AP Decision Desk update on the Nevada senate race
The late updates Thursday in Clark and Washoe counties in Nevada didn’t add many votes to the tally in the races for president and U.S. Senate.
The deadline for mail ballots to arrive and be counted is Saturday. With tens of thousands of ballots potentially still left to count in the state’s two biggest counties, the races are too early to call.

Astronaut Suni Williams 'in good health' on the ISS, NASA says, refuting tabloid claims
November 7, 2024
NASA astronaut Suni Williams is in good health in Earth orbit, despite some speculation in the media to the contrary, according to the agency.
Tabloids such as The Daily Mail and The New York Post have published stories recently speculating that Williams may be going downhill aboard the International Space Station (ISS), citing an outside doctor's thoughts about a Sept. 24 photo in which she supposedly appears "gaunt."
But there's nothing to worry about, NASA officials said in emailed statement today (Nov. 7).
That statement stressed that Williams, the commander of the ISS' current Expedition 72, "is in good health" and that NASA is "not tracking any concerns" with her or any other agency spaceflyer aboard the ISS.
(There are four NASA astronauts and three Russian cosmonauts living on the station at the moment.)
"All NASA astronauts aboard the International Space Station undergo routine medical evaluations, have dedicated flight surgeons monitoring them, and are in good health," the statement reads.
Williams and fellow NASA astronaut Butch Wilmore arrived at the orbiting lab on June 6 aboard Boeing's Starliner spacecraft.
The duo were supposed to come home just a week or so later, but problems with Starliner's thruster system extended their stay and eventually convinced NASA to bring the Boeing capsule home uncrewed.
That happened on Sept. 6. Williams and Wilmore, meanwhile, will stay aboard the ISS until February 2025, when they'll return to Earth with the two astronauts of SpaceX's Crew-9 mission.
There are plenty of supplies — including food — to support Williams and Wilmore through the end of their unexpectedly long orbital stay, NASA officials have said.

The Biden administration has lifted a de facto ban on American military contractors deploying to Ukraine to help the country’s military maintain and repair US-provided weapons systems, particularly F16 fighter jets and Patriot air defense systems, an official with direct knowledge of the plan told CNN.
The new policy, approved earlier this month before the election, would allow the Pentagon to provide contracts to American companies for work inside Ukraine for the first time since Russia invaded in 2022. Officials said they hope it will speed up the maintenance and repairs of weapons systems being used by the Ukrainian military.
It is not clear whether Donald Trump will keep the policy in place when he takes office in January. Trump has said he hopes to end the war between Ukraine and Russia “within 24 hours” of returning to power.

Netanyahu taps former official, settlement activist Yechiel Leiter as next US ambassador
American-born academic served as chief of staff to now-PM when he was finance minister; West Bank settlement leader lauds appointment; son was killed fighting Hamas in Gaza
Leiter, whose son was killed last year fighting in Gaza in the war against Hamas, will take office on January 20 when Donald Trump returns to the White House.
“Yechiel Leiter is a highly talented diplomat, an eloquent speaker, and has a deep understanding of American culture and politics,” Netanyahu said in a statement on Friday. “I am convinced that Yechiel will represent Israel in the best possible way, and I wish him success in his role.”
According to Haaretz, US-born Leiter was active in his youth in Rabbi Meir Kahane’s Jewish Defense League and immigrated to Israel with activists from the far-right organization.
After moving to Israel he received a PhD from Haifa University and has served as deputy director-general of the Education Ministry, chief of staff of then-finance minister Netanyahu and acting chairman of the Ports Authority.

BlackSky buys Thales Alenia’s stake in LeoStella joint venture
November 8, 2024
BlackSky has taken full ownership of smallsat manufacturer LeoStella, giving the remote sensing company greater control over the production of its next generation of imaging satellites.
In a Nov. 7 earnings call to discuss its third quarter financial results, BlackSky announced it acquired the 50% of LeoStella it did not already own from Thales Alenia Space, the other partner in the joint venture.
The company did not disclose financial terms of the deal.
The deal was completed on Nov. 6, according to BlackSky’s 10-Q filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
“We expect that this acquisition will allow the Company to improve its control over the Gen-3 supply chain and production operations,” the company stated in the filing, which also did not disclose financial details about the transaction.
Gen-3 is the next generation of imaging satellites that LeoStella has been producing for BlackSky.
The new satellites promise increase performance in terms of resolution and revisit rates over the company’s existing Gen-2 spacecraft, with additional capabilities such as shortwave infrared imaging and intersatellite links.
The company anticipates a baseline constellation of at least a dozen of those satellites.
During the earnings call, Brian O’Toole, chief executive of BlackSky, said the first Gen-3 satellite is in the “final testing phase” after which it will be shipped to New Zealand for launch on a Rocket Lab Electron.
He did not disclose a projected launch date for the satellite other than it will take place three to four weeks after shipment.
He said that acquiring the half of LeoStella it did not own would improve efficiencies in the production of future Gen-3 satellites.
“To support our Gen-3 production objectives, we’ve taken active steps to further optimize the Gen-3 supply chain and production operations, which includes the acquisition of our partner stake in LeoStella,” he stated.
BlackSky, then a part of Spaceflight Industries, announced the creation of the LeoStella joint venture with Thales Alenia Space in 2018 as part of a $150 million Series C round.
LeoStella opened a satellite factory in a Seattle suburb in 2019 that would be used to both produce BlackSky satellites as well as those from other customers.
While LeoStella did win business from other companies, such as Loft Orbital, and sought to enter defense markets, BlackSky was its major customer.
In an Oct. 24 press release to announce that BlackSky and LeoStella jointly were selected for a Space Development Agency program that makes them eligible to compete for future experimental satellite missions, LeoStella stated that it has delivered 23 satellites to date, 19 of which were in orbit. Most of those would be for BlackSky.
O’Toole was vague about whether LeoStella would continue to sell satellites to third parties now that it is wholly owned by BlackSky.
“Right now, BlackSky is the primary customer for LeoStella. So, we’ve been essentially funding that business through our existing satellite production contracts,” he said.
LeoStella’s focus, he said, will be “on the scaling of Gen-3 and optimizing those production operations.”
Notably, LeoStella’s website now redirects to BlackSky’s site, which makes no mention of satellite manufacturing capabilities.
O’Toole said in the earnings call that despite buying out Thales Alenia’s stake in LeoStella, the two companies would continue to work together.
“Our partnership with Thales remains really strong,” he said. “We’re continuing to partner worldwide on bringing Gen-3 capability combined with their offerings to the market.”
BlackSky reported $71.7 million in revenue in the first nine months of this year, a 22% increase over the same period in 2023.
It said it had adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) of $4.3 million through the first nine months of the year, compared to negative adjusted EBITDA of $10.3 million in the same period last year.

