You can use your computer at home. Install a GNU system such as Trisquel and some SMTP. One of the following should be good:
* Exim
* Postfix
* OpenSMTPD
Most people use either Exim or Postfix. OpenSMTPD is a newer project, but it might be good. I use Exim.
>>1075> then an assclown ddoses your webserver and half of your e-mails drop for a day>> i like setting up postfix but there's just so much that can go wrong once you start using itThat's very hypothetical. And it's not a big deal even if it happens. Email servers keep resending mails that didn't reach their destinations for several days. When they give up they tell the sender that the mail didn't reach. The mails were probably not that important either and nobody will care.

postfix / dovecot
Set it up cleanly at the beginning, because email can be tricky as fuck to administrate. dspam can integrate with dovecot as well if you want a server-side trainable spam filter.
Make sure you require TLS-encrypted IMAP and SMTP auth (dovecot can handle auth for both itself and postfix). You can get a free certificate for your server from the StartSSL kikes or somebody.

cock.li Doesn't appear to be working through Thunderbird with the TorBirdy plugin.
I have tried:
- using the the settings on this page https://cock.li/server
- both "Normal password" and "encrypted password"
- opening a new account in case I typed the password wrong or the account was broken for some reason.
Nothing works. The reason I think the system is completely broken is that the connection fail VERY QUICKLY!
Is TorBirdy working for other people?
Could I have a bad exit node that is rejecting the connection?
I realise that this is an old thread, so if there is a new thread on this topic, I welcome being pointed to it.

Currently use Yandex as my daily driver and for most stuff (it's a Russian company, and I figure Putin can spy on me if he wants to).
I run a separate account on protonmail specifically for all of my financial accounts. I never use this email anywhere else, it's specifically used for my financial stuff.

If ur trying to run Thunderbird over TorBirdy on Linux, you may need to have Tor Browser (Bundle?) open in the background.

Okay but use end-to-end encryption where possible regardless of whether you are directly scared of Putin or not. If you are really doing something meaningful "Putin" or any russian might happily turn you in, in exchange for some concession or tricket. Far fetched but possible. Also Yandex are a big business. They are likely using/aggregating your data. Putin actually encouraged Big Data in a recent address to the nation. He also said in that same speech that he wanted the internet in more schools, (for a bit of extra perspective on Russia).
Be trustless.

Here's a website (in German) that talks about email privacy. Is there a way to translate this site without using Google?

Did not find a translation but found THIS!!!
THUNDERBIRD USERS take heed(?):
You may be connecting via a 128bit encrypted connection, which may be TRIVIAL to crack (see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1176273).
On that same page are instructions to upgrade the encryption to 256bit (512bit would be ideal), which the privacy conscious may want to use, copied below for convenience:
" - bring up the 'Thunderbird Preferences' window,
- On the 'Advanced Tab' click on the 'Config Editor' button
- accept the risk
- search on security.ssl3.
- the first preference in the list is:
---- security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_128_sha (a 128-bit cipher)
- set it to false
- the second preference in the list is:
---- security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_256_sha (a 256-bit cipher)
"with that change in settings, the email server negotiated a TLS connection using the second preference which is a 256-bit cipher.
"It may be advisable to continue setting preferences for ciphers to false until the set suggested in the www.privacy-handbuch.de link above are arrived at. security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_256_sha was not in that list.
"Since I was looking for a more secure cipher, this would probably be a better answer to my question.
"Since I didn't understand the negotiation between the email server and Thunderbird in setting up a TLS connection, I was looking to fix the poor selection of cipher by configuring Thunderbird.
"Since I manage the postfix email server, It appears that better choice is to configure postfix's main.cf to "harden the SSL connection". I will restore Thunderbird to its original configuration and try the postfix settings specified in https://bettercrypto.org/static/applied-crypto-hardening.pdf.
_END OF QUOTE
Some VERY interesting info above. Does anyone here recommend ANY of the 128bit ciphers in Thunderbirds config, anymore?

OP, something to consider:
I used to have an obscure email provider
That company went out of business and I couldn't log into a bunch of stuff anymore. Because every login wants to email you a "verification code" now
Another thing to consider:
I was robbed for my phone a few months ago. I lost access to all accounts that I had 2FA for, because I couldn't see the codes they were texting me.
2FA is a shit, turn it off

Hi fellow Google lovers (lol),
If you want to get away from all things Google then you will be shocked to learn that the reCAPTCHAs you've been doing are actually Google using you to train AI for self-driving cars. Driving is one of the few freedoms in life available today. Googles reCAPTCHA is training AI to take that freedom away from us and to put it in the hands of big tech giants (aka anti-trust criminals). Google's reCAPTCHA system was only mildly creepy when they were using us to digitise old books at risk of being lost forever, but teaching robots to drive and go down chimneys is one step too far. Don't let them do it.
Step 1) Always select the audio option rather than the option to identify objects on the street.
If for whatever reason you must perform the street view reCAPTCHA here's a way to fuck up Google's AI plan but you need to pass this it around to as many people as possible for it to start to work effectively.
When they ask for crosswalks, you need to select heavy vehicles, taxis and markings on the road that are not crossings.
buses? => cars, bushes, traffic lights
cars? => cross walks, traffic lights and fire hydrants.
traffic lights? => bushes (human size or smaller) and dark cars.
taxis? => light coloured cars that are NOT taxis, small bushes, and
motorbikes? => traffic lights, trees, bushes, and crossings
storefronts? => select trees, dark vehicles and windows of tall buildings.
Fire hydrants? == fire hydrant (give them an almost useless fire hydrant detection system)
Bikes? == get this right also (they cannot do much with this alone and might be the ONLY way that you will pass the test)
IF YOU ENJOY SMALL FREEDOMS (and maybe having a future job) PASS THIS ON!
Put it on one other messaging board that you like and email it to one friend (maybe avoid sending it over gmail though, ;)

They *do* support it. They have a beta client you install on your PC, then use that as the jump point for distributing mail to your devices. requries you to buy their pro package. I got a year for like 70 bucks at black friday. normally around 130 I think

Cock.li. Their policies are transparent and they don't act like you won't be handed over to the kikes if shit toughens up. Never trust any email provider claiming absolute privacy, it doesn't work like that. Just follow opsec guidelines, encrypt and sign your mail with pgp and that should hinder feds from spoofing your contacts, even if only a little.

If that were the only problem with reCAPTCHA I wouldn't mind it that much, but reCAPTCHA is pernicious to privacy. Each time a CAPTCHA is solved it will capture/draw your screen as is, and it also tracks you across the Internet. Unfortunately it is employed by a lot websites and even if you block it you will essentially become a second-class user on the Internet.

The contents of the current browser window, I could believe that. But a full screen capture? Even mainstream-tier tech fags like arstechnica would kick up a stink about that. You're going to need to offer up some proof.

Every single email provider available at the moment is shit. They all either require javscript or some sort of verification or quite simply don't actually care about your privacy. The ones that do are likely poorly maintained and will disappear within the next few months.

Captcha is much more insidious than a bot filter
A. it's feeding AI about human user metrics, which allow it to defeat not only every outdated version of itself, it also allows you to defeat other people's bot filters.
CAPTCHA could carry out the mother of all DDOS attacks by feeding the security checks of other filters to CAPTCHA users to solve
B. There is a strong potential that they leak the user IP on third party websites and track users
Is there an open source botfilter that is self learning?
