to the release, would "require the FDA to issue guidance for nationwide enforcement of mislabeled plant-based products within 90 days and require the FDA to report to Congress two years after enactment to hold the agency accountable for this update in their enforcement obligations. "

Baldwin's sharp criticism could signal a battle ahead over labeling between the regulators and the powerful dairy industry. Farmers have historically been among the more vocal American voting blocs, with presidential candidates and Senate hopefuls regularly prioritizing dialogue with farm owners and food producers throughout the country.

The FDA's guidance this week is meant in part as a solicitation of comments regarding the proposed changes. The administration will hear comments on the matter for 60 days, which could invite considerable pushback from dairy farmers mobilized to contest the proposed changes.

Part of the guidance, the FDA explained Wednesday, recommends that companies that use the "milk" label on plant-based drinks "include a voluntary nutrient statement that conveys how the product compares with" actual milk.

The FDA noted that it is "in the process of developing a draft guidance to address the labeling and naming of other plant-based alternative products."

This sounds exactly like something out of the State Dept playbook from an era when the U.S. military had the actual strength to back it up. However, against the current state of affairs, specifically the U.S. control over the western NATO alliance, sending additional troops to Taiwan just because the U.S. is upset about China and Russia’s relationship, is simply poking the Beijing dragon.

There are approximately 30 U.S. troops in Taiwan on a regular rotating basis. Nothing large or significant. However, immediately after China and Russia announce there is no distance or limit in their relationship, according to the Wall Street Journal, the Biden administration is sending an additional 200 U.S. military troops into Taiwan.

The planned increase would be the largest deployment of forces in decades by the U.S. on Taiwan, as the two draw closer to counter China’s growing military power.

With a decades-old military buildup gaining momentum, China’s People’s Liberation Army is increasingly engaging in aggressive maneuvers, sending planes and ships near Taiwan. Following Russia’s full-on invasion of Ukraine last year, the Pentagon has redoubled efforts to get Taiwan to adopt what some military specialists call a “porcupine” strategy, focusing on tactics and weapons systems that would make the island harder to assault.

The additional troops will be tasked with training Taiwan forces not only on U.S. weapons systems but on military maneuvers to protect against a potential Chinese offensive, the U.S. officials said. Ukraine is not misusing the tens of billions of dollars in direct financial assistance it is receiving courtesy of U.S. taxpayers according to a top Biden administration official.

Samantha Power, the administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), gave the public affirmation during a CNN live town hall on Thursday evening.

Her assurances came just hours ahead of the White House revealing it would give another $2 billion in military aid to Ukraine as its war with Russia officially hits the one-year mark, bringing the total amount of American military assistance to over $30 billion in one year.

The former Obama administration official further claimed Ukraine has made progress in working to root out corruption while officials are continually checking to ensure U.S. taxpayer dollars are used properly.

“Up until this point, we don’t have any evidence that U.S. assistance is being misused or misspent but, again, the key is not resting on anybody’s goodwill or virtue,” Power said.

She was responding to a question posed about Ukraine’s long history of corruption. “It’s checks and balances, the rule of law, the integrity of officials,” Power added were the key to her confidence in the Zelensky administration.

The U.S. has given more than $100 billion in military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine since the start of the war one year ago even as doubts have been expressed over the potential for corruption.

As Breitbart News reported, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry has been dealing with a string of corruption scandals, the latest one concerning excessive payments for food.

Other allegations included dubious military contracts with under-the-table kickbacks to deputy ministers, the sale of military equipment – including American hardware – to international buyers, and embezzlement from the national winter aid budget.

Last month President Zelensky sought to clear the air by sacking a string of officials in the wake of corruption allegations.

In acknowledging the constant allegations of corruption, Power explained the U.S. Government Accountability Office launched a new initiative to help Ukraine expand its auditing institution, which she said will be needed for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Power added the U.S. does not provide for resources like paying health workers or providing disability support to Ukraine unless officials see a receipt for an expenditure and acts on a basis of reimbursing Ukraine for its spending.

