"Accused white-supremacist mass murderer Payton Gendron dropped off ammunition and a high-powered rifle at his best friend’s home the day before his slaughter at a Buffalo supermarket, the pal has claimed.

The 18-year-old suspect showed up unannounced at 8 a.m. to drop off the terrifying arsenal with longtime pal Matthew Casado, a 19-year-old Hispanic man who has a black girlfriend, the friend told ABC News.

Casado — whose mother described Gendron as “like my other child” — was at work at the time in Conklin, NY, about 200 miles from where the mass shooter allegedly targeted black shoppers in Buffalo the next day.

Gendron texted him around 4:30 p.m. to say that a roommate had let him in to “put ammo cans in my room because he needed space to arrange in his house,” Casado told the outlet."

The stalling of the peace talks is a result of the wish of London and Washington to drag out the Ukraine conflict, Lavrov claimed

London and Washington have been exercising their control over the Ukrainian negotiators with the aim of dragging out the conflict, and this policy has led to the suspension of peace talks between Moscow and Kiev, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed on Tuesday.

Speaking at the New Horizons educational marathon, Lavrov said that Ukraine may have made its own decision in Istanbul, when it came up with some “acceptable principles for reaching agreements” during negotiations with Russia. However, according to the minister, these ideas were apparently not supported by the West.

“We have information coming through various channels that Washington and especially London ‘lead’ the Ukrainian negotiators and control their freedom of maneuver. They want to drag out the conflict, and it seems to them that the longer it will last, the more damage they will inflict on Russian servicemen,” Lavrov said.

The foreign minister doubts, however, that “transferring the conversation to the level of Washington or London” would be able to change anything in terms of the progress.

“Anyway, neither London, nor Washington, nor the West as a whole has put forward any proposals,” Lavrov said.

The West actually acknowledged that Ukraine is “expendable in a hybrid total war against the Russian Federation,” Lavrov claimed, citing remarks by the EU, UK and US officials who have said on multiple occasions that Russia should not be allowed to win in the Ukrainian conflict.

Ukrainian troops holed up in Mariupol begin surrendering

Kiev puts on a brave face as trapped Azov fighters give themselves up to Russian forces

The last remaining Ukrainian troops in the southern port city of Mariupol have started surrendering, after being trapped for nearly a month in the Azovstal steelworks. The massive industrial complex, with a network of underground tunnels and bunkers, was the last bastion held by Ukrainian forces.

The city is otherwise controlled by Russian troops and the militias of the Donbass republics. The Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) claims Mariupol as part of its sovereign territory.

Since the start of the week, over 250 Ukrainian fighters have surrendered to Russian troops in Mariupol, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

1 Why is Mariupol so important?

Mariupol is a major port on the Azov Sea and an industrial powerhouse that hosted some of the biggest steel mills in Ukraine.

Back in 2014, when conflict first erupted between Ukrainian government forces and Donetsk rebels, Mariupol saw intense street fighting, during which so-called volunteer battalions of Ukrainian nationalists took control of the city.

Mariupol had since served as a base of operations for Azov, one of the volunteer militia units that ended up being incorporated into Ukraine’s National Guard. Azov members openly hold neo-Nazi views, while the unit’s iconography was inspired by the SS.

2 What is Azovstal?

Azovstal is a steelworks plant that traces its origins to the Soviet industrialization effort of the 1930s. The facility is located near the coast in the middle of Mariupol, has its own port infrastructure, and extends over an area of around 11 square kilometers. It employed well over 10,000 people in recent years.

Like many other Soviet-designed sites, it has an extensive system of underground tunnels and shelters, which were originally designed to protect workers from air raids in the event of war. Because of that, it became the designated fallback site for Ukrainian troops fighting against Russian and DPR soldiers laying siege to Mariupol.

3 Why was there fierce fighting for Mariupol?

The city was one of the primary targets for Russian and allied troops in the first phase of the Ukraine campaign, which Russia launched in late February. The city was blockaded in early March and saw some of the most intense fighting in the conflict. Moscow and Kiev repeatedly accused each other of thwarting attempts to organize the evacuation of civilians out of the city and to bring in humanitarian aid.

