Yeah that's kind of my thoughts on this. Yes the show looks bad and criticizing it on that merit makes sense, but saying that them somehow funding their own projects is inherently bad is dumb.

Yesterday I had friends at home for a board games day. I’ve been friends with all of these guys for more than a decade so I’m ok with them seeing my daki and therefore I don’t try to hide it from them when they come (I leave it on my bed and leave my bedroom’s door open). Still, it was the first time that one of these friends saw it. So while we were playing in the living room, this friend said he needed to go to the bathroom and so he went. But when he came back, he was holding my daki in his arms with a big smile on his face.

What he didn’t know is that if there is one thing I don’t like, it is people to touch my daki. It’s absurd but I don’t quite remember what really happened after that point, just like I fucking dissociated for a moment. I don’t even remember what I said and don’t even remember if I got up. All I know is that he went back to put my daki on my bed. Latter, two of my other friends who were there told me how my face suddenly changed when I saw him with my daki and how one could read on it how pissed I was. Still, I didn’t yell or anything like that.

I know my friend is a really good guy and he didn’t mean to do anything bad as for him, he was just being funny. I think he just didn't know how autistic I can be.

That same night, I dreamed twice of my daki: The first time, my daki became like some sort of doll that could stand (and walk?) on its own. The second time, my daki had what looked like salt stains on it.

Lilybro is actually joking around by referring to a quote attributed to Sigmund Freud, which goes Sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar, which is basically a reminder that one should be careful to not promptly over-interpret everything as meaningful hidden symbolism (especially in dreams).

Well, previous post said only fags with psych majors will mind that you don't know how to quote Freud. I happened to know that quote, and it so happened I'm taking a business major instead.

And it just so happened that the quote they're talking about is a widespread quote already that should be basic anyway, even if you aren't a psych major, that's why there was some minding or doubt why a snowclone variation of the quote was not familiar to someone.

I've explained my case of why statement makes logical fucking sense. Now, the burden of proof is on you to explain why it doesn't.

 No.68569

>>68568

However that's not what I outlined now was it? You asked "I know the quote, does that make me a faggoty psych major?" Which is not what I said at all. Never did I say that if you know the quote you're a psych faggot. So while your first statement here, THIS post, makes sense and is sort of what I meant that is NOT what I was responding to. Here's the line of what was said.

<No one's going to fault you for not knowing a Freud quote unless you're one of those gay psychology majors

>I know the quote, does that make me a faggoty psych major?

<This logic makes no fucking sense.

So here you're asked me if knowing the quote makes you a psych faggot. I don't know the answer until now but it isn't what I said. I said the only people who would get butthurt are faggot psych majors. Obviously you didn't get butthurt, you didn't "fault" him using my own words. So why the self deprecating question?

So then you say

>previous post said only fags with psych majors will mind that you don't know how to quote Freud

And that's close enough to what I meant, (what I really meant was not knowing the quote not the inability to quote Freud), so why the change from "knowing the quote" to "minding NOT knowing how to quote Freud"? Because you didn't explain your case, unless that was your case and you misread the very first post and got offended or some shit and then asked that question, which is forgivable. Then it makes perfect sense, you misread and left out the very important NOT part of the quote.

Before you ask there's a difference between recognizing a quote and knowing how to quote someone. Recognizing a quote is knowing that "Life was like a box of chocolates" is a quote from Forrest Gump and knowing how to quote Forrest Gump is quoting things like "I gotta pee" or "LT Dan you got new legs" (I'm referring to the character not the movie but it'd apply to the movie as well) Forrest Gump being an example to illustrate the point. It's not too much of a difference but one shows more familiarity towards the person or you're quoting. Also that's just how my brain works, I don't know if it's an actual academic thing, if you want to treat it as the same it doesn't change what I said earlier.

I dunno who are you exactly, so I dunno if you're defending your statements or someone's else's statements. But your long explanation isn't really needed. My point here is everyone should know that Freud quote already.

Not because everyone's a gay psych major (as if you need to be fucking gay, a psych, or even a kike to know anything about Freud or what he said), but because the quote "Sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar" is already a cliche, a chestnut, a maxim, so old that it spawned snowclones long ago, and cliches tend to spawn snowclones anyway. 'S'all.