Some House Republicans have raised doubts about the continued U.S. support for Ukraine and questioned how the money being sent there is being used, seeking to begin an audit of the money trail, as Breitbart News reported.

A key measure of consumer prices showed inflation accelerating in January as spending, income, and saving surged.

The personal consumption expenditure price index jumped 0.6 percent in January compared with a month earlier, the Commerce Department said Friday. The prior month’s inflation rate was revised up from 0.1 percent to 0.2 percent.

Compared with a year ago, the personal consumption expenditure (PCE) price index was up 5.4 percent. The 12-month gain for December was revised up from five percent to 5.3 percent.

Economists had expected a much milder increase. The median forecast was for a 0.4 percent price increase month-to-month and a 4.9 percent increase for the year.

The annual and monthly figures indicate that inflation has accelerated. The revisions indicate that the apparent reprieve from inflation at the end of last year was less substantial than it appeared. The comparison with estimates indicates that economists have been underestimating the strength of inflationary pressures in the economy.

The PCE price index is used in the calculations of economic growth by the Commerce Department. It is often called the PCE deflator because it is subtracted from nominal growth in gross domestic product to calculate the real—meaning, inflation-adjusted—rate of growth.

The Federal Reserve uses the PCE price index as the basis for its two percent inflation target. Fed officials use the index when making the inflation forecasts—known as the Summary of Economic Projections—that are released at every other meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee.

The core PCE price index, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, also rose 0.6 percent compared with the prior month and the November to December increase was revised up from 0.3 percent to 0.4 percent. Economists had forecast a 0.4 percent gain from the prior month.

Compared with January of last year, core prices were up 4.7 percent, defying predictions that it would decline to 4.3 percent from the initially reported 4.4 percent year-over-year gain in December. That December figure was revised up to show a 4.6 percent gain.

Prices for goods and services both increased 0.6 percent compared with the prior month. Goods prices have been expected to moderate as spending shifts toward goods but goods inflation has been surprisingly persistent. Food prices rose 0.4 percent and energy prices increased 2.0 percent.

Compared with a year ago, prices for goods are up 4.7 percent and prices for services have risen 5.7 percent. Food prices have soared, rising 11.1 percent, and energy prices increased 9.6 percent.

After inflation appeared to retreat in November and December, many analysts concluded that the Federal Reserve’s rate increases had finally begun to take hold and put the economy back on a path to price stability, which the Fed defines as two percent annual increases in the PCE price index. In January, however, inflation surged higher and revisions to earlier months indicate that it had not faded as much as thought.

The consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.5 percent compared with the month before, a big step up in the pace of price increases from the 0.1 percent recorded for December, according to data released by the Labor Department last week. The December figure was revised up from the preliminary report showing the CPI had declined by 0.1 percent. Compared with a year ago, the CPI is up 6.4 percent. Those inflation figures all exceeded expectations.

The producer price index (PPI) jumped 0.7 percent compared with December, with goods prices rising 1.2 percent and services prices rising 0.4 percent. The figures exceeded expectations and indicated that the pace of inflation had increased from the month before. Compared with a year ago, PPI was up six percent.

The PCE report also showed that consumer spending rose 1.8 percent for the month, above the expected rise of 1.4 percent. Personal income rose 1.4 percent, more than the 1.4 percent median forecast. The personal saving rate increased to 4.7 percent from 3.4 percent in December.

UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has warned that “war is coming” to Britain, as he redoubled his demands that the government commit to more military spending.

Speaking ahead of the one-year anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces, Mr Wallace said the world is “definitely more dangerous, more unstable and more insecure” and therefore Rishi Sunak’s government must commit to increasing the defence budget of the nation.

In an interview with the Sun newspaper, Wallace warned: “Conflict is coming by the end of this decade… whether it is a cold war or hot, war is coming.”

“We just have to recognise that in order to deter you just have to be ready, you have to be equipped and you have to stand with your friends and your allies,” he said, adding that therefore “we need a greater proportion of the public spend on defence.”

