I have a friend in the industry who met Alexander a few times and said she was a colossal asshole who treated everyone like shit and always bragged about how great she was. Alexander was more dangerous than Rapp, who never had the influence Alexander did.
If anything, Rapp was an expendable pawn for the SJW crowd. She was never a part of the inner party and like most outer party figures, once she became a liability, they abandoned her to her fate because, in the end, she no longer had anything to offer the inner party to justify devoting the full force of their resources on helping her.
The only reason I can see Alexander even saying she's no longer writing about games, is that whatever long game she was playing with Vice fell apart. My guess is that even Shane Smith knew she was a cancerous tumor that would slit his throat if it would advance her scheme to stage a coup at Vice worthy of Elsworth Toohey's coup of the Banner, in The Fountainhead.
There is a sharp coloration between Toohey and Leigh Alexander. People like Harris O'Malley and the tech folk at the Guardian who took her word over everyone else regarding Gamergate, at face value, are her Peter Keatings; quisling bitch boys who she molds and use to spread her anti-life philosophy to the masses.
If anything, the elimination of Alexander probably is our biggest success story of Gamergate into terms of tumors we eliminated.
