Rite Aid has now shut all the stores it once had in Michigan and Ohio - meaning tens of thousands of customers need to find new pharmacies.

The drugstore's latest filings at bankruptcy court show it has now completely cut all ties with the two Midwestern states.

Rite Aid had more than 2,000 stores before it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October 2023 as it battled mounting debts.

Soon after, bosses announced the initial closures of 154. Since then, a steady stream of filings have taken closures to 856, DailyMail.com analysis shows.

The latest closures - 74 so far in August- were all in the two Midwest states apart from one each in California and Washington. That is on top of 169 in July, all in Ohio and Michigan.

Under a year ago the two states had the fourth and fifth highest number of Rite Aids in the US. Now all 234 in Michigan and 183 in Ohio have been shuttered, or will be soon.

A reputed Peruvian gang leader suspected in 23 killings in his home country was arrested Wednesday in New York by U.S. immigration authorities.

Gianfranco Torres-Navarro, the leader of "Los Killers" who is wanted for the killings in Peru, was arrested in Endicott, New York, about 233 kilometers (144.7 miles) northwest of New York City, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Thursday. He is being held at a federal detention facility near Buffalo pending an immigration hearing.

Torres-Navarro, 38, entered the U.S. illegally at the Texas-Mexico border on May 16. He was arrested the same day and given a notice to appear for immigration proceedings, according to ICE. U.S. authorities moved to arrest Torres-Navarro after receiving information on July 8 that he was wanted in Peru.

Jim Harbaugh Backpedals: Says He Will Not Hire Kaepernick as Coach or Player

Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh is back-peddling after news broke that he had offered national anthem protester and social justice warrior Colin Kaepernick a coaching position. Harbaugh initially told the media that he made the offer early this year.

“Yeah, we talked a little bit about it,” Harbaugh said in an interview with USA Today. “He’s considering it. He was out of the country. He said he was going to get back to me. We haven’t reconnected since then. That was early, early in the year.”

Despite the surprising discussion, though, Harbaugh is now backtracking and telling the media that Kaepernick is not going to be joining the Chargers in any capacity after all.

“I love Colin, but he’s not going to be on the coaching staff, which is set for this year. And he’s not going to be playing on the roster either,” Harbaugh now says, according to ESPN.

Of course, Harbaugh coached Kaepernick when the two were part of the San Francisco 49ers organization and was present when the team lost the Super Bowl to Baltimore in 2013.

But Harbaugh was long gone before Kaepernick suddenly became the face of anti-Americanism in 2016 when he launched the scheme of taking a knee during the playing of the national anthem to protest against America, our police, our history, our military, and our flag.

Harbaugh had added earlier this week that former Raiders owner Al Davis had convinced him that Kaepernick might have the stuff for coaching.

“Al Davis saw something in me that made him think I would be a good coach, and I see those same qualities in Colin,” Harbaugh told ESPN, “if it is something he chooses.”

Kaepernick has not played since the end of the 2016 season, when he became a free agent and rejected the 49ers’ offer to stay with the team. But he makes an annual publicity grab by claiming he is still in tip-top condition and ready to return to the NFL.

Still, he has also excoriated the league, comparing it to a “slave auction,” and insisting it does not do enough for social justice despite the millions the league has donated to causes — including his own.

In his TV series Colin In Black & White, which he also narrates, the former 49er quarterback appears in a scene where he implies that the NFL is like a slave master and talks about potential NFL players being “poked, prodded, and examined” for defects before an NFL Draft. The players at the “combine” then leave the NFL field and enter a mid-1800s slave auction where white landowners examine slaves for purchase.

In the scene, Kaepernick says this is how “they” establish a “power dynamic.” The scene closes with the NFL coach and slave auctioneer shaking hands against the backdrop of bonded slaves in an attempt to establish a generational link between the professional athlete selection process and slavery.

Coach Harbaugh’s move to offer Kaepernick a coaching job might not be a big surprise, though. He already has three other former 49ers players on his coaching staff: NaVorro Bowman, Jonathan Goodwin, and Will Tukuafu.

Chicago businesses are already boarding up their storefronts downtown ahead of Monday’s opening of the Democratic National Convention in anticipation of mass rioting and violence. Plywood shielding first began showing up Thursday morning as the city’s shopping district opened for business. “As we know, this city has a poor track record when it comes to protecting businesses,” Scott Shapiro, owner of Syd Jerome, told Chicago’s WLS-TV. “We felt it was more prudent to board up, since our customers and their employers have told them to stay home throughout the convention for their own safety,” Shapiro added. It makes perfect sense for Shapiro to take precautions.

