As much as last night was an indictment of the Democratic Party for misleading party members and the country about the mental acuity and health of the president,the media deserve far more derision and scorn.

I and others were repeatedly criticized by the media for questioning the competency of the president. Among other false accusations, I was accused of spreading misleading videos which clearly showed Biden’s deterioration.

Do you remember the heavily excerpted and edited @POTUS Biden @60Minutes interview where the interviewer covered for the president by saying he was ‘very tired?’

@60Minutes knew.

The @nytimes knew.

@CNN knew.

@MSNBC knew.

Left wing media have had total and complete access to the president, his staff, and his administration. They all knew, but they told you otherwise. They outright lied to you.

When Robert Hur, the special counsel who deposed the president, said that the president was not fit to stand trial and therefore chose not to bring charges, the media described him as a tool of the Republican Party and character assassinated him.

When the @WSJ recently published a several-thousand-word, carefully researched, front page piece on the president’s mental and physical health, it was described by left wing media as outright propaganda.

Now consider who has been feeding you propaganda. A favored technique of some of the most evil leaders in history was to mislead the people by constantly repeating the Big Lie.

The Big Lie is so audacious that people accept it as truth because it is repeated so often that how can it be that something so important and material could be an outright falsehood?

In this case the Big Lie was our president’s fitness for office, let alone a second term. A media organization is not supposed to be a branch of the Democratic Party.

The media have a profound obligation to tell the truth to the American people, particularly about something as critical for the country as the president’s mental and physical health.

People very close to me, my closest family and friends, trusted the media on Biden until the @CNN commentators finally owned up to the truth about Biden last night. For months I have been accused by many friends and family of being misled by an @X -based ‘right wing echo chamber.’

The sad reality is that one of our most important institutions, the so-called ‘Fourth Estate,’ fourth only after the clergy, the nobility, and the commoners, has destroyed any remaining credibility it has.

Consider how your perception of @POTUS Biden and @realDonaldTrump has been manipulated. The media can no longer save itself.

A suggestion. Rely on empirical data as much as possible. Listen to what someone actually said, rather than a headline summary or article about what someone said. Get your news from people who have a track record of telling the truth, people who do so at significant personal cost like whistleblowers.

I follow broad constituencies on @X on multiple issues. That has led me closer to the truth.Citizen journalism has been a much more accurate representation of reality.

TAIPEI, Taiwan - Taiwan has urged its citizens to avoid travel to China and the semi-autonomous Chinese territories of Hong Kong and Macao following threats from Beijing to execute supporters of the self-governing island democracy’s independence.

Spokesperson and deputy head of the Mainland Affairs Council Liang Wen-chieh issued the advisory at a news conference Thursday.

That came amid growing threats from China, which claims Taiwan as its own territory to be annexed by force if necessary.

China’s threat to hunt down and execute “hardcore” Taiwan independence supporters follows the election of Lai Ching-te of the pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party as president. China has refused all contact with Taiwan’s government since the election in 2016 of former president Tsai Ing-wen of the DPP, who refused to endorse Beijing's demand that Taiwan recognizes itself as a part of China, seen as a prelude to political unification between the sides.

“In response to the new guidelines related to the so-called ‘secession crime,’ the government has the responsibility to remind citizens that there are genuine risks involved" in such visits, Liang said. The government is not banning visits, but those that do travel should not express political opinions or carry books or post online about topics that the authoritarian Communist Party would use to detain and potentially prosecute them.

Hundreds of thousands of Taiwanese live in China or travel their for business, tourism or family visits each year. China has also hosted visits by local Taiwanese officials and leaders of the opposition Nationalist Party, which backs eventual unification between the sides.

The sides operate direct flights and mainland Chinese are permitted to visit, although Beijing has severely restricted tourism to the island as a means of bringing economic pressure on the government in addition to its threatening military exercises and the daily deployment of warships and military planes around the island.

House Speaker Mike Johnson called on President Joe Biden’s cabinet on Friday to invoke the 25th Amendment to the Constitution and remove the commander in chief from office given his troubling debate performance the night before.

Asked about Texas GOP Rep. Chip Roy’s plans to offer a House resolution calling upon Vice President Kamala Harris to take the lead in removing Biden, Johnson told reporters on Capitol Hill, “There’s a lot of people asking about the 25th Amendment, invoking the 25th Amendment right now because this is an alarming situation.”

“Our adversaries see the weakness in this White House as we all do. I take no pleasure in saying that. I think this is a very dangerous situation,” added the speaker, who is second in the line succession to the presidency behind the vice president.

Section 4 of the 25th Amendment provides that when the vice president and a majority of the cabinet determine the president is no longer fit to serve, the vice president immediately assumes the power of acting president.

The president then has an opportunity to refute the assessment in writing to Congress, requiring the vice president and the majority of the cabinet to reaffirm their decision, which then triggers a two-thirds vote requirement in both chambers to remove the president.

“I would ask the Cabinet members to search their hearts,” Johnson said, pointing out that Democrats are “panicking” after Biden’s debate performance. “I would be panicking too if I were a Democrat today and that was my nominee. I think they know they have a serious problem.”

“But it’s not just political. It’s not just the Democratic Party. It’s the entire country. We have a serious problem here, because we have a president who, by all appearances, is not up to the task,” the speaker said.