Warning that the conflict in Ukraine could last for another year, Wallace continued: “We are not in for a period, we are in it until you defeat Russia and Ukrainians can go home. Britain’s message to Russia is we are not giving up and we are not going away.”

The battle over Britain’s defence spending will come to a head next month when the government’s finance chief, Jeremy Hunt will release his Spring Budget. Firing a metaphorical shot across the treasury’s bows, Wallace told the paper: “Freedom isn’t free.”

Ben Wallace is not alone in the defence community in lamenting the derelict state of the British Armed Forces, with Defence Committee Chairman in the House of Commons, Russia hawk Tory MP Tobias Ellwood saying last month that the military is in a “dire state” after cutting some 10,000 soldiers from its ranks.

Despite being able to find money to fund the so-far disastrous green agenda and sending millions in taxpayer money in foreign aid, including to Communist China, over the past decade, the Conservative government saw fit its first seven years in power to slash annual defence spending by £6.6 billion in real terms — a reduction of 14.6 per cent compared to the 2009-10 budget.

As a proportion of GDP, UK defence spending has been cut in half since the 1980s, according to an analysis from Sky News, which claimed that this has resulted in a decline in the availability of military equipment as well as the number of military personnel being reduced from over 300,000 active members in 1989 to just over 145,000 today.

In 2021, the government spent £45.9 billion on defence representing 2.2 per cent of the nation’s GDP, compared to 4.1 per cent in 1980 and approximately 8 per cent in 1956. Defence Secretary Wallace has reportedly called for the government to increase its defence spending by around £10 billion over the next two years in order just to put it on the same level prior to the inflation crisis.

Even though the nation has been grappling with a cost of living crisis, the UK has been one of the chief backers of the war effort in Ukraine, having sent nearly £4 billion to Ukraine in aid, £2.3 billion of which has come in the form of weapons, ammunition, or other military equipment over the past year, alone.

This figure will likely only increase, with the government admitting that it was actively considering shipping fighter jets to the nation following Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to London earlier this month.

Last week, Prime Minsiter Rishi Sunak announced that Britain will become the first Western nation to supply Ukraine with “longer range weapons”, believed to be missiles that could expand the conflict to the Crimean peninsula or even possibly the Russian mainland itself.

Pentagon unveils new major Ukraine aid package

The US has pledged to provide more weapons and equipment to the tune of $2bn, including several types of drones and munitions

Washington is shelling out another $2 billion to shore up the Ukrainian military, the Pentagon has announced. The US Department of Defense stressed yet again that the White House, along with its Western allies, will continue to support Kiev “for as long as it takes.”

In a statement on Friday, the first anniversary of Russia’s offensive in Ukraine, the Pentagon said that its commitment to supporting Kiev had “only strengthened” over the past 12 months.

The latest security assistance package places particular emphasis on additional unmanned aerial systems, including Switchblade 600 UAS kamikaze drones, as well as anti-drone and electronic warfare detection equipment. On top of that, Washington has pledged to supply Ukraine with an undisclosed number of missiles for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (M142 HIMARS) and 155mm artillery rounds.

The Pentagon said that unlike ‘Presidential Drawdown’, the weapons comprising the latest package will not be sourced from the US Army’s own stocks, but rather procured specifically from the manufacturers.

The DOD vowed to continue providing Ukraine with “capabilities to meet its immediate battlefield needs.”

Meanwhile on Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned US Ambassador to Moscow Lynne Tracy, issuing her a “formal demarche” over the “growing involvement of the United States in hostilities on the side of the Kiev regime.”

Moscow accused Washington of “pumping the Ukrainian military with arms and providing it with targeting information for strikes on Russian military and civilian infrastructure.”This proves that the US has effectively become a party to the conflict, the ministry said.

US and UK stall on jets for Ukraine

Washington and London both consider warplanes a longer-term defense strategy for Kiev

Neither the US nor the UK will give Ukraine fighter jets in the near term, officials from both countries have said. Kiev has demanded that NATO countries hand over their warplanes, but the Western bloc has sent mixed signals thus far.

Speaking to CNN on Thursday, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said that combat aircraft “are not the key capability” the Ukrainian military needs at the moment.

