Trump’s Incoming FCC Chair Rubs Salt Into ABC’s Stephanopoulos Wound in Letter to Bob Iger.

Incoming FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, tapped by President Trump, has blasted ABC News and its parent company, Disney, following a humiliating $15 million defamation settlement related to the network’s coverage of Trump. In a scathing letter to Disney CEO Robert Iger, Carr criticized the network’s conduct as emblematic of the national media’s cratering trustworthiness, with public confidence in mass mediahitting a historic low of 31 percent, according to Gallup.

Carr’s remarksspotlight ABC’s lack of credibility, particularly in light of its recent legal loss to Trump, where the network admitted regret over statements made by George Stephanopoulos during a high-profile interview. The debacle, Carr argues, epitomizes the arrogance of national media organizations that haveeroded public trust while treating accountability as optional.

But Carr’s criticismextends beyond past missteps. He lambasts ABC’s ongoing negotiations with local affiliate stations, accusing the network of leveraging its power toimpose harsh financial demands that harm local broadcasters—outlets still widely trusted by Americans across the political spectrum.

The Commissioner also highlighted reports thatABC is using these negotiations to redirect local revenuetoward propping up its direct-to-consumer streaming platforms like Disney+ and Hulu.

“This isn’t how Congress envisioned the system working,” Carr warned, calling ABC’s tactics a betrayal of the public interest. He pledged that the FCC would intervene if national networks like ABC continue exploiting their affiliates at the expense of local communities.

Carr’s strong rebukesets the stage for a showdownbetween Trump’s FCC and media conglomerates that have long dominated the news landscape. As ABC reels from the fallout of its Trump settlement, the network now faces a potential reckoningnot only in public perceptionbut also in regulatory oversight.

No wonder all other media networks were freakin out Disney settled. It's much easier after winning the first one, plus PDJT has the FCC on his side legally

Israel confirms it assassinated Hamas leader in Iran

Ismail Haniyeh was killed by an explosive device in Tehran in July

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has acknowledged for the first time that West Jerusalem was responsible for the assassination of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran this summer.

Haniyeh, who was the Palestinian armed group’s chief negotiator in indirect ceasefire talks with Israel, was killed by an explosive device in the Iranian capital in late July, hours after attending the inauguration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Israel had taken responsibility for the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and the head of the Lebanese movement Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, which occurred in recent months, but had not confirmed its involvement in Haniyeh’s death.

Katz’s corroboration came as he issued a warning to Yemen’s Houthi rebels, who continue their strikes against Israel, at a commemoration event for Israeli security officers on Monday.

"These days, when the Houthi terror organization is firing missiles at Israel, I want to convey a clear message to them: We have defeated Hamas, we have defeated Hezbollah, we have blinded the defense systems in Iran, and damaged the [missile] production systems. We have overthrown the Assad regime in Syria, we have dealt heavy blows to the ‘axis of evil,’ and we will also severely strike the Houthi terror organization in Yemen, which remains the last one standing,” the minister said, as cited by the Times of Israel.

The government of former Syrian President Bashar Assad fell earlier this month after a swift advance by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and other armed groups. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted that this was “a direct result” of the bombing of Syria and Iran by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Katz warned that Israel will “strike strategic infrastructure [of the Houthis] and decapitate its leaders. Just as we did to Haniyeh, Sinwar, and Nasrallah, in Tehran, Gaza, and Lebanon – we will do in Hodeidah and [Yemen’s capital] Sanaa.”

“Whoever raises a hand against Israel will have their hand cut off, and the long arm of the IDF will strike them and settle the score,” he added.

Soon after Haniyeh’s killing, Iran said it was “orchestrated and executed” by Israel, and promised to retaliate at a time of its choosing. The response came in October when Tehran fired over 180 ballistic missiles at targets in Israel.

Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashes in Kazakhstan, many feared dead

December 25, 2024 1:21 AM PST Updated 19 min ago

ASTANA, Dec 25 (Reuters) - An Embraer (EMBR3.SA)

Unverified video of the crash showed the plane, which was operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, bursting into flames as it hit the ground and thick black smoke then rising. Bloodied and bruised passengers could be seen stumbling from a piece of the fuselage that had remained intact.

Kazakhstan's emergencies ministry said in a statement that fire services had put out the blaze and that the survivors, including two children, were being treated at a nearby hospital. The bodies of the dead were being recovered.

Azerbaijan Airlines said the Embraer 190 jet, with flight number J2-8243, was flying from Baku to Grozny, capital of Russia's Chechnya region, but had been forced to make an emergency landing around 3 km (1.8 miles) from Aktau in Kazakhstan. The city is on the opposite shore of the Caspian Sea from Azerbaijan and Russia.

Authorities in Kazakhstan said a government commission had been set up to investigate what had happened and its members ordered to fly to the site and ensure that the families of the dead and injured were getting the help they needed.

Kazakhstan would cooperate with Azerbaijan on the investigation, the government said.

Russia's aviation watchdog said in a statement that preliminary information suggested the pilot had decided to make an emergency landing after a bird strike.

Following the crash, Ilham Aliyev, the president of Azerbaijan, was returning home from Russia where he had been due to attend a summit on Wednesday, Russia's RIA news agency reported.

Ramzan Kadyrov, the Kremlin-backed leader of Chechnya, expressed his condolences in a statement and said some of those being treated in hospital were in an extremely serious condition and that he and others would pray for their rapid recovery.

Defense lawyers say the former longtime CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch may have dementia, and a competency hearing is necessary to determine if he can face sex charges.

Lawyers for Michael Jeffries said in court papers unsealed Monday in federal court in Central Islip on Long Island that a neuropsychologist who examined Jeffries in October concluded he likely has dementia with behavioral disturbance, Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia.

Jeffries, 80, is free on a $10 million bond after pleading not guilty in October to federal sex trafficking and interstate prostitution charges.

Prosecutors say Jeffries, his romantic partner and a third man lured men into drug-fueled sex parties in the Hamptons, on Long Island, by dangling the promise of modeling for the retailer’s ads.

Musk confirms $1 billion offer to rename Wikipedia

The billionaire previously proposed paying the website to change its name to “Dickipedia”

Elon Musk has confirmed that his offer to pay $1 billion for Wikipedia to change its name to “Dickipedia” is still on the table. The X owner initially made the proposal amid accusations that the encyclopedia has an embedded left-leaning bias.

On Tuesday, one X user recalled Musk’s offer, to which the billionaire replied “True. Offer still stands.”

Earlier this year, Musk claimed that Wikipedia was “broken” and urged to “fix Wokipedia” amid accusations that the website allows articles that brand Republicans and US President-elect Donald Trump as “fascist” and promote other left-wing narratives while painting the political right in a negative light. He claimed that the encyclopedia is “controlled by far-left activists” and urged people to stop donating to it.

Musk has also questioned why the Wikimedia Foundation has been asking for large amounts of money, arguing that “it certainly isn’t needed to operate Wikipedia” because “you can literally fit a copy of the entire text on your phone.”

The website previously explained in a community note that while a text and English-only copy of Wikipedia was about 51GB, the entire encyclopedia, including all the media and other languages weighs some 428TB. The organization said that in 2022, Wikimedia generated $154 million in revenue and had $145 million in expenses.

In October, while posting a photo of Wikipedia’s donation plea, Musk wrote: “I will give them a billion dollars if they change their name to Dickipedia,” and called it “a stiff & firm offer.”

Meanwhile, a study in June by the Manhattan Institute, a US-based conservative think tank, found that Wikipedia’s tendency to negatively portray right-wing political figures had started to affect AI large language models that harvest data from the online encyclopedia.