The Federal Reserve threatens the financial ruin of every man, woman, and child in America! Its time to Audit (and then End) the Fed.
President-elect Trump himself, and many of the top people involved in the Trump campaign – including Elon Musk, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and Tulsi Gabbard – have all been outspoken critics of the Federal Reserve.
Campaign for Liberty has been fighting to Audit the Fed since we began more than sixteen years ago . . . and Ron Paul has been fighting for this issue even longer.
And this upcoming year will be hands-down, the best environment we will have to get it done than we have ever had.

Space Force Hymn Lifts Prayer to the Heavens
November 8, 2024
The upright piano was old and out of tune, but James Linzey couldn’t resist the urge to stop and touch the keys.
Sitting in the former Dalton gang museum building in Coffeyville, Kansas, Linzey clanked until he found the melody he had been searching for.
Then he wrote the words:
Creator of the universe,
Watch over those who fly,
Through the great space beyond the earth,
And worlds beyond the sky.
The 66-year-old Southern Baptist minister composed this hymn in Coffeyville, a small town of about 9,000, back in 2020, while cleaning up the historic museum he’d purchased with plans to revitalize.
Now, nearly five years later, the hymn is known as “The Space Force Hymn.”
Linzey was a military chaplain for nearly 24 years, but the government didn’t ask him to write “Creator of the Universe” for the newest branch of the service.
In fact, the military does not have official hymns, out of concern they would violate the First Amendment prohibition against respecting an establishment of religion.
But there are unofficial hymns.
The Air Force has “Lord, Guard and Guide the Men Who Fly,” and the Navy has “Eternal Father, Strong to Save.” And the Space Force has Linzey’s composition.
If you ask Linzey why he wrote it, he will tell you it’s because God told him to—although he’s quick to add that it wasn’t an audible voice.
He felt an internal prodding.
“I felt very strongly in my spirit that the Lord led me—urged me—to write the Space Force hymn.”
The thought popped into his head when he first heard that then-president Donald Trump was going to create another branch of the military—the first new service since the creation of the Air Force in 1947.
Some people mocked the idea when it was announced, but experts said it was necessary for the organization and prioritization of American interests in space, including the security of satellites.
“It’s not about protecting Earth from asteroids or aliens,” said Todd Harrison, who directs the Aerospace Security Project at the Center for Strategic & International Studies.
“It will create a centralized, unified chain of command that is responsible for space.”
Linzey, who was taking an intensive course in advanced Greek at Westminster Seminary California at the time, started thinking about heaven.
“The Space Force’s mission to explore space and engage in space travel inspires me because, number one, the Bible says that that is where heaven is,” he told Christianity Today.
“The OT Hebrew term for ‘heavens’ or ‘heaven’ is shamayim, which can also be translated as ‘sky.’ In the Hebrew Bible, shamayim is the home of God.
The NT Greek term for ‘heaven’ or ‘sky’ is ouranos, and … that is where we will go for all eternity, by believing in and living for Christ.”
It’s hard to imagine someone more suited to compose the Space Force hymn than Linzey. He served in the United States Army and Air Force as a chaplain before retiring in 1998 with the rank of major.
His experience has given him a lot of insight into the hearts and spiritual needs of the people serving their country—and what inspires them.
He also has an MDiv from Fuller Theological Seminary and a deep knowledge of biblical languages.
He is chief editor of the Modern English Version Bible and general editor of the new Tyndale Bible, which will be released in 2026 ahead of the 500th anniversary of the release of the original Tyndale Bible.

