I think we'd need to define the concepts clearly to proceed.
In Greek world there was private space, where 'biological' life happened and public space, where bussiness (back then it was usually trading slaves) and politics happened, where e.g. women were not allowed.
In the last century they mix up, but there hasn't been enough time to tell if it's better.
So when it comes to biological survival, raising children, eating, celebrating your sociocultural life - you don't need money, some land with good soil and labour is enough.
But when it comes to the higher layers in the pyramide there is a split. On one side, you can focus inwards and explore the astral. But souls/spirits are so much better at that.
Having been born here, with a physical body, the actual existence in the public sphere, where politics and business hapens is possible - money is the blood of this system.
This world is broken (by design), but I chose to ignore it and do the best thing I believe is right.
And this leads me to this Gordian knot.

>If you metaphorically mean trying to influence society or some such, that's a whole different ball game
How can one HONESTLY live while encountering this destructive information noise everyday?
I am trying to influence it however I can, but the system is just too broken.
I'll go marxist now, but the division of labour, wealth and since last century information are so imbalanced that lack of courage to commit mass suicides is the only thing that keeps it going.
An italian proverb says:
> Chi ha il pane non ha I denti, chi ha I denti non ha il pane.
Meainng:
> Who has bread, doesn't have teeth, who has teeth doesn't have bread.
