Kremlin weighs in on potential Harris candidacy

Joe Biden has endorsed his vice president after announcing on Sunday that he will not seek reelection in November

Moscow cannot predict what Kamala Harris’ approach to Russia will be if she is nominated as the Democratic Party’s candidatein the US presidential election, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has said. Harris has not played any meaningful role in bilateral relations as US vice president, except for a few “unfriendly”remarks, he added.

US President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he will not seek reelection in the November 5 vote. The 81-year-old had faced increasing pressure from within the Democratic Party to step aside in the wake of his disastrous performance during last month’s debate against Republican rival Donald Trump.

Shortly after making his decision public, Biden endorsed Vice President Harris as the Democratic Party nominee.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Peskov said: “At the moment, we cannot evaluate the potential candidacy ofMs. Harris in terms of our bilateral relations, for any contribution on her part has not been noticed so far.”

Statements Harris has made on Russia to date “have been full of rather unfriendly rhetoric toward our country,” Peskov added. “We haven’t registered any other actions by her, whether positive or negative, regarding our bilateral relations.”

According to Peskov, Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race “cannot be a priority topic on our agenda” as it is not an internal Russian matter.

“It’s not for us to evaluate decisions made by the [US] president and candidates,” the Kremlin representative told journalists.

The recent developments “should preoccupy US voters,” Peskov said.

When asked whether the Russian leadership was surprised by Biden’s decision to drop out of the race, Peskov replied: “Frankly speaking, what has been happening in the US in recent years has taught us not to be surprised by anything.” KEK

Moscow was “not surprised a lot,” he clarified, adding that Russia is closely following the way the presidential race in the US is unfolding. Peskov noted that the Kremlin does the same with respect to “all other major countries of the world.”

Peskov previously made clear that Moscow has other priorities, rather than waiting for the outcome of the US presidential election.

“For us, reaching the goals of the special military operation [against Ukraine] is a priority,” he told the Russian news outlet Life late on Sunday.

He reiterated the assessment made earlier this year by President Vladimir Putin, who suggested he would have preferred the “more predictable”Biden to come out on top.

Peskov pointed out that there are still four months to go before the US presidential vote, describing it as “a long period, over which many things can change.”

Sometimes the dark dust of interstellar space has an angular elegance. Such is the case toward the far-south constellation of Chamaeleon. Normally too faint to see, dark dust is best known for blocking visible light from stars and galaxies behind it. In this 36.6-hour exposure, however, the dust is seen mostly in light of its own, with its strong red and near-infrared colors creating a brown hue. Contrastingly blue, the bright star Beta Chamaeleontis is visible on the upper right, with the dust that surrounds it preferentially reflecting blue light from its primarily blue-white color. All of the pictured stars and dust occur in our own Milky Way Galaxy with one notable exception: the white spot just below Beta Chamaeleontis is the galaxy IC 3104 which lies far in the distance. Interstellar dust is mostly created in the cool atmospheres of giant stars and dispersed into space by stellar light, stellar winds, and stellar explosions such as supernovas.

Kamala Harris has been mocked over the years over her platitudes, awkward moments and word salads.

She said in Dec. 2023, “You know, every election cycle we talk about this is the most election of our lifetime,” about the 2024 presidential election.

Harris was mocked in July 2023 for saying “Culture is — it is a reflection of our moment in our time, right? And in present culture is the way we express how we’re feeling about the moment,” at the Essence Festival.

Harris has made the phrase "what can be, unburdened by what has been" a staple of her speeches over the past few years, including it multiple times in different iterations.

In a clip that has gone viral on TikTok, Harris spoke about her mother's beliefs about young people.

Harris claimed her mother would say, “I don’t know what’s wrong with you young people. You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?"

"You exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you," Harris continued.

In Oct. 2022, the RNC posted clips of Harris explaining Venn diagrams, which she claimed was her favorite method to deal with conflict.

Throughout the video, Harris explains what a Venn diagram is multiple times and the way that people use them.

During a March 2022 interview on the Morning Hustle podcast, just weeks after the war in Ukraine began, Harris strangely described the conflict.

“Ukraine is a country in Europe…Russia decided to invade a smaller country called Ukraine. So basically that’s wrong," she said.

In a bizarre speech at the Vandenberg Space Force Base in her home state of California, Harris rambled on the concept of "space."

She told the service members at the base that "space — it affects us all" in her April 2022 speech which was widely panned online.

After a July 2022 meeting, Harris was mocked for her introduction, which included her pronouns and a description of what she was wearing. Reportedly, all of the meeting attendees were encouraged to do the same.

"I am Kamala Harris, my pronouns are she and her, and I am a woman sitting at the table wearing a blue suit," Harris said.

Far-right account Libs of TikTok posted a two minute-long compilation of Harris' laughter Sunday afternoon. The vice president has had mixed reactions to her awkward laughter during interviews and events.

