How much do you relate to Tatsuhiro satou /hikki/??.

I think we can all relate to Satou in several ways. After all, he's a hikikomori written by a hikikomori, so he's bound to be a lot like us. I personally get that feeling that Satou gets when he goes out and feels like people are judging him, despite being perfect strangers. It also hit close to home at the end of the novel when Satou is seeing Yamazaki, Misaki, and the girl from high school all moving on with their lives when he's not. He resents them, but also wants to be happy for them, and I feel that way about old friends as well. Also when he's at his construction job at the end, and he sees someone from high school and tries to hide his face. I've also felt that kind of shame in the fact that I'm in my mid 20s now, and the best I've been able to do is a job that paid minimum wage.

True also isn't the author of the novel still living as a hikki to this day??.

I remember his notes at the end of Welcome to the N.H.K! where he expresses his shame over not writing anything else and over still being a hikikomori who now lives off the royalties of the book/manga/anime. Also, I did a bit of searching, and I was able to find a few things. First, he has his own website but there isn't much to it, just a list of his works with links to purchase them online. Also, I found an article explaining how several years after finishing NHK, he got into spirituality, things like meditation and fortune-telling and so on. Also, he did actually write a new piece entitled Boku no Air, which apparently wasn't very well received. That was a few years ago, at this point no one knows where he is or what he's doing.

The scenes where he had panic attacks in public hit a little to close to home. Even had a girl like Misaki intrested in me believe it or not. Online of course but I remember watching anime with her and she brightened up my miserable, anxiety filled existence. Even made me more confident with myself and people. I remember her saying something along the lines of

>you're intresting

>I want to get to know you

I got blackout drunk once and called her and I said something like

>I hate falling in love again

>who with?

>panic

>Uuuh my waifu of course

To this day I relive that hazy memory in my head over and over again and think to myself what if I had said yes. Would it have changed her losing interest in me and stop talking to me as soon as she got a boyfriend. I don't know. But I regret 2 things. I regret ever meeting her and I regret not confessing my love to her. I feel like I got to be Satou for for half the show but I never got his happy ending and just reverted back to being episode 1Satou

Same here the few times i do go out in public like to the store or whatever i honestly feel like people are looking down on me and mocking me behind my back because somehow they know i'm not contributing to the outside world.

This is the reality for most of us, not everyone is going to get opportunities or succeed in changing their life like it happens in stories. That's why it hurts extra much to get into a show like NHK and then not being able to relate at the end anyway.

I like the book better because it's a lot more realistic.

I agree. The book was definitely more grounded in the real world, and the ending was good because even though it wasn't necessarily a happy one, it was realistic and open-ended. Life was uncertain for Satou at the end of the book, but he pressed on because he had no other choice. That is one of the big ways in which Satou's life is very much like ours.

This is very true i think it's kinda true as well that someone isn't really going to enjoy NHk unless they can relate to it in some way considering the fact that the majority of the people in it's fan base are Neets Hikkis and Otakus.
