>The poster shows a couple of key updates to Sonic, and we had the opportunity to speak with the creative team behind the movie to find out new details about the upcoming movie. This telling of Sonic's story sees him as a bit of a fish – or hedgehog – out of water. Sonic, voiced by Ben Schwartz, finds himself in our present-day world, wherein he develops a relationship with James Marsden's Tom Wachowski and also finds himself at odds with Jim Carrey's Dr. Robotnik. As expected, mayhem ensues.

I really fucking hate this genre. He-Man, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Smurfs, Garfield, Enchanted, Chipmunks, and so much more. And despite Transformers always having been set in the real world with aliens, Bay still found a way to make it shitty while relying too much on IRL interactions between aliens and military rather than kid and robot friends. Detective Pikachu for all its faults seems to be one of the few to actually try to build a whole fucking world.

Sometimes, when a character looks too ridiculous to make realistic, they should just add a videogamey model but implement it well (proper shading etc.). Noone believes the character is really there anyway.
Why not make the character literally jump out of his videogame in the movie? It's not like that world is full of weird, talking animals.
In the Detective Pikachu, it works because there are tons of other Pokemon living among humans, so Pikachu blends in more.
To be fair, I didn't think a realistic Pikachu would ever look good.
