More theoretical thought here to start off:

If you had a cup where every car would represent a board, what series and year of racing would you use? I've been playing around with this but I could use more ideas of years/cars/tracks and so on.

The other auto boards here don't move so well to get good answers.

>Toto Wolff: Susie was good enough for F1

>Toto Wolff has described wife Susie not reaching the Formula 1 grid as "a missed opportunity" for the sport, insisting that she was quick enough to compete in the top echelon.

>Wolff, 33, spent three seasons as a development/test driver at Williams, taking part in four practice sessions, before announcing her retirement from motorsport at the end of last year.

>In an interview with the German-language newspaper Tiroler Tageszeitung, Mercedes motorsport boss Toto explained: "As a husband, I'm sorry that she did not get the chance.

>"I'm convinced that, even with the lack of mileage, she would have been good enough for the midfield.

"good enough for the midfield"

kek, high praise there

>"In any case, as part of the Formula 1 paddock, I would have liked to see a woman behind the wheel, because the media would surely have picked it up, even media that have nothing to do with motorsport."

>Summing up, Wolff commented: "This was a missed opportunity."

>Susie recently confirmed that she is setting up an initiative aimed at increasing the number of females involved in motorsport, with the scheme to be launched at this week's Autosport Show.

the first sentence needs a question mark.

Also the speed advantage that an ssd provides I have found is not so immense. true, if you have tons of processes going at one time and thus non sequential read/writes, you could see some benefit.

SSD or no, make sure you disable the paging file or limit it to 800 mb, that will kill an ssd, or just make your shit slow because windows has some obsession with using paging file instead of ram.

And I can see benefits on older pcs or pcs that are not optimized or well maintained, but at the same time I have built pcs for friends and customers both ways.

Generally, with a user who knows how to change how many processes start at boot and what drivers are barebones vs those that are really just a means of getting you to install bloatware, the advantage of mid market ssd versus a good 7200rpm drive with a large cache or a 10000rpm drive is not as vast as people generally make it out to be.

the other thing with the kits, if you know your vehicle (because you've been fixing it forever) you probably know the standardized sizes they used for nailing down literally everything so you end up dragging a zillion useless things up there with you instead of just a 10 a 12 and a 14 (or w/e) I have just two T-handles that I used to do my entire bike with for years when I had a bike

also you need a torque wrench, which isn't in there, and maybe your favorite channel locks or needle nose or something, which isn't in there, and your vacuum hand pump because the hippies made them hook everything to 9000miles of vacuum line, etc. etc. and you end up dragging an extra tray of stuff up anyway

Also,

>For example: Is there any downside to racing in F1?

>“It’s hard to have a girlfriend,” he said with a laugh. “It’s hard to keep a girlfriend happy because of traveling all the time. That’s the only downside you could say, which is not too bad.”

Among the A6 class (basically GT3 with custom BoP) you can find a RS01 with french GT3 homologation, a Porsche 911 GT America from last years IMSA GTD regulation and a Huracan Trofeo from the Lamborghini Cup Series

The A6 class has special regulations where it is subdivided into two different classes (Pro and Am). The differences are quite big and explained in detail in the event regulations starting on page 88 of this pdf (http://www.creventic.com/uploads/files/24hseries/regulations_2016/Sporting_and_Technical_regs_24HSERIES_2016_version_6%20November_2015_APPROVED.pdf). I am sure the rules will also be explained on the live stream by the radio le mans team later on.

>Hamilton describes dating as "kind of nonexistent at the moment. It's been the first year that I've really been single for a long time. All I've done is just thrown myself into work. I work too much; I need to slow down a bit and try to enjoy a little bit more, take some more time for me." He exhales. "I will do it at some stage."

>The current case relates to unpaid monies from the 2014 season, and involves well over $3.5m.

>There is also separate action in progress against Sauber involving the fact that Sutil did not race in 2015.

>In its submissions, Sauber argued that Sutil had underperformed and had been critical of the team, and also claimed that he had promised to help find $40m of sponsorship.

