i've finished the story portion of the code vein network test and i guess i'll go through the "high difficulty dungeon" this weekend.
It's basically a much-less refined bloodborne. The twist on the concept is the idea of blood oaths, which are basically classes. This would be interesting if the combat was complicated enough to necessitate choosing the right class for the situation, but you can basically just mash it out and be fine. Just like bloodborne, you've got visceral attacks that occur when you attack an enemy from behind as well as on parries, but the parry visceral attack happens automatically. Movement feels okay? a bit too fast, and the game attempts to compensate with tracking on attacks that look ridiculous at times (once, the boss of the story area turned 180 degrees in a few frames to hit me, which isn't new for the genre, but not welcome, tbh).
the overall aesthetic and character designs remind me a lot of phantom dust -- there's a lot of urban ruins and people wearing patched up clothes that look really close to nomura's belts and zippers. Everyone's a nice, clean anime person, and your love interest has large titties that bounce a lot when she runs, so the people who usually complain about this sort of thing being toned down in the west will probably find a lot to like here.

>you only level up, you don't increase certain stats (which makes sense, because the classes modify the stats)
>there isn't much in the way of character customization -- you choose the face and "balance" (basically how big ur boobs are if you're a girl) and then you have colors to choose from. There are outfits to pick, but not many. I assume that you'll be able to unlock more as the game goes on, but am unsure.