The report said that it had found “prevailing associations of negative emotions (e.g., anger and disgust) with right-leaning public figures; and positive emotions (e.g., joy) with left-leaning public figures,” suggesting “evidence of political bias embedded in Wikipedia articles.”

Last month, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova also hit out against Wikipedia, claiming that the encyclopedia provided one-sided and often biased interpretations of events in its historical and political articles, which “almost always reflect and exclusively Western-centric point of view and contain direct forgeries.”

Truly a moment in KEK history

When what to my bloodshot eyes

should appear

But another Q post saying

indictments are near!

Then the bread came alive

and turned to shit quick

With poorly made memes

That all said “Muh Dick”

Then with precision deltas

The Q posts they came

The clock had aligned

And they began to name names

On Hussein On LL

On JC On NoName

On Podesta On Huma

We’ll see you in Gitmo! Anons say Oo’rah!

Then Q made the call

And the dark turned to light

So the anons assembled

For the Patriots Fight!

With Memes at the ready

And the Notables Baked

The booms began booming

And we sealed their fate!

To Potus and Q

Thanks for all that you do

Anons are united

And we will see this through

So the movie plays on

As the house of cards fall

True Patriots know

Diamond Dust Sky Eye

Why is there a huge eye in the sky? Diamond dust. That is an informal term for small ice crystals that form in the air and flitter to the ground. Because these crystals are geometrically shaped, they can together reflect light from the Sun or Moon to your eyes in a systematic way, causing huge halos and unusual arcs to appear. And sometimes, together the result can seem like a giant eye looking right back at you. In the featured image taken in the Ore Mountains of the Czech Republic last week, a bright Moon rising through ice fog-filled air resulted in many of these magnificent sky illusions to be visible simultaneously. Besides Moon dogs, tangent arcs, halos, and a parhelic circle, light pillars above distant lights are visible on the far left, while Jupiter and Mars can be found just inside the bottom of the 22-degree halo.

13 yrs? DEATH.

You can't UNRAPE a child!

Los Angeles County teacher charged for alleged sexual assaults of 2 students

A teacher at a high school in Covina is facing charges for allegedly sexually assaulting two students, according to prosecutors.

The alleged assaults began in 2022, according to a news release from the office of Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman.

Joshua Daniel McGinn, 41, was arrested on suspicion of the crimes on Dec. 18. In an arraignment hearing on Jan. 6, he’ll be formally charged with the following:

Four felony counts of oral copulation of a person under 18 years

One felony count of sexual penetration by use of force

One misdemeanor count of sexual battery

Two felony counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor more than three years younger

One felony count of contact with a minor for sexual offense

One felony count of possession of child or youth pornography

The acts were committed with two female students under the age of 18, prosecutors say. As of his arrest, McGinn was a teacher at Charter Oak High School. He is still listed in the staff directory on the school’s website.

“Prosecutors from our Sex Crimes Division are working tirelessly to ensure justice is served for the victims and their families,” Hochman said in a statement. “We also want to encourage anyone who may have additional information or has been victimized to come forward and report information to the Covina Police Department. Your courage in speaking out is vital, and we are here to ensure justice is served.”

If convicted, McGinn faces a maximum sentence of 13 years and six months in state prison.

Additional victims or anyone with information are asked to contact Detective G. Hagle at 626-384-5621 or the Covina Police Department at 626-384-5808.

Diddy Demands Sanctions Days After Male Accuser Drags J. Lo Into Court Battle

Diddy asked a federal judge to award him sanctions against the male prisoner suing him over an alleged sexual assault that the mogul claims never happened, In Touch can exclusively report.

According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Diddy, 55, and his legal team demanded the court stop Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith’s lawsuit from moving forward.

Diddy’s lawyer pointed out that Derrick is currently “serving a decades-long sentence” and accused him of “attempting to leverage the federal judiciary as a tool for harassment and extortion.”

They point out, “[Derrick] has filed several, substantially identical lawsuits against [Diddy], in each case demanding enormous sums of money based on wholesale fabrications.”