In mid-April, a unit of Ukrainian marines surrendered after a failed attempt to break out of another Soviet-era metallurgical plant in Mariupol. This made Azovstal the final remaining Ukrainian stronghold in the city.

On April 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly granted the request of the Russian military to not storm Azovstal, ordering instead the facility to remain blockaded until the fighters trapped inside are pressured into laying down their arms.

Former Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann lied to the FBI in a bid to use it as a “political tool” for an “October surprise” against Donald Trump before the 2016 election, a member of special counsel John Durham’s team told jurors on Tuesday.

Sussmann, 57, ignored proper protocol and instead reached out directly to a friend — then-FBI general counsel James Baker — to hand over since-debunked Internet data that purportedly linked a Trump Organization computer server to Russia’s Alfa Bank, prosecutor Deborah Brittain Shaw said.

Sussmann is accused of misleading Baker into believing he was merely acting as a “good citizen” because he knew that if the bureau knew he was working for Clinton’s campaign, it “might not meet with him right away, let alone open an investigation,” Shaw said during opening statements at his trial in Washington, DC, federal court.

“He told a lie that was designed to achieve a political end, a lie that was designed to inject the FBI into a presidential election,” she said.

Shaw described Sussmann’s alleged lie as “part of a bigger plan carried out in concert with two clients, the Clinton campaign and Rodney Joffe,” a tech executive and Sussmann client who told him about the data.

“It was a plan to create an October surprise on the eve of the presidential election,” she said.

But the FBI’s investigation of the data Summann provided didn’t live up to its billing and was instead found to involve nothing more than a “spam email server” used for marketing purposes.

Shaw said the prosecution would show that Sussmann’s Sept. 19, 2016, meeting with Baker at the FBI headquarters in Washington, DC, was the culmination of a three-pronged plan involving him, the Clinton campaign and Joffe.

The first step was to have Joffe and other technology experts look for data that could smear Trump, to then leak the findings to the press and for Susmann to finally bring the information to the FBI, she said.

A former senior Homeland Security official who previously accused Donald Trump's administration of telling his department to stop providing intelligence reports on the threat of Russian interference in the 2020 election told CNN on Tuesday morning that they were also hindered by the former president's people from alerting the public about the rising tide of white nationalists in the U.S.

After first admitting that keeping guns from people like the Buffalo shooter would be difficult, he told the CNN host that "No one wants to enact legislation which prevents people from expressing their first amendment, you know, opinions, but when we're talking about acts of violence, there are carveouts under First Amendment and expressing acts of violence where there is a clear indication that something is going to happen, it is against the law."

Higher COVID-19 Infection Rates Among Vaccinated Children Than Unvaccinated, CDC Data Show

According to data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), higher COVID-19 case rates have been recorded among fully vaccinated children than unvaccinated in the age group 5-11 since February.

On Feb. 12, CDC reported a weekly case rate of 250.02 per 10,000 population in fully vaccinated children aged 5-11, compared to 245.82 for unvaccinated children in the same age group.

That’s the first time CDC recorded a higher case rate among fully vaccinated young children since data was first collected in December 2021. It remains for the following weeks till the third week of March, the latest week with available data.

Children aged 5–11 years became eligible for COVID-19 vaccination on Nov. 2, 2021. There are about 28 million children in this age group in the nation.

Currently, about 28.8 percent of children in this age group have been fully vaccinated, according to Mayo Clinic.

CDC’s data also show the gap in rates of cases between fully vaccinated and unvaccinated has become increasingly smaller among other age groups. The death rates show the same trend between fully vaccinated and unvaccinated for people above 50. For people under 50 years old, the death rates have not much difference since the rollout of the vaccine.

The data show that the COVID-19 vaccines have a “negligible effect” on people, said Dr. Peter McCullough, a renowned cardiologist and epidemiologist.

“With these results in hand, it is clear the vaccines are having a negligible effect in populations,” McCullough told The Epoch Times via email. “Given the overall poor safety profile and lack of any assurances on long-term safety, Americans should be cautious in considering additional injections of these products.”