>However, the judge took Sutil's side, and has allowed the case to proceed.

Andrea Sassetti, Ernesto Vita, and Monisha should start a one make racing series where they compete to run the shittiest team possible with identical resources.

I think Kolles isn't actually that terrible, it has more to do with him only getting to run teams once they are in the shitter versus him putting them in the shitter.

Recall that Caterham moved forwards more in the month or so of Kolles than it did in years under Fernandes and Abiteboul.

Also Kolles got force india to where it is today (he got them the technical partnership with mercedes that brought them up the grid from last in the spyker days)

Kolles scouted Sutil and Albers and signed the deal to get ricciardo for HRT.

Finally moved in to the new house today.

>started packing at 8am yesterday

>kept at it until I went to bed at 1am

>got back up at 4am to start again

>load trailer in the rain, got fucking soaked

>left the old house at 7am, to get to the new place by midday

>power window on my car immediately breaks, window stuck halfway

>made it about an hour, then now former housemates car which was towing the trailer decided to do a fucking head gasket, resulting in chronic overheating

>turned around and limped it back, frequently stopping for coolant

>borrowed another car

>transfer everything + trailer to new car

>finally get going again at midday, having already done 250km

>the only fun part of the drive I got followed by an undercover cop car, and had to drive like mexibro's grandma

>finally get to the new place at 6pm

>unload

>fridge doesn't fit in fridge space

>trip over and slam down the crate carrying all my glasses and plates, shitloads smashed

>pull car door apart to drag up window for the night

>got a pizza. it was undertopped as fuck

>power here isn't connected

>I'm sitting in the dark watching my batteries drain

It's been a trying day

On the plus side, I did get revenge on our landlord

>stole a brand new microwave that was stored at the house

>somehow a cane toad made it in to the downstairs bathroom. I shut the door and left it there for him

He's a nice guy, and I genuinely like him, but he was a real dick about the house.

>he lived there with no lease or real estate for 5+ years

>did whatever he wanted with the house, and completely fucked it with mistreatment

>he moves in to a new place, because his wife wants more room for her horses and shit

>we moved in to his old place as a subtenant so he would still have somewhere to park his truck/trailer

>within 3 months he gets booted out of his new place, because it actually has a real estate, and he can't deal with simple rules

>he makes up a bullshit story about how the owner of the house is mad about the condition it's in (because he spent 5+ years fucking it…)

>says the owner is booting everyone out for months of "major repairs"

>has already started moving his shit into the house again before we even left

If he had have just been honest and said he needed to move back in, and that we needed to go, we wouldn't have cared, but to make up some bullshit story that insults our intelligence…

Also only a third place. He failed to improve on it and Suzuki gets the honors as he did it first.

Japanese drivers have a penchant for being inconsistent. Nakajima got a 4th place and fastest lap only seconds behind patrese at Adelaide one year and no one could have seen that coming. I think that was his sole points score that year.

fair point

Yeah in Suzuki's case, despite an inspired drive by him, there was no stopping piquet and moreno that weekend.

Piquet knew he was going to win. "I'm going to fuck everybody" he said before the race, and Moreno drove the spare car with Piquet's setup.

(for those that didnt read it when wagsbro posted it before http://en.f1i.com/magazine/37045-my-biggest-race-roberto-moreno.html/1)

You can tell too if you watch piquet get to second place. He slows down and waits for Mansell to break something on his car, and then the half shaft goes.

if you guys watch that race, you have to watch it with the japanese commentary. Seeing the separate onscreen standings for japanese drivers and bootleg throttle telemetry from suzuki's car coupled with the commentators losing their shit when he gets on the podium is totally worth it.

If it happened at the end of window travel, I might understand. Those motors do have a good amount of torque.

But the weird part is it managed to do it half way down.

Anyway, I managed to get it loose by taking the casing off the motor to give the shaft some room to move, then forced the gear to rotate with a pair of pliers.

Just got to get off my ass now and put it back in the car.