Diddy’s lawyer continued, “His frequent filings clearly indicate he has no intention of stopping his meritless attacks. As a result of [Derrick’s] harassment, [Diddy] has incurred significant legal fees and costs. [Derrick’s] barrage of meritless, fraudulent filings must come to an end.”

Diddy asked that the court order Derrick to stop bringing, without prior court permission, any new filings. Further, the entertainer asked that Derrick be ordered to pay his legal fees in the case.

Diddy’s lawyer claimed, “This is not [Derrick’s] first attempt at a shakedown — and unless this Court intervenes, it will not be his last. [Derrick] has a lengthy history of filing frivolous lawsuits in this District and beyond.”

“The overwhelming majority, if not all, of [Derrick’s] cases have been dismissed as meritless. Still, he has continued filing. Numerous judges have admonished [Derrick] to stop litigating vexatiously,” Diddy’s lawyer pointed out.

Former Riverside County sheriff's deputy accused of attempting sex with a minor dies by suicide

A former Riverside County sheriff’s deputy arrested earlier this month and accused of attempting to have sex with a minor killed himself last week, according to authorities.

Anthony Russo, 52, was found dead inside his Arrowbear Lake home Friday, the San Bernardino County Coroner’s office confirmed.

The coroner’s office did not immediately respond to questions about who found him or the nature of the suicide.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said it had no details to provide since the case was outside its jurisdiction.

The department did “extend our condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragic loss.”

Russo had been out on $50,000 bail after having been arrested Dec. 11 at Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, where he was assigned at the time of the criminal investigation.

He was arrested by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Special Investigations Bureau after the agency received a tip, according to the sheriff’s department.

Russo believed he was communicating electronically with a 15-year-old with whom he shared sexually explicit material and asked to meet up for sex, according to the sheriff’s department. The person he contacted was instead an undercover investigator.

Russo was booked on two felony counts. He was eventually charged by the Riverside County district attorney’s office with one felony count of knowingly distributing harmful material.

The Most American Christmas Ever

Because the defense of liberty takes no holiday, this is the third annual posting of this Christmas Day newsletter. The old farmer was there with Washington when he crossed a frozen Delaware River in blizzard-like conditions on Christmas 1776. And so the photographer took a daguerreotype photo of Conrad Heyer in 1852, who 103 years early was the first European child born in Waldoboro, Maine. At 24, he had enlisted in the Continental Army and spent 1776 with Washington, whose rag-tag army went from victory in Boston to defeat in New York to a daring raid and stunning victory in the Battle of Trenton, New Jersey.

The Most American Christmas Ever may not have involved elves, reindeer or a Red Ryder Daisy BB Gun, but that battle helped deliver the second-greatest Christmas gift (after the birth of Jesus, of course) for Americans.

Liberty.

Let’s face it, there was more than enough stupid to go around this year. If 2024 taught us anything, it’s that there is no bottom in matters of the politically absurd. Remember, somebody thought it was a good idea for Joe Biden to debate Donald Trump. Fani Willis thought her deadbeat paramour Nathan Wade was worth every dime. And Kristi Noem believed her Old Yeller moment would be endearing. But then again someone in the Trump transition team thought the dog-killing South Dakota governor and close personal friend of Corey Lewandowski would make a fine Homeland Security secretary, so clearly there’s no accounting for taste.

What does the NASA administrator do?

Dec 25, 2024

Leaders of NASA sit in an awkward position. While they are the head of a widely recognized organization, they’re often not the most famous individual in the agency.

More people probably know the names of Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, the astronauts currently "stranded" on the International Space Station, than Bill Nelson, the current NASA administrator.

Astronauts might be the people most closely associated with NASA, but administrators are arguably more integral to getting programs off the ground.

As a space policy expert, I’ve seen the impact that individual NASA leaders can have on NASA’s success.

They play a vital role in deciding what NASA does and how it does it, and they also help build political support for space exploration.