Linzey believes having a strong theological background is important for hymn writing.
“You have to know the Bible,” he said. “You have to know theology so you don’t mess up.”
It also helped to know military music history. The Space Force hymn includes allusions to both the Air Force hymn and the Navy hymn.
The first verse of Linzey’s composition references “worlds beyond the sky,” which plays off the Air Force hymn’s line about “great spaces of the sky.”
And the final verse of Linzey’s hymn begins with “Eternal Father, strong to save,” which is the title of the Navy hymn.
Linzey said he did this deliberately to show the continuity of the new service.
The first members of the Space Force also came from the Air Force, so he wanted to communicate that connection and the development of a new branch in the song.
The official recording was done by Dan Kreider, a professional composer and music minister at a church in Florida, who also has a doctorate in choral music and a business publishing custom hymnals.
Linzey laughed and said that it sounds a lot better than it did when he first played it on the upright in Dalton Museum building.
Kreider’s version is slow and majestic and allows people to breathe and experience the feeling of praying to God.
“It’s like you’re in a cathedral at this altar with stained glass windows and the sun’s shining through,” Linzey said. “The reverence—they captured it.”
Don Biadog, a retired Navy chaplain who has known Linzey since 2016, had a similar reaction when he first heard the song.
“The hymn impacted me emotionally and on a high spiritual level,” said Biadog, who is also Southern Baptist. “The lyrics and the tune masterfully tug at the heart, soul, and mind.”
He believes the hymn will have a powerful effect on the men and women who serve in the Space Force in the years to come.
“‘Creator of the Universe’ is a prayer that has been set to music, and all military personnel certainly need a prayer such as this that draws the soul of humankind closer to God,” he said.
Biadog hopes the hymn will be sung in lots of churches—perhaps on Independence Day, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day.
“Military hymns became recognized in the civilian churches before becoming ‘military hymns,’” Biadog explained in an article for K-Love.
“After that, it became natural for military chapels and military bands to adopt them as their hymns and perform them.”
Linzey is pleased with the response the song has received so far. He doesn’t know how many churches have sung the hymn, exactly, but tens of thousands of people have visited his website, where the sheet music is free to download.
Since its release, the song has been well received, with stories written about it in the local Coffeyville newspaper and numerous religious publications.
Linzey has also done his best to let churches and chapels know about it. “I really hope in my lifetime to see it in a hymnal,” he said.
Perhaps someday it will be sung in the chapel at the Pentagon, where the more than 9,000 members of the Space Force are currently assigned:
Eternal Father, strong to save,
In prayer before Thy light,
In solitude of sov’reign grace,
Grant courage for each flight. Amen.
Wherever people sing the words that Linzey wrote in Coffeyville, though, he knows a prayer will rise to the heavens.

DNC infighting breaks out!
A massive slap-fight has broken out between Joe Biden's and Kamala Harris's camps - with each blaming the other for Harris' historic loss to Donald Trump.
According to Axios, "In response to Trump's decisive victory, aides in both camps are blaming the other for being more responsible, according to interviews with more than a dozen people in the White House and Harris' campaign."
One person in Harris' camp told the outlet, "The 107-day Harris campaign was nearly flawless. The Biden campaign that preceded it was the opposite."
Another Harris person told them, "We did what we could. I think the odds against us were insurmountable," referring to Biden's horrendous approval ratings and late exit from the race following his disastrous debate performance in June that revealed his brain is mush.
Responding to criticism of Biden top political aides Mike Donilon and Steve Ricchetti's decision to run Biden "for re-election at 80 years old," the Biden camp fire back - with one former staffer saying Harris' team is making excuses.
"How did you spend $1 billion and not win? What the fuck?"
"The Harris team benched [Biden] and then they lost, so now the people who represent Biden are saying, 'Maybe you shouldn't have benched him,' " they said. - Axios

🚨Breaking: Texas AG Ken Paxton filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the U.S. Department of Justice requesting records from special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into President-elect Trump.
"Past Special Counsels, including—notoriously—Robert Mueller, destroyed records at the end of their investigations to avoid accountability. It is not clear why nobody was prosecuted for doing so. This request is part of my Office’s efforts to ensure that Americans are not cheated out of accountability or information again. This pattern of weaponizing the justice system for partisan retribution must end.”

Jay Powell says Donald Trump couldn't fire him even if he tried
So much for "democracy"
President-elect Donald Trump has sent mixed signals for years on whether he would aim to fire or demote Fed Chair Jerome Powell when he reenters the Oval Office next year.
But Powell himself laid down a marker Thursday that he won’t be going anywhere, even if Trump tried.
"Not permitted under the law," the central bank chair said Thursday in curt but clear responses to reporters who asked about his views on any legal authorities Trump might have in terms of firing or demoting him or any other top Fed officials.
"No," he said at another point in a press conference on the question of whether he would leave.

