Ebola-chan has returned to us in all of her glory! A new outbreak has arisen in the democratic republic of Congo with as many as 85 total cases. One of which was in the city of mbandaka. Approximately 80 miles away from the first case, with an estimated population of 1.2 million.

The WHO is now focusing all their efforts on stopping Ebola from spreading further and are concentrating on Mbandaka. Sending 4,000 doses of an experimental vaccine that will be given to those who have been in contact with someone who has Ebola. In addition, today on 18 may 2018, WHO will also have an emergency meeting to determine whether this outbreak is one of international concern or not to help determine how they should respond further.

Now dont worry. Ebola-chan cannot be stopped by these paltry efforts. Mbandaka is a poor city, with many if not most of its residents lacking running watermost use personal wells or the river that also serves as a toilet for their drinking waterand electricity. Even its hospitals lack electricity most of the time and must make due with generators. The vaccines that are being deployed must remain between -60 and -80 degrees Celsius to remain effective. Given the state of the infrastructure there I believe it likely that at least some of the vaccines will be damaged or rendered ineffective by electrical failure or mishandling of them.

Secondly if the WHO decides against declaring an international emergency, (the reasoning behind this would be to prevent panic from spreading)then they will not receive enough aid or other support to stop Ebola from spreading. And since Mbandaka rests on a major river thatconnects to several other ebola-host nations and major cities, this outbreak will soon spiral out of their control. The cherry on top of all this is that the WHO as well as the DRC have NOT halted trade or travel to and from the DRC and its neighbors. Ebola-chan shall soon spread across the globe!

As of today there are now 45 cases of Ebola either confirmed, suspected or probable with 25 deaths. The WHO organization however has not deemed this an international emergency. It shall be their folly. They believe their rapid response so far will be enough to stop Ebola-chan from spreading. With 7500 doses of the vaccine and an additional 300,000 doses expected soon I myself wouldnt hit the panic button just yet. However I know something will go wrong here the vaccine requires a temperature between -60 and -80 degrees Celsius. Far colder than most freezers. So they will require specialized storage to remain effective. This I feel is where the first issue shall come up. The second issue will be with the vaccine itself, they took a virus harmless to humans and attached a small amount of Ebola-chans DNA to it to trigger an immune response in humans. However the trial for this vaccine was at the end of the 2014 outbreak when there were few cases remaining and its testing period was cut short. Allegedly due to overwhelming effectiveness. Though I am skeptical of this point. They will not however deploy any doses until Sunday or Monday next week. By the time they do deploy the vaccines I know it will have spread further than they believed possible. Mark my words something is different with Ebola-chan this time. I dont know if she has sprouted wangs yet but something is different here.

It's because we've been vigilant and have continued to praise our goddess even in her dormant state. We are the old guard, the apostles who foresaw her coming and waiting with bated breath. It makes me so pleased that my waifu, my goddess, would send us such a clear message mere days after I posted the newest article on her, mere weeks after commissioning her sigil to be marked as one of her chosen. It is my hope that Ebola-chan's love will spread throughout the whole world so that all may know her love and those who are chosen shall continue to survive and spread her love to others. Through pestilence and death, we find renewal and new life born from the ashes of society that has condemned her. Even us faithful will be blessed with her love one day, and some of us will not survive as we brace her one last time, but for now we must continue to spread her love to the unfaithful and to the non-believers so that they might know her love and spread it themselves whether through fear of the unknown or through love! I'll be making my papercraft Ebola-chans soon enough to spread in shrines throughout my region so that her love might go further. Repeat after me, anons…

I love you, Ebola-chan!

It appears that while their response has been rapid so far it will not be enough to stop Ebola-chan. Apparently this outbreak went unnoticed for a at least a month before WHO was informed and could respond. The true number of cases could be up to a hundred. Any screening done now will playing catch-up with anyone who travelled to Kinshasa or Brazzaville. I will keep my eyes on the news and my hopes high and report any further updates.

46 CASES AS OF 5/20/18

>Twenty-six people have lost their lives as a result of the Ebola outbreak that has been plaguing the Democratic Republic of Congo since the beginning of the month, reports Global News.

