Maybe

I've left my property less than ten times in the last four years. I Don't know if it fits the classic definition of hikki as I do leave my house but stay on my property as all I do outside is work on my garden, fish, and do basic chores.

Earlier today I tried going outside. A walk from the door all the way to the grocery store and then back. 30 meters. Sounds easy. So, I stepped outside. The first thing I saw was two ugly old men loudly arguing about something. They were making complex gestures with their arms. I could see and smell their hairy armpits. I took a few steps. There was a literal pile of shit right there on the sidewalk, where everyone is supposed to walk. Some dude on an old scooter was reving the vehicle's engine, making loud noises and he almost ran me over. Another few steps and I see a long strain of dog piss running through the sidewalk. There is trash everywhere. In fact, there is a literal pyramid of trash bags standing by a telephone mast. An old, fat, black woman sings and dances to some hip hop trash. There is the sound of cars, trucks and buses and the smell of their polluting exhausts. Another few steps and a car passes by playing more loud, trashy music. I finally reach the corner. We are halfway to the grocery store. A group of kids walks by, they are wearing school uniforms. One of them throws a fucking CD or a disk or whatever the shit that was as if it was a frisbee. The kids, of course, talking - screaming, actually - very loudly. One of them throws some kind of stick at a car passing by. On my final steps to reach the grocery store, a whole lot of sleeping beggars, just laying on the sidewalk in broad daylight, with flies orbiting their heads. The smell was unbearable. I rushed inside the grocery store, relieved by the air conditioning but ultimately still in panic because of the sheer amount of ugly, loud, dirty and smelly people inside. The cashier took some 5 minutes to return me the change because the register had no money and she had to get some at the back of the store. During those 5 minutes, the rest of the queue, full of men and women in hijab, was just staring at me as if I was to blame for this store's lack of professionalism. My way back home was full of experiences similar to my journey to the store. All of this happened in Germany, a supposedly first world country, so God forbid me from just thinking about how life must be in other parts of the world. But now my mother is telling me I will have to go out everyday to get myself something to eat AND I'll have to walk a fucking dog too - including watching him piss and clean his poop-. Fuck this shit. This is all honestly disgusting. Any pride or dignity I might one day have had was lost today and this has become Hell. If you are hikikomori and if you are reading this, don't go outside ever, for your own good.

Germany was a nice country in the past.

But the world has a vendetta against them for trying to break free of banking debt culture everyone is so deeply ingrained in.

Conspiracy conspiracy, yada yada, you've seen the result. As reprimand for its antisemitism, the country must take in as many troubled peoples as possible.

Long gone is the prideful engineering, productivity, enforced cleanliness, and national spirit.

I'm sure you were avoiding news and politics for a long while, but you're stuck with a 'refugee crisis' from the middle east.

In almost any 'civilized' country I would suggest just becoming nocturnal. Go for food during the dark night if possible, walk the dog around the time the sun rises. People up that early are often more irritable, sure, though much more civilized and less aggressive.

But I don't think Germany is anywhere near safe enough during those times.

You are screwed.

But not everywhere around the world is like that. Modern Germany is really one of the worst.

Some small towns in America (and Japan, I've heard) even have unmanned stalls for produce. With just a small box for currency deposit, not locked in any way. People there are just that trustworthy, with excess food for the population and no intent or need to ship it out.

Where I live, it's not that crazy safe, but it is much better.

There are a ton of harsh niggers and other trash, but they keep to their little urban shitholes. The police don't really bother them there for anything not affecting other areas. Like trading each other cannabis, high end shoes they got from who knows where, making a ton of noise, and whatnot.

But outside of their little hubs, police are strict on anyone, so the spanning suburbs are very peaceful because troublesome people stay away.

Then there's several stores open almost 24h with self checkouts. A manager stands nearby watching those, and the restocking crew, but I never have to interact with anyone.

I walk around at 3 in the morning sometimes, without much care or worry.

It is nice.

It's big. Oats, Barley, Vegetables. Fruit grows all over the valley. I have pigs, chickens, a goat, and a cow. Creek runs through the edge of one part of my property and into my brothers. Soap you can make at home, alcohol you can make at home. You can buy tobacco online. Internet is for entertainments. When I get really hard up for some luxury I can call one of my neighbors and see if I can talk them into picking it up next time they are in town in exchange for a trade or favor.

The definition of hikikomori doesn't actually say anything about not leaving home, it just says you must have spent most of the time at home, rarely going outside, and being a recluse, for the past 6 months.

In other words, yes.

True some are self-employed and work from home but for the most part if you have no problem going outside or socializing and are going to school everyday which means you're going outside than you're not a real hikikomori you are just an introvert to be a hikikomori you have to be stuck inside your room or apartment for 6 months or more usually only going outside for food and keep in mind most hikkis are agoraphobic and have really bad social anxiety too.

I went to school because I would have gotten hurt quite badly if I did not go; my mother was not one to cross and liked to drink a lot. I think we were both objects of embarrassment to those around us. After finally completing school, I went full hikki for about 2.5 years. Before the current portion of my life I never left the house unless it was at night or where no one else was around, and that was rare. The only people I saw were my immediate family until I got kicked out, and only once in a while since shame was felt by everyone. My room was my home and haven. If I did not need to eat or use the toilet I would have never left.

It has been a decade or so since then. University was okay since it was in a very small specialized school and I was the only one of my year that took programming, so I got a little room with a computer in it to myself. I was not used to normal people hours so I slept more than I worked and barely passed. Getting a job was not easy because I could not interact with people normally, but I was always too lax and depressed to have proper anxiety. Mostly I was just self-conscious of how awkward and clueless I was and wished I did not have to be there. For jobs, I pretended I was someone else, kept things that worked and discarded things that did not. I was told I am good at hiding my lack of social experience now, but if you wait long enough I will guaranteed spill my spaghetti. I do not like it outside of my home except in places with no noise or people.

>>34229

I feel this way for the majority. Though I hate dealing with most other people I am glad that I have tried since I have learned things I would not have otherwise. Right now I hope to find a way to work from home so I can go back to what is comfortable for me and where I no longer have to act and lie to survive. It is very stressful. After a shift, it takes a long time to unwind and I am 5x more tired than I should be. Were I a nervous sort I may have had a breakdown by now but I am in a better place for this currently.

>>35069

There is no respectable otaku. Otaku are considered strange and shameful, people who are lazy and do not work as they should because they focus too much on their useless hobbies. Sometimes potential killers or pedophiles depending on whom you speak with. Mostly otaku means loser that you do not wish to become. Japan is not a heaven for hikkis, it is a hell of overwork and hikikomori behavior is a partial by-product.

By respectable otaku I mean someone who is respected in the otaku community. Just because someone isn't respected by society doesn't mean they can't be respected in a subsociety.

Take /jp/ for example, browsing this site isn't respected amongst most people on this planet, but amongst our own little community I am a well respected member

I have enough saved up to live off of, about 50kUSD, from working a few years, so my mum and brother won't kick me out.

But come next year when I can't piggyback my mum's health insurance for cheap I'll probably have to work part time somewhere at least. Because health insurance rates for the unemployed look HELLA expensive, and there's a yearly FINE for not having health insurance, neither of which are really that sustainable. America kind of sucks in that regard. But everywhere sucks in some way.