“And these are very dangerous times. This is a very serious moment in American history. And it needs to be regarded and handled as such. And we hope that they will do their duty, as we all seek to do our duty to do best for the American people,” Johnson said. “These are fateful moments.”

During Thursday night’s debate against former President Donald Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, Biden lost his train of thought multiple times and made nonsensical statements at other moments.

One instance that received a lot of media coverage was when he gave a rambling, incoherent answer about healthcare ending with, “We finally beat Medicare.”

At another point in the debate, Biden falsely claimed that no American soldiers have died on his watch.

“I’m the only president this century, that doesn’t have any, this decade, that doesn’t have any troops dying anywhere in the world, like [Trump] did,” he said.

On Friday, Deputy Defense Department Press Secretary Sabrina Singh acknowledged Biden’s statement was wrong.

“We have certainly had service members pass during this administration,” she said.

Singh mentioned three American service members died in a drone strike in Jordan in January believed to have been carried out by an Iranian-backed militia based in Iraq, according to The Guardian.

Additionally, two Navy SEALs died that same month while trying to board a ship carrying Iranian weapons to Yemen, The Associated Press reported.

The most high profile incident of American casualties on Biden’s watch was the deaths of 13 American troops in a suicide bomb blast during the precipitous withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021.At a rally in Raleigh, North Carolina, Friday, Biden admitted he does not speak or debate as well as he used to.But, he argued, “I know how to do this job. I know how to get things done.”

Former President Barack Obama came to Biden’s defense on Friday posting on X, “Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know,” referring to his poor first debate performance against then-GOP nominee Mitt Romney during the 2012 presidential race.

The New York Times reported Biden campaign officials said the president has no intention of stepping aside so Democrats can nominate another candidate and he does plan to debate Trump again on Sept. 10.

The Biden administration has sent Israel "at least" 14,000 MK-84 2,000-pound bombs and 1,000 bunker-busters, according to a new report from Reuters.

From Reuters, "Exclusive: US has sent Israel thousands of 2,000-pound bombs since Oct. 7":

The Biden administration has sent to Israel large numbers of munitions, including more than 10,000 highly destructive 2,000-pound bombs and thousands of Hellfire missiles, since the start of the war in Gaza, said two U.S. officials briefed on an updated list of weapons shipments.

Between the war's start last October and recent days, the United States has transferred at least 14,000 of the MK-84 2,000-pound bombs, 6,500 500-pound bombs, 3,000 Hellfire precision-guided air-to-ground missiles, 1,000 bunker-buster bombs, 2,600 air-dropped small-diameter bombs, and other munitions, according to the officials, who were not authorized to speak publicly.

While the officials didn't give a timeline for the shipments, the totals suggest there has been no significant drop-off in U.S. military support for its ally, despite international calls to limit weapons supplies and a recent administration decision to pause a shipment of powerful bombs.

A New York Times investigation in December detailed how tons of these bombs were dropped on displaced civilians in densely populated "safe zones" in Gaza.

The Supreme Court just dealt a massive blow to the “administrative state” in a landmark ruling ending the nearly 40-year practice of so-called “Chevron deference.”

For those unfamiliar with the legal doctrine, “Chevron deference” refers to a principle outlined in Chevron, U.S.A. v. Natural Resources Defense Council in 1984. To understand the meaning and purpose of this principle, it is important to note that many times Congress passes laws that are ambiguous and vague, and therefore difficult for relevant regulatory agencies to implement in every respect. The Chevron ruling held that the courts would generally be deferential to administrative agencies’ interpretations of statutes relevant to their scope of action. For instance, the principle of Chevron deference means that courts would defer to the IRS’ interpretation of tax laws, the EPA’s interpretation of environmental laws, and so forth.

The rationale behind this principle is that the regulatory agencies have experts who are in the best position to fill in the gaps where a law passed by Congress is ambiguous or vague. From a constitutional point of view, however, many conservatives have noted that this poses some severe problems when it comes to the constitutional design of separation of powers. After all, Congress is supposed to make laws, and executive agencies are supposed to enforce them. With Chevron deference, however, it increasingly seemed as though regulatory agencies themselves were effectively making the laws they execute by virtue of their broad scope of interpretation, and indeed, at a certain point, interpreting law amounts to making law. Apart from the constitutional issue, many on the right were deeply troubled by the authority Chevron deference placed in the hands of unelected bureaucrats, often from agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency, that have stifled economic growth with arguably unnecessary regulation. In general, it is fair to say that the 40 years we have experienced under Chevron have contributed massively to the bloat of what some might call the “administrative state.”

Given its seeming technical nature, it is difficult to convey just how important this ruling is. The Chevron case, which was just overturned, was the single most cited case in all of administrative law. One can think of the recent ruling as the equivalent of overturning Roe for the Administrative State.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the issue was decided across ideological lines in a 6-3 landmark ruling on joint cases Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo and Relentless, Inc. v. Department of Commerce.

While the ruling is undoubtedly a major step toward restoring separation of powers and cutting bureaucratic red tape, there remain possible countervailing factors to consider. For the most part, federal bureaucracies are hostile to the efforts of the right, but one wonders whether the courts having more authority than bureaucracies in some cases might work against the right’s interests, especially under a Trump presidency. For instance, can we be confident that immigration courts would be more sympathetic to sound border enforcement than immigration agencies under a Trump presidency? Perhaps, but this is far from clear.

Leaving these side considerations aside, this was a very bad day for power-hungry, unelected bureaucrats.