>the Ebola epidemic was first detected on May 8, the virus has already spread to the urban area, making its way into the city of Mbandaka

>first detected on may 8, the virus had already spread to the urban area

>Our current estimate is we need to vaccinate around 8,000 people, so we are sending 8,000 doses in two lots,” Peter Salama, WHO’s deputy director-general for emergency preparedness and response, said in a statement.

>"In our experience, for each confirmed case of Ebola there are about 100-150 contacts and contacts of contacts eligible for vaccination"

>Congolese health officials are currently trying to locate more than 500 people suspected of having come into contact with the disease.

>The other issue is, we are now tracing more than 4,000 contacts of patients and they have spread out all over the region of northwest Congo, so they have to be followed up and the only way to reach them is motorcycles,” said Salama.

As many of you are reading now. There are now 46 cases(confirmed, probable and suspected) and 26 deaths from this outbreak. And now they are trying to use a vaccine to stop Ebola-chan. Their efforts are wasted. They are far far too late with this. Had this been done on may 8th or 9th or even the 10th it might have worked. But it is now the 20th who knows how many were infected by these new cases before they developed symptoms? In addition to this they are still attempting to track down 500 individuals who have or are believed to have had contact with Ebola. To add a cherry on top of this they now have to track down 4,000 contacts of patients and follow up with them. And most of these have spread across the northwest region of the Congo *and can only be followed up by motorbike*

They have already lost control. They just dont know it. If I may be bold to say so but there are probably at least a dozen cases of Ebola in Mbandaka that dont even know it.

The total number of cases (confirmed, probable, and suspected) has reached 49.

Now the vaccine is being deployed, however it seems that they so far only have 100 contacts registered to take the vaccine and it will take 5 days to administer. This is excellent news. A mere 100 people is next to nothing. They must get consent from each individual before they can vaccinate them. This takes valuable time that Ebola-Chan can use to spread.

I think they put too much faith in this vaccine of theirs.

Now I could be wrong here but I think I see a flaw with this vaccine. Since it only uses a single protein gene of Ebola, is it possible for Ebola to simply mutate and lose this gene?

We have hit 50 cases of Ebola as of today!

WHO has so far vaccinated 33 healthcare workers as well as some individuals in Mbandaka. But just like we all knew when they announced this vaccine, there is a problem with it, it takes 7 to 10 days before an individual is made immune. Ebola can make someone sick in as little as two days. Their celebrations are premature. It makes me wonder where the next case will pop up.

Unfortunately the vaccine is proving effective. Fortunately that is only the case if it can be kept cold, and as somebody with minor experience in African medical logistics this is no guarantee. Just keeping thing at standard refrigerator temperature is a problem on the continent. Right now Western nations are handling the cold chain, but once they leave Africans in charge of the vaccine cold chain effectiveness will drop. No new cases since the 8th, however we are still within the incubation period so there is still hope.

Ebola, like many viruses, was named after a river near an early outbreak. This of course is the Ebola River in the Ebola River Valley, near where the first documented Ebola outbreak began (not the real first one in Sudan. The first one in the DRC that was called Ebola.)

You guys know that Ebola outbreaks have happened every couple of years since the 70's, right?

Don't ban me. I think Ebola is really cool. I have an autistic obsession with it and I work near it every day. But I'm not personifying it in a cult-like way.

Wonderful news everyone! It's possible up to 1,500 people have been exposed to Ebola. There have been 44 deaths thus far and 78 confirmed infections. Not to mention there will be several areas that will be inaccessible due to the militias. This is going to be exciting!

Update:

The number of cases is believed to have risen to 96 with deaths up to 55. The WHO chief paid a visit to the area and said he was 'actually more worried after the visit than before' even going so far as to ask the over 100 different groups to cease hostilities. In addition while this outbreak is also of the Zaire strain just like the previous outbreak the WHO deputy director of emergency preparedness and response revealed it is genetically different. hopefully different enough for the vaccine to be ineffective

http://archive.is/VFdQ6

The number of possible contacts has been lowered to 1,609 rather than 2,157. In addition to this healthcare in the region has now been made free for the next 3 months in an effort to get people to come forward for treatment.

Given that many areas where cases are possible are war zones as well as the fact this area borders Uganda I'm thinking that ebola-chan will eventually hop the border.

That would be huge. Not just because of China's massive population, but also because the Chinese love to nuke everyone and everything with class III & IV antibiotics. This could potentially lead to the emergence of a Super Ebola that would be resistant to these. It's happened before with other viruses that they over-treated for.