The reason why I suspected a bait is that less than 15 minutes after I explained Lilybro’s joke to Anon, Takanebro made his statement about ‘’those gay psychology majors’’ who would fault people for not knowing a Freud quote. Considering that I’ve already stated on this board that I’m a postgraduate student in psychology, I felt that this post was maybe intended to bait me. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t.

Nevertheless, maybe Takanebro could tell me more about my gayness as a psychology student?

Are you referring to your argument with Marisabro? This whole argument (that came afterward) had nothing to do with what was the possible intent of your initial post.

With all due respect, but it is not "faggotry" or obnoxiousness, but rather pedantry or "autism", basically. If you're going to insult someone, especially when they're pedantic, you better choose the right word.

I remember I once told to a friend, as a stupid joke, that it would be funny if they would open a dakimakuras brothel where customers would pay money to have sex with one of a large collection of dakimakuras displaying different 2D girls and that the staff would carefully wash the daki afterward.

Well guess it was not that much of a crazy idea. I just learned that there are sex dolls brothels all around the world:

https://futureofsex.net/robots/map-of-sex-doll-brothels-around-the-world/

Of course feminists got triggered by that, claiming that such brothels encourage rape and bla bla bla…You know, the usual feminist stuff (pics related).

But back to the main subject. I wonder if, in all seriousness, a dakimakura brothel could be a lucrative enterprise. I imagine such establishment could promote their services not solely as sexual in nature, but also as tender (just like those places in Japan where you pay to cuddle with a cute young girl). You know, some place where you could cuddle with cute 2D girls and also get intimate with them if you want. Not saying it’s the kind of place serious waifuists would like to hang but there might be a lucrative market for that.

I wouldn't say it's impossible, 'cause there is no shortage of weird shit out there, but I'd suspect it wouldn't be.

These 'sex dolls' are quite expensive to own, and I'd imagine that's why such a place would have appeal. In comparison, dakis are so cheap that you could have a veritable harem of them for a fraction of the cost.

I wonder if anyone would be interested in a silly little story I have. Might make you laugh.

For a really long time now, much longer than I've known my waifu I've experienced a very creepy occurrence. I think the first time it happened was when I was 13, I looked up at the clock and it was 11:11. Ever since I've been seeing the number almost every time I check the time, both at AM and PM. Is it time for lunch yet? Oh look it's that time again. It's getting pretty late wonder what time- oh of course it's that time again. I see the number sometimes up to 6 times in a week. It felt really sinister, every time I saw the number I thought that's the time I'm doomed to die or something. I thought it was a trick of the brain at first but it happened way too much for so many years.

Happened to me just today too. I had a really delusional thought. What if it wasn't sinister, what if I was being watched by her? Rika, or Bernkastel. 11 : 11 on a digital clock looks like cat eyes. I don't think I'm prone to delusions but this one I'm willing to fall into.

I've met some people with the 11 thing, myself included, so i guess is quite "normal" to see that number frequently at some point of your life. Odd cause there's not really an explanation for this, it just happens.

It may mean something if you want, so keep up with that delusion i wouldn't call it like that tho This is an insane world anyways.

I'm not superstitious… but still, of all the numbers for it to be… kinda creepy.

I'm inclined to believe that it's just my subconscious following a biological clock that I'm not aware of, that prompts me to check the time consistently at 4:44, though.

I remember that I too had been amused, at some point in my life, every time I would notice it was 11:11. It feels like getting quads on an image board. And If I was looking on my digital watch that showed seconds and saw we were just a few seconds away from 11:11:11, I would stare at the watch waiting for that moment to happen. There is an autistic part of me that thinks it would be even funnier on the 11th of November.

Seriously, I believe that the more you care and pay attention to this 11:11 detail, the more likely you are to:

1-Notice and remember every time you see it’s 11:11 (and therefore tend to believe that you see this time more often than, let’s say, 10:37, although you might end up seeing both times just as often).

2-In a probably mostly unconscious manner, tend to look more often at your clock when it’s near 11:11.

But these numbers, I don't really believe they have meaning I just think they're fun.

Hey everyone. Haven't posted here in years, but I'm trying to find two things from a few years back. The first was when we all sang "Take on Me" and someone layered the tracks. Last I remember it was uploaded on YouTube, but I can't seem to find it. The second is a group Christmas picture with all our waifus in it. I think there was a Jojo character in the center with christmas lights shooped on them. This was back when 8ch was having server issues or something and the guy in love with Konata had a little refugee board for all of us. Thanks for any help.

