The same could be said of the resurgence of live action anime adaptations. There have been a few in Japan but now Hollywood is getting into and I don't think they're doing it intentionally to crash the industry. Probably people who grew up with these films and have terrible taste are in the position of power to fund these types of movies.
The answer is usually the simplest and they're being made with the intent to make movie but using the dumbest decisions possible that they possibly couldn't.
Every industry has a crash at some point and it feels like they're all aligned to do this simultaneously because they're taking guidance from the same source. Comics are in a weird place for the big 2 and if you want something different, you're likely looking to the indies now, foreign comics or manga. They might have bad content as well but at least it's more varied bad compared to what we Americans have to digest with comics.
It does feel like we're so close to the end of this weird haze of politically charged entertainment and lack of creativity but there is always a bump to remind you that you're still a ways away from reaching it. I'm starting to think I could make my own comic and be successful because it feels like nobody is even trying hard anymore. I might not have the technological or software advantage compared to the pros but I think I have more heart to put into a medium that I care about, even if my first choice was never to be a comic artist. I'd to it just to try it out because entertainment on all spectrums is just pushing me to just give it a try.

None of the publicity material actually shows the look, even Battle Angel Alita put their balls on the table and showed us Gally's honkin' big eyes right up front.
They must have absolutely no faith in what they've created.

I really fucking hate this genre. He-Man, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Smurfs, Garfield, Enchanted, Chipmunks, and so much more. And despite Transformers always having been set in the real world with aliens, Bay still found a way to make it shitty while relying too much on IRL interactions between aliens and military rather than kid and robot friends. Detective Pikachu for all its faults seems to be one of the few to actually try to build a whole fucking world.

Sometimes, when a character looks too ridiculous to make realistic, they should just add a videogamey model but implement it well (proper shading etc.). Noone believes the character is really there anyway.
Why not make the character literally jump out of his videogame in the movie? It's not like that world is full of weird, talking animals.
In the Detective Pikachu, it works because there are tons of other Pokemon living among humans, so Pikachu blends in more.
To be fair, I didn't think a realistic Pikachu would ever look good.
