SAM141 USAF G5 departed MacDill CENTCOM earlier today (arrived yesterday from JBA) and went to MCAS Camp Lejeune, NC for 6 hours then to NW Arkansas Airport-Bentonville, AR (WalMart land) for one hour and east back to JBA

So now the Hex ID shows that SAM911 in cap #2 of >>149871 pb is this AC (SAM141 G5)

We habs some scrubbing and reassigning going on here because I was originally fooled into thinking that SAM911 had already departed back to JBA (because there were two of the same callsigns) and never 'arrived' and it did NOT have a tail # so the only way I would have known it was a C-40B (at time) was by checking the Hex ID-it is now assigned to this AC that just left Bentonville. From what I see we have some reassigning or ADS-B mislabeled it but since I checked it then I lean towards the former as I would not have been able to uncover the SAM911 fuggery without that HexID

Seems that they have swapped those IDs for that week only at this point. It appears to belong to the G5

A few excerpts from a BofA research note: High hurdles to rebalance the existing home market. As the Fed now tries to slow the economy down, housing will be front and center as one of the main interest rate-sensitive sectors.

As we have been writing, mortgage rates have spiked this year to around 5.5% creating a record affordability shock. This should lead to a major pullback in home sales and turnover. However, home prices will likely continue to move higher, and we recently revised up our home price appreciation forecast this year to 15%.

It is hard to understate how tight the housing market is right now. The key metric to gauge the supply-demand imbalance is existing homes months supply, which is at a historically low level of 2.2 months as of April. As we recently pointed out in Fed throwing shade on hot housing market, months supply has a strong historical inverse relationship with % mom home prices. The record tightness therefore helps explain the record gains in home prices. Looking at the long history, a balanced market is likely closer to 5-7 months. To get from 2 months to 5 months would take some pretty big changes and swings in the existing home market. To assess this, we create a matrix for months supply with varying assumptions for weaker home sales and greater inventories. A combined 20% pullback in existing home sales and 20% increase in inventories, would add slightly over 1 month to months supply, bringing it up to 3.3 months. To get back to 5 months and the minimum threshold for a balanced market, it would take more severe moves in the range of 40% for both.

Now, however, because of our leaders rhetoric and very poor choice of words, it is perhaps more likely to happen than not. Russia/Ukraine would NEVER have happened under a TRUMP Administration. Biden's Taiwan comment sparks uncertainty over 'strategic ambiguity'

U.S. President Joe Biden's assertion Monday that his government would use military force to defend Taiwan has set off speculation that Washington is reassessing its long-held policy of "strategic ambiguity" on the island. Biden said "yes" when asked in a joint news conference here with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida whether the U.S. would get involved militarily to defend Taiwan if necessary, adding that "that's the commitment we made." Critics have argued that Biden's explicit refusal to send American troops to Ukraine encouraged Russian aggression and have made comparisons to Beijing's threats to Taiwan.

Under the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979, the U.S. sells arms to Taipei to enable it to "maintain a sufficient self-defense capability." Washington views this approach deterring China while not supporting Taiwan's unilateral independence -- as helping to maintain a stable regional status quo. In an interview last August, the president named Taiwan alongside Japan and South Korea when talking about Washington's commitments to responding to threats. Asked that October whether the U.S. would come to Taiwan's defense if China attacked, Biden replied that "yes, we have a commitment to do that." Billionaire Robert Brockman must stand trial for the largest tax evasion case against an individual in US history despite asserting dementia leaves him incompetent, a judge ruled. US District Judge George C. Hanks Jr. discounted claims that dementia leaves Brockman, 80, unable to help his lawyers defend against a 39-count indictment accusing him of evading taxes on $2 billion of income and other crimes. The Justice Department has investigated Brockman for five years, and the ruling raises questions about its ability to prosecute wealthy tax defendants. Russian and Chinese military planes conducted joint exercises to patrol the Asia-Pacific region, Russia's defense ministry said on Tuesday, in a pointed farewell to U.S. President Joe Biden as he concluded an Asia trip that rankled Beijing.

The joint patrol lasted 13 hours over the Japanese and East China seas and involved Russian Tu-95 strategic bombers and Chinese Xian H-6 jets, the defense ministry said in a statement.

New Home Sales Decrease Sharply to 591,000 Annual Rate in April

The Census Bureau reports New Home Sales in April were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of 591 thousand.

The previous three months were revised down. Sales of new single‐family houses in April 2022 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 591,000, according to estimates released jointly today by the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. This is 16.6 percent below the revised March rate of 709,000 and is 26.9 percent below the April 2021 estimate of 809,000.New home sales are now below pre-pandemic levels.The months of supply increased in April to 9.0 months from 6.9 months in March.