The appointment of former Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to the Australia Post board has sparked outrage amid the Coalition ranks, with claims it is another example of Labor giving jobs to "mates."

The Coalition has condemned the appointment of ex-Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to a government board, accusing the Labor Party of giving jobs to "mates."

The former state Labor leader was announced as a non-executive director of the Australia Post board on Friday, following the departure of Tony Nutt who completed two-terms.

Ms Palaszczuk - the longest serving female premier in Australia's history - will serve a three-year term on the board, the government confirmed, after she quit her 17-year stint in politics in December.

She is expected to receive $107,180 a year for her services, based on a recent Remuneration Tribunal determination.

Hours after the 55-year-old's appointment was announced, the Liberal Party released a statement condemning the move.

"The Albanese Labor Government has continued its record of hypocrisy in appointing Labor mates to Government Boards. Today's announcement that failed former Labor Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk would be appointed to the board of Australia Post is treating Australians like mugs," the media release signed by Shadow Communications Minister David Coleman and Shadow Finance Minister Jane Hume said.

The statement also accused Labor of waiting until Friday to make the announcement so it could avoid scrutiny during the parliamentary sitting week.

Mr Coleman said the appointment was "rank hypocrisy" and claimed it added further insult to injury that it was a "failed and unpopular" ex-premier chosen for the role.

"Australia Post is going through a significant reform process in an era of change and the last thing the board needs is for the Government to appoint one of its Labor mates whose poor record in public administration speaks for itself," he said.

Kamala Harris traveled to the swing state of North Carolina on Friday to give her first policy address as Democratic presidential nominee where she vowed to create an 'opportunity economy' by building up the middle class.

The vice president said when the economy is strong 'America is strong' and rolled out a series of policy proposals she would push for in her first 100 days in office if elected president.

But she ended up bungling the announcement of her ban on price gouging instead mispronouncing it as 'price gauging.'

During her speech, Harris touted some of the policies advanced under the Biden administration and vowed to go further while setting a sharp contrast with her political opponent Donald Trump.

BREAKING: J.D. Vance's campaign plane was forced to make an emergency landing after a malfunction in flight on Friday afternoon.

Early reports suggest there was a problem with its main cabin door.

But I need my president to tell me why I worked so hard all these years, all these decades. Couldn't get a business loan, but I bust my ass to get the money to create my business. And we got immigrants coming here, and they're getting money. Money. We're doing nothing but just being here. It's not right, and I want answers.”

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A local sniper likely saved lives at former President Donald Trump's rally in Butler Township last month when his single shot hit the attempted assassin's gun.

A report from Louisiana Congressman Clay Higgins said a Butler SWAT operator shot the gun of the gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, from about 100 yards away. The shot hit the gunman's rifle stock and fragmented into his face, neck and right shoulder area from the stock breaking into pieces.

Crooks went down but recovered after just a few seconds and popped back up, the report says. The shot delayed the shooter long enough for a United States Secret Service sniper to take the fatal shot.

A Pennsylvania congressman who was on the ground in Butler Township for three days submitted his preliminary report to the U.S. House task force investigating the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly of Butler made that report public on Thursday.

"The faith and trust and confidence the American people have to have has been shaken so badly," Kelly, a Republican representing Pennsylvania's 16th District, said.

The Butler native and chair of the U.S. House task force investigating the assassination attempt on July 13 was at the rally that day. Now more than one month later, he has more questions than answers.

"The one thing we know: If they can't give you a definitive answer, it's because there was no definitive plan," Kelly said.

Two weeks earlier, acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe Jr. testified before Congress. He showed a picture of the AGR roof, insisting local counter snipers inside a nearby building should have seen the shooter on the roof.

Local law enforcement working the rally said they told the Secret Service they did not have the manpower to do it.

"I was disappointed, first of all, that someone in that position would go ahead and make this supposition and say here's the problem, the local guys didn't do their job," Kelly said.

"Law enforcement came in to help out that day, not to take the place of the federal agents that were there," Kelly added.

Eight minutes before the shooting, officers saw the gunman moving between buildings at the AGR complex. That information was sent from the county command post to the Secret Service's separate command post.