The most annoying part is I bought this motor from the wreckers only a month and a half ago, and it cost 80 frigging dollars.

BMW's were never hugely popular in Brisbane because it's in a bogan (redneck) state, so local parts cost a ton.

In contrast, Melbourne has always been full of immigrants, thus has older BMW's fucking everywhere, so parts there are cheap.

Now that I'm living in a little mountain town of 20,000 people, I won't be able to source anything locally, so I'll just get parts shipped from Melbourne, for about the same I was paying in Brisbane once you factor in shipping. Just have to wait 3 days…

Casuals here didn't watch F1 until Webber came along, who they genuinely believed was the greatest driver in F1, despite him being cucked by Vettel 17 times before breakfast.

Then Ricciardo came along, and beat Vettel, making them forget about Webber very quickly. He is now the greatest driver in F1.

Most wouldn't have even known who Alan Jones was until he became a studio colour host of the local TV coverage (which he is painfully bad at. He makes Crofty seem informed and insightful)

Because from the outside world it seems that V8's is relatively well known in Australia where as in the UK, to me at least, BTCC feels almost dead.

Like the only driver I could see outside of the F1 drivers getting ranked at all would be Colin Mcrae. Maybe Richard Bruns and if it is proper casuals then Jason Plato due to his fame outside of motorsport.

Where as I get the feeling that some casual AUS fans would consider Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes to be near or at F1 level without any practise.

does Ferrari always hype their launches this much? this reminds me of Mercedes' launches in 2013 and 2014 where the cars were massive steps forward and had decent marketing campaigns.

anyways it'll be interesting to see if they go with the 'clit nose' this year. it was pretty notable that the winning cars (W06, SF-15T) last season forwent the supposedly optimum (short) nose. of course that could just be evidence that the works teams have such an advantage that aero need not be 100% optimal. or that the dick and clit noses of the world are chasing the wrong concepts, moreover.

It's certainly easy to say that the works teams have a huge advantage. Much of ferrari's gains this year are from better tire management which may be the work of James Alison (recall that during his time at lotus, the cars were similarly fantastic on tires).

I would imagine that the noses are taking a back seat to sculpted sidepods, little frilly things, and minute changes to the diffuser.

Aero is not getting less important, it's just that it's holistic to the car and changing noses might fuck the synergy with the rest of the components.

Yeah I know that.

I'm just saying the old one I never cleaned it because of being indifferent to it.

I was still in school when I got it and my parents chose it and paid for it.

The new one is the first big purchase I've made with my own money, as an adult, so I feel precious to it.

The closest thing is my Fanatec wheel and pedal set which I make sure I clean because those foot pedals can get bad being near the floor and under the desk.

The main problem is that my room is tiny. Like I can put both arms out and touch opposite walls.

And so where my PC currently is is right next to my clothes.

And I have a cheap ikea rug on top of cheap carpet (Before you start the PC will not be built in this room near this rug which generates static like a bitch) with cats who like to scratch the shit out of it getting hair everywhere.

>SSD or no, make sure you disable the paging file or limit it to 800 mb,

This is fucking horrible advice. A program will always ask for more memory than it will actually foresee itself using to make sure it doesn't run out of memory later and freezes. Windows will use the pagefile for this commitment and then utilize RAM for what is actually written.

In other words, even if it says the pagefile is so-or-so large nothing has actually been written to disk unless you are actually out of RAM; what it shows is in practice how much space has been promised as available to running programs.

This means that if you have no pagefile Windows will be forced to use RAM for all that as well, meaning locking up large portions of RAM that's never actually used just to satisfy its guarantees to running programs.

TL;DR: Keep the pagefile (on a standard drive if you are paranoid) and buy more RAM instead if the pagefile ever has to actually be used.

Yeah there are better ways to handle things that aren't passive aggressive.

by contrast this actually happened to me TLDR QARNING :

>walk outside

>there is something in the grass in front of my door

What trash is that? it almost looks like… it is a pair of panties.

>inspect

>they are small and say Barbie all over them in print

Where did these come from?

