i think that i just found one of the most cyberpunk app of all times, it's called where are the eyes and it shows all the security camera in the world, it's participative and everybody can put a "warning spot" to show where is a camera, that's cool so i wanted to share it with you guys

There's also
https://kamba4.crux.uberspace.de/
which just shows "surveillance" tag from OpenStreetMap. The good thing is that you don't need an app to see what's going on.

There was some technology in the Kazaa era that movie theaters would use to hunt out cam pirates. They had some device that would blast our infrared (maybe?) and detect reflections, because lenses reflected the light in some specific way.
I wonder if something similar could be incorporated into life cams/go pros, so as you're walking around, you're automatically logging where there are 'hits' for camera lens reflections.
Another way to think of the project is, instead of avoiding surveillance, maybe show the safest route? IE the one most covered. Not very punk but would be far more likely to get adopted, or at least mentioned on some news program that could drive interest.

IIRC London (aka city with highest cameras/citizens ratio) did some studies and found out cameras don't actually make you safer.

They also sell that tech for defence installations which can pick up on cameras, scopes, binoculars and the human eye at a distance of multiple kilometers, so you get an advanced warning when someone tries to recce

That looks sort of related, like you're flooding the camera to obscure yourself, which is crazy that its so effective with a minimal setup. No need to hack centOS, just blast it with IR
Then again it also draws huge attention to you if anyone is watching

There was quite extensive discussion of this on old lainchan /cyb/ a few years back. I recall that higher quality surveillance cams are immune to this, so be aware.

That's because it appears to be participatory, so it only labels cameras that people register on it - and since the website is based in Germany, almost all of the cameras are listed there. I glanced at a major US city and found about 10 records, which is obviously very wrong.
I know there are a lot of publicly-accessible cameras, as well as a lot of unsecured webcams out there. I wonder if there would be a way to scrape location data from them, even if it's just a general location based on IP. It would be useless for knowing if a specific area is private but it could be used to build a "privacy index" that would rank cities by level of surveillance.

phones are surveillance and tracking devices. there's something ironic about wanting a phone app that tracks security cameras when the camera and mic on your phone can be activated remotely without your knowledge.
>>48820
That's because criminals don't give a shit about whether the camera is there when they stab you. They just hope they don't get caught later.
London also has a problem where they just can't stop themselves from importing violent third world criminals, so that doesn't help.

I generally don't mind (privately owned) cameras.
Wish there were civvie body cams and social norm for wearing them too.
All those dash cams in cars not only resulted in tons of hilarious shit on youtubes, but also protect drivers from scams and corrupt police on daily basis, so imagine how much good civvie body cams would do.
Smartphones are getting us here, but they're not good enough, you actually need to take it out and fumble with a glitchy app for half a minute to start recording, body cam is just put it on and turn it on.
It's only when data gets centralized then things go bad, the disbalance of power (as in knowledge) is what we want to avoid.

Its frustrating when the police release bodycam footage that they've edited/modified/obscured so they technically released the footage, but are keeping the information advantage. I think Minnesota sometimes does this, they leave the audio alone but way downscale the resolution so you can't make out who's who. I guess you could argue it on privacy grounds. I know I wouldn't want it public and visible in detail how I behaved during an arrest or if I called them.

How the fuck do you think Google Maps knows when there's slower traffic or congestion along a particular route? Google sure as hell isn't pulling traffic report data from the department of transportation. It's using smartphone GPS data to track the speed at which users are traveling, and it takes note when enough of them drop significantly below the average speed for that stretch of highway.
If you think your phone isn't tracking you 24/7, you're either an idiot or a shill for a megacorp or alphabet soup agency.

There's a reason why some people working in some branches of governments are using burner phones during some specific circumstances.
In regards to the everyday man though, the worst you have to worry about is Google/Apple/Samsung/Amazon stealing your photos and recording your voice while also plotting your everyday route.

Sure, until the US starts to pass more aggressive "hate speech" legislation, and then they come asking the tech companies to help them track down people who think there are only two genders so they can be re-educated.
The example I'm using is purposefully exaggerated but the core idea is the same. What happens when the corporation storing your data is made to bend the knee to a master who thinks of you as the enemy? Look into how Google or Apple behaves in countries like China, or how Facebook hired an ex-Stasi agent (on Merkel's insistence) to help police their site for incorrect thoughts.
There's always an implicit danger in having your data stored by a tech corp. Just because it's harmless now doesn't mean it will be in 10 years time.

Hate to break it to you, but they'd sell data to ANYONE offering enough. Again, this is data that belongs to you.
If you personally decide to sell your data to megacorps for brouzouf it's your decision. If someone else does it, that's basically theft.