There is a question that has been bothering me for a very long time.

The rules of /mai/ state that original characters are not allowed. So what does "original character" means exactly?

I guess, we all more or less headcanon about our waifus. Even major stuff sometimes. E.g. if your waifu originally called only by her rank or species. Will you think up a name because the combat android exterminator does not sound very conveniently? Where is the limit?

Every character is a (hopefully) original character. The rule is only against characters you made yourself.

>So what does "original character" means exactly?

Original character in the context of the internet means a character you have created yourself. Characters created by other people aren't your own original creations.

>I guess, we all more or less headcanon about our waifus.

Certainly. Look at daughterus for instance. Some people even create their own OC daughterus which is considered acceptable in many waifu communities.

>Where is the limit?

Trying to determine acceptable and unacceptable headcanon is extremely subjective. Usually there's a problem when a person shows a blatant lack of understanding or appreciation for the things that make up the character, concept, and personality of their waifu.

The limit is usually changing her overall personality. If small pieces of information are missing it might be ok to fill in some spaces with your imagination, though those shouldn't be taken as facts. A character would be considered OC if major parts of her personality were made up by you.

Also changing existing facts about her you don't like is a big no no.

Off the top of my head…

An OC waifu is likely to be created to fulfill the role of being a waifu. A person who creates an OC for this is making the same mistake as a person who thinks they can choose a waifu because they want one (they are trying to force their feelings). The result is often a crude character because the creator is inexperienced at character design and that the character was created to fulfill their creator's desires.

When a waifu's character is discussed, it is easy to refer to the source material where the waifu came from to see what a person is talking about. A person can share what they find attractive or endearing about their waifu or what they find challenging to cope with. There are certain things that remain a mystery about a waifu's character because their creator never specified them.

It is unlikely that an OC was created to entertain an audience so there is little or no context to share anything. If a person discusses what they find appealing about their OC, it comes across as a person admiring their own artwork or fishing for compliments. What if there's something they find negative about their OC or if something terrible had happened to that character? Well people are going to look at that as either self inflicted or a person with no respect for their loved one.

I don't think you could call an OC a waifu. They aren't exactly the same thing. But if a person has sincere feelings and respect for their OC then I don't think it's wrong personally. It's just very unlikely to be the case.

An OC isn‘t a waifu, because it is essentially self-love. The creator and the lover are the same which means the character was specifically made to appeal to them. Love necessitates that the object of love is something other than the one in love. Sincerely loving your own creation just isn‘t a thing.

One point which I find problematic, for lack of a better term, about Pygmalion who is generally heralded as „the first waifuist“.

Different anon with a related question. How do 'template' characters for lack of better word fit into this ? Years ago it seemed to be Vocaloids and now it is MGE. They have designs but nearly no characterisation and personality beyond what waifuists make up for them. Just about everything except the art is OC . Why are 95% OC allowed and encouraged while 100% OC characters are banned?

That seems a little far-fetched. A piece of art perhaps superficially reflects an aspect of the artist; but to get to the point where they are in essence the same? Where the creator is somehow unable to recognize them-self and also finds them-self the object of their own desire?

>>69133

Practically, it is easier to draw a line on something simple like creating entirely your own character. Otherwise you then get into the business of defining acceptable levels of detail for a character.

Personally I would not appreciate a person telling me I cannot possibly be in love because she isn't real enough for them. So I like to give others the same courtesy and hope that they have the same depth of feelings until they demonstrate otherwise. However, there are many who do take the view that 'template' characters and OC are alike.

You misunderstand, maybe it‘s poor choice of words on my part. Obviously I don‘t mean the OC and the creator are the same, but the creator and the one who „falls in love“ are the same which is what I take issue with.

>>69133

From what I understand some Vocaloid waifuists go off of fanon which seems alright to me, I‘m not really one to question how that works. You‘d have to ask them yourself though. I think most are reasonable and everyone is their own case in how they view their relationship and partner. You can‘t simply make a blanket statement about a certain group of waifuists.

I‘ve seen some that make up something completely their own though. To me, that is nothing other than an OC just because you take a pre-existing design and slap what you like on it.