NASA is an independent government bureaucracy, meaning that it does not fall under one of the cabinet departments – like the Department of State. As such, the leader of NASA is an administrator rather than a secretary.

Although the name differs, a NASA administrator has similar duties and responsibilities as a cabinet secretary. They help make decisions about which major programs and policies should be pursued and how they’re carried out.

NASA administrators work with partners in industry, including the commercial space industry. They also represent NASA while presenting to Congress and during diplomatic relations with other countries.

NASA administrators are also accountable to elected officials. Administrators are appointed by the president but must be confirmed by the Senate.

Congress has a great deal to say about the budget that NASA gets each year. They also must authorize major programs, like the Artemis program, which aims to return the U.S. and its partners to the moon.

Although major decisions like these are often out of their hands, NASA administrators still have a lot of influence behind the scenes.

James Webb, NASA’s second administrator, who held the office between 1961 and 1968, is often credited as being integral in maintaining political support for the Apollo program.

Dan Goldin, the longest-serving NASA administrator, helped save the International Space Station from cancellation in the early 1990s by convincing the Clinton administration to invite Russia’s participation.

As administrator in the early 2000s, Mike Griffin helped jump-start the commercial space industry by instituting the Commercial Orbital Transportation Services program.

This program provided funding to companies who would first send cargo to the International Space Station, and then later, astronauts.

>>277207

However, not all administrators are as productive as Webb, Goldin or Griffin. Richard Truly was fired from the post by George H.W. Bush in 1992 after disagreeing with the administration’s 1989 proposal to return the U.S. to the Moon.

Charles Bolden found controversy when he told Al-Jazeera that President Barack Obama instructed him to make outreach to Muslim countries one of NASA’s priorities.

Both Truly and Bolden were astronauts before becoming administrator. But that doesn’t mean that former astronauts are somehow worse in the position than people coming from other backgrounds.

NASA administrators have historically had a wide variety of backgrounds, including scientists, engineers and even former members of Congress.

The current NASA administrator, Bill Nelson, is both a former senator and a former astronaut, having gone to space on the shuttle Columbia in January 1986.

No matter the administrator, the coming years will bring big decisions for whoever is next.

With the recent announcement that the around-the-moon mission of Artemis 2 is delayed until spring of 2026, NASA still has much work to do in its Artemis program.

Major issues remain to be addressed with the crew vehicle, including problems with the capsule’s heat shield and electronic systems.

Further, the success of commercial space companies like SpaceX means there will be more pressure on NASA to find ways to reduce costs by leveraging the services of commercial companies.

More broadly, many other countries are looking to how the U.S. is operating in space.

Aside from what some see as a new space race with China, questions about space debris, space traffic management and space resources will involve cooperation with other countries and will require administrator involvement.

Finally, the NASA administrator will have to contend with a recurring issue: fewer resources. Historically, NASA has been appropriated less money than necessary to carry out all the things it has been charged to do.

This situation leads to hard decisions about what kinds of missions to support. Space science and robotic exploration typically lose out to things like human spaceflight.

Even though the next administrator will need to make hard decisions, the next few years will be full of excitement as the U.S. and others pursue increasingly ambitious goals.

Senate NASA bill focuses on commercial space stations, science mission overruns

December 24, 2024

A NASA authorization bill introduced in the Senate in the final days of the current Congress would have directed NASA to accelerate work on commercial space stations and address cost overruns on science programs.

The NASA Transition Authorization Act of 2024 was formally introduced in the Senate Dec. 18 by Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), chair of the Senate Commerce Committee, along with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), ranking member of the committee.

Other co-sponsors include Sens. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) and Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.), chair and ranking member of the committee’s space subcommittee, and Sens. Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) and Roger Wicker (R-Miss.).

The bill would have authorized $25.478 billion for NASA in fiscal year 2025, slightly above the $25.434 billion in the Senate version of an appropriations bill for the year and higher than the $25.384 billion requested by the agency for 2025.