The all-time record high was 12.1 months of supply in January 2009. The all-time record low was 3.5 months, most recently in October 2020. This is well above the top of the normal range (about 4 to 6 months of supply is normal). "The seasonally‐adjusted estimate of new houses for sale at the end of April was 444,000. This represents a supply of 9.0 months at the current sales rate." In April 2022 (red column), 53 thousand new homes were sold (NSA). Last year, 74 thousand homes were sold in April.

The all-time high for April was 116 thousand in 2005, and the all time low for April was 30 thousand in 2011.

This was well below expectations, and sales in the three previous months were revised down sharply.

Former Secretary of Defense Mark Esper has indulged in the worst of all Beltway traditions: the self-serving, post-government memoir. Based on initial reviews and press reports, the sanctimoniously titled A Sacred Oath embodies the worst instincts and bankrupt worldview of American foreign policy elites. Esper has promoted his book by relentlessly trashing his former boss as, among other things, a “threat to democracy” unfit to serve as President.

When nominated in 2019, Esper was a promising candidate for Secretary of Defense in a Trump Administration. In contrast to his immediate predecessor, acting secretary Patrick Shanahan, Esper looked the part and had only spent part (rather than all) of his previous professional career in the employ of a major defense contractor. As a veteran of the Army, Capitol Hill, and the Heritage Foundation—and a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School—Esper was acceptable to the defense establishment. However, unlike previous secretary James Mattis, Esper was a longtime civilian who presumably did not see it as his mission to actively oppose President Trump’s America First policies.

Esper’s score-settling is likely borne of personal pique. President Trump fired Esper unceremoniously after rendering him a pariah in polite company—and perhaps less employable—by, among other things, enlisting the help of the Department of Defense (DOD) in responding to the riots that swept the country in summer 2020. Picking a fight with the former President still seems like an ungracious response to the man who elevated Esper from lobbyist to cabinet secretary in less than two years.

However, to the extent he’s trying to engender goodwill with establishment institutions, Esper’s approach to Oath is miscalculated. His headline-grabbing revelations have been dismissed by many on the left as “too little, too late”—“Why did you wait to put it in a book?” Stephen Colbert asked Esper—and will likely be soon forgotten altogether. More is expected from defectors than just a rehash of familiar gossip and complaints. If the trajectory of others who have trod this path is any guide, remaining useful to the anti-Trump cause will require a steady stream of commentary on a wide range of topics. Esper should be ready to opine on the impact of striking down Roe v. Wade on servicemember readiness, or join his ally, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, in defending increasing wokeness at the Pentagon.

Assuming nobler motives, Esper makes the fundamental, yet all-too-common, error of setting up himself—rather than the duly elected President—as the definer and defender of American national security interests, and a “circuit breaker” against Trump’s supposedly dangerous directives. A common trope in this regard is the refrain that “I took an oath to the Constitution, not the President.” But it is that same sacred Constitution that invests in the President, not his unelected agents, “the executive power”—and designates him as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces.

Through grave miscalculations in Iraq and elsewhere, the foreign policy establishment has squandered any entitlement to a presumption that they know better than the President, or the American people who elected him. One of Esper’s supposedly sensational allegations is that President Trump wanted to use military force to “destroy the drug labs” in Mexico. But why is it not common sense to attack, by any means necessary, the source of a problem that substantially contributed to the more than 100,000 U.S. overdose deaths in 2021? The defense establishment refuses to accept that the unrestricted flow of drugs and people over the southern border is at least as urgent a national security priority as fomenting far-flung conflict in the Middle East or with Russia.

A fundamental dispute between President Trump and Esper was over the drawdown in Afghanistan. Mattis had quit publicly over withdrawing troops from Syria, and the DOD simply refused to give the Commander-in-Chief good options for ending America’s longest war. Esper has claimed that he stayed on Secretary of Defense as long as he did out of fear his successor would be a “yes man.”

In fact, Christopher Miller ably led Defense as acting secretary during the final two months of the Trump Administration. It was current Secretary Lloyd Austin who turned out be a “yes man” to the Biden White House’s indefensible decision to close Bagram Air Base before withdrawing American troops from Afghanistan by a date certain—thereby conceding strategic defeat, surrendering a valuable counterterrorism platform, and triggering a humanitarian catastrophe.

Among the headlines following the Afghanistan debacle was one from the Army Times: “Army leadership: Afghanistan withdrawal not affecting readiness.” It was unclear what the Army may be getting ready for, beyond losing more wars while combating “white rage” and pushing vaccine mandates. But so goes the bureaucratic logic of the modern military-industrial complex—now spending tens of billions of dollars on an undeclared proxy war with nuclear-armed Russia in Ukraine—which Secretary Esper defends, and President Trump dared question.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban declared a wartime state of emergency immediately after his new government was installed.