“F-16s are not a question for the short-term fight,” he elaborated. “F-16s are a question for the long-term defense of Ukraine and that’s a conversation that [US] President Biden and [Ukrainian] President Zelensky had.”

Biden met with Zelensky in Kiev on Monday, where the Ukrainian president reportedly asked his American counterpart to transfer F-16 fighter jets to his forces. Biden had previously rejected Zelensky’s pleas for the American-made fighters, simply telling reporters “no” when asked about the possibility in January.

Zelensky and his officials have demanded combat aircraftfrom multiple countries, including the UK. While former Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and Liz Truss have urged the government to donate a fleet of Eurofighter Typhoon fighters, Defense Minister Ben Wallace said on Friday that “we’re not going to send our own Typhoon jets in the short term to Ukraine.”

“Gifting a fighter jet comes with hundreds of people: engineers, pilots, training, electronic warfare,” he told Sky News on Friday. “The West is not going to be putting troops into Ukraine on those scales. The idea that we would put Typhoons in – we would have to send 200 [Royal Air Force] people and we’re not going to do that … at this current stage.”

Sunak said earlier this month that the UK will train Ukrainian fighter pilots, and Wallace said on Friday that London is prepared to supply Typhoon jets to Eastern European countries who send their own Soviet-era planes to Kiev.

Across the rest of the NATO bloc, national leaders have been more elusive on the potential supply of warplanes. The leaders of France and the Netherlands have both declared that the idea is being considered, while Italy was reportedly nearing a dealinvolving the transfer of five aging ground attack and fighter planes, before Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni ruled the possibility out on Tuesday.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has repeatedly shot down Ukraine’s requests for jets, and urged his allies last month against “entering into a constant competition to outbid each other when it comes to weapons systems.” However, Berlin initially refused to provide Ukraine with tanks, before succumbing to a pressure campaign led by Kiev and its most committed supporters in Eastern Europe.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Fresh from a meeting with China’s top diplomat and a U.N. Security Council session on Ukraine, Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel to Central and South Asia next week for international talks that will put him in the same room as his Chinese and Russian counterparts.

The State Department announced late Thursday that Blinken would travel to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan before going to India for a meeting of the Group of 20 foreign ministers from the world’s largest industrialized and developing countries, including China and Russia.

The trip comes as tensions have soared between the U.S. and Russia and between the U.S. and China over Russia’s war in Ukraineand Chinese assertiveness in the Indo-Pacific. All three countries are competing fiercely to outdo each other in global influence.

U.S. officials have been tight-lipped about the prospects for Blinken having sit-down talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang or Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in New Delhi. But all three will be present in the Indian capital for the G-20 meeting. The State Department has said only that no meetings are scheduled.

The last time the group met — in Bali, Indonesia, in 2022 — Blinken held extensive talks with China’s then-foreign minister, Wang Yi, that led to a summit between President Joe Biden and Chinese leader Xi Xinping in November.

And Wang, who has since been promoted, met with Blinken last weekend on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany, the first high-level talks since the U.S. shot down a suspected Chinese surveillance balloon and Blinken postponed a much-anticipated trip to Beijing.

A meeting between Blinken and Qin, who was formerly China’s ambassador to the U.S., would be their first in Qin’s current capacity.

The broader G-20 meeting is expected to focus on food and energy security, especially for developing countries, which have been hit by fallout from the Ukraine conflict. In Bali, a number of nations that have not outright condemned Russia for the war expressed deep concern about its impact on the prices and supply of food and fuel.

Before traveling to Delhi, Blinken will visit the Kazakh capital of Astana for talks with leaders there as well as a meeting of the so-called C5+1 group, made up of the former Soviet republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and the United States.

At that meeting, he will stress the U.S. “commitment to the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Central Asian countries,” the State Department said in a statement that mirrors the wording it has been using to support Ukraine against Russia.

Blinken will then go to Tashkent for talks with Uzbek officials.