“This bipartisan legislation sets an ambitious course for America’s space program, ensuring NASA’s leadership from Earth’s orbit to the Moon and Mars,” Cantwell said in a Dec. 20 statement about the bill.

With the bill’s other cosponsors, “we’re charting a strong course for America’s leadership in space exploration.”

A particular focus of the 101-page bill is on plans to transition from the International Space Station to commercial space stations at the end of the decade.

The bill makes clear that it wants NASA to handle that transition without any gap in the agency’s crewed presence in low Earth orbit.

“The Administrator may not de-orbit the International Space Station until the date on which a commercial low-Earth orbit destination space station has reached initial operational capability in low-Earth orbit,” the bill states.

It does grant an exception if the agency concludes that “technical issues” prevent continued safe operations of the ISS.

The bill calls for an “an orderly, managed transition” from the ISS to commercial stations once such stations are ready, “in such a way as to maintain a continuous human presence.”

The bill explicitly defines “continuous human presence” as the ability to maintain one or more government or government-sponsored astronauts in LEO on “permanent, on-going basis.”

NASA had, as part of the development of a LEO microgravity strategy, opened the door to interpreting “continuous human presence” to mean a continuous capability to support humans in LEO, but not necessarily having people there permanently.

The final version of the strategy, released Dec. 16, endorsed the “continuous heartbeat” concept of having people in orbit continuously.

The bill would also have NASA somewhat accelerate the next phase of its Commercial LEO Destinations (CLD) program to support the development of commercial stations.

It calls for NASA to release a final request for proposals for the next phase of the CLD program to cover certification of the stations and initial services by the end of September 2025, with NASA making selections by the end of March 2026.

The bill adds that NASA should select at least two providers in that phase, “subject to the availability of meritorious proposals and appropriations.” That is a slightly faster schedule than what NASA is currently proposing.

In a briefing to industry earlier this month, NASA outlined a notional schedule for phase two of the CLD program that would release the final request for proposals some time in the fall of 2025, with selections in the summer of 2026.

Science mission cost caps

Another area of focus of the bill was on the cost of NASA science programs. It cited “immature and unreliable” cost estimates made in the early phases of missions, causing challenges to the overall portfolio of science missions as costs of those missions grow.

“Relying on early cost estimates made prior to preliminary design review for science missions which then experience such cost growth may disincentivize program and cost discipline moving forward,” the bill stated.

It called for a report by the Government Accountability Office on the “establishment of and compliance with” cost caps set for science missions.

That interest in cost growth extends to Mars Sample Return (MSR), the campaign of missions to return samples from Mars that has suffered extensive delays and cost overruns, prompting an ongoing agency review.

The bill would have directed NASA to provide, no later than 90 days after enactment, a new implementation plan for MSR with “realistic cost and schedule estimates.”

Moreover, the bill would have directed NASA to enter into “firm fixed-price agreements with 1 or more United States industry partners” to carry out that revised plan no more than a year after the bill’s enactment.

The bill, by contrast, said little about NASA’s space technology programs. It also endorsed continuation of NASA’s ongoing exploration programs, including the Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft.

One section, for example, is titled “Reaffirmation of the Space Launch System.”

Those and other provisions are moot points for now. The bill, introduced in the final days of the current Congress, was not taken up by the Senate before it adjourned after the passage Dec. 20 of a new continuing resolution to fund the government through mid-March.

Even if it passed, the House had shown little interest in this bill, having passed its own NASA authorization bill in September.

The bill, though, may signal areas of interest by the Senate in the new Congress that convenes in January.

Cruz and Cantwell will remain as leaders of the Senate Commerce Committee next year, with Cruz as chairman and Cantwell as ranking member in the Republican-controlled Senate.

“This bipartisan legislation brings stability and certainty to NASA and the entire U.S. space program, including NASA centers like Houston’s Johnson Space Center,” Cruz said in the statement about the bill.

