I totally understand what you're trying to say, but I have a few things to say:

1. you aren't forced to download it from the play store, you can side load it from their own web site

2. most of the stuff you said is conspiracy, signal is mainly for security not necessarily hardcore privacy, if you want hardcore privacy you should use briar or you shouldn't be using the internet at all if you're that serious about privacy

3. signal is planning on rolling out username sign up

No! And Yes! said on their website "Advanced users with special needs can download the Signal APK directly. Most users should not do this under normal circumstances." and force you to look on hashes / verify it! It's like saying would you please go to the Google Play store you stupid user.

Something being founded by the CIA or government enttity doesn't mean it's a honeypot. The government also delivers drinking water, but I assume you don't think the water is backdoored. Tor was originally founded by the US Naval Research Lab, and the Snowden files showed it gives the NSA and other intelligence agencies a hard time. Signal has already shown in court documents that they don't provide much data when ordered to do so.

Overlay networks, when used properly (along side tunneling protocols, relay servers, etc..) can provide anyone optimal security. Cryptography is serious business.

Of course if your running it all accordingly, and then decide to pop open a web browser with a lot of default features enabled then you will most likely leak information. (WebRTC, JS, etc..) You can find out the language locale used on the client's end, or the timezone from metadata. Doesn't take much really..
