When Prost finally got past Burger after 54 laps, he immediately starting doing fastest laps, some two seconds a lap faster than Burger. Senna then responded to Prost's pace, did a fastest lap of his own, then stuffed it in the wall.

Suzuka 1989 comes to mind in terms of Prost encouraging Senna to use up his tires and chase, only to be unable to pass on the straights due to the differing downforce levels, leading to that really "ambitious" overtake attempt. Italy 1991 had a good video (albeit with pushy annotations from an avowed Hamilfag) about how Patrese+Mansell pushed Senna hard enough to require an extra stop but I can't find it on youtube.
Instead take as evidence their fastest laps: 19 for Senna v. 41 for Prost

Those people must be retarded.
When f1 was v10 only (which is a stupid Mosley era rule, he also mandated that engines had to have a minimum weight) the Ferrari was dominant because of Schumacher and because of good design synergy between the engine and chassis. The Renault engine had the lowest center of gravity, the BMW had the most power, its not as if 3 liter engines automatically put the prancing horse on top, especially as there was more than one way to have a good engine.

>A few months ago I was at the Gowran Festival of Speed. I was invited there to put on an Autotesting display to help promote our struggling sport and Freddie Hunt was also in attendance driving his father James Hunt's Hesketh F1 car out on track.
