I just got curious about where the self-ordering kiosks at my local McDonald’s come from, so I looked it up. Turns out they’re made in China.

The manufacturer is Acrelec China (Jiashan Acrelec Electronics Technology Co., Ltd.), founded in 2004. The company focuses on digital transformation, providing self-ordering kiosks, digital displays, and customer interaction solutions for global quick-service restaurants and retail. Its clients include McDonald’s, KFC, Walmart, and Burger King.

Do you know what this means?

Manufacturing and technical jobs that could exist in the U.S. or Europe are being outsourced overseas.

If we care about domestic manufacturing and local jobs, we should think about our choices as consumers.

Stop using McDonald’s until they adopt self-order kiosks manufactured in the United States and bring those jobs back home.
