The goal part should be rewritten and clarified because I'm not sure if the goal is for yourself or your people. For example does " to create a fascinating story for your people?" mean to make a mythos for the people to read/learn or for you to live alongside them and influence their history?
I'd change the culture section into "what does your faith value?" It's specific towards what you represent and what the basis for the people is. To parallel the choices already written there: power, social justice (fitting for that meekness cult description), knowledge, growth; then adding some other more like art/beauty, hedonism, community, goodness, etc. and an open option for anything the reader may prefer. They may choose several values and put them in a hierarchy if they like. Alternatively, polytheism/"full-roster" could associate a value with each image of you. Antagonist would have the opposing value, obviously.
Reorganize some other stuff into separate religious and cultural practices categories. It'd be neat to include stuff like "certain object/animal is holy", "inbreeding", "eugenics", "certain trait is good/evil", "blasphemers are treated as such…" etc.

Visualization mostly. Looking at a decent picture that matches the text helps visualize what you choice is. Take these two for example. First one has you building a body with with Aphrodite. Say I'm male, with muscles and magic. Without decent pictures, it's just text.
Now with this page from Divine Trials, you get see what sort of character I am.
Male, Muscular, Tall, Normal Dick, DFC, Claws (Poisoned), Scales, Wings. By looking at the pictures, you can see I'm a human with dragon features and you have a rough image as to what I look like.
It's kind of like advertising at a supermarket, a good picture makes me want to pick it while the text contains all I need to know about it.
That being said there are .pdfs with only texts floating out there and they're simpler to do but I don't think they're as good as a cyoa that has pretty pictures, like Star Dust or Branching Heart.
My collection only takes up 2.5 gig from 650 images, it's worthwhile.

You know as I was searching for places with CYOAs, I recognized how lonely the "popular sphere" was.
There's some thousands of different forums just scattered and lying around, but all we talk about is mainly Tumblr/Reddit, then sometimes SA or something of the type, and then anons occasionally make potshots at facebook and twitter. There's barely any way to find out actual different communities out there besides what we already know, using a search engine doesn't really help (unless there's a trick to it?). I find it funny that anons bragged about how they "Know forums that actually discuss video games"– It is a miracle they have been found.

The editor for that image made the text slightly colored for the box, so what it needs it contrast between the text and the background makes it more readable. And it's perfectly readable enough already.
Font thickness and size would be more what you are describing.
What I take issue with that cyoa is that the image is too wide for my screen. So I either have to zoom in and scroll side to side, or have it fit to screen width and get blurry text.

GIMP allows you to disable text antialiasing when you're making a CYOA (pic related), and Windows allows you to disable antialiasing (called ""text smoothing"") in the settings (pic related).

Hi, I'm the guy who posts a lot of the cyoas here as I enjoy them. As to your question, let's run through some practicals. Say I have a 20 page lewd cyoa like Divine Trials, if I were to post that in a lewd general thread it would take up 4 posts and get in the way of people posting their builds to other cyoas. It'd be like /cyoag/ on cuckchan and that does look like a mess sometimes. Not to mention when it gets updated and I have to repost the new version and people would have to scroll to that. You can also look at the links to the forum posts that an anon linked and how much of a mess that is, requiring a damn index page to find anything.
The model this board uses, which every significant cyoa gets their own thread makes it so much easier for me to post updated stuff, contain all the builds to one thread and allows you to see how other people have responded to it. It's kind of the same thing they use on reddit but our stuff is preserved here on the site and not on imgur and lost in an archive somewhere.
There are currently two generals already, one for waifus and lewd. I don't mind if people repost stuff there as it saves you looking through the catalog to find a specific one but those generals greatest ability is to host single page cyoas. Stuff like an elf slave one I think requires it's own thread for the multitude of builds you could create from it but a simple single page waifu one that doesn't deserve it's own thread can be posted there.
Honestly I don't think there is any need to change anything as I like this system and it works fairly well. You just need to keep an eye out for people trying to push politics and that mentally Ill tranny voxxe from shitting up threads with his advertising.

I'm getting all goose-pimply thinking of all the ways you can make it.
As for the origin part: every character starts off as human, instead make it more of a transformation moment.
There are 5 flavors for a megaten protag, COMP user, Avatar tuner, Demidemon, persona user and Demonica user.
As for the items, I would recommend allowing the player to make their own builds for example, a phys character vs a magic one vs a summoning one.
I don't think there should be an items tab, instead just more demons/ persona party characters.
If you don't want to expand on it, could you tell me what software you used to create that CYOA so I could continue your work?

Anyway, I'm working on this thing but not satisfied with my magic categories.
Geomancy CYOA has you turned into a Geomancer by the newly awakened spirit of the earth. Different magic is associated with different terrains (all images are real photos of earth), and you select four of them. Additionally, you have a team with two other people, and can influence their selections as well.
If I have the drive, there may be a "competition" aspect to it as well, where you are competing against other realities. Only in a narrative sense, though (no stats).
What I'd love input on is the rough magic categorization I have here so far. Are there things that don't fit well? Are there ones that seem too weak/too strong? Are there major "types" of magic that I am missing?

Necromancy in desert seems odd. Even though deserts are pretty dead, there's not much death in there. Though, this depends on what kind of necromancy it is. If it's the actual kind, i.e talking to spirits of the dead, I guess that could be explained by the spirits congregating in such places. In any case, necromancy is usually associated with dead humans, so I would give it a man-made environment (for an additional bonus it would be an unnatural place for a potentially unnatural type of magic). Maybe a lost desert city like Iram, though finding a fitting picture would probably be hard. Or you could replace the necromancy with something associated with spirits in general as the jump from a desert to things like the djinn comes easy.
Team work and coordination in a coral reef seems decently clever, and I could see the reasoning for rest of the environment/magic connections.
