I'm the designer of a new htg/stg game called "Imperator" - it's set in a historical (non fantasy) Rome. It takes place in approx 192 AD during the era of the five emperors. You play the role of Marcus Furious Camillus. We've just completed a very rough 'tech demo' that will lead to an Alpha test release in a month or so.
The game is intended to function a little like Jack O'Nine Tails or Slave Maker. As the male MC, your only route out of absolute poverty and back into the aristocracy, your only way to redeem your family name is to build the strength, wealth, and influence of your family (Your Gens Familia). To do this you will have to start and run a successful brothel, train whores, and successfully place freed whores into positions of influence with others.

There are two types of fiscal models for Patreon projects, what you realistically need in order to complete a project and what people will actually give you. There are idiots out there who give boatloads of money but so far you've gotten $7. You might get more after a demo but I think you need to be a little more realistic in what you'll receive.
There's also the third route of just pocketing the money like some people but you seem to be paying for art so I don't think you'll do that.

So 3/10. Little to no interest in this really, not until you have something substantial.

In my own defense…
1. First artist from last year, a great guy who goes by Cappus22 on HF and DA got a full time job and left the project.
2. I didn't admit that I wasn't up to doing the renpy/python myself until February and hired a guy to start the code in March, working about 10 hours a week.
3. I got a new artist some time around the end of the year, and although she's a great gal and does decent art, she was too slow for me to work with. I waited and waited on output.
4. The first working internals started online in May/June, and the tech demo came from then.
5. I hired a new artist, "Aux" as a partner *just six weeks ago*
So yeah, it's taken forever. Those aren't excuses, just what happened. As to something substantial, as I said I'm hoping to have a shitty alpha with some content in Mid-October.

And just to communicate really openly, the holdup on everything is art. I have two artists, a BG artist and a character artist ("Aux"). Aux is really excellent, and we'll have the character static files done by the Alpha. Where the character art will slow down is in the dollification and emo. We dont know how long that will take, since it has to be coordinated between the artist and the developer of the doller very carefully.
The second piece is the BG art. Each BG takes a week or two, depending on complexity. Sometimes even longer. Each exterior is rendered in five lightings, Morning, day, afternoon, evening, and night are each a separate bg. Right now I am estimating that I need about 40 discrete BG. Of those 40, 12 are done now for the tech demo. I need around 12 more for the Act I set.
Places in Rome you will be able to visit (current plan) are - Brothel, new villa, market, slave market, argue at law court on basilica steps (pleb courts), train at campus martius, socialize at baths, go to circus maximus and collosseum, participate in rites at a temple (not sure which one?)

So far this week we have a rough sketch for Gaius the moneylender. We have an approved sketch for Alfidia the brothel madam. We've redone the code for storing character array values, moving to loading from an external file. The merchant transaction code is under active debug and test for inclusion in the Alpha.

Please delay combat as long as you don't have a good story around it, reasons to use this feature. In reality this means feuding. Family is already down, thus it would be stupid and fighting gets you nowhere.
Like r.g. sis (or some other female, love interest) is being raped, pc or husband cannot defend her. Former business partners or 'friends of family' shat on your fathers legacy and ruined you all, your family name got tainted. Still haunt you at times. You need to take matters in your own hands.
Also if pc is sort of a patrician he and other males of the family (uncles, nephews?) may have combat experience. He is not a total loser and scumback, has made some friends. Old buddies from time when he was serving a campaign somewhere come to aid him.
Think of clientele system too. Maybe pc supports old gladiator, he in turn showing him some bad ass dirty tricks how to survive combat against multiple attackers. Could become his consiliarius and bodyguard.
As mentioned, reasons for payback time are a must. Why pc does need a refresh or learn to git gud? Fights just because is dumb. Sometimes combat is just attached to gain more gameplay, sucks balls.