IRS Sets Rules on Minimum Annual Withdrawals for Inherited IRAs

Penalties could be imposed if these withdrawals are not made starting next year.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced final rules on Thursday detailing the amounts that must be pulled out yearly from inherited Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA).

An inherited IRA is opened when someone inherits an IRA plan and assets are moved from the original owner to the beneficiary’s account. Before the SECURE Act 2.0 was passed by Congress in 2022 and signed into law, beneficiaries could withdraw funds from an inherited account at their discretion. But the Act now requires that beneficiaries pull out all funds within 10 years of the original owner’s death.

On July 18, the IRS issued final rules on such withdrawals. The rule is related to the required minimum distributions (RMD), or the minimum amounts that IRA owners have to withdraw from their accounts each year when they reach a certain age.

If the original owner had begun RMDs before their death, the beneficiary of the inherited account will have to continue the withdrawals as well, the IRS stated.

The Treasury and the IRS reviewed public comments arguing against the move. The comments suggested that beneficiaries not be forced into making RMDs yearly. Instead, beneficiaries must be allowed to withdraw the funds as they wish within the-10 year period.

The trail will honor several famous flyers throughout Ohio, including Neil Armstrong, John Glenn, Orville and Wilbur Wright, and Ohio’s Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) who served during World War II.

Locations for the trail also include the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, the International Women’s Air & Space Museum, the Armstrong Air & Space Museum, the Great Lakes Science Center/NASA Glenn Visitor Center, WACO Air Museum, and the John & Annie Glenn Museum, among others.

How long have blimps been manufactured at Wingfoot Lake?

In 1916, Goodyear purchased 720 acres in southwest Portage County, near its headquarters in Akron, to begin manufacturing its own blimps.

The 444-acre lake at the site, named Wingfoot Lake, provided the needed water for the operation. During World War I, Wingfoot Lake was instrumental for reconnaissance missions, with nine blimps built at the site for the U.S. Navy.

After the war, the Goodyear blimp fleet was used for advertising and promotional campaigns, including telecasts of college football games. In the 1960s, recreational facilities were developed on the north shore of Wingfoot Lake for Goodyear employees and corporate retreats.

However, in 2006, Goodyear closed Wingfoot Lake Park.

When did Wingfoot Lake become a state park?

The ODNR Division of Wildlife purchased 690 acres of the Wingfoot Lake property in 2009, including Wingfoot Lake.

On a clear day, visitors can spot the Goodyear blimp parked in its hangar on the lake's south shore.

In 2018, the blimp base was designated a state historic landmark, complete with an Ohio Historical Marker at the facility.

The blimp base has operated since 1917, making it the oldest airship hangar in the United States, according to a previous Beacon Journal article.

WASHINGTON, July 18 (Reuters) - Former President Donald Trump met with Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle on Tuesday, ABC News reported on Thursday citing a source, with the meeting coming amid intense scrutiny of the Secret Service's handling of the rally at which Trump was shot.

The meeting took place at the Republican presidential candidate's hotel in Milwaukee three days after the shooting at his rally in Pennsylvania which left Trump with a bleeding ear. It was not clear what was discussed.

A Trump campaign adviser did not confirm or deny the meeting and referred Reuters to the Secret Service, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Cheatle said on Monday that the shooting at Trump's rally was "unacceptable" and that she would not resign. Top Republicans in the U.S. Congress have called for her to resign.

Cheatle has agreed to testify before the U.S. House of Representatives Oversight Committee on July 22 for a hearing, the panel said on Wednesday. The shooting raised serious concerns about how the suspect was able to access a nearby rooftop with a direct line of sight to where Trump was speaking.

Trump has since said he was doing well and has appeared at the Republican National Convention. A rally attendee was killed in the shooting, two others were wounded and the suspect was killed by the Secret Service.

Before plunging to its death, NASA's Cassini spacecraft saw secrets in the seas of Saturn's moon Titan

NASA's Cassini-Huygens spacecraft may have dramatically ended its 20-year mission to explore Saturn's neighborhood seven years ago, when it plunged to into the gas giant, but it is still delivering the scientific goods.

Using radar data collected by Cassini, astronomers from Cornell University have gathered fresh information about the liquid ocean of Saturn's largest moon, Titan, which is comprised of hydrocarbons, a class of organic chemicals made up of carbon and hydrogen.

For instance, that class includes chemicals like methane and ethane.

The team was able to analyze the composition and the "roughness" of Titan's sea, which is located near the world's north pole.

The researchers found calm seas of methane with a gentle tidal current.

Not only is this something that prior examinations of Titan's seas have failed to reveal, but it also lays down a foundation for future investigations into the solar system's ocean moons.

The Cassini data used to make these new findings was collected using "ballistic radar," which involved the spacecraft aiming a radio beam at Titan that was then reflected toward Earth.