At the same time, a video shows panicked police and troopers with guns drawn searching for the shooter while Trump is speaking on stage.

"Why do you think they did not take former president Trump off the stage?" KDKA-TV's Jennifer Borrasso asked Kelly.

"I have absolutely no idea," Kelly said.

Law enforcement could not get to the shooter before he fired eight shots, injuring Trump, David Dutch and Jim Copenhaver and killing Corey Comperatore.

"If they were suspicious of somebody being there that shouldn't be there, just keep them back. Corey would be alive today, the other two men that were wounded would not be wounded. The president would not have been wounded."

Rutgers athletic director Pat Hobbs resigned suddenly Friday afternoon, ending the stint of the athletic director with the longest continuous tenure within the Big Ten.

Hobbs will be replaced on an interim basis by deputy athletic director Ryan Pisarri as the school begins a search for a permanent replacement.

Hobbs' resignation note, which was distributed internally at Rutgers, referenced his health and a recent meeting with his "cardiac team."

"After meeting with my cardiac team this week and having just been apprised of the results of my latest round of testing, it is clear that I can not continue to serve as Athletic Director given the requirements of the position," Hobbs wrote in an email to school president Jonathan Holloway. "I recognize this is not the ideal timeframe to depart, however other factors need to take precedence."

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Supreme Court declined on Friday to let President Joe Biden's administration enforce a key part of a new rule protecting LGBT students from discrimination in schools and colleges based on gender identity in 10 Republican-led states that had challenged it.

The justices denied the administration's request to partially lift lower court injunctions that had blocked the entirety of the rule expanding protections under Title IX, a law that bars sex discrimination in federally funded education programs, while litigation continues. The lower court decisions had prevented the U.S. Education Department from enforcing the new rule, announced in April and set to take effect on Aug. 1, in Tennessee, Louisiana and eight other states.

The administration had sought to restore a key provision of clarifying that discrimination "on the basis of sex" encompasses sexual orientation and gender identity, as well as the rule's numerous other provisions that do not address gender identity.

Biden's administration had asked the Supreme Court to intervene on an emergency basis in a lawsuit by Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Idaho, and numerous Louisiana school boards, and another lawsuit by Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, West Virginia and an association of Christian educators.

"These final regulations clarify Title IX's requirement that schools promptly and effectively address all forms of sex discrimination," U.S. Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Catherine Lhamon said when the rule was announced. "We look forward to working with schools, students and families to prevent and eliminate sex discrimination."

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill called the rule a federal overreach that would eviscerate Title IX, and criticized what she called Biden's "extreme gender ideology."

"This is all for a political agenda, ignoring significant safety concerns for young women students in pre-schools, elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities across Louisiana and the entire country," Murrill said of the federal rule when she announced the state's lawsuit.

"These schools now have to change the way they behave and the way they speak, and whether they can have private spaces for little girls or women. It is enormously invasive, and it is much more than a suggestion; it is a mandate that well exceeds their statutory authority," Murrill added.

The states and the other plaintiffs had argued that the rule would force schools to allow transgender students to use restrooms and locker rooms, and faculty to use transgender students' pronouns, that correspond to their gender identities.

The lawsuits are two among several that have successfully blocked the law in 22 states- nearly all Republican-governed - arguing that the Democratic president's administration is unlawfully rewriting a law designed more than a half century ago to protect women from discrimination in education.

On July 30, the administration scored a win when a federal judge in Alabama refused to block the rule in that state, as well as Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. That ruling was temporarily halted the next day by the Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

EXCLUSIVE: Harris Campaign Attempts To Mask Its Own Retreat With Outright Lie About Debates

The Trump campaign said Friday that the Kamala Harris campaign lied when it claimed the two sides reached a debate agreement a day prior.

After former President Donald Trump announced that he proposed three presidential debates, the Harris campaign released a statement Thursday claiming that Trump had “accepted our proposal for three debates — two presidential and a vice presidential debate.” National Press Secretary for the Trump campaign, Karoline Leavitt, told the Daily Callerthat the statement was a lie, and the former president will be on the debate stage for his three proposed events, in addition to two VP matchups.

“Let’s be clear: President Trump will be on the debate stage THREE times with Fox News, ABC and NBC/Telemundo. Likewise, Senator Vance will show up to debate Tim Walz on TWO occasions, on September 18 with CNN and October 1 with CBS. If Harris and Walz don’t show up, an empty podium can stand in their place, proving to the American people just how weak they are,” Leavitt continued.

