Yeah, it is terrible. The africans call these people "culture vultures" and it is easy to see why. As others have said they use these subcultures to flesh out their own identity and seem unique and different, nothing more, or less. They aren't actually pessimistic nor nihilistic. They use it as a fashion statement because it is so easy for them to do. This is what happens to almost all subcultures really. Unless you have some kind of initiation ritual or some kind of acting body to decide who is and who isn't it is impossible to root these people out and they will go from place to place and suck the soul out of whatever they come across.
