Almost every time I'm on the highway, I think about what would happen if I just ignored my exit and kept going.
There's a certain appeal in the idea of shedding all of one's personal possessions save for the bare essentials and just driving away. It's easy to feel trapped by the stuff you own and the relationships you form with other people. Modern life doesn't really give you many opportunities to reinvent yourself.

I was surprised to read this in OP's article, because I had incorrectly assumed that a very modern, technology-driven country would be on their A-game for tracking citizens.