The state of emergency, a new tool Parliament approved earlier on Tuesday, will take effect at midnight and will give the government “maneuvering room and the ability to react immediately” to the fallout from the war in neighboring Ukraine, Orban said in a video message on his Facebook page.

The government will announce its first measures under the emergency on Wednesday, he said.

In a day when yields are plunging, just as we said they would now that the head and shoulders formation is obvious for all to see-in muh 10 year moments ago the US Treasury sold $47BN in 2Y paper in an auction which many thought would bomb due to the collapse in yields ahead of the sale. It didn't, and instead, pricing at a high yield of 2.526%, the auction stopped through the When Issued 2.526% by 0.7bps. More importantly, this was the first decline in the 2Y high yield since July 2021. The Bid to Cover was average, printing at 2.61, below last month's 2.74 but just above the six-auction average of 2.59.

The internals were also solid: while Indirects dropped from 66.0% to 62.6%, they were still one of the highest on record and well above the recent average of 59.9%-"Mrs Watanabe" here . Hungary’s MOL prepares to move away from Russian oil

Hungary’s biggest energy company is preparing its oil refineries to process non-Russian oil, a sign that Budapest may eventually come around to backing an EU embargo on Russian crude despite weeks of resistance.

MOL, which owns three oil refineries in central and eastern Europe, has asked its engineers to make plans for how to run them without Russian oil, the company’s downstream production director Zsolt Huff said on Thursday.

“We need to rebuild the plane while flying,” Huff told reporters in Budapest. “That is the process that we have to plan precisely now.” He said MOL, which is partly owned by the Hungarian state, must “prepare for the worst scenario now, in which we can only process seaborne [light] crude”. A portfolio of 15 projects under preparation would be shown to the company’s board in about two months and work could start if the projects were approved, said Huff. The company wanted to decide its investments this year but was not yet fully committed to a change, he added.

Hungary has so far blocked attempts by the EU to impose an embargo on all Russian oil supplies, whether brought by pipeline or via tanker, as part of the bloc’s latest round of sanctions against Moscow for its war in Ukraine. The landlocked central European nation is demanding a full exemption for the oil it gets by pipeline from Russia.

Overhauling Hungary’s oil infrastructure to handle crude from elsewhere could cost up to €18bn, foreign affairs and trade minister Péter Szijjártó estimated this week, adding that the EU would have to help Budapest to pay.

The European Commission is determined to cut the EU’s dependency on Russian fossil fuels, as part of its response to President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, but it has offered much less funding than Hungary desires. This week, it allocated about €2bn to help Hungary and other landlocked states to access alternative supplies.

However, talks between the commission and Hungary aimed at winning its support for the oil ban have proceeded sluggishly, prompting some officials to speculate that the matter could end up being discussed at leaders’ level at an upcoming European Council late this month.

MOL has spent decades and billions of dollars on infrastructure to process Russian Ural-type crude, a market advantage that has boosted its recent profits as the price gap grew between Russian oil and more expensive Brent crude.

U.S. Will Start Blocking Russia’s Bond Payments to American Investors

The Biden administration will start blocking Russia from paying American bondholders, increasing the likelihood of the first default of Russia’s foreign debt in more than a century.

An exemption to American sanctions has allowed Russia to keep paying its debts since February. But that carve out will expire on Wednesday, and the United States will not extend it, according to a notice published by the Treasury Department on Tuesday. As a result, Russia will no longer be able to pay interest it owes on billions of dollars in debt held by American investors. As a result, Russia will be unable to make billions of dollars of debt and interest payments on bonds held by foreign investors. Biden administration officials had debated whether to extend what’s known as a general license, which has allowed Russia to pay interest on the debt they sold, but officials ultimately determined that a Russian default would not have a significant impact on the global economy and allowed it to lapse. Treasury Secretary Janet L. Yellen said at a news conference last week that the exemption was created to allow for an “orderly transition” so that investors could sell securities. It was always intended to be for a limited time, she said. She noted that Russia’s ability to borrow has already essentially been cut off. “If Russia is unable to find a legal way to make these payments, and they technically default on their debt, I don’t think that really represents a significant change in Russia’s situation,” Ms. Yellen said. “They’re already cut off from global capital markets, and that would continue.”

Although the economic impact of a Russian default might be minimal, it was an outcome that Russia had been trying to avoid and represents an escalation of U.S. sanctions. Russia has already unsuccessfully attempted to make bond payments in rubles and has threatened to take legal action, arguing that it should not be in default if it is not allowed to make payments.