Ukraine’s Ihor Kotvitsky,a lawmaker from Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk's People's Front party, has been accused of corruption for allegedly moving US$ 40 million to an offshore company through Ukraine’s state-owned Oshchadbank.

A Kyiv Post review of Kotvitsky’s 2014 assets declaration form found no such sum listed.

Serhiy Leshchenko, a member of Parliament for the Petro Poroshenko Bloc and a former journalist for Ukrainska Pravda, said that Kovitsky only declared the transaction six months past the legal deadline for doing so.

On Sept. 25, Leshchenko posted scanned copies of what he said were Kotvitsky’s original declaration and a corrected version on Ukrainska Pravda’s website.

Leschenko claims the documents showed that the cash was transferred to a Swiss bank account held by Panamanian company Kingston Group SA through Oshchadbank.

Both Kotvitsky and Interior Minister Arsen Avakov have brushed off the accusations.

“Leshchenko is a skilful manipulator,” said Avakov during a news conference in Kharkiv, adding that Kotvitsky was a “rigorous” taxpayer.

“For example, last year Kotvitsky paid 32 million Ukrainian hryvnia [US$ 1.49 million] of income tax. Everything else is manipulation,” claimed Avakov.

Kotvitsky told the Kyiv Post that “everyone distorts information in their own interests so much” that he did not wish to comment.

Oshchadbank denies any wrongdoing in making the transfer, claiming it had done its duty by reporting the transfer to the National Bank of Ukraine.

The glamorous wife of a prominent Ukrainian tycoon and politician 'carried £22 million in cash through a refugee border crossing into the EU', it is alleged.

The money - in US dollars and euros - was spotted by Hungarian customs in the baggage of the spouse of controversial ex-MP Igor Kotvitsky, 52, say reports.

A picture shows the suspected cash haul.

A criminal case has been opened into a failure by Anastasia Kotvitska to declare the removal of the large sum from the war-ravaged country, say reports in Kyiv.

Kotvitsky - once Ukraine’s wealthiest MP - said his wife was leaving the country to give birth, but denied reports she was carrying $28 million and 1.3 million euros.

'All my money is in Ukrainian banks, I did not take anything out,' he said, before closing his social media account.

A statement from him carried on the social media of his Swiss-educated daughter Violetta, 24, said the story was 'fake and rumours'.

Kotvitska, who reportedly travelled with two Hungarian men and her mother, has not commented on the frontier incident.

The allegation is that she did not declare the huge cash sum exiting Ukraine at the Vilok checkpoint, but the money was found by Hungarian customs officers, said Obozrevatel newspaper.

She then made a declaration that she had brought the sum into Hungary, an EU country

Sometimes you have to wonder what the globalists are up to. A bombshell report from Bloomberg earlier this month revealed the lab-grown meat strongly supported by Bill Gates has cancer cells.

You are reading this correctly. You are devouring glorified cancer tumors when consuming fake meat.

Joe Fassler, the author of the piece, revealed that in order for lab-grown meat companies to produce what they “cultured meat,” they utilize what are called “immortalized cells.” These cells, in some cases ,are fully cancerous.

The big honking asterisk is that normal meat cells don’t just keep dividing forever. To get the cell cultures to grow at rates big enough to power a business, several companies, including the Big Three, are quietly using what are called immortalized cells, something most people have never eaten intentionally. Immortalized cells are a staple of medical research, but they are, technically speaking, precancerous and can be, in some cases, fully cancerous.

Despite this, leading scientists claim you cannot get cancer when you eat fake meat.

If we wanted to, we could eat malignant chicken tumors by the bucketload. “It’s essentially impossible for a cell from one species to gain a foothold in the tissues of another species,” says Dr. Robert Weinberg. “So even if one were to take highly malignant cells from a cow and drink them, I don’t see what the problem would be.”

The FDA, as previously reported by the Gateway Pundit, also asserted lab meat was safe to eat back in November.

The problem with this assumption according to National Pulse, is that these “immortalized cell lines” reproduce forever, just like cancer. This means they are effectively cancer.

These cell lines have been used in scientific research but never to produce food before. So the assertions by scientists that cancer cells in lab grown meat cannot cause cancer are not exactly based on factual information.

