Personally I use a NI 38l patrol pack
although I really have to cram in the main pouch when I put in my bivi and sleeping bag. I just ordered a compression sack so that should give me some more space if my stuff fits. and I bought a slightly smaller basha to save a bit more room. then I have my tarp, cam net and shovel (just bought an external pouch for the shovel) then in the pouch zip compartments I have medical shit, carabiners, ziplocks and usually food and sanitation shit as well as some electricals in a dry bag. My side pouches usual have my knife, paracord, poncho, hat, gardening gloves, hexi cooker, canteen and whatever other shit I can't remember.

That setup helped me hobo through europe for 6 months, your mileage might vary.

I fail to see how a messenger bag is smaller than a 20lt backpack but then again you carry 3 sausages who am i to disappoint you - do you normally carry one? doesn't the unbalanced weight on one side feel uncomfortable after some months?

I disagree. If you're a homeless vagabond like I am, you're doing to need a bit more space if you decide to live off of your backpack.

I know you're teasing for the most part, but pack sizes are subjective for every outdoorsman.

I got a Rush 10 and a Rush 72 meme packs from 5.11 which can be combined into one big 60-65+ liter pack and a First Tactical 0.5 day pack at 25 liters so I guess that makes me a tranny in addition to a tactitard. Sort of agree though that minimalistic approach is better except perhaps in the winter.

currently planning to do some backpacking and camping, 2-3 week trips at a time ideally. would be moderate winters (flagstaff, AZ). was looking at a few 50L packs, but i have no idea which brands are actually quality for a good price and which are chink-tier. any suggestions?

i saw a bunch of folks recommending shit like the Kelty Redwing 50 or similar shit from that brand, but it's a bit pricey and due to my limited experience with good packs i've got no idea how many of the reviews were legit and how many were just shills.

>>1463

if you're lifting then you shouldn't have a fucking backpack on at all. that's asking to get caught. either rig a catchall inside your pants to drop shit into, or just stuff it between your pant's beltline and your body so it doesn't fall down.

~3 week trips without being able to restock on food, you're probably gonna want something larger than 50l, considering winter clothes/sleeping bag/tent/water are gonna take up like 3/5th that pack easy. i'd just cruise ebay for a 70l frame pack and worry less, it'll be worth the comfort than these ultralight weenie packs with random shit strapped all over.

i got this pack for the AT where i can restock every other week, asides from having to reinforce some points with stitches it's been nice, i like the low key look that doesn't make me stick out too much in town. it's about 45L, no frame but i just use my cardboard sleeping mat to reinforce the back. clothes + 40* sleeping bag + tarp take up about half the pack. i also keep a drawstring knapsack i can tie on top of it or hang off my chest, in case i need to carry more food/water. pretty comfy overall, just keep a sewing kit handy cuz it is a no name bag.
