Spoiler Alert: Its really the American People that the US Govt is afraid of.
Iran scares the crap out of "Western" ruling elites, especially in USA, for an interesting reason that they will occasionally sort of admit to.
First off, lets notice that no one in the West, particularly the Chickenhawks on Fox and in White House (and admin) and Congress can give a reason for USA's concern with Iran that doesn't completely deflate under mild questioning. Its just one of those things we are expected to believe in, like "diversity is our strength" and "no intelligence or mental differences between races" and "women are just as good at any job as men", etc.
So WTF could it be about Iran that now scares our govt so much? Lets pretend they really are some "State sponsor of terror"? If so they must not be very good at it, since we've been saying that for nearly 1/2 century and nothing has happened.
Meanwhile, since 1980 all manner of "terror" has plagued the entire USA for reals and no one seems too concerned, at least on anyone in US Govt. "Foxes" is pretty much what LA used to be like. Mexicans existed but they stayed in their part of town the "ethnic" kid at school would be an Nth gen US born Italian-American. LA culture was considered "flaky", largely from Hollywood culture, and "new age" stuff like health food and yoga. Now every every school, even grammar schools, are full of Cartel sleeper cells, if not active members, and our POTUS just explicitly endorsed their presence in US society. BTW, all aspects of Private Security are booming, while the rest of the economy is crumbling largely due to influx of foreign terrorists.
But the reason US Govt is so obsessed with Iran is pretty obvious once you look at basic recent history of Iran, and…..wait for it…..American economics, society, culture, etc and how its "evolved". In 1978 Iran under the Shah was considered "an island of stability" etc with world's top secret police completely in charge of everything, and with full access to US weapons, etc. Then one day, one old holy man, with no money, no real organization or manpower, none of the well funded Communist and media backing like say MLKjr, just a robe, beard, sandals and cane, says the regime is corrupt and blasphemous, and "just needs to go", because its beyond reforming.

Two weeks later the former "most firmly in charge" regime with all its vast army, secret police, regular police, was gone with no fighting worth mentioning. Only real "violence" was some of the Shah's goons firing into a crowd, which seemed to be more just bazaar overreaction, similar to ICE in MN, due to them never seeing or even imagining such crowds before, and unable to comprehend WTF was going on.
To this day, no one, especially our CIA and related "Middle East experts", knows what happened. The only thing we know for sure is when they try to pretend they know they only embarrass themselves, and they know it, so they like to change the subject ASAP. We know from Egyptian artifacts and their well recorded history that the story of Moses and Exodus are fiction, or at least fictionally transposed onto Egypt, but many Iran chickenhawks see Khomeini as like Moses but for real, backed by a real God, not false gods, and able to wield powers they couldn't possible imagine, and they could "imagine" a lot. Star Wars had come out just a couple years before. LMAO!
US Govt is deathly afraid that some Christian leader might emerge among the Bible Beaters, the way the Khomeini did for Iranians, and Americans would start to "snap out of it" and reject their corrupt and immoral regime and start acting morally and collectively. Probably just like with Iran, starting with General Strikes by people that actually matter, middle-class Whites, who might be soon joined by Christian Negro and even Mexican groups.
This is also why there was a rise in fake TV preachers, and why formerly "Israel critical" major established churches such as Presbyterian and Episcopal got bought out and subverted after 1980.
