depends on where you go

northern africa has ryanair and other budget airlines shoveling in the tourist masses

Morocco & Egypt are pretty easy to travel to

everything further south is where it gets interesting

you can do a sahara expedition, but it's gonna be pretty boring unless you specifically enjoy deserts

west africa is kinda a wild card

Senegal or Ghana are fine, so is Lagos

but don't even try to go there if you don't speak french

also the nice parts, that are not extremly densly populated or monocrop agriculture are full of islamists that will literally behead you

might need to keep that in mind kek

eastern africa is probably the second easiest to travel to in sub sahara africa

but interesting places are mostly the national parks (like mara / serengeti or going for Gorillas)

if you want to walk around the country and not be babysitted by a guide, go to Rwanda!

only one that's reasonably safe - also beautiful

southern africa, well Namibia Botswana (and to some degree Zambia and Simbabwe) are the safest and easiest countrie in sub sahara africa

personally I was bored in Namibia

but Botswana was really nice, drove around myself, up from Johannesburg

for SA itself, i think there's still a thread up… it's somewhat dangerous atm

now the really intersting part is Central Africa

probably also the only place where you can find tribes like your pic rel

my Congo Basin tour is still my No. 1 vacation I ever did

the other Congo is the easy mode, but also boring

you're looking at $500 minimum in bribes if you are from a western nation, just to get your visa approved, and that's if you do everything yourself

a fee for a 'fixer' to do it for you will run you another $200-300

the bribes/schemes just to get into the country are just the beginning of the hellish interaction with the """government""" of Nigeria and locals who will work desperately to extract every last cent possible out of you

hotels will do shit like cancel your booking when you check in, then upcharge you 2x because you are white, or offer the same rate as before as long as you slip the front desk staff some cash

its so comically shitty that I thought I was on a prank show, everywhere I turned somebody was aggressively trying to fuck me over, and I don't mean typical thirdie schemes and scamming, I mean actually impeding me unless I paid them off

only place in the world I experienced a street person THROWING achild at me, then causing a hysteria screaming scene when I didn't catch them, and blaming me for 'injuring' the already sick and injured kid they literaly(actually) hurled through the air at me, and then the taxi I rushed to in order to escape the crowd charged me 4x normal price to leave! LOL!

this is apparently a semi-common scheme from drug/glue addict begging gangs, and I was advised by my companion I was traveling with to next time just give them some money or they might stab me and take everything instead LOL

lagos was insane, more of a hive than a city, since 'city' implies deliberate infrastructure and planning, and lagos doesn't have either of those things