STARCOM hosts inaugural Partnership Days to advance Guardian education
Nov. 7, 2024
Space Training and Readiness Command held its inaugural Partnership Days in Reston, Virginia on Oct. 31 – Nov. 1, bringing together leaders, educators, and innovators from academic institutions and the space-related private sector.
These key players joined Space Force education leaders to explore future avenues for supporting Guardian development.
The conference aimed to establish and strengthen connections while providing a platform for industry and academia to present innovative ideas for potential education and training pathways to STARCOM leaders.
This effort focuses on piloting new education and training programs that would offer enlisted, officer, and civilian Guardians diverse opportunities to expand and deepen their knowledge in space, cyber, and intelligence-related specialties.
By cultivating partnerships with world-class academic and industry organizations, STARCOM seeks to leverage emerging technologies, alongside leadership and management programs, to further develop Guardians into versatile space warfighters capable of prevailing against an aggressive adversary’s strategy, operational concepts, and tactics.
“I have a goal for STARCOM, and the Space Force more broadly — to educate Guardians in all new ways,” said U.S. Space Force Maj. Gen. Timothy Sejba, commander of STARCOM.
A number of the conference attendees represented the U.S. Space Force’s University Partnership Program (UPP).
Since its inception in August 2021, the UPP forged strategic partnerships with select higher education institutions to help recruit, educate, and develop military and civilian Guardians.
The UPP provides pathways for advanced academic degrees, STEM scholarships, and cutting-edge research for university students and ROTC cadets.
However, the Space Force is now looking to add specific courses, experiences and programs that go beyond current offerings.
Desired additions include certificate programs, technical training, leadership and management courses, guest lectures, and other educational opportunities to advance Guardian knowledge.
“The idea is to match what we currently offer through our established curriculum with Air University and other programs, like Johns Hopkins, with more academic institutions to expand our continuum of education for our Guardian workforce,” Sejba said.
“I want to use that partnership as the inspiration for other creative ways to educate our Guardians.”
In 2023, the Space Force partnered with Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) to launch a tailored, in-residence Intermediate and Senior Level Education (ILE/SLE) program for Guardian officers.
This yearlong program provides a unique and collaborative learning environment to better equip leaders who are well-versed in space-education and capable of taking on the challenges of the future in a rapidly evolving domain.
“STARCOM Partnership Days provides the Space Force the opportunity to highlight how we are growing as a service and our commitment to innovative workforce development,” said Katharine Kelley, the Deputy Chief of Space Operations for Human Capital.
“By collaborating with industry and academic partners, as we have done with our University Partnership Program and Johns Hopkins, we are able to provide Guardians with access to best-in-class educational opportunities that expand their skills across the Continuum of Education.
Together, we are building a sustainable pipeline of skilled Guardians, both military and civilian, ready to tackle emerging challenges.”
STARCOM is also exploring partnerships with space-focused industry organizations to offer immersive, hands-on experiences for Guardians.
Similar to the U.S. Air Force’s Education With Industry (EWI) program, Guardians could be placed with companies to work alongside industry experts, gaining valuable insights, technical skills, and an understanding of management and leadership processes in the space sector.
“We must invest in top-tier education for space personnel, ensuring they can outthink and outperform our adversaries in modern warfare,” said U.S. Space Force Col. Bryan Dutcher, Delta 13 commander.
Delta 13 is charged with delivering USSF institutional Professional Military Education (PME), Professional Continuing Education (PCE), and Professional Partnership Education (PPE) programs to Guardians and specified joint and allied partners.
“By integrating the best ideas from space-related private industry and civilian academic institutions, our Guardian educational programs can keep pace with rapid technological advancements in the space and cyber domains, ensuring we’re prepared future Great Power conflicts involving near-peer competitors,” Dutcher said.

DOJ Civil Rights Lawyers Try to Unionize Amid Uncertain Future
Division with lightning rod agenda tries to form DOJ’s first attorney union
Employees seek stable conditions, protections from ‘Schedule F’
Lawyers in the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division have launched a union organizing campaign with an aggressive timeline to try securing bargaining status ahead of the next presidential administration.
The attempt to form what would be DOJ’s first known union of litigators—parallel to a more advanced effort inside the department’s environmental division—is focused on maintaining “stable” working conditions, such as telework flexibility, in the face of an uncertain future. Employee organizers are also trying to overcome a “widespread misunderstanding” among Civil Rights Division lawyers that they’re ineligible to unionize, according to materials disseminated to staff in late July and obtained by Bloomberg Law.
Organizers don’t name former President Donald Trump in the emails to colleagues, but their agency’s equal justice portfolio, including voting rights and policing investigations, has experienced significant shifts depending on the political party in power. Their bid comes as the Republican presidential nominee has promised to revive his first-term initiative that sought to erode federal civil servant job security and his allies make plans to overhaul DOJ civil rights enforcement including by focusing on anti-white discrimination.

Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) officially rolled out his bid to run the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) on Friday, a move that would put him at the helm of the party’s midterm efforts to maintain and possibly grow its majority next cycle.
Scott had been mulling a run for the post since mid-October. He is currently the only person in the race for the post.
“Let’s do this! I’m running for NRSC Chair because two years of a Republican agenda is good, but four years of success under Donald J. Trump is even better,” the former 2024 presidential hopeful said in a statement.