We also cannot forget what happened during the COVID-19 pandemic when the experts lied at multiple turns and cost millions of workers their jobs and even their lives. Trusting them on health matters can be questionable.

Cancer is not the only potential danger from eating fake meat. The Children’s Health Defense Fund reported on a study by Impossible Foods in September which demonstrated that rats had serious complications such as unexplained weight gain and anemia.

In 2019 the manufacturing company, Impossible Foods, applied for permission to market the burger in the EU and the U.K.

However, the results of a rat feeding study commissioned by Impossible Foods and carried out with SLH suggest that the burger may not be safe to eat.

SLH is the substance that gives the burger its meaty taste and makes it appear to bleed like meat when cut. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) initially refused to sign off on the safety of SLH when first approached by the company.

The rat-feeding study results suggest that the agency’s concerns were justified. Rats fed the GM yeast-derived SLH developed unexplained changes in weight gain, changes in the blood that can indicate the onset of inflammation or kidney disease, and possible signs of anemia.

(AFNS) &ndash; The U.S. Air and Space Forces have partnered to create the new Space Test Course, which will instruct Guardians on test and evaluation processes, in order to conduct robust and methodical system testing on space-flight equipment at the Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base, California.

Space Force Vice Chief of Space Operations Gen. David D. Thompson and Air Force Vice Chief of Staff Gen. David W. Allvin signed a memorandum of agreement Feb. 23, establishing the new course.

“Ensuring our Guardians can effectively test and validate space-flight equipment is crucial to mission success and protecting the space domain for the Joint Force,” Thompson said.

This agreement marks the culmination of a multi-year effort that began in 2018 when what was then the Air Force Space Command stood up a test and evaluation directorate.

“The Air Force and Space Force will always be linked through our heritage,” Allvin, a 1994 USAF Test Pilot School graduate, said. “This MOA represents another way our partnership will build a better combat-ready force.”

The Space Test Course was developed under the leadership of Space Force Col. Michael Hopkins, Space Force Test and Evaluation director, and Air Force Col. Sebrina Pabon, U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School Commandant, to meet the requirement for space domain-focused test and evaluation training.

“I am extremely proud of what the team has accomplished and am looking forward to the official partnership between the Air Force and Space Force for Space Test and Evaluation education and training,” said Pabon.

Guardians enrolled in the 12-month program will receive formal instruction and practical experience covering the full spectrum test and evaluation of mission systems and topics critical to the space domain, such as orbital mechanics, electromagnetic spectrum, sensor sciences and the space environment.

While the traditional Test Pilot School focuses on developmental testing, an evaluation of specification compliance and early technology maturation, the Space Force is moving to an ‘integrated testing’ approach where principles of developmental testing are linked to operational testing, a form of testing that focuses on a system’s performance and usefulness in an operational environment, as well as the development of new tactics and procedures.

This integrated focus will prepare graduates to evaluate a space system’s entire life cycle and consider potential concerns and future risks a system may encounter.

With this partnership between the branches, the Space Force will enhance its ability to present the combat-ready forces required to protect U.S. space capabilities and defend the Joint Force from space-enabled attack.

St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner later held her own press conference on Thursday. Her supporters were in the audience and cheered her work as Circuit Attorney. It was a totally staged production for Gardner.

St. Louis has one of the highest homicide rates in the world.

Kim Gardner blamed the judges for not revoking Riley’s bond on three separate occasions in December 2021, August 2022, and as recently as January 2023. She blamed the judge in the case who she claims either ignored or denied her requests.

And then she played the race card like she always does.

A local FOX reporter confronted Gardner on her questionable claims that she contacted the courts about Riley.

FOX 2 reporter Chris Hayes asked Gardner why there is no record of her office filing a motion to revoke Riley’s bond. Gardner responded by saying motions to revoke a bond can be made orally or in writing. Her office made numerous oral requests to revoke Riley’s bond.

However, according to the Missouri Courts Municipal Clerk Manual, a judge would make note of such a request on the docket sheet.