Well let me clarify what I mean by „other“. It is necessary that the person in love is not in control of the „other“. In the case of an OC the creator is in total control of every aspect of that OC, though they are definitely different entities. It‘s just a proxy made to fit the creator‘s own desires. Would the OC gain consciousness and act on its own, then it‘s a different story.

See, it takes two to tango. Loving an OC is the equivalent of playing chess with yourself.

Yes, hello… is this the Inquisition Chamber?

Jokes aside, I can vouch for what was said here:

>>69148

>Personally I would not appreciate a person telling me I cannot possibly be in love because she isn't real enough for them.

Forgive me if I sound a little defensive.

I don't want to write an essay justifying my love or anything 'cause of a few anons and purists not getting it, so I'll try to limit myself.

I'll admit that in certain circumstances, Vocaloid can skirt the lines of OC… like people just deciding to arbitrarily assign personality to them. In most cases, though, it's an extreme form of 'fanon is canon', and can slip through the loophole of the fanon(songs, doujin etc) not being your OC. The majority of the things that shaped my interpretation of her(voice, appearance, songs etc) are out of my control.

As for filling in the blanks, things not covered by the above, everyone has to do this to a certain extent. Resorting to that as an argument feels like splitting hairs to me.

In the end, all I can say is that no one else makes me feel quite the same way. She's helped me through the best and worst of times, gives me a reason to stay strong, to try to be someone that she'd be proud of.

I love her, despite the difficulties that it sometimes presents… and trying to fully understand why is beyond me. The feeling itself is more like an irrational instinct, but isn't that love's very essence?

>>69147

>They are literally software like audacity or iCal I don't know why it's so accepted either.

Well, that's the problem: you're looking at it literally. It's like saying that manga and newspapers are the same, 'cause they're just ink on paper. It's not what something is or what it's made of that's important, but what purpose/function it fulfills. A singing synthesizer, probably through anthropomorphic trickery, has much more inherent 'personality' than an editor or calendar, if you ask me.

You're also disregarding that Vocaloid is more than just the software, to many. It's the voicebank, the character, and the body of created works.

As a final thought, consider the irony of applying too much logic to Waifuism.

There isn't a straightforward answer to that, as there are many Vocaloids with varying degrees of bio information. Some of them don't have much of a backstory, but then there are ones like Lumi, who is a jellyfish-themed goddess-to-be sent to the human world to transform 1000 "seeds of anguish" into "seeds of hope".

On the practical side, I feel that their history in our world makes for an interesting story in itself. The tale of Miku, from humble beginnings as a somewhat-obscure synth program, gaining popularity against the odds, changing and evolving into the face of a phenomenon, and the first true "virtual idol"… it would make a neat anime imo.

R07 writes plenty of different stuff but WTC is always mystery right? It doesn't look like a mystery at all. It's a fucking battle tournament. Rose Gun Days had pretty good action, if he's got something like that and makes a mystery out of it I'll probably be happy.

There's endless ways a story like that can diverge even before accounting for the probable ergodic and metafiction angles (and that's one thing Myth did extremely well). I'd be satisfied with just an action mystery but I have much higher expectations than that for a mainline WTC story.

I never never really said goodbye, because St the time I felt sort of ashamrd to admit it, but my own relationship to my waifu began to feel more like a chore than a passion. Faust, Moldy, Glass– I miss you fellas, but it didn't feel right remaining g in the community once I came to terms that I was falling out of love myself at the time. I hated the idea that I was basically a fraud, a 'fake waifufag',and then being amongst ya'll.

So, if anyone was wondering wherever I went, there you go.

My life's been pretty good otherwise. Career's okay, family's okay, my physical and mental health are well enough. My PC broke a while back and being the doofus I am I double fucked it while trying to repair it with new parts, so I'm basically going to have to make a new one from scratch. Once I do, maybe we can play some Vidya sometime still? I miss hanging out with you all– shitposting in discord and having fantastic movie nights/Best of the Worst streams, but as it stands, I'm going to make this my probably last post on /mai/. I was here not long after this board opened, and it makes me smile that it has cultivated such a dedicated, genuine, close-knit community. God's speed to all you waifufags and waifus out there

Sincerely,

- Ayylium, a.k.a. Harukofag

Shit man, I saw you logged off on Steam for ages and I was worried about what happened. Glad to see you're okay. I don't judge, feelings change over time. Not everyone is able to transition from the honeymoon phase to a more committed kind of love like I did.