In its Thursday statement, the Harris campaign wrote that if Trump shows up to a Sept. 10 debate, then Americans “will have another opportunity to see the vice president and Donald Trump on the debate stage in October.” Leavitt told the Caller that there has not been a proposed October debate discussed, despite the Harris campaign’s statement.

“There’s been no proposal from a network for an October debate. They’re just throwing that out there needlessly,”Leavitt told the Caller. “President Trump committed to three debates. Kamala should commit to the same three debates. We both, both campaigns, received the exact same debate invitations from those three networks,” she added.

The Harris campaign began its statement by claiming “the debate about debates is over.” Leavitt indicated that is far from the truth.

“Harris’s advisors do not trust her competence and skills to debate President Trump. So they are trying to get away with seeing how she performs on the September debate, and then maybe they’ll commit to an October debate. That’s not how this works,” Leavitt told the Caller.

“Kamala Harris is a COWARD. She refuses to do a press conference, refuses to take a sit-down interview, and refuses to accept the three debate invitations agreed to by President Trump. Harris won’t speak unscripted because she can’t defend her dangerously liberal record and failed four years in the White House,” Leavitt said.

The saga between the Trump campaign and their Democratic opponents over when and where to debate has dragged on for months.Both sides agreed early on to abandon the typical process of working with the Commission on Presidential Debates to set up the contests, leading to the two campaigns to have to negotiate with each other, and television networks, on the time and place they would occur.

After not debating during the Republican presidential primary, Trump openly challenged President Joe Biden to debate numerous times before Biden finally accepted a matchup for June. The decision proved fatal for the Biden campaign — his performance was so widely panned that it resulted in fellow Democrats forcing him out of the presidential race.

Biden and Trump had agreed previously to a second debate in September, but once Biden was replaced with Vice President Harris, the Trump camp contended that agreement was null and void. Since then, the two sides have been locked in a back-and-forth on how many debates there will be, which networks will host them, and when they will take place.

Part of the back-and-forth surrounded the vice presidential debates. CBS News proposed four potential dates for vice presidential debates. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz committed to an Oct. 1 debate, but Senator J.D. Vance later accepted both the Oct. 1 debate and an additional Sept. 18 debate on CNN.

The only debate both sides have locked in without a doubt is the Sept. 10 debate on ABC News.The Harris campaign seemingly wants to push the second debate to October, after which many Americans will already have been able to vote early, in some states for weeks.

A New York Trump-enthusiast was allegedly refused entry to Citi Field after staff at the stadium spotted her wearing a MAGA hat.

Aura Moody, a board member of the Queens Village Republican Club, was allegedly stopped from entering the stadium on Wednesday until she took off the cap.

She told DailyMail.com that she and a friend, Taisha, were halted by staff as soon as they passed through security, and were told they 'had to remove' the hats and return to the parking lot before they could enter. 'I told them, I have First Amendment rights!' Moody said. 'They told me it was political, I said you cannot do that!'

It comes amid growing national tensions in the lead up to November's presidential election, with exclusive DailyMail.com polling finding that political divisions have driven Americans further apart on key issues than ever before.

Moody and Taisha said they were attending the ball game with other members of the Queens Village Republican Club, situated in deep-blue New York City, which claims to be America's oldest Republican club. After passing by security, Moody was allegedly stopped by a Mets employee, and told she was not allowed to wear a red baseball cap with the words 'Make America Great Again' on the front.

She said she was outraged at the move, and berated staff: 'I have the right to wear whatever I like.' 'I felt as though I was in a communist country,' she added. The two women said they were intent on enjoying their evening, so eventually complied and returned their hats to their cars before watching the game to join the rest of their conservative group inside.

Taisha added that she felt she and Moody were 'discriminated against' in the situation, as she blamed 'the climate' as the nation heads into an election. Both women said they complained with Citi Field after the game, and are considering whether to file a police report.

In a Facebook post on the incident, a friend of Moody's said he was stunned by the decision, and shared it to social media.

'Folks, I honestly don't give a s*** if you despite Donald Trump, that is NOT what this is about!' the post read. 'Is this the America you want to live in?'

Viewers reacted with outrage after Moody's alleged expulsion from Citi Field after it was shared by journalist Miranda Devine, with one questioning: 'Do they send people back to their car if they have on a (Kamala) Harris shirt?' Others branded the move 'ridiculous' and urged Moody to explore whether her rights were violated.