Judge in Trump 2020 election case agrees to cancel court deadlines after his presidential win
By Melissa Quinn November 8, 2024 / 1:19 PM EST / CBS News
Washington — The federal district judge overseeing the case against President-elect Donald Trump related to the 2020 electionagreed to forego current deadlinesto allow special counsel Jack Smith and his team more time to assess the "unprecedented circumstance" arising out of his election Tuesday to serve a second term in the White House.
Smith asked U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan in a one-paragraph filing for additional time to "determine the appropriate course going forward consistent with Department of Justice policy."He said prosecutors will provide more information to the court by Dec. 2. Chutkan quickly granted Smith's request and tossed out the remaining deadlines she had set. She ordered the government to submit to her a report"indicating its proposed course for this case going forward"by Smith's proposed early-December deadline.
Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the race for the White House on Tuesday and will be sworn-in for a second term on Jan. 20. As a result of Trump's victory, the Justice Department and special counsel's office are discussing how to wind down the ongoing federal prosecutions against Trump.
The Justice Department has a longstanding policy against prosecuting a sitting president.
Citing the outcome of the election and Trump's upcoming inauguration,Smith told the court that the deadlines in the pretrial schedule should be tossed out "to afford the government time to assess this unprecedented circumstance."
Trump is facing four federal charges in the case arising out of what Smith alleges was an unlawful scheme to subvert the transfer of power after the 2020 election. He pleaded not guilty and has denied wrongdoing.
Proceedings in the case were halted for months as Trump pursued claims that he was immune from federal prosecution all the way up to the Supreme Court.
The high court ruled in July that former presidents cannot face charges arising from official actions taken while in the White House.
The case returned to Chutkan in August, and a grand jury returned a new indictment against Trump that narrowed the allegations against him to comply with the Supreme Court's ruling. The two sides have been arguing in court papers about whether the new charges can stand.
Trump was also charged in a separate case brought by Smith in South Florida stemming from his alleged mishandling of documents marked classified and efforts to impede the Justice Department's investigation. But the 40 charges brought against him were tossed out earlier this year after U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, who was overseeing the case, ruled the special counsel's appointment was unconstitutional.
Smith appealed that decision, and he and Trump's lawyers have submitted filings on the issue of whether the special counsel's appointment should stand.

CIC expands to include SDA, ISR capabilities
Published Nov. 7, 2024
During a Mitchell Institute fireside chat, Nov. 5, Lt. Gen. Douglas A. Schiess, U.S. Space Forces - Space commander and Combined Joint Force Space Component commander, announced the expansion of the S4S Commercial Integration Cell by five members, with two additional companies in the process of joining.
Historically, CIC commercial mission partners have been satellite owners and operators with satellite communication or imagery capabilities.
The expansion of the CIC also brings an expansion of mission areas these partners support to include Space Domain Awareness and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance.
The S4S CIC enables operational and technology exchange between U.S. Space Command and commercial partners.
This real-time and near real-time information flow allows for rapid, informed response to space events and improves Space Domain Awareness.
The CIC integrates members into current operations and planning through operational-level experimentation, exercise participation, and tactics, techniques and procedures development to improve domain awareness, enhance operations and increase resiliency.
Through the implementation of the CIC, S4S has seen improved space object screening; increased space situational awareness through highly accurate and timely data exchange; improved detection, characterization and resolution of electromagnetic interference; timely indications and warning regarding real-world events (e.g., dazzling/lasing, direct ascent launches, etc.); and improved coordination of critical asset lists.
The addition of these seven companies, will help USSPACECOM to continue to mitigate capability gaps while improving and maintaining advantages over competitors.

Federal Agency Accuses White House Official Of Violating Hatch Act
A federal investigative agency is requesting disciplinary action for Neera Tanden, who serves as one of President Joe Biden’s domestic policy advisors, over her allegedly violating a law that prohibits solicitations for partisan political candidates.
The agency, known as the U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC), announced the complaint on Nov. 7 while highlighting recent posts Tanden made on the social media platform X. According to the agency’s complaint, Tanden violated the Hatch Act by posting or reposting solicitations for donations to Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign, as well as multiple Democratic congressional candidates.
“Congress created a rule banning all federal employees from fundraising for political candidates,“ Special Counsel Hampton Dellinger said.
“The Hatch Act contains no escape hatch for White House officials.”
The White House did not respond to The Epoch Times’ request for comment before publishing time. According to Politico, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said Tanden took “compliance with the Hatch Act seriously.”
Tanden served as White House staff secretary before Biden promoted her last year to be one of his domestic policy advisors. Biden had nominated her to lead his Office of Management and Budget, but she backed out amid scrutiny over other social media posts.
In its Nov. 6 complaint, the special counsel office said it notified the White House Counsel’s Office on Aug. 30 that Tanden was in violation of the Hatch Act after her post two days prior promoting four candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives.
Tanden eventually removed that post on Sept. 3 but two days later reposted a video of actor Michael Keaton asking for funds to support Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) in his campaign for reelection, the complaint said. In September, subsequent posts from Tanden promoted solicitations for Democrat Lucas Kunce, who was running to unseat Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.); Democratic House candidate Rebecca Cooke of Wisconsin; and Democratic House candidate Will Rollins of California.
“Each of Tanden’s three subsequent posts … was also made after Tanden was notified that making such posts violated the Hatch Act prohibition against soliciting political contributions,” the OSC’s complaint read.
The OSC’s complaint requested that the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) penalize Tanden under a federal law that outlines removal, suspension, monetary fines, or “reprimand” as potential punishments.
Bates reportedly pointed to a 2021 report wherein the special counsel office raised constitutional concerns with the MSPB disciplining individuals directly appointed by the president. That report said that OSC “may not pursue disciplinary action through the MSPB” for commissioned officers, or those appointed by the president, and Senate-confirmed presidential appointees.
For both types of appointees, the OSC said it “must report its findings to the president” and allow the president to take appropriate action.

