I am currently eating the one in the picture. I also eat nissin, maruchan, shin ramyun, and neogiri ramen as well. I try to conserve my stock of instant ramen, so I eat very frugally. I also cook some rice to go along with the ramen.

Creamy Tom Yum is good but rare to find around here. Some how they made flavor packet turn the water into creamy stock. I am slightly paranoid they use weird chemicals to do it.

The Chicken flavor is most common around here. It is always sold out.

I retired and went to Taiwan because it's cheaper than the US, but I can't read or speak Chinese. I just stay in my room and only go out for a food run. Bought a panasonic rice cooker, it's the best one I ever owned, it makes, rice, white or brown, soup, noodles, ramen, I'm very happy with it. I like all kinds of Ramen, but now I just buy noodles, my favorite lately is Tainan Guan Miau noodles, thin and wide. And I get herbs and spices, curry, whatever goes in soup like vegetables, beans, eggs etcetra. Coffee, Old San Francisco Golden Sesame Cafe Latte, all kinds of really good tea here. And now I'm a hermit/hikki, I stay occupied with 8ch, and artwork. I've been an artist my hole life, you can do anything on a computer now. I have the new Chromebook flip c302 touchscreen, the google play store just opened up for it and android apps are now compatible, it's amazing. When I was a kid we didn't even have TV, we had to play in the dirt with plastic army men, light them on fire and make home made bombs for play war. Now we have everything, but people don't want to talk to each other anymore. Bubble gum was 1 cent, a bottle of coke was 5 cents, a loaf of bread was 3-4 cents. The difference between now and 40 years is that things were very simple and cheap, and we talked to strangers. It seems that we have everything now, but the world is so complicated that you can hardly fix anything, and no one wants to know you, they won't even look at you.

take care everyone.

I picked up cooking as a hobby mainly because I hated mother's cooking as a teen.

That being said, ramen's great supper food. I do pic related, it's 13 cents a pack, the cheapest we have. I also add a bit of salt, as well as some curry spices to it to give it a bit more flavor. Good shit.

It's starch, some kind of food gum, or egg yolk powder. I wouldn't worry too much about it tbh.

If you're really paranoid, the thickening agent they used is probably printed on the ingredient list.

Thickening soups is one of the most fundamental things in cooking, so there isn't really a reason to use weird chemicals to do it.

No I haven't tried beet soup but it looks really good. Pierogi looks very good also. I learned how to make Indian Chapati a flat bread, very easy to make, you can use it to make pierogie. My Grandmother taught me to make regular yeast bread when I was still a child, and sourdough is very easy too. The problem is you need an oven which complicates things, I've had varying degrees of success using a slow cooker and/or a good rice cooker with very low temp setting to make bread. I found a pdf on torrent years back on Chinese noodles, steam buns, potstickers, etcetra and you can have a really delicious and cheap diet this way. Use meat as a condiment or flavoring to keep the cost down and lots of vegetables, it's healthier that way too. I got into Indian and Bengali spice to make anything taste good also. I hope all of this helps you to eat well and enjoy life more. Find some good quality short grain brown rice in bulk, and quality toasted sesame oil, virgin coconut oil, use these as a staple, they are very healthy, cheap. I cook everything else in a clear flavored broth and add it on top of the rice. I control my intake of calories, take walks late at night to avoid the Lunatic Asylum. Pick heavy things up and then put them down, move around, exercise using youtube examples. You won't gain weight, feel better, sleep better, your alternate universe will feel more normal. Also 11 years ago I learned the microcosmic orbit (Qigong) meditation from some Monks that I ran into. Ever since I've done this twice per day, laying down, before getting out of bed and then before going to sleep, I make two or three revolutions for my health.

Take care

I use a quart of buttermilk in a gallon of regular milk, keep the cap loose and let it sit out without refrigeration for about three days. Heavy cream for making whipped cream, add about three tablespoons per cup and do the same as above, let it sit on the counter until its sourcream (Creme Fraiche), once you do this you will always make your own, its so good and easy.

