There were a few, tbh. When I was younger, about middle school age, there were several characters I felt attracted to and would often imagine relationships with. I think in retrospect it kinda forshadowed I was wired for this kind of thing, but I obviously wasn't conscious I was experiencing anything beyond a crush.

Sailor Mercury and Arturia were two big ones, tbh. While they have some very tangential similarities to Ruby (short, short hair, heroines) they do have pretty different personalities–Ami was a more eggheaded and straight-laced character while Arturia was a lot more stoic and withdrawn. I feel like Ruby's more casual and cheery personality was a lot more helpful to me, she's really helped me unwind more as a person. I think it's kind of providence that I discovered firmly what waifuism was when I was falling in love with her, and not before then.

Ah, strangely I never really had a crush on Arturia, despite the fact Mordred is literally a clone of her. I think I just didn't really like her personality that much, might also be something to do with the fact that I was exposed to her via the VN.

My waifu is Flandre Scarlet.

I had a lot of crushes over fictional characters in my life, and from a very young age. The first I can remember was Abigail from Once Upon a Forest. I was only 4 years old at the time. I remember making a drawing of her and me together with a big heart symbol.

Here are my other crushes I can remember. I tried to write them in chronological order.

Ariel, from The Little Mermaid.

Shana, from The Legend of Dragoon.

Rebecca Chambers, from the Resident Evil series.

Kikyo, from Inuyasha. (I also had a crush on Kagome and Sango from the same series, but it was definitely not as strong as my crush for Kikyo)

Aeris (or Aerith) Gainsborough, from Final Fantasy VII. She is probably my biggest crush of all (if you don’t consider Flandre, of course). I was so damn much into her and even bought a figure of her. I’m playing Final Fantasy VII Remake now and even still feel a little something for her, but it’s almost nothing as compared to what I felt for her in the past.

Marie Rose, from the Dead or Alive series. Marie Rose is a special case as I developed a crush on her WHILE being in a relationship with Flandre. At some point, I had to make the voluntary decision of stopping my fantasies with her as I did not want them to develop into something too significant. I don’t recall having a significant crush on another character since then.

The one obvious similarity I see between these crushes and Flandre is that most of them are quite young. I’m strongly attracted to lolis and juvenile-looking characters.

Among these 13 characters:

5 are little girls (Abigail, Tima, Wendy, Diana, and Sakura)

3 are adolescent girls (Ariel, Miku, and Willbell…although Willbell looks and acts WAY more like a 10 yo than a 14 yo…)

4 are 18 yo girls (Shana, Rebecca, Kikyo, and Marie Rose…still Rebecca and Marie Rose look younger. Marie Rose’s mannerism and body could even remind those of a 12 years old girl).

And finally Aeris, who is 22, the one exception in the list.

In terms of personality I don’t really see a pattern…

Physically speaking, I would say Wendy is the one that looks like Flandre the most as both are blond little girls.

In terms of personality… that’s hard to say as Flandre’s canon personality has not been that much elaborated…Maybe a mix of Willbell’s eccentricity and Diana’s boldness?

The only three I really felt attached to were Lyn from Fire Emblem, Rakka from Haibane Renmei, and Chise from Saikano. I liked May and Misty from Pokemon like most people my generation but not quite to the same level.

All three of them (and Arturia) share a tragedy as one of their core defining traits, so I definitely had a type, even back then; I've always felt this sort of reflexive need to help those in pain.

Personality-wise I would say Lyn was the closest to Arturia, especially her duty-bound nature and the way she dealt with her personal circumstances and overcame them to help those close to her. I used to daydream about going horseback riding across the plains together but it never really progressed to the 'love' stage. Design-wise I can pinpoint her as the moment I started liking girls with swords.

The other two were quite a bit different from Arturia so I can't draw too many comparisons there, aside from their backgrounds. I still like Rakka quite a lot as a character since she exemplifies a lot of the qualities I'd like to have in myself but it's just platonic admiration.

There've been other characters I've liked since meeting Arturia but after meeting her they all lack that 'vividness' for lack of a better term and so in contrast with her I struggle to picture them as anything other than simply characters.

My first 2D crush that I can remember (it's possible there was some when I was a kid) was Zange from Kannagi. She kind of has a similar haircut to Kanuka but other than that they're very different. Zange is very manipulative and also playful, and is generally not really a good person.

Sometime after this I developed a much stronger crush on Sakuya from Touhou. My feelings for her were almost waifu level, but they eventually faded.

It wasn't serious at all (more like a best girl kind of thing), but back in 2018 I really loved Nadeshiko Kagamihara from Yurucamp.

Like Kisaragi, she is kind of airheaded at times, but also more genki than anything.

Also she eats a lot, and I also often eat a lot.

Honestly, I'm outright surprised at the fact that I didn't really crush that much compared to others.