The effect of this is the polarization of the surface reflection from Titan, which offered views from two different perspectives.

Standard radar that saw the signal reflected back to Cassini only offered a single perspective.

"The main difference is that the bistatic information is a more complete dataset and is sensitive to both the composition of the reflecting surface and to its roughness," Valerio Poggiali, team member and a Cornell Center for Astrophysics and Planetary Science (CCAPS) researcher, said in a statement.

Cassini launched on Oct. 15, 1997, then took seven years to voyage to the Saturnian system.

NASA collided Cassini with Saturn in 2017 to prevent the spacecraft from ultimately slamming into one of the gas giant's 146 known moons.

The ballistic radar data used by Poggiali and colleagues was collected by Cassini during four flybys on May 17, June 18 and Oct. 24, 2014, and then again on Nov. 14, 2016.

For each of these ballistic radar datasets, the surface reflections were seen as Cassini made its closest approach to Titan, then once again as it moved away from the moon.

The researchers examined observations of three of Titan's polar seas: Kraken Mare, Ligeia Mare, and Punga Mare.

They found that the composition of the hydrocarbon seas' surface layers depended on location and latitude.

In particular, material at the surface of the southernmost portion of Kraken Mare was the most efficient at reflecting radar signals.

All three of Titan's seas seemed to be calm when Cassini observed them, with the spacecraft seeing waves of around 3.3 millimeters.

Where the hydrocarbon seas met the coast, the height of the waves climbed to just 5.2 millimeters, indicating the existence of weak tidal currents.

"We also have indications that the rivers feeding the seas are pure methane until they flow into the open liquid seas, which are more ethane-rich," Poggiali added.

"It's like on Earth when fresh-water rivers flow into and mix with the salty water of the oceans."

The team said that this discovery fits with meteorological models of the Saturnian moon, which have predicted that the rain that falls on Titan is mostly methane, with small amounts of ethane and other hydrocarbons.

Poggiali added that the team is continuing to work with data generated by Cassini during its 13 years studying Titan.

"There is a mine of data that still waits to be fully analyzed in ways that should yield more discoveries," he concluded. "This is only the first step."

The team's research was published on Tuesday (July 16) in the journal Nature Communications.

The projects, worth £33 million, come from the UK Space Agency’s National Space Innovation Programme – designed to invest in high-potential technologies, drive innovation and unlock growth across the UK.

Eight major projects will receive £24 million of the total amount.

These include funding for a sub-orbital rocket test by HyImpulse (Glasgow) from SaxaVord spaceport in Shetland, support for Rolls Royce (Derby) to develop micro reactors to support space exploration, and backing for Cambridge University spin-out SuperSharp to develop and launch a heat-detecting telescope to gather data that can be used to help tackle the climate crisis.

The funding will also support Lunasa (Harwell) to build and test technology to help satellites safely dock with one another, Orbit Fab (Harwell) to develop a solution for satellite refuelling, and Wayland Additive (Huddersfield) to develop an electronic propulsion system.

A project led by Spire Global (Glasgow) will further develop technology to supply unique weather forecasting data to global weather prediction centres, while ETL Systems (Hereford) will advance revolutionary ground equipment that links satellites to 5G and 6G mobile networks, improving connectivity.

DSIT Secretary of State Peter Kyle said:

From combatting climate change to staying connected with loved ones, space technologies play an important role in many aspects of our day to day lives.

But backing the growth of UK space companies is also essential for driving economic growth, boosting productivity, and creating wealth in every community.

Our £33m investment in these projects highlights the huge potential of the UK’s space industry, especially as we collaborate with international partners.

An additional 15 ‘Kick Starter’ projects will receive £9 million between them. These will support technologies and applications that are in an earlier stage of development and increase their readiness for use in commercial and scientific endeavours. The projects cover a wide range of space-related capabilities, from in-orbit servicing and manufacturing, as well as advanced material development and the use of satellite imagery.

Secret Service failures that may have allowedthe assassination attempt on Donald Trumpwere called out by a congressional watchdog nine years ago. Now that watchdog is calling for the resignation of the agency’s chief, Kimberly Cheatle, on the day she is giving testimony to Congress.

In 2015 the House Oversight Committee published a 438-page damning report on the United States Secret Service (USSS) that described an agency ‘in crisis’* with ‘systemic mismanagement’, chronic underfunding, an ‘extraordinarily inefficient hiring process’ and ‘many employees [who] do not have confidence in agency leadership’.

Report author and former top Oversight staffer Tristan Leavitt, who now runs a whistleblower organization, told DailyMail.com that the Trump shooting showed those same problems persist today. (*anon will post on board next)

‘Almost a decade later, it looks like the Secret Service is suffering from some of the exact same problemsit did 10 years ago,’ said Leavitt, president of Empower Oversight.