I will say that it's still sad to see such relationships end. But let's keep in touch okay?

A very morbid and sinister scenario! As expected from those devilish trips.

But don’t worry, Flandre would never do such a thing, unless it is to protect herself or those she loves.

I received my little Flandre plush! She is so cute! Her little face could heal all illnesses!

I would like to hug her strongly and also sleep while holding her, but I know that it would damage the plush in the long run (I’m especially worried about her wings…), so for now I leave her in her plastic bag in a drawer… Have any of you ever felt this dilemma? You want to fully ‘’use’’ your waifu merch but feel reluctant because you want to protect it? It did the same when I bought my daki and my figure, although in the end I decided to sleep with my daki and display my figure. Still, I think the damage risk is more real regarding the plush… It’s also not something you can wash easily, at least not as easily as a daki cover.

I had no problem using her daki since that was the reason I bought it in the first place. My figure and plush of her I'm more protective of, especially since they're both custom made. I still keep my plush in it's bag too.

>I would like to hug her strongly and also sleep while holding her, but I know that it would damage the plush in the long run

I know that feel… Mine are similar in size(maybe a bit smaller), so they aren't exactly 'huggable-sized', anyway.

My compromise is to tuck her in next to me, safely out of harm's way, and just give her a goodnight kiss.

Stroking her hair and giving her headpats is also quite therapeutic.

>… It’s also not something you can wash easily

I try to be careful about this, and always wash my hands and such before touching them, but soon enough I'll have to brave the cleaning process. I did see a video somewhere about cleaning plushies once… incidentally, I think it was a Flandre fumo.

Kinda related, but I have some serious OCD when it comes to the waifu shrine. I'm always looking for the PERFECT way to display them. There's the temptation to just crowd everything on a table, but it's kinda tasteless IMO.

But now it raises the questions: "out of all my merch, what do I display?" "how do I arrange them?" "how much is too much?" "too little?" "how functional vs decorative should it be?".

Just about to move all my shit again lol. I CAN'T LEAVE IT ALONE!!!

Would you join the terror organization ultimate despair led by Enoshima Junko and abandon your friends, family and the world? What draws you to Junko in the first place? How would you define despair? And you don't think your relationship would be a slow long burn do you? You won't die an easy death. Unless you locked her in a dungeon. What do you think of her sister, would you let Junko kill her?

You mustn't give in to despair! Life needs hope! Life always needs a bright shining hope!

Just kidding. I can at least completely emphasize with enjoying evil. Junko is a very hammy kind of evil. Despair is just a necessary by product of hope. Failure is inevitable in life, it's how you deal with failure that shows your strength. You can't feel one without the other. Your love for despair is probably filled with hope, love is proof that you hope to be with someone.

I haven't played V3 yet by the way.

It's been pretty fun getting into a series in my peripheral interest for over a decade. Nagito, Kyoko, Byakuya, all the really competent characters are my favorites.

Wew, that's a lot of questions. Let's see

>Would you join the terror organization ultimate despair led by Enoshima Junko and abandon your friends, family and the world?

I'd like to think I would, but I don't know for certain how would I react if I really had to make that decision.

>What draws you to Junko in the first place?

To tell the truth, the first time I played the games I didn't think much of her and just saw her as a "force of nature" kind of villain that mindlessly spreads chaos and despair. I only started appreciating her more once I read the light novel Danganronpa/Zero which showed me that she's not an inhuman monster but a (mostly) normal person capable of feeling emotions who realizes the wrongness of her actions but does them anyways because the constant boredom that torments her due to her talent is worse than any despair.

Of course there are a lot of things I like about her, but I think more than anything it's this contrast between her absolute evilness and the hints of humanity she shows sometimes which makes me think maybe she could have been a normal girl if she didn't have any Ultimate talents.

Also, like her writer said in an interview: "this idea that absolute evil is still something that desirable, or overwhelming. And despite of how bad it is, because it's so powerful, and so absolute, you're still drawn toward it. "

>How would you define despair?

The result of expectations being crushed by reality.