Scoop: Elon Musk joined Trump's call with Zelensky
Behind the scenes: The call between Trump and Zelensky lasted around 25 minutes, according to the sources who were briefed on its details.
After Zelensky congratulated Trump, the president-elect said he will support Ukraine, but didn't go into details.
Three sources briefed on the call all told Axios that Zelensky felt the call went well and that it did not increase his anxiety about Trump's victory. One source said it "didn't leave Zelensky with a feeling of despair."
Musk also weighed in during the call to say he will continue supporting Ukraine through his Starlink satellites, the sources said. Musk did not respond to a request for comment.
Starlink has been crucial to Ukraine's war effort, though Musk has also mocked Zelensky's requests for U.S. aid, and Zelensky rebuked the billionaire for proposing a peace plan of his own in 2022.

Who’s The Boss? Trump, Powell, or the “Market”?
This week, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell was asked if he would step down if President Trump asked him to resign. Powell answered “No.” The law does not permit the president to fire the Fed chairman. Powell didn’t mention, however, that The Federal Reserve is unconstitutional to begin with. No power was ever granted to the federal government to create a monopoly bank that manipulates interest rates and counterfeits money. So the big issue is not who has more authority over the other; the president or the Fed chairman. The issue is that the Federal Reserve should not exist at all!

Donald Trump's phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday included two surprises: Elon Musk was also on the line, and Zelensky was somewhat reassured by what he heard from the president-elect, two sources with knowledge of the call tell Axios.
Why it matters: The new details of the call underscore how influential Musk could be in the second Trump administration, and the uncertainty over how exactly Trump will approach Ukraine.
Between the lines: Trump's public messages throughout the election campaign — promising a quick resolution to the war, declining to say which side he wanted to win and criticizing the massive aid packages flowing from Washington — raised alarm bells in Kyiv and throughout Europe.
• TheBiden administration is now looking for ways to get as much military assistance as possibleto Ukraine ahead of Jan. 20, when Trump could turn off the spigot.
• But the private conversations Trump and his team have had with Zelensky and his advisers over the last two months — including on Wednesday — were somewhat more reassuring to the Ukrainians, the sources say.
• Zelensky himself felt the fact that the call happened so soon after Trump was declared the winner was a positive sign, one of the sources told Axios. Trump has yet to speak with Vladimir Putin since the election, but the Russian president said he will pick up if Trump calls.
Behind the scenes: The call between Trump and Zelensky lasted around 25 minutes, according to the sources who were briefed on its details.
• After Zelensky congratulated Trump, the president-elect said he will support Ukraine, but didn't go into details.
• Three sources briefed on the call all told Axios that Zelensky felt the call went well and that it did not increase his anxiety about Trump's victory. One source said it "didn't leave Zelensky with a feeling of despair."
• Musk also weighed in during the call to say he will continue supporting Ukraine through his Starlink satellites, the sources said. Musk did not respond to a request for comment.
o Starlink has been crucial to Ukraine's war effort, though Musk has also mocked Zelensky's requests for U.S. aid, and Zelensky rebuked the billionaire for proposing a peace plan of his own in 2022.
Reality check: Much went unsaid, and much remains unknown. Trump and Zelensky did not delve into policies like Trump's purported plan to end the war, or the prospect of further U.S. aid, the sources said.
Flashback: Zelensky met Trump in September in New York, at which time they discussed the war with Russia and a possible diplomatic path for ending it.
• According to three sources with knowledge of that meeting, Trump told Zelensky he would not abandon Ukraine, but wants to give diplomacy a chance.
• "I promise you will be happy with me," Trump told Zelensky during that meeting, according to a source with knowledge. The Trump campaign declined to comment on Wednesday's call or the previous meeting.
• ==In attendance at that meeting was former U.S. ambassador to
Germany Richard Grenell==, a possible Trump pick for secretary of state or another senior post. Grenell is expected to play a leading role in any Ukraine diplomacy.
• Since the meeting in New York, Zelensky's advisers have kept an open channel of communication with Trump's aides. Trump told Zelensky Wednesday that they would continue the conversations after he assembles his foreign policy team.