Gardner has a record of lying to the public and even lying under oath.

Gardner lied about Governor Eric Greitens case, committed over 60 acts of misconduct in the case, and she got away with it.

Kim Gardner is a danger to society.Pray the state removes her from office before more people are killed and lives are ruined.

‘Unimaginable’: Parents of Woman Killed by Gun Owned by Alabama’s Brandon Miller Shocked He’s Still Playing

The parents of a woman murdered using a gun owned by Crimson Tide player Brandon Miller feel it is “unimaginable” that the university is allowing him to continue playing.

On Jan. 15, 23-year-old Jamea Jonae Harris, mother of a five-year-old boy, was gunned down in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Police say that the now former Crimson Tide basketball player Darius Miles pulled the trigger. Miles and Michael Lynn Davis — who is not associated with the team — were arrested for the crime.

But freshman forward Brandon Miller has also been associated with the crime because police say thegun used to murder the woman was his and that he gave the weapon to Miles just before the shooting. After Miles returned the gun to him, Miller gave the weapon to the police once he heard of the shooting. Miller, though, has not been directly implicated in the shooting, and so far, prosecutors are saying that he didn’t know about the murder until it was done, and they are not charging him with any crimes.

The parents of the murdered woman, though, are aghast that Alabama is still letting Miller play.

Harris’s mother, DeCarla Cotton, told USA Today that it is “unimaginable” that Alabama allowed Miller to play in Wednesday’s game only a day after he turned in the gun used to kill her daughter.

“It’s just unimaginable, and it’s like his life is just going on,” Cotton said. “He took a brief pause and it didn’t stop. It’s like, OK, slap on the wrist and go play ball.”

“They’re worried about his career, but what about this 5-year-old boy? He’s the true victim in all this. He won’t have a mother anymore to influence his growing up and who he’s going to be,” she added.

Miller is Alabama’s second leading scorer and is projected to be a first-round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. On Wednesday, he scored a career-high of 41 points in his team’s overtime victory against the University of South Carolina Gamecocks.

Cotton added that it should have been clear to Miller that something bad would happen when Miles asked him for the gun.

“When somebody says bring a gun to them, what do you think they’re going to do with it?” she said. “And if there was no gun, she would not be dead.”

The victim’s stepfather, Delvin Heard, blasted coach Nate Oats for his initial dismissive treatment of the news of Miller’s involvement and called the coach’s reaction “godawful” and said his comments “crossed the line Tuesday.”

Credit Suisse Cuts Property Fund (REIT) Payouts as Withdrawals Mount

Credit Suisse Group AG’s funds business cut payouts on a 3.25 billion Swiss franc ($3.5 billion) real estate pool and said some clients were seeking to pull their cash after valuations were hit by rising interest rates.

The Credit Suisse Real Estate Fund International’s net asset value is expected to drop as much as 10%, according to a statement Friday. That will likely limit distributions to investors to as low as 35 francs a share, down from 40 francs a share, it said. Investors holding about 13.3% of the fund’s shares have asked for their money back. Rising interest rates are hitting real estate values globally, as the cheap money era in which real asset values soared comes to an end. While publicly traded landlords saw their share prices rapidly adjust to rising borrowing costs, private market valuations have been slower to update, and some investors in real estate funds have sought to redeem their cash before writedowns feed through.

“Global valuations were negatively impacted by rising interest rates for CS REF International in its key markets of the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany,” Credit Suisse said in the statement. “Despite healthy rental results at attractive conditions, these were insufficient to offset the negative effects of rising interest rates.” The fund’s top holdings include properties in Vancouver, Austin and Boston, according to a fact sheet. Credit Suisse isn’t the only firm seeing its property holdings suffer in a down market. In January, BlackRock Inc. suspended withdrawal requests on a £3.5 billion UK property fund, and Blackstone Inc’s $69 billion real estate trust hit a monthly redemption limit. Yet Credit Suisse’s fund has been struggling for a while and has underperformed all of its peers over the past five years and is down almost 5% in that period, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

The real estate fund’s woes aren’t directly related to the broader turmoil at Credit Suisse, which is undergoing an extensive overhaul that will involve spinning out parts of the investment bank. The lender has raised $4 billion in capital, yet investor confidence is yet to return and the bank’s share price hit a record low this week.