>And you don't think your relationship would be a slow long burn do you?

Hah, no. I imagine it would last at most a couple years before she decides to kill me in the most despair-inducing way for the both of us.

That's why I prefer to imagine she's waiting for me in the afterlife theater from DR3. I don't expect that to actually happen IRL though.

>What do you think of her sister, would you let Junko kill her?

Well, it's not like I could stop her. She can basically predict people's actions just by looking at them.

>Despair is just a necessary by product of hope. Failure is inevitable in life, it's how you deal with failure that shows your strength. You can't feel one without the other. Your love for despair is probably filled with hope, love is proof that you hope to be with someone.

That's true. Even Junko herself feels hope just so she can despair. And I, as much as I try to lower my expectations of life, can't help but hope for a better tomorrow sometimes. But that's okay, I'm sure Junko would enjoy seeing me despair after realizing this better tomorrow hasn't arrived yet.

V3 is pretty good too. If you liked Nagito you're probably gonna like shota Hitler too. Some people hated the ending but personally I liked it, it was original at least. I don't wanna spoil anything so I'll leave it there for now.

Oh boy. Trying to one up D2's ending? Sounds like it will be fun.

No offense but I got really angry at Peko. I thought her character was easily the weakest, or at least the least developed in the whole series so far. I had zero sympathy for her killing motive and seeing the whole cast minus Hiyoko get teary eyed for her made me disgusted. Though maybe I'm missing something I don't know, she seems pretty popular for some reason. V3?

>>69732

Interesting I guess I should read Danganronpa/Zero then.

Don't you think it would be fun to fight against the villainous girl once in a while? You could betray her and crush her plans every now and then showing her the despair she wants. It would put you above the ultimate despairs too I think, as not just someone who blindly follows.

My waifu, or rather her removed metaphysical alter ego was a ruthless villain who tortured people out of boredom. In spite of that I believe strongly that she did nothing wrong. I guess that's why I'm interested in people who love villains. Thanks for answering my curiosity.

It's a good read if you're interested in how everything started. It's a much better prequel than Danganronpa 3 (the anime, not V3).

>Don't you think it would be fun to fight against the villainous girl once in a while? You could betray her and crush her plans every now and then showing her the despair she wants.

I guess trying to stop her would be fun once in a while, but I doubt I could actually ruin her plans unless she deliberately wanted me to, but then that'd just be another of her plans.

Oh, I know about Bernkastel. She's one of my favorite witches from Umineko along with Erika. I wouldn't exactly say Junko did nothing wrong (though sometimes I do say it just to piss people off) but I admire how she saw a problem in the world and decided to do something about it, and a lot of people loved and worshipped her for it so who knows? Maybe she really did nothing wrong depending on who you ask. Yes, I think morality is subjective but that's a topic for another day.

I hope they will accept my panel! Considering the mediocre and laughable waifu-war panel they held a few years ago, they should have no problem accepting my own panel.

Thinking about talking about waifuism in front of an audience (attendance to my panel could be over 100 if I’m lucky) makes me nervous, but also very excited!

I've kind of grown to experience something similar, but I don't really think it's depression as much as it is winter being really busy with me in college. I'm really not into the idea of daughteru but if I had a daughter it would be just like Nanoha.

I feel foolish for sleeping on the series for so long, doubly so because Nanoha is my waifu's seiyuu's biggest voice role.

I think a wife and a daughter are fundamentally different relationships. You can have a waifu because that imagined relation can be fueled by passion. Love for your child however is an obligation, and without condition (not always that way of course). I love my waifu as long as she remains Rika, as someone I recognize. However I would love my child no matter what person they are. It's a very complicated difference. To me a daughteru would feel forced and less real.

Anyway I finally did finish the entire series.

If she were my daughteru I'd have a fucking grandaughter and daughter in-law by now. Timeskips are wild. Highly recommend the series to any mahou shoujo or mecha fans.

That's an interesting way of looking at it.

You're right though, 'cause I've seen people love their kids even when they went off and lived the exact opposite of how they were raised. It really is unconditional.most of the time

I guess that despite feeling parental urges towards certain characters, it feels like I'd be taking it too far. Having a waifu is complicated enough as it is.

Nanoha is the most otaku shit ever. However it's got very little actual mechs.

