For kinks, I really enjoy Impregnation, and mind-breaking, and that's something I enjoy. And it's really one of those things, sometimes I like story, sometimes I just want a one shot, which makes this a little difficult. It really is just a thing of, I used to do a lot of ERP, but it has been years and I just want to have fun doing this again. If I had a real "Why are you doing this?" I'd say it's because I have to get rid of all these eggs. That's an old joke. The real reason is, I wanna get other people off, get off myself, and most-important is just have fun and practice writing in a way that's fun for me.

Listen fam, it's smut-writing, not an interview or any of that jazz. The first thing you need to work on is your anxiousness and your desire to please. We all have them in one form or another but the former is easy to sniff out and it puts a lot of stress on your profile to deliver and generate thirst while the later will easily lead to people taking advantage of you. Not even intentionally at times, it's just how the userbase unfortuanetly. Autists and socially stunded individuals galore, most of them incapable of even caring for their own well-being let alone that of their partners. With a mindset like this you will inevitably get burned bad so you need to realize that your personal enjoyment comes first and foremost. That of your partner is secondary even if trailing very close behind. Don't sell yourself out or undervalue yourself or this site is liable to eat you alive.
Now as for the profile, being anxious and all can be cute if albeit briefly. It depends on the person you're talking. Most will find it annoying and irritating if someone acts like that around them, especially if its an obvious self-insert. Personality makes or breaks how people view you and if that fails, they default to the profile. Unfortuanetly for you F-List is incredibly visual based nowadays with profiles and if yout personality fails and your profile can't pick up the slack majorly? You'll end up shit creek without a paddle with a lot of partners that can type more than 5 sentences.

Hope some of these help. It's extremely rare that a hub profile does well, I can't think of a single hub who's popular/spoken well of on this site. F-list however is much more forgiving which is why I suggest this compromise of 'a sort of hub'.

The AI thing sounds really interesting, I think maybe that is a good place to start off. Just sitting and hashing it out in my head, I think maybe having it be something like a Generation Ship, where it just has a lot of genetic material, and existed before FTL, then when FTL was invented, it was retro fitted with it. It acts as … whatever a ship does, but when it gets passengers of boys or girls, or fourth meal, it goes "Oh, part of this trip, if you read the fine print is that I have to collect your genetic material. For Reasons." and then proceeds to either seduce passengers or just fuck them. Maybe stuff with cloning vats, or humanoid bodies with the AI implanted inside a meat shell, controlling the person?
That seems like it might be a really fun thing to flesh out, to be a ship, but also, individual beings.

I'd say most people actually play a self insert to some degree, the exceptions being canon characters that stick to canonical attitudes and shit. Just don't make your character a boring perfect character with big muscles, tons of cash, and give him some personality and you'll be fine. Trust me, that's how most people start and everyone ends up getting better. There's leeway if you're actually looking to play a female though, pussy's in higher demand than cock, I've seen self insert pinks get plenty of play, just don't expect to get anything good unless a decent partner decides to fuck you.

Right now I want you to imagine the three biggest kinks you have. Go through the kinks list and fave them (kinks are divided into sections in the edit screen so you don't need to worry about reading page after page of useless kinks). Make a custom for one or two of those big kinks of yours where you go into detail on it, mention what you like, or what you'd like to do with that kink, get raunchy and describe shit about that kink, etc. Repeat the same for your Yes kinks section, these should be kinks you enjoy but aren't as appealing as the faves. Now do the same with the maybes, this is reserved for kinks you're curious or willing to try. Now the hard nos it's even easier, think of the stuff you'll never wanna do and put them down.
I like to add in at least 10 or so kinks to all four categories and 3-5 customs for each category where I wanna highlight a certain kink. Oh and don't check everything. If you're not into vore for example, all you need to do is make a custom saying no vore, or check one vore custom into your nos, no need to put every single vore related kink in it as well, people tend to get the picture.

Ok, so basically there's a couple of things:
1. Don't muscle into groups if they don't respond to you from the first try. Test the ice and then leave well enough alone.
2. Read profiles before doing IC actions and stuff so you can get a bead what your chances are of them being interested in your character OOCly. If they are, they're more likely to reciprocate and play along.
3. Cliques absolutely exist, but some are relatively inclusive on occasion while others are completely walled off groups that ignore everyone else. Chances are that people you see talking in a channel already know each other but if you end up playing with one them interacting with you publicly can snowball into others giving you a chance too.
Number one advice beyond all others is to be clear about your intents and read the god damn profiles -before- doing shit. That solves a lot of issues that newcomers often fall into. If there is no information on a profile, like it's literally just an avatar without a description or kinks then tread carefully and watch them for a while instead of trying your luck. You'd think this would just be for PMs, but it also helps to stick to these principles in public channels even if they're not nearly as serious as private RP/chatter.

Only a couple of morons take channel RP super seriously all the time – like it's one thing if it evolves into something more serious and you start swapping proper posts with someone but with more idle and relaxed emoting changing the way your character is to make things more fluid is not only understandable but I'd encourage it.
Reason being if your character is a tight-ass or some superpowerful dude (not saying yours is a Sue or anything but just as an example) then it's going to be a killjoy to others being IC because now they gotta deal with your ass when they'd rather just chill. If they want the real experience then they can come and talk to you in private or you can allude to it with dialogue like "Maybe in another time and place I won't be so lax." You get what I mean, right?

I did decide to go with the sci-fi tag! I'm doing something a little strange with this character, but trying to hit a wide base, so that I can have a variety of interactions and stories, with a wide set of characters. I've already got something set up, that's practically a /clang/ event where they're going to fuck my robots. The people seem nice, and I think it's going to be a lot of fun.