What they're saying:
"Nothing of what Zelensky and his aides heard from Trump and his team in private has been alarming or made us feel that Ukraine is going to be the one who pays the price."
— Source familiar with the conversations
"I had an excellent call with President Trump and congratulated him on his historic landslide victory — his tremendous campaign made this result possible," Zelensky wrote on X after the call on Wednesday.
• "Strong and unwavering U.S. leadership is vital for the world and for a just peace," Zelensky said, adding that he and Trump agreed to maintain close dialogue.
• Yes, but: In a speech in Budapest on Thursday, Zelensky made clear that despite his positive call with Trump, he "cannot yet know what his actions will be."
The big picture: During the campaign, Trump repeatedly said he would immediately push for Ukraine-Russia peace talks if elected, and even claimed he could get a deal within 24 hours.
• On Thursday in Budapest, Zelensky acknowledged that Trump wants to end the war quickly but stressed they did not discuss that in detail during the call.
• "If it's just fast, it means losses for Ukraine. I just don't yet understand how this could be in any other way. Maybe we do not know something, do not see," Zelensky said.
• He stressed Ukraine wants "a fair end to the war" that includes security guarantees.
The intrigue: Musk also joined Trump's call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who told reporters that Musk and Trump had been having dinner together at the time.
What to watch: Even though they're wary of potential peace talks, the Ukrainians see some upside in breaking with the current "negative status-quo," one source briefed on government deliberations said.
• Three sources with knowledge of Ukrainian government assessments said that Kyiv expects that if peace talks do take place, they will agree to participate but Putin will either reject the talks or take steps that doom them to failure.

'Failed experiment': Experts reveal why Soros-backed policies took beating in deep blue state
Progressive politicians across the state of California suffered losses on Tuesday
The progressive crime agenda, largely pushed by liberal megadonor George Soros, suffered a major defeat in deep blue California this week after voters soundly rejected progressive prosecutors and policies, which experts tell Fox News Digital represents a major sea change.
"I think that this is broader than just a message from people who care about crime," Cully Stimson, senior legal fellow at the Heritage Foundation and co-author of the book "Rogue Prosecutors: How Radical Soros Lawyers Are Destroying America's Communities," told Fox News Digital.
"This is a massive mandate and cry for help from the general population that we want our state back. We want our counties back, and we want our cities back and that our failed social experiments have had enough time, and they're an absolute, abysmal failure."
California voters overwhelmingly voted in favor of Prop 36 on Tuesday, which rolled back key provisions of Proposition 47, which was advertised by Democrats in the state as progressive crime reforms that would make the state safer.
"For too long, [California Gov.] Gavin Newsom, [Los Angeles District Attorney] George Gascón and Democrat leaders have been trying to tell voters not to believe what they were seeing when it comes to crime," Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco told Fox News Digital. "They wanted to gaslight the public into thinking that our eyes have been lying to us. Well, the people have spoken in an overwhelming fashion. The results in the LA DA race and the Prop 36 race make it clear that Californians are done with the Democrats' soft-on-crime experiments that put our communities' safety at risk."
When Proposition 47 passed in 2014, it downgraded most thefts from felonies to misdemeanors if the amount stolen was under $950, "unless the defendant had prior convictions of murder, rape, certain sex offenses, or certain gun crimes."
"You see all of these Walgreens, the first In N Out Burger to close, all these CVS in downtown San Francisco and L.A. closing, these mom-and-pop shops closing because you're literally telling people you can steal up to $950, and nothing's going to happen to you," Stimson told Fox News Digital. "Nobody with an ounce of common sense, left or right, thinks that that is a good idea. That is not reimagining criminal justice. That is a cancer unleashed on society under the fig leaf of reform."
Progressives suffered another major loss in the city of Los Angeles, where District Attorney George Gascón, backed by Soros, was defeated by former federal prosecutor Nathan Hochman as crime was seen as a top issue of the election cycle.
In another loss for Soros-backed prosecutors in the Golden State, Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price was recalled early Wednesday, less than two years after taking office, following backlash for her alleged soft-on-crime approach.
Oakland Democratic Mayor Sheng Thao, who faced heat from her constituents amid rising crime, was also ousted from office after her recall effort passed with 65% of the vote.
In San Francisco, where crime has been a major concern with voters, Democratic Mayor London Breed lost her re-election campaign.
"I don't think this has really cabined to people who cared about crime," Stimson said. "This is just we want our beautiful state back. We want our beautiful cities back. And your cancerous failed social experiment, your social pandemic that you've unleashed on us is gone. We're done. We're done with this. And that's what's happening."