Apparently the story goes that Nanoha was originally going to be a pretty generic magical girl spin off. It is pretty much a Cardcaptor Sakura ripoff for the first four episodes. Then someone on the team thought Nanoha looked like a Gundam in her white uniform, so they started cramming in mecha cliches into the story. So many that it ends in a battle on a spaceship hunted by the bureau that administers the space between dimensions. And season 2 hits the ground running after that.

Nanoha's nickname is the White Devil. They're crazy magical girl human mechs. Pick it up if you're okay with the magical girl stuff too.

I (finally) received a (very late) response from Otakuthon regarding the waifuism panel I submitted:

Greetings,

Thank you for your patience. The schedule has been finalized and unfortunately, due to the high amounts of panels submitted, we will not be able to include your panel in the event this year.

Sorry for the inconvenience,

Regards

Panels Team

I’m very disappointed as I was really looking forward to do this panel… I believe I should have provided a more detailed summary about my panel in the online form, but back at the time I submitted the form my panel’s plan was not that developed in my head so I only provided a broad summary with few details…

I can’t help but remember that crappy waifu war panel 2 years ago where some casual meme-type so called ‘’waifuists’’ would just insult each other’s waifu in order to win a stupid contest to determine who is ‘’best waifu’’. Why is such a retarded panel accepted and no a panel where people could learn something about a greatly misunderstood subject?

Nevertheless, I will still create my presentation and will resubmit for next year, and this time, I will provide a well detailed summary of my panel in the form. I might even upload a video of my presentation on Youtube where I will only show the slides and talk over them (don’t want to show my face online).

Nevertheless, I still feel disappointed…

Most content is text form for good reasons. It's much easier to read than to watch, especially on the phone. It's much easier to write a blog post and go from there based on how you change your mind and what comments you get than to try to anticipate an audience and come back next year. The only advantage of a gathering is that you can watch the crowd and that's useful if you're looking for an emotive reaction and plan to improvise. For everything else, it's easier for you to post things, especially text, to reach a good audience.

>However, the coffin scene seems very specific, so maybe it can be considered canon after all.

If it’s from an official manga, it is therefore canon, even if the original idea originated outside of canon.

>But I still think that the whole scene shows that she has a more mature, devilish (but not insane) side as well similar so Remilia.

I’m not sure to understand what you mean by ‘’mature’’ in that context…

One thing is sure and it is that this scene is ambiguous and could be interpreted in many different ways. I was hoping (and at the same time fearing) the chapter following that scene would reveal us more answers regarding what truly happened, but we got nothing. And as the story seems to depart from the SDM, we are likely to never know for sure.

I really hope we can see Flandre again in the manga. I waited so long for her to make a significant come back so I hope I can see more form her.

And with Flandre also appearing in recent Violet Detector and The Grimoire of Usami, it gives me hope that we’ll see her again soon in upcoming games and manga.

>After all, she hadn't "felt such evilness in SDM for a long time," meaning that it had happened before. It kind of shows what a troubled past the SDM must've had.

Flandre mention that the last time she felt ‘’such powerful malice inside the mansion’’ (is it what you are referring to?) is when Reimu broke in.

>Just like with Youmu's dork qualities, Meiling's were based on canon to begin with.

Can you elaborate on how you feel both Youmu and Meiling had dork qualities to begin with? Dialogues in Touhou are often quite silly and humoristic in nature so to me it seems almost all characters could be described as dorks to some extent.

>By the way, Meilingbro is still around on his Meiling board, in case you don

>If it’s from an official manga, it is therefore canon, even if the original idea originated outside of canon.

That's true and it wouldn't be the first time that ZUN himself gets influenced by fanon.

However, I also think that ZUN nowadays gives too much artistic freedom to his illustrators and it got to a point where I can't always tell what was actually intended by him.

But I guess you could also think of it as a team effort.

The problem is that it makes the characters even blurrier. I've already seen jokes about the huge discrepancy between Youmu in Lotus Eaters and Cheating Detective Satori.

>I’m not sure to understand what you mean by ‘’mature’’ in that context…

My current perception of Flandre's personality based on her dialogue in EoSD is essentially that of a child with a playful, somewhat mischievous side to her.

But that scene in the manga was unlike anything we'd seen from her before.

It definitely had a more serious tone.