‘Whether Director Cheatle resigns or is removed, she should be replaced with a director from outside the agency who can clean shop from top to bottom.

• Leavitt pointed to reports that critical security at last weekend's Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, was left to potentially inexperienced or under-trained counter-sniper teams from local police rather than crack Secret Service units, as well as evidence of likely poor communication between local police and USSS.

• Leavitt’s 2015 report highlighted previous stunning failures in presidential security, including officials in 2014 allowing then-POTUS Barack Obama in an elevator with an armed guard with a criminal history of three arrests including shooting at a fleeing vehicle with a child inside.

• The man also later slipped between agents and got inside Obama’s security formation.

• The report detailed a March 2015 incident ‘where two intoxicated senior USSS officials—including a top official on the President’s protective detail—interfered with a crime scene involving a bomb threat just outside the White House grounds.’

‘As bad as those and other details were, they were just symptoms of a much larger breakdown in the USSS,’ Leavitt said. ‘Clearly their leadership hasn’t learned its lessons, and a massive overhaul is still needed.’

• While staying in Cartagena, Colombia, for a presidential visit in April 2012, 13 agents took prostitutes back to their hotel rooms. After the scandal was revealed that month, four agents were fired, five resigned and one retired.

• In September 2014 a veteran with PTSD carrying a knife jumped the White House fence and entered the building’s front door.

• Omar Gonzalez was overpowered by security after her burst through the front door of the White House and got as far the executive mansion's East Room.

• An investigation found outer perimeter security failed to communicate effectively with agents inside, and then-Secret Service director Julia Pierson resigned the following month.

• Leavitt’s 2015 report, written after a yearlong investigation, said it was ‘abundantly clear that USSS is in crisis’.

• ‘As USSS’s mission has grown, its workforce has had to do more with less. USSS is experiencing a staffing crisis that poses perhaps the greatest threat to the agency,’ the report said.

It blamed in part an ‘extraordinarilyinefficient hiring process which overburdens the Secret Service with low-quality applicants’and said ‘personnel who remain are significantly overworked, and morale is at an all-time low’, as ‘many employees do not have confidence in agency leadership’.

It advised dropping the Secret Service’s other duties including cyber and financial crime probes to focus on protection of top politicians.

‘We were told in 2015 that internal recommendations from the 1990s hadn’t even been fully implemented due to willful USSS blindness,’ Leavitt said in a post on social media site X.

‘Fundamentally, the Secret Service likely needs to be restructured. Mission creep has added collateral missions like cyber investigations and other nonessential duties that distract from its #1 job: keeping current, former, and future leaders of the free world safe from harm.’

On Sunday the Washington Post reported messages between former USSS officers, with one asking ‘How the f*** did he get a gun that close’ and the other replying ‘resources’.

A source briefed on the security planning for the Butler Farm Trump rally told DailyMail.com that whereasUSSS would normally have three or four counter-sniper teams for such an event, they only had two, and were relying on local law enforcement due to staffing shortages.

In an interview with ABC News, USSS director Cheatle gave a baffling explanation for heragency’s failure to cover the building the would-be assassin climbed. ‘That building in particular has a sloped roof at its highest point.And so, you know, there's a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn't want to put somebody up on a sloped roof,’ she said. ‘And so, you know, the decision was made to secure the building, from inside.’

Other reporting suggests there may have been afailure in communication between local police and the Service.

Local station WPXI reported that gunman ThomasCrooks, 20, was spotted and photographed by snipers 30 minutes before he fired, according to law enforcement sources, and that theysent the picturesto Beaver County Emergency Services Unit control center.It is unclear whether the center passed that information to USSS agents at the site.

Videos shared on social media show attendees at the rally spotting Crooks and calling out for help from police over a minute before the shooting.

On Sunday President Joe Biden said he asked USSS to review ‘all security measures’ for last week's Republican National Convention in Milwaukee and to conduct an ‘independent review’ of the security at Trump's fatal rally.

Got a weird lead on a story that people should look into. I got a call from a source close to Las Vegas Metro. The official story was that Joe Biden's trip was cut short last week due to COVID. However, according to this source, US Secret Service informed LV Metro that there was an emergency situation involving Joe Biden and to close necessary streets so that POTUS could be transported immediately to University Medical, which they began to do in earnest. Then, mysteriously, there was a stand down order and the USSS informed local Vegas PD that they were going to "medivac" POTUS to Johns Hopkins, which they presumed meant fly him back east ASAP. Apparently the rumor mill in the police department was that Joe Biden was dying or possibly already dead.

I didn't think too much about this lead, seemed too wild to be true, but given that Joe Biden has been out of public sight for days and dropped out of the race via an 𝕏 post, and his brother James indicated health was a factor, I'm beginning to grow more curious if COVID or something else has been more serious than reported.
