It's the diamonds showing up at the right time that was convenient, them keeping Pink Spaghetti as a pet ties together the segment from the beginning of the movie where they wanted Steven to stay with them because they're lonely cat ladies
It's a dumb premise, but then the whole diamond plotline was dumb anyway, and that wrapped it all up in a way that was at least good for all the characters involved

The epilogue series seems like it'll be after another small timeskip, so probably, though the diamonds and spinel are in it, so the events won't be entirely meaningless

The first four episodes are out
Turns out Steven's stand from the finale was actually foreshadowing, and he now has a pink kaioken powered by negative emotions, which the show is no longer shying away from
Overall, the storytelling also seems better, this is all mostly stuff that would've just been filler before, but it's all tying into Steve-O's character development, which seems to be the main plot of this thing for once

What if the final villain is Steven?
The "YOU ARE NOT MY DIAMOND" + steven doing a leaping shield-rush trailers looked pretty cool though the paired context was misleading, as trailers should be.
Maybe I am too optimistic but "Future" seems like it might fix some of the problems that cropped up in the original series, like Steven questioning how childish/feminine he was, a void growing with Connie so they can't just casually become a tranny all the time, getting taller/muscular/facial hair, pushing away his foster mothers so he doesn't tranny-merge with them so often.
Of course that doesn't stop Amethyst but she's always been the one to molest him his entire life.
Plus we learn Onion is invincible and he is probably the 5th diamond.