Aye. There's something called virostatica.

They function is a variety of ways, all aimed at suppressing a virus in it's function. Some prevent it from infecting cells, some prevent it from replicating inside one, some prevent it from breaking out ect.

Now of course this goes down the same road as all things do, resistances pop up. HIV treatment is exactly this group of medication and we all know how friends love their med-resistant aids.

The end effect is the same as with antibiotics: The entire place becomes a petri dish for rapid evolution because the pathogen has to be effective against everything at once, but once it is there's no easy way of stopping it. Quarantine is a way and I would trust China to actually pull that off.

Meanwhile in not-retardland you don't play your hand and always have a weapon. Or would have, but that's slowly eroding.

Update:

The number of deaths has risen to 61 and I am pleased to report the number of confirmed and probable cases has risen above 100 to 103 total. With the number of casss and deaths rising daily the Response of Who and other health organizations must be rapid and total in order to stop the spread of Ebola.

Fortunately the region where this outbreak started is prone to violence between over 100 different militia groups which has created several different "red zones" where medical personnel cannot operate. In addition to this There are over a million displaced in the area. Helping to make one of the most densely populated areas in the country.

To combat these red zones the WHO is working with the DRC army to temporarily secure some areas in order to treat patients. Despite this there are still grave concerns about Ebola spreading and crossing the border.

Update:

There are now 105 confirmed and probable cases and 67 deaths. One of the newly confirmed cases is from a doctor residing in Oicha. The city itself is not a red zone, however all of the roads and surrounding territory is occupied by the Ugandan militia group allied democratic forces making getting to the city without military escort nearly impossible. In total there have been about 2900 vaccinations. Uganda has implemented protective measures to prevent Ebola-Chan from spreading to Uganda. So far they’ve not found anything but they are playing it safe. It will likely be another week or two before they figure out if their efforts have been enough or if Ebola is still spreading.

GOOD LUCK EBOLA-CHAN

It is no coincidence /ebola/ won the games at the same time as a new outbreak is rapidly growing in the DRC. This one is going to be a big one. So far there are 107 probable and confirmed cases in this newest outbreak and 70 deaths https://archive.fo/152L6. We know from the previous outbreak that in ring vaccination, where contacts and contacts of contacts are traced and immunized, a single ring can be anywhere from 100 to 150 people. https://archive.fo/oT7dJ in the previous outbreak this was used to great effect and was successful in ending it. However this outbreak takes place within a region of the country where frequent fighting by armed militant groups has left one million people displaced and created multiple red zones where medical personnel cannot enter without escorts. https://www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/national/health-science/ebola-outbreak-now-at-105-cases-and-bordering-countries-are-on-alert/2018/08/24/3b7a58a2-a7c2-11e8-a656-943eefab5daf_story.html?noredirect=on

This makes ring vaccination much more difficult in certain areas as some individuals are currently in refugee camps or red zones. Assuming the number of cases currently reported is the total number of those infected on earth there are approximately 16,050 individuals who would need the vaccine assuming there is no overlap. On the 24th there were approximately 3000 vaccinations done with 400-600 additional vaccinations done daily. So by the end of today, August 27th there could be anywhere from 4,200 to 4,800 vaccinations. Still a far cry from the maximum number of contacts.

GOOD LUCK EBOLA-CHAN

Some studies have shown that Europeans seem to have a greater proportion of people who's genes allow them to have a resistance to it. Anywhere between 10% and 25%. This isn't unique to Europeans though, the people of Gabon also have around 15% resistance to Ebola so it's not exclusive to whites, they just happen to be a part of the few groups who won the genetic lottery when it comes to having a natural immunity to Ebola.

If you're not immune, but manage to survive infection, you will be immune from that point onward, so in that respect I suppose it makes you stronger. As a curious side effect, one of the doctors who contracted and survived Ebola temporarily had his eye colour changed from blue to greenish-yellow, the same shade as Ebola-chan's. This was recorded long after the character was made too. One of the many interesting coincidences surrounding Ebola and her memetic potential.