Here's how skills work:
1. Unopposed skill roll (skill range from 1 to 100 +/- modifiers) - roll d100, if you roll under your skill, you succeed.
2. Resisted skill roll - 'climb a difficulty 20 fence' - roll d100, must be under your skill minus the difficulty
3. Opposed skill roll, - you roll, opponent rolls. If you have more success (roll 15 on 75 skill = 60 success) than your opponent, you win.
I want to clarify though - in the game you will NOT see any dice rolling. It's all behind the scenes, and the game wont even tell you what skill check just got made.
If you *fail* your skill roll, you can learn from that failure. You learn from failure, not success.
No experience points anywhere. No experience from combat. No experience from killing things.
All there are is skills, and you're either good at them or not. No experience.

He needs a powerful political ally, and he's a nobody petty aristocrat from the sticks with nothing but a good family name and a military history. Once he is wealthy, he can woo and marry the daughter of a powerful political patron. This will immediately boost him into the correct social circles. Once he married this woman, the true-romance path is closed. Other seductions are possible though.
Alternatively, he can attempt to rise on his own, with only loosely allied patrons. That's a harder path. If he chooses this path, there will be a beautiful and sexy woman for him to seduce who will bring him no new allies, just love. (True-Romance path)
Dark-Romance path is marrying a freedwoman whore with power and influence. It makes becoming emperor even harder than the above. But this path brings intrigue and dark associations with it.
* Combat - Combat in this game has no healing potions. No quick recovery. You can die brutally. You can be maimed. You can be wounded and then fail to recover.
Combat is a part of the game because you can be mugged randomly. You can be the target of an assassination attempt. You can (stupidly) attempt to gain fame as a gladiator. You can be caught in a street riot.

Quick update. I've gone through no less than four (!!!) crappy 'devs' off of freelancer.com to build the payment portal website and sunk well over $500 into them doing bad work. So, I bit the bullet and hired a more professional web dev team, which will cost me more money. I hope to launch the membership site in January. We moved off of Patreon because of the censorship issue. Our out of date blog is now on Tumblr for a while.
Meanwhile, the game is steadily improving. There are now sex scene animations for the first slave, 'fasti' the latin girl. Initially it will be just limited to a tit job, hand job and regular sex. We'll go back and add more after the second girl is developed.
Simple animations are in place, blinking, talking, etc. We've added the skeleton of the brothel management screens where you hire guards, select food quality, etc. We hired and dropped a developer, and finally added two part time guys to the team. Progress is picking up.
We're *NOT* on schedule for the Alpha, almost a month behind where I want to be, which is really disappointing. I'll post more as we get closer to the alpha. Meanwhile, I'll upload a couple of images from the game.

Nevermind the time value, just the cost of *tools* to do the job well and quickly would overrun $500. It takes about 1 hour to mockup and wireframe some demos based on a client's spec, time to set up access points to the client's host that can range from 5 min. to 5 hours, and that's assuming the client *has* a host and domain name… time to reorganize whatever bizarrely formatted content the client has into links and site structure, time to even *decide* site structure, and that's all before actually building the website itself.

Oh, and I just noticed you're talking about a payment portal too. Which term means a third-party service. That means SSL and protected content, and the difficulty of the job varies wildly based on how you're accepting payment.
If you want a CMS (content management) backend tied in so you don't have to kludge your website pages' code yourself every time you update… it has to tie into your host's ssl too. Wordpress is the classic example. And your base template + modifications + addons all have to work together with your content, 3rd party services, and your client's (i.e. you) comfort level with managing and navigating it's tricky bits.
Forget even dreaming about $500, you're talking an extra digit there minimum. Maybe 2, to get it professionally done. You'll either have to do it yourself or find some schlunk who is enough of a fan and a masochist to do it for you.

Is there any good evidence for this? From what I have found this is only one of the suggested possible reasons from a whole list of suggestions. But the hygiene one is strange. The source of this is egypt and it looks like it mostly spread from there outwards. This is inaccurate. Originally it was a very small cut which still left people with most of the foreskin. The modern style emerged in the Roman period when the Jews would engage in several methods of trying to appear as if they weren't circumcised at all (for the baths and so on) and the religious leaders made it stricter in a backlash against that.
This brings us back to the point. Being circumcised like the MC is was only a thing for part of the Roman period, and even if we're in that part, then it was a thing done specifically to differentiate the Jews from the Romans who would never have participated in it themselves.
