Couldn't have said it better myself, OP. You notice a lot of these boomers are fucking assholes and self-entitled? You also notice they don't apply the same values like hit each other yet they'll hit you (your parents) causing you to think that's a good way to keep everyone else (siblings, peers, strangers, etc.) in line? I hate people, about 9/10 I don't care for; this fucking virus is babyshit and is overblown.

I'm not convinced that we love our children more than we seem to love financial security and profit. I'm absolutely certain that billionaires don't. But after working in a pediatric inpatient psych unit, and seeing how oir society treats the most vulnerable children in our country, I would honestly be surprised if this variant killing children made any difference in how we respond now, versus how we responded last year with the original virus. It makes me really sad to think that way, but all the evidence I've seen shows that we don't really value children as much as people publicly claim to. Its mostly just virtue signaling and talking points, not action-oriented. Children basically have no human rights at all. Most people as adults are actually fucked up because of unhealed childhood trauma. Children have no agency, they are coerced, brainwashed, controlled and undereducated, often under-nurtured, underfed, and not listened to or validated. When they act like completely normal kids, and are energetic and curious, we pathologize and medicate them into submission to make them sit still and make them easier to manage. When we cut funding for social programs in order to fund more corporations, environmental destruction and war, the very first to go are programs for children who can't (and shouldn't have to) work to improve their life prospects. We have a freaking school-to-prison pipeline meant to groom children into literal slaves in cages as adults. Certainly not all children are treated the same. Some are privileged but even then their agency and safety are tenuous at best. We have even let pedophilia become such an engrained part of our culture that most children have experienced some kind of harassment, abuse or exploitation by the time they are adults, and the most popular porn themes are barely-legal and incest. Our concern over the wellbeing of children is mostly lip-service. What I do think might happen, is that we adults will finally see without a doubt the depths of our collective depravity for what it is, and will have to stop pretending that we value any human lives at all, including children – OR we'll make some kind of radical shift. The children after all, are the ones who will suffer most from collapse and they can't do a damn thing about it. The biggest stereotype thats never debunked (and it should) is the idea that youth is Eden.

Its the idea that children and young adults dont deserve sympathy or acknowledgement of universal suffrage just bc theyre "not old enough to pay bills".

I notice that adults can whine a out mundane things online and get immediate sympathy. If a teen whose being bullied or just having a hard time fittting in vents their troubles, immediate attack.

Ive never believed in the idea that kids were cartoon characters. Ive always thought of children as worldly, naive and curious, with waning innocence.

Innocence is a liability and its not a good indicator of morality.

Imo, we need to stop euphemising the world to children.

We need to teach children about the absurdities of the adult world. Kids already have a hunch that their elders arent as mature or integral as they fancy themselves but adults are too chickenshit to admit it.

We need to abolish liability laws concerning children bc they do more harm than good.

Kids shouldnt be forced to go to school. They should be allowed to work instead. First world countries have the best conditions for working in, so why block off children from working?

Why force them to be unwillingly dependent on mommys wallet?

If anything, I think schools should teach kids survival skills. Abolish liberal arts. Or at least, reduce it to grade five/six.

Humans see marriage and procreation as big shiny sports trophies to show iff to the world that they "made it."

Most people dont teach their kids anything. All they do is dump the kids on schools and doctors to "fix." Most people I know are closer to their treachers and coaches than their own parents. How many parents sit down and tell their kids about relationships, finances, jobs, driving etc?

Most parents think their kids are "too young" to learn about practical skills. They think that smothering kids with academics will keep them on the straight and narrow. You cam see it with new programs being introduced where schools can interefere with kids personal lives.

This is causing adulthood to be delayed.

People nowadays are procreating past fertility, enteeing the job market later, losing basic life skills, etc.

This. The only time adults really "care "about children is when the adults view their own past selves.

Hence why people always say "kids these days".

Adults cannot/will not see kids as social-physical individuals.

We even have age appropiation, an artificial social expectancy of what kids like/ know at certain ages. Most of it is based off of individual anectedotes. (("When I was your age..")

Adults seem to like keeping children and young adults as cartoonish simplistic puppies for the sake of innocence.

God forbid that kids develop advanced tastes such as fashion or money. God forbid kids become cynical or develop worldly-awareness.

Adults waste time and money to cover up the world to the youth so that they will remain "innocent/docile" so that parents can feel "in control".

People complain modern siciety is youth-oriented, but the past couple centuries have shown that young people have lost their social-legal rights. Teens used to be adults, working and getting their own spouses. But now, 17 - 21 is "too young" for narriage.

Society gets offended over young people dating older people, smoking, drinking, having riches, having geniune discriminatory practices, or working heavily industrious jobs.

It all goes back to the fact that adults are selfish idealists that want to smother their failed dreams onto the youth so they accuse the youth of cowardice/sloth, and raise the age of majority.

as someone who struggles w/ mental health I am so fucking sick of the culture of mental health and forgiveness at all costs. people will literally commit heinous crimes and be like "oops! bad mental health day!!" I just saw a tik tok of a mom who was like "i beat my kid this morning and told her she was annoying and then silently drove her to preschool without hugging or kissing her and I didn't walk her to her classroom. being a mom is so hard on your mental health we all slip up!!" and all the comments were girlbosses being like "IT'S OK MAMA WE ALL DO IT" like… ok so we're just blaming child abuse on a bad day?

Typically it happens when the child doesn't meet the narcissistic ego needs of the parent, so the parent just sort of does the bare minimum for the kid, maybe uses the kid for government welfare, and barely tolerates the existence of the child. It may happen when the parent realizes the child won't live up to the parent's vicarious fantasy of being a doctor/lawyer/athlete/high status career. The child is then sort of mentally written off as a mistake, a fluke. Any flaws in the child are attributed to the child alone, "I raised you better", so the parent walks away blameless and perfect thus the narcissist ego remains intact.
