There's a place in Quebec that imports yurts from Mongolia. Seems like really cheap and good housing if you don't mind not necessarily having utilities. The one on the right here only costs like $6,000.

It's a pretty good deal imo considering they're fully functional as permanent housing. They also come with insulation and a needlessly fancy door which probably drives the price up a lot.

Bruh you are nuts to pay 6K for that. The first thing you do is go to pacific yerts, download their platform / foundation plans and cost out that install, once you've looked at their layout ideas and gotten an idea of the size of yurt you'd want to build. Then, go to a sawmill or use a table saw to cut down boards to the appropriate size for the walls.

Then just source poles and either buy or make the top ring, and use old billboards for the covering.

This thing is on the order of 100-1000 for a yurt, not 6k. And you can find used ones on CL for 2k all day, foundation included sometimes. The UV damage, insect damage (on ones I've seen) and inherent non-resilience to snow loads means you can't set it up unless you live in the thing full-time, because one good snow dump could cave it in. They're good for a temporary shelter, but I'd not live in one for 5 years. Use on site while building more robust structure.

ooking to add fulfillment to your dull dull life?

Then head on over to this place

https://honeypot.gg/ThRktY

and help us create the next best thing.

Background: began like most of the other ventures on /k/ and /pol/. Thread was started, looking for other people who want to get away from (((society))) and form a community in the woods of Alaska. So far we have 4-5 dedicated members and are looking for a total of about 10.

We are generally looking to move onto the property in early 2020, but 2019 might be possible if we get the ball rolling and you want to live in a tent with no supplies

The honeypot will explain more. Please bring questions, expertise, or suggestions. We know the difficulty involved and are trying to learn from the past.

Only requirements are that you are a white male (world wide European/euro diaspora), want out of society, and can dedicate labor and funding to the venture when we get to that point

P.S: If you have a suggestion for more secure communications, we are all ears

Why the fuck do the zippers on my jacket catch on the material of the pockets? It's a fucking Columbia jacket, "goretex", and they could not BOTHER to TAPE UP THE MATERIAL AROUND THE ZIPPERS on the inside of the pockets to prevent binding??!!

Also, I have an Oakley backpack for computer equipment. Now after a few months, the double zippers separate on one side so I have to zip them to one side to prevent my gear from flying out. And there are no fucking straps to clip the compartments shut, all the pressure is resting on the zippers!!

Also, why the fuck would they use "aesthetically pleasing" underdimensioned zippers when they should have used big fucking japanese YKK zippers??!!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!

Unfortunately, established companies have now realized that they can cannibalize their brand value by pushing cheap crap on the market. Just because you paid a premium for it doesn't mean it wasn't thrown together haphazardly by a half-blind Bengali amputee for $0.02/hour.

currently planning to do some backpacking and camping, 2-3 week trips at a time ideally. would be moderate winters (flagstaff, AZ). was looking at a few 50L packs, but i have no idea which brands are actually quality for a good price and which are chink-tier. any suggestions?

i saw a bunch of folks recommending shit like the Kelty Redwing 50 or similar shit from that brand, but it's a bit pricey and due to my limited experience with good packs i've got no idea how many of the reviews were legit and how many were just shills.

>>1463

if you're lifting then you shouldn't have a fucking backpack on at all. that's asking to get caught. either rig a catchall inside your pants to drop shit into, or just stuff it between your pant's beltline and your body so it doesn't fall down.

~3 week trips without being able to restock on food, you're probably gonna want something larger than 50l, considering winter clothes/sleeping bag/tent/water are gonna take up like 3/5th that pack easy. i'd just cruise ebay for a 70l frame pack and worry less, it'll be worth the comfort than these ultralight weenie packs with random shit strapped all over.

i got this pack for the AT where i can restock every other week, asides from having to reinforce some points with stitches it's been nice, i like the low key look that doesn't make me stick out too much in town. it's about 45L, no frame but i just use my cardboard sleeping mat to reinforce the back. clothes + 40* sleeping bag + tarp take up about half the pack. i also keep a drawstring knapsack i can tie on top of it or hang off my chest, in case i need to carry more food/water. pretty comfy overall, just keep a sewing kit handy cuz it is a no name bag.

Mine was 11 weeks in the high desert. I used primitive fire-making techniques (bow drill: sage spindles, juniper root board + hand drill: yucca spindle, sage board). I slept under a tarp, and spent most of my time woodcarving. I brought food and water in via truck. It was very comfy.

We did some hikes around the desert and up the surrounding peaks, but obviously couldn't pack all of our food and water around so hiking was limited.

Pic related is from google but is more or less what the terrain looked liked.

Lol can you believe there are laws against this in some places? People are so Jewish about water scarcity now that the state will snatch your water rights if you’re “wasting” them on things like waterholes for wildlife instead of drinking wells for cattle.