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets issued a consumer alert on April 29th concerning Thomas Miller DBA Miller Dairy Farm raw milk. The agency urged buyers not to consume the unpasteurized milk, as it might contain Listeria.

The Department discovered the presence of Listeria on April 21st when an inspector collected a sample of milk. Lab testing followed the preliminary positive result, and the April 29th results confirmed the initial findings.

The agency notified the producer, prohibiting the sale of raw milk until future tests can prove the product is free of harmful bacteria.

The media outlet used a paintball training photo in an article on the Russian offensive

The Reuters news agency has become the target of online ridicule after it published a report on the Ukraine conflict alongside an image of what appeared to be people playing airsoft.

The report was released on Monday, stating that Ukrainian soldiers had driven off Russian forces in Sumy Region, with the headline reading: “Ukrainian border guards repelled an incursion by a Russian sabotage and reconnaissance group in the northeastern region of Sumy on Monday, the governor of the Sumy region said.”

However, what drew the attention of users online was not the content of the report, but the image used to illustrate it. A link to the article, posted alongside the aforementioned image, was published to the Reuters Twitter account, where it remains, despite receiving hundreds of comments pointing to the ill-fitting image.

Some users have stated that this Reuters post is a prime example of why it’s become increasingly difficult to trust mainstream media reports on complex foreign conflicts such as the one in Ukraine, which is already hard to follow due to the avalanche of conflicting and misleading reports supposedly coming from the frontlines.

Other users have also jested that the image actually depicts the paintball industry getting in on the Russia-Ukraine conflict to make a quick buck, suggesting that the $40 billion proposed by the US Senate might get spent on paintball gear.

Reuters attempted to justify the use of the image, stating that the photo showed “members of the territorial defense force”attending a “training simulation.” However, many have slammed the agency for not including that clarification in the original tweet in the first place.

Boost in nerve-growth protein helps explain why running supports brain health

Exercise increases levels of a chemical involved in brain cell growth, which bolsters the release of the "feel good" hormone dopamine, a new study shows. Dopamine is known to play a key role in movement, motivation, and learning.

Experts have long understood that regular running raises dopamine activity in the brain and may protect nerve cells from damage. In addition, past research has tied exercise-driven boosts in the dopamine-triggering chemical called brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and in dopamine levels to improvements in learning and memory. However, the precise way these three factors interact has until now remained unclear.

Led by researchers at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, the investigation showed that mice running on a wheel for 30 days had a 40% increase in dopamine release in the dorsal stratium, the part of the brain involved in movement, compared to levels in mice that did not exercise. The runners also showed a nearly 60% increase in BDNF levels compared to their non-running counterparts. Notably, the increase in dopamine release remained elevated even after a week of rest. Additionally, when BDNF levels were artificially reduced, running did not lead to additional dopamine release.

"Our findings suggest that BDNF plays a key role in the long-lasting changes that occur in the brain as a result of running," says study lead author and neurobiologist Guendalina Bastioli, Ph.D. "Not only do these results help explain why exercise makes you move, think, and feel better, they also show that these benefits continue even if you do not work out every day," adds Bastioli, a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Neuroscience at NYU Langone Health.

According to Fox News border correspondent Bill Melugin, the DHS court filing for April shows more than 230,000 migrant encounters were logged at the southern border last month —the highest number in DHS history.

“BREAKING: There were 234,088 migrants encountered at the Southern border in April, per a DHS court filing today. That’s the highest number in DHS history,” Melugin tweeted Monday afternoon. He added that “117,989 migrants were released into the U.S. in April” and “113,248 were removed, including 96,908 expelled via Title 42.”

And with the end of Title 42, that number is only going up. Members of the GOP are doing everything they can to prevent the Biden Administration from lifting the Trump-era health policy that has helped turn migrants around at the border —including filing a lawsuit against Biden.

“Revoking Title 42 will create an unprecedented surge at the southern border and it will overwhelm law enforcement agencies and non-governmental organizations as well,” the Republicans who filed the lawsuit argue. “The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, (DHS), estimates getting rid of Title 42 will result in as many as 18,000 migrants per day – which could mean 540,000 migrants in a single month.”

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) responded to the record-breaking news on Twitter.
