Canadafag here. I'll try my best to provide context, and state my biases up front. I am not an NDPer, or a Lib, or an official Conservative. I lean towards conservative principles, but I do not support the canadian cons.

Know your opposing forces, this is not an X vs Y battle, there is a 3 party (Liberal, Conservative, and New Democratic Party NDP) battle going on, and be very careful here since none of them are necessarily sympathetic to GG. Don't get ensnared in a battle where you can become an unknowing pawn to a group that does not support GG's ideals, at all.

How it relates to GG, NDP is\was the party that Sarkeesian tried to lobby and peddle her Listen&Believe tour, since many NDP are very SocJus sympathetic or true believers.

BUT! Remember that Justin Trudeau, the #iamafeminist, walking tumblr politician, the one that name dropped GamerGate as a negative? Yeah that guy is a Liberal. And Liberals are also semi SocJus, it's just that the Liberal party are more manipulative for their own ends than outright kool aid drinkers.

IMO this is also a situation where Justin is tripped into a trap of his own making. He did court the tumblr socjus virtue signalling crowd for the Libs, and right now we're seeing the effect when he tastes his own koolaid.

The short story is, the PM grabbed one of the opposition (Conservative) MP, who may or may not have been blocked or stalled by other MPs from the NDP party. In the process of grabbing the opposition MP, the PM elbowed (you can see from the longer video link and judge for yourself) another MP (NDP) in her chest.

The link above has the gist of the parliamentary procedure angle, it is a bit boring and arcane to the point that even politicians themselves are not always aware of it. Liberals are the sitting party of gov't, the Conservatives are the official opposition. NDP is third place.

Below is my own take on it, skip if you don't want to read my personal opinion.

The "elbowgate"name is kind of misleading that it emphasizes the elbow to the NDP MP, while yes, that is bad. The larger point is that the PM did cross a line by striding over and grabbing the opposition MP. Partisans had defended that action early, but it does not change the fact that the PM did not even need to do that from a parliamentary procedure angle. Not to mention that if that situation ever happened in any other workplace, unless you were grabbing a person from say getting hit by a car or such. You could face reprimand or outright fired for workplace violence. And I find it very hypocritical behavior since Trudeau Jr. previously put on a pink shirt and tries to lecture people about "sticks and stones…but words do hurt". See vid link. Trudeau went beyond using words when he physically grabbed another MP in parliament.