>at nissin, maruchan, shin ramyun

I still live off with maruchan. A few years ago, my mother bought shin ramyun. That spicy stuff is so good. So much sodium and all but it's so damn good.

I don't like some brands that have the cup versions. I prefer cooking the package types in a pot. It tastes more better than the cup version but there are a few exceptions that are just amazingly tasty.

Not really ramen but black bean noodles with steam rice is so good. They're called Jjajangmyun in Korean. I tried the one with the powder and oil packets and it wasn't really good but the one that has small package containing already the sauce and everything is legit.

It's this brand: http://koreainmykitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/077.jpg

I tried one of this big bowl instant ramen from Japan. It was funny that they include one piece of pork in a small packet. It has everything to make instant ramen. Let me tell ya, it tastes just like the real thing.

Just something about noodles, makes a real good meal anyhow. Convenient otherwise. I'm probably the only one who drinks milk while eating maruchan chicken ramen flavor. The taste after you eat some noodles and then drink milk is refreshingly good for me.

Due to certain circumstances I couldn't bring myself to go to the kitchen to eat, after the first day I decided to see what it'd be like if I continued to fast. I lasted about 70 hours before I couldn't ignore hunger anymore, before that it was just a nagging hollow feeling like a pang of loneliness that wouldn't go away. I managed to hold on for another 4 hours after that but when you're alone with only yourself for company, being extremely hungry on top of everything else makes any attempt at escapism extremely difficult. I think what really got me in the end was not being able to face myself, rather than the hunger. It was an interesting experience and I'll most likely try it again and see if I can go for longer next time. Despite originating from a bad experience it turned into a very positive one contrary to my original expectations. I also thought I'd feel a sense of regret for folding after 3 days but I'm actually looking forward to trying it again.

When you break your fast…suggestion.

I use fresh limes and salt water, or you can use lemons or grapefruit, like a salty lemonade. Drink a large glass before taking food this will clean you out. Then have a banana, later something bland like oatmeal, flavored with banana, raisins, brown sugar or honey and milk, cinnamon is good …this is a very good way to start the day after a long fast. After you eat you will want to take a nap, don't set the alarm or allow anything to wake you, just sleep until you wake naturally.

Take care

Agreed, it's good & has a pretty big portion size. If the spice is too much for you, just put in half & it's still got a decent amount of heat.

I microwave my ramen in a bowl of water for the average lunch, but sometimes it gets clumped together, y'know? Unless the noodles are strong enough to not dissolve in the broth, I drain it. So, I put in a little cap-full of olive oil with it all during the nuking process. It makes broth-less noodles retain the savory flavor without drying out too fast.

In my region of the USA, I've seen these pop up in the frozen sections of certain Walmarts. They're pretty damn good; even the broth is good (which is never the case for me with storebought ramen over here.)

I mostly don't use a kettle or stovetop because I'm an impatient little fuck who thinks waiting for water to boil on top of cooktime is too long, once I remember I need to eat something for once. But an electric kettle sounds pretty cool, I might check it out. All I have is a teapot that might be around 15yrs old.

Yeah, because it comes with meat and veg.

Pretty sure you can do it traditionally with boiling water versus the microwave though.

I was skeptical because frozen ramen sounded odd to me, but I ended up enjoying all of them.

My favorite homemade ramen:

Knorr Tomato Bouillon with Chicken Flavor

https://www.target.com/p/knorr-174-granulated-bouillon-tomato-chicken-15-9-oz/-/A-15211241

Or:

Seasoned Vegetable Base

https://www.betterthanbouillon.com/products/product-detail.aspx?productid=18

I put water to boil angel hair pasta or whatever kind you like. When It's cooked

I take some of the hot pasta water, put in

a bowl. Use one or the other soup bases above to flavor the water according to taste.

Then I add either Tamari soy sauce or Ponzu

for a rich salty taste.

And some Cholula Hot Sauce or Curry.

You can make your own with, Ancho, and

Madras Sambar Masala and whatever else

you like to taste. From here it's your own recipe, you can add meat, vegies, egg etcetera.

It's really wonderful way to make your own simplified Ramen with everything you like.