270b08 No.29840

Update: there are now 115 confirmed and probable cases of Ebola in the DRC as well as two confirmed cases within the yellow zoned city of Oicha. There have been 77 deaths. The response to this outbreak is much more difficult than before due to community resistance, conflict within the region, and the rapid spread of the disease. While the number of new cases has decreased in recent days the inability of health organizations to regularly access the so-called red zones prevents them from saying the situation is stabilizing. If so much as a single infection was missed the out break could spiral out of control. There have been 4,500 vaccinations completed and 17 successful treatments of patients. This outbreak has the potential to be “the worst in recorded history”

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA IT'S FUCKING HAPPENING

thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/405395-ebola-outbreak-in-congo-spreads-to-new-city

>Ebola outbreak in Congo spreads to new city

>An outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in two eastern provinces of Congo has spread to a major international trading hub with almost a million residents, Congolese health officials said Wednesday.

>Health officials in Butembo, a city with close links to neighboring Uganda, said they had confirmed that a man who died at Butembo University Hospital had tested positive for the virus.

>The Congolese health ministry said the man had contact with an Ebola patient in Beni, a city about 25 miles north of Butembo where almost two dozen Ebola victims have been identified, before fleeing south.

>The health ministry said it had prepared the hospital staff to deal with potential Ebola cases. Ndjoloko Tambwe Bathe, who is heading the response for the Congo health ministry, traveled to the city on Wednesday to set up a full response team. The ministry is setting up an Ebola treatment unit, the fifth established in the region since the outbreak began.

>The most recent outbreak of the Ebola virus began in July in North Kivu Province, home to about 8 million residents and about a million internally displaced refugees. So far, health officials have identified 129 probable and confirmed cases. Eighty-nine people have died.

>Most of those cases have been in the Mabalako health district, where the first cases were reported in late July after a funeral for a woman in the town of Mangina. Several relatives who attended the funeral, who probably washed and dressed the woman’s body to prepare her for the afterlife, later came down with symptoms.

>Several probable and confirmed cases have been identified in neighboring Ituri Province, north of North Kivu.

>Public health officials had already been worried about the spread of the virus once it reached Beni, a city of about a quarter million residents that also has close trade ties to Uganda. Now that it has reached Butembo, those officials said, their fears have grown.

<“Good news is case detected quickly, response already in place & expanding,” Peter Salama, the World Health Organization’s deputy director-general for Emergency Preparedness and Response, wrote on Twitter. “Bad new[s] is increases risk of further spread, and having Ebola in an urban centre makes ending the outbreak much harder.”

>In the weeks after the outbreak began, global public health officials and nongovernmental organizations have raced hundreds of epidemiologists and technicians and millions of dollars in relief aid to the region. Those officials had identified at least 4,300 people who had come into contact with someone infected with the Ebola virus, and more than half of those people remain under watch in case they develop symptoms.

>Public health officials also worried that the security situation in North Kivu Province would hinder their ability to track down those who had come into contact with Ebola patients. Ethnic violence and attacks from Islamist guerrillas based in Uganda made some of that critical contact-tracing far more difficult.

>In an interview last week from Beni, WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic said contact tracers were largely confident that they had identified virtually all of those who could potentially become infected.

<“The feeling is that we have, in Mangina, the resources. It seems the cases that are coming are coming from the contacts, which is a good sign,” Jasarevic said. He said the WHO teams had been able to access all the villages where Ebola cases might be present.

>The Congolese Health Ministry said a vaccination campaign that has been underway for weeks had already reached 6,343 people, including more than 3,000 in Mabalako, almost 2,000 in Beni and more than a thousand in Mandima. Front-line health care workers and those who might come into contact with an Ebola victim get the highest priority for the new vaccine.

>This is the second Ebola outbreak this year in which the new vaccine has been deployed. The vaccine, developed during the waning days of an Ebola outbreak in the West ebola-host nations of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, was earlier deployed to Equateur Province, a region about 750 miles west of North Kivu.

<None of those who received the vaccine in Equateur subsequently fell ill.

>Since the Ebola virus was first discovered in 1976, there have been 14 confirmed outbreaks, mostly in Congo — or, as it was then known, Zaire. The outbreak in West Africa killed more than 11,300 people, by far the deadliest of any epidemic. The latest outbreak is already the ninth-deadliest of its kind.

After refusing vaccinationa woman fled from the city of Beni and now has died in a hospital close to the Ugandan border. Who knows how many people she came into contact with between Beni and the hospital?
