Figured out why there was no transcript for 2007's E3 event: Gallagher decided not to do one once he stepped in as the new president.
ESA prez skipping prE3 address
>A representative with the ESA confirmed for GameSpot, "The decision…not to give a state of the industry speech was based on the extremely tight schedule of the new event, as well as that he so recently joined the ESA."
>The representative did say current plans will have Gallagher giving such an address at next year's E3. As for this year, the E3 Media & Business Summit will run May 11-13 in Santa Monica, California.

I finished the E3 2003 transcript. Some things I thought were memorable.
>If the future of online games is not much clearer than a year ago, one area of the market which is becoming more interesting involves mobile games.
>Two factors are converging to make the cell phone a more promising platform for games. One is that the manufacturers have concluded that games are one of the keys to reviving sales of mobile phones. The second factor is that the business model is becoming clearer. While some mobile games will continue to be free, charging consumers a monthly fee which is shared by the carrier and the game publisher is becoming the norm. This makes mobile games more intriguing to game publishers because they offer a chance to generate a second source of revenue from a single piece of intellectual property, much like the film industry has been able to do for years.
>Clearly, video games are not simply child's play anymore and our industry has no reason to apologize for creating games targeted at the segment of the market where demand is strongest and buying power greatest.
>the issue isn't whether we make licenses or sequels. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with either. The question is whether we innovate and advance the art form.
>And to the extent our future as an industry depends, as I think it does, on continuing to create innovative content, we should be wary of an overdependence on licensed content because this could undermine the originality and creativity so central to innovation. How ironic would it be that after years of aspiring to be as important as the film industry we end up relying on Hollywood for our most successful titles?

I'm still trying to make sense of the general picture here. From what I understand at least, publishers and studios at least the large ones, outsources a lot of stuff and does use imported staff. So they want H1B1s and immigration policy that is favorable to them, that much is obvious. The ESA represents the interests of the publisher as main priority.
Is Hatch's stance consistent with Trump, therefore the ESA talking shit about Trump makes it inconsistent? Not being sarcastic here, I'm trying to understand the scenario.

With a stance like that, you would think the ESA would be glad to have someone like him speak about it (Which they did as I posted.) Unfortunately that's what the industry and many others are trying to push as the definition of gamification is. Sheeit, anyone remember Jane Mcgonigal? There was quite a lot of articles and she was peddling the edutaining type of gamification hard. Granted not every article was buying the premise whole, but it still got a lot of exposure.

Anyways, some recent ESA news. A bill was proposed in Nebraska called The Fair Repair Act which mostly bogged down to giving consumers the right to repair equipment they own such as tractors or game consoles without being at the mercy of the makers. Since the bill's been around in 2016 & VICE out of all people decided to talk about it, take it with a grain of salt. But nonetheless, the ESA, Apple, & others aren't too pleased with the idea.

I meant e-waste as in electronic waste, the actual materials. Even with electronic recyling, that stuff is piling up considering the increasing use of planned obsolescence.
So how about this, since the ESA loves to say 'making the world a better place' usually means social change, and vaguely hinting people should become left leaning progressives. But you know how one of the left's other fixation is environmentalism. Still is I guess but remember Reduce Reuse Recycle, there is a badly missing 4th R in there, Repair. Being able to reasonably repair something used to be a mark of a good design.
So how about asking something like, if the ESA wants to make the world a better place, what is their stance on not making electronics harder to repair. On not making more wastes and pollutants. Since repairing can save energy and materials or preventing an otherwise repairable or servicable item from going into landfill, or improperly recycled in dangerous conditions.

Exactly. All the talk of 'making the world a better place', how about actually putting that in the practical sense. I mean yes, consumer electronics are not really considered heirloom items, and electronics in general relies on people wanting to buy new. I get that.
That doesn't mean everything should be a race to see how much stuff can be made to be disposable.

I think Apple dealing with Foxconn or something like that has something to do with it, I remember something like this in high school where they talked about electronic parts being made in Foxconn & how not only was the place sweatshop-tier awful, but they contributed to pollution because electronic devices were disposable & people threw them away once it was no longer useful.

Especially considering how much they and the industry is pushing for mobile market. I mean again, I know consumer electronic relies on people looking at the newest version and going ooh shiny I want that. I get it, vidya itself is driven by a large part of the allure of 'new'.
But does novelty warrant even shorter cycles of planned obsolescence, and not helping curb but adding to the e-waste problem. Don't you want to, heh, make the world a better place as you love saying, ESA and others?
I'm thinking of that possible angle because it could be a way of showing "here is your words, and here is what appears to be your action," type of deal.