When your opponent calls you ‘communist,’ maybe don’t propose price controls?

It’s hard to exaggerate how bad Kamala Harris’s price-gouging proposal is.

“Price gouging” is the focus of Vice President Kamala Harris’s economic agenda, her presidential campaign says. She’ll crack down on “excessive prices” and “excessive corporate profits,” particularly for groceries.

So what level counts as “excessive,” you might ask? TBD, but Harris will ban it.

That’s the thing about price gouging: As has been said of hardcore pornography, you know it when you see it.

It’s not hard to figure out where this proposal came from. Voters want to blame someone for high grocery bills, and the presidential candidates have apparently decided the choices are either the Biden administration or corporate greed. Harris has chosen the latter.

In a news release Wednesday, her campaign said the first 100 days of her presidency would include the “first-ever federal ban on price gouging on food and groceries — setting clear rules of the road to make clear that big corporations can’t unfairly exploit consumers to run up excessive corporate profits on food and groceries.”

What are these “clear rules of the road” or the thresholds that determine when a price or profit level becomes “excessive”? The memo doesn’t say, and the campaign did not answer questions I sent seeking clarification.

The most likely template for Harris’s proposal is a recent bill from Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). (Harris co-sponsored similar legislation with Warren in 2020, when Harris was a senator.) Warren’s bill would ban any “grossly excessive price” during any “atypical disruption” of a market. Alas, no definition was provided for these terms, either; rather, the bill would empower the Federal Trade Commission to enforce bans using any metric it deems appropriate.

It’s hard to exaggerate how bad this policy is. It is, in all but name, a sweeping set of government-enforced price controls across every industry, not only food. Supply and demand would no longer determine prices or profit levels. Far-off Washington bureaucrats would. The FTC would be able to tell, say, a Kroger in Ohio the acceptable price it can charge for milk.

At best, this would lead to shortages, black markets and hoarding, among other distortions seen previous times countries tried to limit price growth by fiat. (There’s a reason narrower “price gouging” laws that exist in some U.S. states are rarely invoked.) At worst, it might accidentally raise prices.

That’s because, among other things, the legislation would ban companies from offering lower prices to a big customer such as Costco than to Joe’s Corner Store, which means quantity discounts are in trouble. Worse, it would require public companies to publish detailed internal data about costs, margins, contracts and their future pricing strategies. Posting cost and pricing plans publicly is a fantastic way for companies to collude to keep prices higher — all facilitated by the government. …

CNN: I read your piece, and I heard you just mention it, the federal ban on price gouging for groceries. You are skeptical of this. Why?

RAMPELL: Well, first of all, nobody can explain what price gouging means. It's like that old line about pornography: I know it when I see it, in the sense that, what does it mean to have an excessive price or an excessive profit margin? That seems to be shorthand for a price or a profit margin that bugs me. That seems too high.

So, you know, it's very hard to pin down what this would actually mean. If you look at the legislation that, as I mentioned, is already in the Senate, led by Senator Warren and Senator Bob Casey and a slew of others. The particular way that this is written, which is likely to be the template for any proposal that Harris would eventually embrace, is especially bad in that it just bans "excessive prices, grossly excessive prices, grossly excessive profit margins," and says that the Federal Trade Commission can use any metric it deems appropriate to decide what that would mean.

Which basically says, like, it's not going to be markets, it's not going to be supply and demand that's determining how much your grocery store charges you for for milk or for eggs. It's going to be some bureaucrat in DC.

Which seems totally unworkable, first of all, for the FTC to be deciding how much Kroger charges for eggs in Michigan. But it also would be very bad for markets. We've seen this kind of thing tried in lots of other countries before, Venezuela, Argentina, the Soviet Union, et cetera. It leads to shortages. It leads to black markets, plenty of uncertainty.

And beyond that, the specific way this bill is written might actually increase prices because of some of the other language in it, things like requiring companies, public companies, to disclose in their quarterly reports, the quarterly earnings reports, how they're setting prices, which is a great way to help them collude, which normally we don't want them to do.

So anyway, you know, the devil's in the in the details, I guess, for that bill. But it's really hard for me to imagine any form of legislation that preserves the spirit of what she's proposing that would not be, you know, at best, do nothing. At worst, cause a lot of harm.