Justice Department Announces Murder-For-Hire and Related Charges Against IRGC Asset and Two Local Operatives
Friday, November 8, 2024
For Immediate Release
Office of Public Affairs
Iranian Asset Farhad Shakeri Employed Multiple Associates in the New York City Area to Surveil and Murder a U.S. Citizen of Iranian Origin Who Has Publicly Opposed the Iranian Government
Shakeri Was Tasked by Iranian Regime with Surveilling and Plotting to Assassinate President-Elect Donald J. Trump
Note: View the criminal complaint here.
Farhad Shakeri, 51, of Iran;Carlisle Rivera, also known as Pop, 49, of Brooklyn, New York; and Jonathon Loadholt, 36, of Staten Island, New York, were charged today in a criminal complaint in connection with their alleged involvement in a plot to murder a U.S. citizen of Iranian origin in New York. Rivera was arrested in Brooklyn, New York, and Loadholt was arrested in Staten Island, New York, yesterday. Shakeri remains at large and is believed to reside in Iran. Rivera and Loadholt made their initial appearance in the Southern District of New York yesterday and were ordered detained pending trial.
“There are few actors in the world that pose as grave a threat to the national security of the United States as does Iran,” said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. “The Justice Department has charged an asset of the Iranian regime who was tasked by the regime to direct a network of criminal associates to further Iran’s assassination plots against its targets, including President-elect Donald Trump. We have also charged and arrested two individuals who we allege were recruited aspart of that networkto silence and kill, on U.S. soil, an American journalist who has been a prominent critic of the regime. We will not stand for the Iranian regime’s attempts to endanger the American people and America’s national security.”
“The charges announced today expose Iran's continued brazen attempts to target U.S. citizens, including President-elect Donald Trump, other government leaders and dissidents who criticize the regime in Tehran,” said FBI Director Christopher Wray. “The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps — a designated foreign terrorist organization — has been conspiring with criminals and hitmen to target and gun down Americans on U.S. soil and that simply won’t be tolerated. Thanks to the hard work of the FBI, their deadly schemes were disrupted. We're committed to using the full resources of the FBI to protect our citizens from Iran or any other adversary who targets Americans.”
“Actors directed by the Government of Iran continue to target our citizens, including President-elect Trump, on U.S. soil and abroad. This has to stop,” said U.S. Attorney Damian Williams for the Southern District of New York. “Today’s charges are another message to those who continue in their efforts – we will remain unrelenting in our pursuit of bad actors, no matter where they reside, and will stop at nothing to bring to justice those who harm our safety and security. I want to thank the career prosecutors of this office and our law enforcement partners for their ongoing work in this and related investigations. They are truly the best of the best and work tirelessly to keep our country safe.”
According to the complaint and other public statements and filings, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran (the Government of Iran) is actively targeting nationals of the United States and its allies living in countries around the world for attacks, including assault, kidnapping, and murder, both to repress and silence dissidents critical of the Iranian regime and to take vengeance for the January 2020 death of then-Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Qods Force (IRGC-QF), Qasem Soleimani, who was killed by a U.S. drone strike in Baghdad. The IRGC is an Iranian military and counterintelligence agency under the authority of Iran’s Supreme Leader, comprised of components including an external operations force, the IRGC-QF, and has been designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the U.S. Secretary of State since April 15, 2019. The IRGC has publicly stated its desire to avenge the death of Soleimani, and, among its activities, the IRGC plots and conducts attack operations outside Iran targeting U.S. citizens residing in the United States and abroad.

>Justice Department Announces Murder-For-Hire and Related Charges Against IRGC Asset and Two Local Operatives
Shakeri is an IRGC asset residing in Tehran, Iran. Shakeri immigrated to the United States as a child and was deported in or about 2008 after serving 14 years in prison for a robbery conviction. In recent months, Shakeri has used a network of criminal associates he met in prison in the United States to supply the IRGC with operatives to conduct surveillance and assassinations of IRGC targets. Two members of Shakeri’s network are his co-defendants, Loadholt and Rivera. At Shakeri’s instruction, Loadholt and Rivera have spent months surveilling a U.S. citizen of Iranian origin residing in the United States (Victim-1). Victim-1 is an outspoken critic of the Iranian regime and has been the target of multiple prior plots for kidnapping and/or murder directed by the Government of Iran. In exchange for Shakeri’s promise of $100,000, Rivera and Loadholt repeatedly sought to locate Victim-1 for murder.
During their efforts to locate and kill Victim-1, Shakeri, Loadholt, and Rivera shared messages about their progress and photographs relating to their scheme. For example, in or about February 2024, Rivera and Loadholt messaged about an incoming payment from Shakeri, and then traveled to Fairfield University, where Victim-1 was scheduled to appear, and took photographs on campus. In or about April, Shakeri sent Rivera a series of voice notes discussing their efforts to locate and kill Victim-1. In one voice note, Shakeri told Rivera that Victim-1 spent most of her time in particular locations of her home, and told Rivera that “you just gotta have patience … You gotta wait and have patience to catch her either going in the house or coming out, or following her out somewhere and taking care of it. Don’t think about going in. In is a suicide move.” On several occasions over the last several months, consistent with this instruction from Shakeri, Rivera and/or Loadholt have surveilled a location in Brooklyn that they had identified as associated with Victim-1.
In addition, according to statements made by Shakeri in recorded interviews with law enforcement agents, the IRGC has also tasked Shakeri with carrying out other assassinations against U.S. and Israeli citizens located in the United States. In particular, Shakeri has informed law enforcement that he was tasked on Oct. 7, 2024, with providing a plan to kill President-elect Donald J. Trump. During the interview, Shakeri claimed he did not intend to propose a plan to kill Trump within the timeframe set by the IRGC. He also stated he was tasked with surveilling two Jewish American citizens residing in New York City and offered $500,000 by an IRGC official for the murder of either victim. He was also tasked with targeting Israeli tourists in Sri Lanka.
Shakeri, Rivera, and Loadholt have all been charged with murder-for-hire, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison; conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison; and money laundering conspiracy, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
Shakeri has also been charged with conspiring to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison; providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison; and conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and sanctions against the Government of Iran, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. If convicted, a federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The FBI New York Field Office is investigating the case. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection New York Field Office and Drug Enforcement Administration New York Division assisted in the investigation.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jacob H. Gutwillig and Michael Lockard and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Isaacson for the Southern District of New York, Trial Attorneys Dmitry Slavin of the National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section, and Christopher Rigali and Leslie Esbrook of the National Security Division’s Counterintelligence and Export Control Section are prosecuting the case.
A complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
