i think the issue can be put more like a lot of doomers are waiting for the purpose to come to them. maybe i'm wrong, i don't know. i chased the higher standard all my life, unsuccessfully, not because i would be such a good-for-nothing trash, but simply because i wanted to reach ideal in every aspect of life. hardest part was to learn how to accept myself as who i am and then see what my reachable possibilities are. it's maybe defeatism but i don't see it that way.

When I was young I was FAST. Probably not Usain Bolt fast, but something like Lionel Messi fast or Septathlon fast, in other words good enough to try and become an olympian. Ending up being the case that most athletes, when asked whether they wanted to stay or leave the EU, most of them were pro-remain.
I do agree. "Discipline" and health sure would've been nice. "Merely living", even living well, is more than enough for many. Do not think either that "running faster than other people" is a worthless pursuit; pushing human machinery to multiple extremities and limits goes somewhat toward satisfying human intrigue.
But know this: If I'd have been an athlete, and I'd have pushed to "remain" in the EU, then I'd have helped to condemn my countrymen to slavery and extermination. Even if that is only to a small degree, I find that level of ignorance to be equally unacceptable, or equally "one wasted life".
I could still wind up being a healthy failure or an unhealthy dead one but at least I did not in my ignorance destroy