“I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to advance a bold vision for our nation’s science and space exploration efforts.”

Russian mall explosion caused by drone: official

Dec 25, 2024, 5:38 PM

A fixed-wing robotic aircraft was shot down by Russian air defenses over the capital of North Ossetia, the head of the southern Russian republic, Sergey Menyailo, said on his Telegram account.

He added that CCTV cameras show an explosion outside of Alania Mall, RT reported.

Earlier in the day, the Russian military reported destroying 59 Ukrainian drones in Kiev’s latest barrage against Russia.

Twenty-six were shot down over Bryansk Region, which borders Ukraine. The report did not mention North Ossetia or any other Russian part in the Caucasus.

The ministry has yet to comment on Menyailo’s statement.

Menyailo previously confirmed the death of one woman following the mall blast and said that another person injured at the mall was taken to a hospital.

That person’s injuries are not life-threatening, the official said.

The explosion started a fire at the upper central part of the building. Local firefighters managed to extinguish it after roughly an hour. Vladikavkaz is located about 850km from Kiev-controlled territory.

Ukrainian forces regularly launch long-range drone attacks deep inside Russia, which officials in Moscow describe as desperate attempts to compensate for defeats on the front line.

Mystery Drones Won't Interfere With Santa Claus' Work: US Air Force General

Dec 24, 2024 21:00 pm IST

Santa Claus has no need to worry about recent mystery drone sightings over New Jersey, a US Air Force general said Tuesday, as an annual tradition of "tracking" Saint Nick swung into action.

General Gregory Guillot's reassurances came as the joint US-Canadian North American Aerospace Defense Command reported that Santa and his reindeer were making stops across Asia, including Japan and North Korea.

Santa's journey this year comes after weeks of mysterious sightings of alleged drones in New Jersey, sparking worldwide curiosity even as many of the reported sightings were debunked.

"Of course we are concerned about drones and anything else in the air," NORAD commander Guillot told Fox News. "But I don't foresee any difficulty at all with drones for Santa this year."

NORAD's Santa tracker dates to 1955, when a Colorado newspaper advertisement printed a phone number to connect children with Santa - but mistakenly directed them to the hotline for the joint military nerve center.

To avoid disappointing the little ones, NORAD's director of operations at the time, Colonel Harry Shoup, ordered his staff to "check" the radar to see where Santa might be and update the children calling in on his location.

When not spreading holiday cheer, NORAD conducts aerospace and maritime control and warning operations - including monitoring for missile launches from North Korea, something perhaps on Santa's mind as he guided his reindeer-hauled sleigh over Pyongyang.

The tracker, which has been modernized and moved online to noradsanta.org, includes a 3D map showing Santa's movements in real time, as well as a ticker constantly shooting upward showing approximately how many presents have been delivered.

"North American Aerospace Defense Command always does a fantastic job helping us keep tabs on Santa's navigational heading and bearing in the skies above," astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second person to ever walk on the Moon, said on social media.

Last year, US President Joe Biden joined in the fun at NORAD's call center, taking calls from children. As of Tuesday morning, some 1.2 billion presents had been delivered, according to NORAD.

US biolab activity in Africa: Russia’s country-by-country analysis

The continent is the new focus of American biolab activities, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has claimed

24 Dec, 2024

The US is significantly expanding its military-biological presence in Africa, raising concerns about sovereignty and healthcare dependencies among participating nations, new analysis from the Russian military has claimed.

According to documents presented on Tuesday, the US is collaborating with local ministries, private contractors, and Big Pharma companies to implement American standards in biological safety and health management in Africa.

The documents indicate that the US military-biological presence on the African continent is rapidly expanding. Studies on the resistance of pathogenic microorganisms to medical drugs are reportedly being conducted in 18 African countries, while funding is provided through the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Here is a breakdown of the countries mentioned in the report from the Russian military.

Ghana and Djibouti

Branches of the US Navy Medical Center are located in these countries, where work is being conducted to isolate and sequence pathogens in natural disease hotspots.