>look around

>nobody

>assume they belong to one of the little girls who live next door, or to one of their friends since they all come tearing through my yard sometimes

Oh. What am I supposed to do in this situation?

Should I just leave them? But then I'd have little girl panties just sitting in front of my door. Anyone who walks by will see them. They are bright pink and white, they stand out. When the mail-persyn comes she will be suspicious because she knows I live alone and get strange shipments from Japan marked "health items".

Should I pick them up? And hang onto them just in case? Because maybe the girl will come back for them? Or what if the parents of the little girl notice she came home without panties? As you do. They will probably ask her, "Hey little girl, where are your panties?" and she will point and say "I left my little girl panties in front of the neighbor man's house, right there." And then I will have some parents at my house looking for little girl panties. When they knock on my door I would need to have their little girl's panties ready to hand over. Which… do I put them in a ziplock?

Maybe I could put them in a bag with a note on them and leave them on the doorstep. And rather than "CONTENTS: ONE PAIR OF LITTLE GIRL PANTIES" Something coy like "Did you lose these?". Except there are upcycle shits amd just plain homeless people in the neighborhood who go through the trash and they would probably see and steal the bag. And then when parents come I will have to explain that I lovingly folded their precious daughter's panties into a bag and left it out but I think some strange people took them and now they are being used as a handkerchief by a meth addict.

I guess I could go knock at my neighbor and ask. "Hi, Mr. Smith? Are these your daughter's panties?" Maybe not. Also I don't know which neighbor. As they all play together it could be from one of the little girls far up the street.

Fuck this, I am just going to go back inside. Is that… rain?

>it starts to rain

>wet little girl panties stuck to the ground outside

Fantastic.

>shit comes up with work, have to leave suddenly

>in a hurry, leave

>come home later

>panties still there

Well fuck.

>go inside and make food

>hear little girls tearing through the yard

>pop head out

Hey!

>they all stop

>suddenly realize I haven't thought this through how I am going to ask if any of them are missing panties

>recognize one of the older girls (like 10) is there

>good, I can just be an adult and deal with this forthrightly

>sort of point in the direction of the wet filthy little girl panties stuck next to my house

(to eldest) Do you… know anything about those?

>she walks over and inspects the panties

>looks at me funny

>"They aren't mine."

>runs off immediately

B-but I was gonna ask if you know which girl wears panties like th- oh, never mind. Wait, what?

>Why would she think I am asking if she left her own… why would she need to come examine and- I just made a girl look at some dirty panties didn't I.

Mega.

>pick up panties with a stick, put them in a paper bag and throw them in trash

…even more days later:

>"Now I know it was all for nothing. I had given up everything, including our baby, to support his rise to the top. But once he was there he just cast me aside."

>As Button was preparing for today's Spanish Grand Prix with the BMW Williams team, Kimberley told how she:

>Believed she would spend her life with the F1 sensation despite his warnings that an early baby had no place in his plans;

>Faced her NHS abortion without her lover - instead he stayed driving in Spain;

>Felt stunned six months later when Button announced he no longer wanted a serious girlfriend and

>Hoped for a reconciliation when she agreed to drive his mother to the British Grand Prix - only to be coldly snubbed again.

It gets better

>Kimberley told of the fateful day last September when she realised she might be pregnant and bought a testing kit.

>She said: "I took it home and asked a friend to come over. When the line began to turn blue I was numb.

>"I knew Jenson would not stick by me. It was always made clear to me that his career came first and that if I had a baby, things would not work for us.

>That night the frightened teenager phoned Button, who was abroad.

>She said: "I was crying and blurted out, I'm pregnant'. Part of me hoped he would be pleased, but the first thing he said was, "Are you going to keep it?'"

It's not bad, the musicianship is still good, but I can see how it would disappoint to see a band life performing worse when the novelty of seeing them live wears off.

There is a lot of interest in classic rock and especially progressive rock and metal for people who didnt find their dad's record collection. Leads me to believe it's more about exposure than taste.
