Singer seems like a philosopher that thrives on trying to seem edgy. Take the first picture, the baby is not born self-aware but it has the potential of becoming self-aware as it will grow into a self-aware human given enough time; I don't see a pig becoming anything more than a pig over time. Also, then shall we ask what's more important, a child's life or the life of a piglet?

It's been a while since I read a paper from him, but doesn't Singer actually make that exact point about babies having the potential of of growing self-aware whereas a piglet does not; so that the baby has a higher inherent moral value than the piglet?

I'll happily admit that he's edgy as fuck at times, but I think the primary point he's trying to make is that animals should be treated with significantly more respect than we currently bring up for the average lab animal that is injected with all sorts of carcinogens or what not so we can have nicer lipstick, or because a local pharma company wants to "develop" an already existing product in order to get around paying royalties to the original inventor.

Hasn't Habermas invented discourse-ethics? To me, it sounds like he did highschool-tier epistemics and called it moral philosophy. What a faggot.

when it's demonstrated that a pig has developed enough consciousness to care how I'm treated, I might care how it's treated.

The only animals I'd feel bad about killing would be dogs and maybe bonobos. Dolphins are clearly faking consciousness for the fish.