These dangerous drugs primarily come from criminal illegal drug traffickers with the Sinaloa Cartel, says Cheri Oz.

It is unclear how many narcotics were seized in 2023 to date. “These seizures have occurred over a period of time of just over three years, and the investigations stem from the city of Tempe. David Gortler, a pharmacist, pharmacologist and drug safety epidemiologist who worked as an FDA medical reviewer between 2007 and 2011, and senior adviser to the FDA commissioner in 2019-21, was pleased to see the submission.

“They're 100% right to bring this up. It's unprecedented in the history of the FDA, that there have been over 13 billion doses of the vaccine given worldwide and neither Pfizer nor Moderna has bothered to keep the label up to date with the latest efficacy and safety findings,” says Gortler. "It should be their number one priority."

“The product label is the ultimate authority and owner’s manual for doctors and pharmacists, to go to for the latest, most accurate information about a drug. It’s a living breathing document, that should be regularly updated with the latest epidemiological data,” he adds.

Gortler, who is now a fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington DC says, “The FDA can ask for a labelling update, but the truth is, the vaccine manufacturer is the one who ought to maintain updates. However, all vaccine makers have a liability shield, so they are not motivated to update anything.”

John Abramson, a physician and lecturer at Harvard Medical School, and author of Sickening: How Big Pharma Broke American Health Care, also supports the CAALM petition to update the vaccine labels to ensure people are able to make informed decisions.

“The lack of forthrightness about the underlying clinical trial data - and the lack of coverage of this issue by the mainstream media - are engendering dangerous vaccine skepticism,” says Abramson.

“When I went to get a booster from the local pharmacist, I mentioned that there are no data available. The pharmacist replied, ‘We are the data’ &ndash; Americans deserve better,” added Abramson.

The petition was filed on January 31 and the FDA has 180 days to respond. Members of the public can add comments to the petition HERE.

Abstract

Background. The main impetus behind the worldwide Covid-19 vaccination campaign in 2021 was to reduce the mortality attributed to SARS-CoV-2 infection in the preceding year. Nevertheless, rigorous analyses of the mortality benefits conferred by this massive vaccination effort have been lacking. Methods Statistics offers us an essential methodological approach for measuring the impacts of Covid-19 vaccination on public health. The mathematical relation between vaccinated-alive groups can be repeated between vaccinated-dead groups with relatively high statistical reliability because of the large population numbers involved. This method also confers greater statistical usefulness because it eliminates the Simpson effect. Results Calculations were performed for each of the following five four-week intervals: weeks 35-38 (2021), weeks 39-42 (2021), weeks 43-46 (2031), weeks 47-50 (2021), and weeks 51(2021)-2(2022). The results obtained confirm that the mortality of the vaccinated coronavirus-infected groups was 14.5% higher on average than the mortality of non-vaccinated coronavirus-infected groups. Conclusions Vaccinated infected groups appear to have higher average mortality than their non-vaccinated infected counterparts. The findings suggest the legitimacy of extending the statistic between vaccinated living and vaccinated dead individuals for different age groups. Calculating the impact of Covid-19 vaccination on the mortality rate is a necessary step toward satisfying the first principle of medicine: “Primum non nocere”, “Do no harm”.

Ericsson to cut 8,500 jobs worldwide

Telecom equipment maker Ericsson said Friday it would slash 8,500 jobs worldwide, part of a cost-cutting programme as financial headwinds push operators to rein in spending.

Ericsson, which had a total of 105,000 employees at the end of 2022, last month posted disappointing full-year 2022 earnings, as operators slow spending on rolling out the latest 5G networks due to the global economic slowdown and rising inflation.

The Swedish company said most of the layoffs would be implemented in the first half of 2023 and the rest in 2024, as it accelerated its $860 million cost saving plan announced late last year.
