DDG is unusable. Google occasionally gives something useful, if you sift through the first twenty or fifty pages of SEO garbage ChatGPT phony blogs full of keyword-studded gibberish created to game Google's search engine results and drive traffic to whatever shitty eCommerce site paid their SEO assholes the most this morning to DDoS Google with garbage to raise their own search results by burying everyone else's in trash. DDG is supposedly an anonymizing front end for Bing. Bing is trash and gives only trash search results, worse than Google's, with more AI "help" to show me results for what it thinks I should have searched for instead of what I actually searched for. Bing, and, by extension, DDG, is so bad that it makes Google, even in its current lobotomized state, look pretty good, if only by comparison.
It is arguable that what has happened to Google isn't completely Sundar Pichai's fault. A great deal of information that used to be readily accessible through phpBB forums, blogs, email list archives, Usenet, and so on, has been taken out of the publicly searchable part of the Internet. Facebook and Reddit and Twitter want to lock you into their platforms, want to force you to install their spyware on your phones and doxx yourself to them to make an account just so that you can read. They're making the information their users post harder and harder to see from outside of the "walled gardens." More and more of the old phpBB bulletin boards have been shut down as their viewers all go to Reddit. And Archive.org only looked at the index page for those–when a phpBB imageboard goes away, if you didn't save the material, it's gone forever, vanished like it never existed, and Archive.org won't show you any of it. Those things aren't Sundar Pichai's fault. Pushing Google AdWords and nourishing the SEO companies instead of chopping them off at the knees, though, those are definitely 100% on him.