Nigeria

In 2024, a joint medical research center and a military medical laboratory were established in Nigeria, staffed by US Defense Department specialists. Additionally, the country is funded for HIV projects, where Nigerian citizens participate in clinical trials of drugs by the Pentagon-affiliated company Gilead.

NATO scrambles warplanes after brutal Putin terrorises Ukrainians with Christmas missile and drone attacks as Keir Starmer condemns 'bloody and brutal' strikes

Updated: 07:55 EST, 25 December 2024

NATO was forced to scramble warplanes on its eastern flank on Christmas Day as Vladimir Putin unleashed savage missile and kamikaze drone strikes on targets across Ukraine.

Russia's warplanes, missiles and drones attacked key civilian infrastructure, specifically power plants and supply networks, to leave long-suffering Ukrainians freezing over the festivities.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer condemned the strikes on Ukraine's energy grid, labelling the attacks 'bloody and brutal... with no respite even at Christmas'.

Moscow used its long-range strategic bombers, including nuclear-capable Tu-95 'Bear' aircraft, from Olenya airfield in the Arctic.

Reports said Russian missiles had overflown Moldova - a sovereign state - and crossed the territory of Romania, a NATO country, prompting the security bloc's fighter jets to take flight.

The Polish armed forces operational headquarters announced that its commander had 'activated all available forces and resources at his disposal, the on-duty fighter pairs were scrambled, and the ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance systems reached the highest state of readiness'.

Volodymyr Zelensky claimed more than 70 missiles and 100 drones were unleashed in the attack as he labelled Putin 'evil' for the Christmas Day strike.

'Every Russian massive strike takes time to prepare,' said Zelensky. 'It is never a spontaneous decision. It is a conscious choice not only of targets, but also of time and date.

'Today, Putin deliberately chose Christmas for an attack. What could be more inhumane? Russian evil will not break Ukraine and will not distort Christmas.'

Ukraine's tilt to the West is particularly clear amid the festive period - many people now mark Christmas on 24 and 25 December, rather than on 6 and 7 January as in Russia.

Putin evidently deliberately targeted the seasonal festivities, with Ukrainian civilians forced to spend Christmas morning cowering in metro stations and other bomb shelters.

But Russia has generally intensified its attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector since spring 2024, damaging almost half of its generating capacity and causing hours-long blackouts throughout the country.

Explosions were reported early this morning in multiple Ukrainian regions, with Putin attacking key civilian infrastructure.

Much of Kharkiv - Ukraine's second city - was left without heating from Putin's Christmas onslaught.

Water supplies and electricity were also hit as were 'many civilian infrastructure facilities', said one local Telegram channel.

The country's largest private energy company DTEK said its generating facilities were attacked during the strike, causing 'serious damages' to power equipment.

'This year, it is the 13th massive attack on the Ukrainian energy sector and the 10th massive attack on the company's energy facilities,' DTEK said on Telegram.

Strikes with Iskander-M and Kh-101 missiles were targeted at Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro. Reports said some 20 explosions hit Dnipro this morning. More than five hit Kremenchuk and there were up to 15 in Kharkiv.

At least one person was killed in Dnipro, while six people were wounded in a missile attack on Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine, regional governor Oleh Syniehubov said.

Ukrainian air forces said ballistic missiles attacked Kharkiv and Syniehubov said on the Telegram messaging app that there were 'damages to civilian non-residential infrastructure'.

There were fears for power plants in Burshtyn and Kryvyi Rih, as well as gas storage facilities in Stryi, Lviv region.

Ukraine's energy minister German Galushchenko said: 'The enemy is again mass attacking the energy industry.

'The transmission system operator takes the necessary measures to limit consumption to minimise the negative consequences for the power system.

'As soon as the security situation allows, energy workers will clarify the damage caused. 'Stay tuned for official notifications. While the danger continues - stay in shelters!'