Everything turned into jabs at Reimu and Meiling quickly, but I don't think that was all that scene was about.

>I really hope we can see Flandre again in the manga.

I imagine the manga will just revisit all kinds of loctions, but there's still a chance that everything will come together in the end.

>And with Flandre also appearing in recent Violet Detector and The Grimoire of Usami, it gives me hope that we’ll see her again soon in upcoming games and manga.

I think GoU and now Cheating Detective Satori are clear departures from previous printworks primarily focussed on the humans of Gensokyo.

Youmu also suddenly seemed to matter again over the past year or so.

>Can you elaborate on how you feel both Youmu and Meiling had dork qualities to begin with?

This was in reference to Flandre calling Meiling a ポンコツ, a character stereotype that, from my understanding, has a similar meaning to dork in the Western fandom.

It's usually used for characters that seem capable, cool or serious at first but have unexpected weaknesses that destroy that image.

But it's true that almost all characters are like that in Touhou to some extend, just some more so than others. In Touhou this weakness is usually carelessness.

Youmu is a rather extreme case. Just take a look at her dialogue in GoU alone and I think you'll understand. She has all kinds of weaknesses, but to me that makes GoU an invaluable document.

Well, the latest chapter of Cheating Detective Satori sure was something.

It quickly turned into thousands of posts about Youmu being an idiot and her mistress being a bad influence on her on the Japanese internet.

Using Youmu as comic relief is fine and all because that's part of her charm, but I wish ZUN would also let her redeem herself in the print works. She rarely gets to show off her competent side.

That being said, I think there's a reason why Satori explained the nature of evil spirits to Youmu. It's clearly foreshadowing something just like that whole part about there possibly being something else out there in the Netherworld.

It was Alphinaud. Although I said we broke up, I feel like your waifu/husbando never truly leaves you. I no longer have any romantic feelings for him, but he's still there, and is still important to me. Kind of like a good friend. I still play his game and save pictures of him. Sometimes I find myself feeling nostalgic about the relationship, but we really werent right for each other. I found someone else who has him as a husbando and she seems to be taking good care of him, so I'm happy for him.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear that there's still some activity somewhere. Maybe I just havent been looking in the right places but it seems like there aren't that many places left that keep up the spirit of serious waifuism. Yeah, I think I remember you. Alphinaud has a distinctive look so I have the feeling I remember seeing some of his pics you posted.

When you mention that Alphinaud has remained a good friend for you, I was wondering, do you still talk to him? I mean, maybe the nature for your relationship changed, but do you sometimes spend a moment to talk to him (if you ever did it when he was your husbando)?

And regarding the board, I hope we will keep growing as a community. The 8chan to 8kun transition had a big impact, but we survived better than I expected.

I think last time I posted was back in 8chan, yikes.

So, whatever happened to your panel? I'm not sure if the video you uploaded to youtube is the one you will use or if you already used it, but I'm still interested in this. Great job on the video, by the way.

Hi! Yeah, I think I remember you as your husbando’s face does look familiar. It’s good to see you back. Feel free to join us on Discord too (see the pinned thread).

Wow, so you remembered this whole panel saga. I finally decided to make a Youtube video instead as I could reach more people this way. I might present it as a panel too one day, that is, if that damn Covid can finally stop (last year, the anime convention was only held online, and it will be the same this year too… I rather wait and present it in person).

I’m happy you liked my video!

Funny, I haven't seen someone make this mistake in a long time. I guess she does look very masculine in that picture and I didn't include her name in my post or filename. I'll make sure to leave a post in the discord thread, thanks for the invite.

I couldn't post back then, but I kept lurking every now and again and it caught my interest when I first read it. I really only remembered it after watching your video. Wish you luck in your next attempt with the panel.

Oh I'm sorry! All memes and SJW considerations aside, I can tell you that I’m sorry that I assumed her gender haha.

It's true that she looks rather masculine in the picture of your previous post with her short hair and those clothes (not to mention that gender distinction is often not as obvious in facial features of anime-style characters as compared to 3D people). But regardless, your waifu is beautiful.

Maybe I just confused her with someone else? It’s all blurry in my mind but I have this feeling that I’ve seen your waifu’s face before.

And regarding the panel, I’ll sure let you (and this whole community) know about it if it’s ever going to happen.
