so I decided to do an Id-Ego-Superego reading for Spongelord, based on the (outmoded, but symbolically suggestive) Freudian idea that a child is born with only strong, instinctual urges (Id) that become tempered with the internalization of moral and cultural external expectations (Superego), and a unique, experiencing self (Ego) forms to negotiate that conflict.

>First card, Id, on the left: VIII. Strength

Strength is, interestingly, the card of overwhelming force, but directed towards an end. It can indicate success and dynamic action, but controlled, not wild. It is a feminine card- the "strength" referred to is that of the woman who has tamed the lion. This would indicate that Spongelord's instinctual impulses are strongly directed and goal-oriented, perhaps referring to his obsessive nature.

>Second card, Superego, on the right: II. the High Priestess

This card is the card of feminine creative and occult power- Sophia, the feminine wisdom of God, in mysticisms that incorporate such ideas. The High Priestess represents a deep knowledge of the underlying, hidden order of the world- secret knowledge, the unknown, mystery. An interesting thing to be paired with the concept of Superego! This would indicate a socialization in which there is deep truth to be found, but that is imparted in obfuscated ways. It's suggestive of an influential, but not necessarily warm- perhaps even feared- mother figure.

This card is in the position of describing what is unique and aware in Spongelord's personality, and it is the card of unmitigated disaster. I'm not making this up, that is the one and only thing the Tower means- unexpected, unpredictable, and unstoppable calamity.

The reading as a whole indicates that an unusually strong and narrowly-focused instinctual drive in Spongelord, coupled with a childhood in which the outside world he observed was mysterious and whose order was unclear, led to, well, who Spongelord is today, which is to say a disaster of a human being. The number of the Id card, which is 8, and the number of the Superego card, 2, multiply to make the number of the Ego card, 16. This suggests to me that, in Spongelord's upbringing, his aggressive and self-serving drive was amplified- doubled- by the environment in which he found himself, rather than being tempered.

I swear to God I didn't pick these cards on purpose. I would have switched the High Priestess and Strength if I had, Strength is a card that usually implies discipline and the High Priestess is a card of the irrational and unclear.