Have fun :)

I tried this spicy chicken ramen flavor: https://pasteboard.co/GUA1oBr.png

My aunt brought it over a couple of weeks ago. I had no idea it was spicy until I tried it. I didn't think it would be THAT spicy. My mouth was on fire. What sucks is that there was no milk at the time. But it was so good tho.

I also tried this one called chapagetti: https://pasteboard.co/GUA32MF.jpg

I talked about the black bean noodles that I mentioned: >>1067

But the chapagetti was terrible. It tasted nothing. Would prefer the one I mentioned: >>1067

It's more flavored and it's close to the real thing.

If I really want to dedicate more on the ramen stuff, I would probably import the stuff that Japan has.

This one is so good: https://www.airfrov.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Screen-Shot-2016-04-13-at-1.21.51-PM.png

Do you guys know of any good vegetarian instant ramen? The vegetable flavours usually have shellfish in them so I have to know specific ones to get.

>vegetarian instant ramen

First: What, Exactly, is Ramen?

Ramen noodles are made from wheat flour and oil, usually with a few extra ingredients for flavor, such as salt, or additional fillers such as potato starch - and that's it!

All these ingredients are 100% vegetarian, and even 100% vegan!

So, then what's the problem with eating ramen noodles as a vegetarian or even as a vegan? It's the seasoning packets that accompany the noodles which are nearly always decidedly not vegetarian, as they usually contain such appetizing ingredients as "powdered cooked chicken" or "dehydrated beef extract". To be 100% clear: The ramen noodles themselves are vegetarian, but the little seasoning packets are usually not. But, keep reading…

The one major exception to this rule is Top Ramen brand Oriental flavor, which contains no animal ingredients at all, including in the flavoring packet and is both vegetarian and vegan. So by all means, stock up on this vegetarian ramen brand! Look for the blue Top Ramen packages at your grocery store. Top Ramen's chili flavored ramen is also vegetarian and vegan, though it is not as common as the Oriental flavor.

https://www.thespruce.com/are-ramen-noodles-vegetarian-3378465

I use this to make my own soup base, it's organic vegetarian and add whatever else I like.

Well of course refrigerated freight is very expensive. Amazon is a warehouse dealer and anything that doesn't go through the established channels is going to be expensive. The grocery thing is really just them trying to further establish themselves at the online Walmart. It's an experiment and they don't have the direct resources to ship groceries fast and cheap because those channels simply don't exist though they will in the future. They're already competing with actual Walmart because they have a service where you can simply order anything in the store and then pick it up hours later. This is just a matter of distribution. The smart move is being a middleman between retail and consumers for a reasonable rate. Their already are many businesses that do personal shopping but i'm not aware of any doing it on a significant scale and for a reasonable margin. All these personal shopping apps are really just gimmicks people use a couple times and forget about because they're expensive as fuck.

I live out of maruchan. They are dirt cheap where I live (only 3 pesos each, a us dollar is 20 pesos, so…), and you can actually live on welfare even without disability with that (assuming you dont pay rent). Does anyone know a cheaper ramen soup than maruchan?

Nothing wrong with that, everyone has different tastes. An anon in another thread suggested eating oatmeal to stave off hunger, which is actually very effective and a healthy alternative to ramen.

>I just drink tea or coffee to keep the hunger away.

I do this too. What kind of teas do you like anon? I think my personal favorite is a tea called 'Masala Chai' which is an India-based tea. It has cinnamon, ginger, clove, and some other things and it smells wonderful.

I got EBT the other day and went grocery shopping for myself, as un-hikki-like as it is and bought a ton of instant ramens.

First one I had was sesame chicken rice ramen, the noodle didn't taste like anything even after adding soy sauce and hot sauce to save it. Broth was still good though. I don't know if I want to fall for the healthy brand meme again.

Yesterday I had one of those BLAZING HOT SPICY WITH SHRIMP ones, don't recall if they have a brand but you see them in bodegas and gas stations often. I've had this one a bunch of times, even if it's not quality stuff it's comforting.

I'll let you all know which one I'll have today when it's lunch time.
