Anybody cook/bake anything fancy this Christmas?
Pic related is my Bûche de Noël. My first time making one, but it turned out okay… I think.

Haven't really cooked much at all this Christmas since I've been invited to festivities with family and the gf's family.
I think for next year I'll make turkey

Best Christmas ever! I got a shiny new stand mixer, artificial lighting so I no longer have to rely on daylight to take food pictures, a new stainless steel skillet, a knife set, a new whisk, and best of all: 5 pounds of body fat! (I blame the chocolate truffles) I also got several bottles of wine and both volumes of Mastering the Art of French Cooking. And of course, the tenderloin.
Pic related is of the coconut rum balls I was giving away.
Eat, drink and be merry. And tomorrow; we diet!

I made some ice cream with my father. Making a good vanilla ice cream is actually pretty hard. We made a raspberry ice cream that was really good. Yogurt ice cream we tried didn't turn out well.

YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play. I might bake cookies this year. I haven't done it the past couple years just from being so busy. My niece started baking recently so it should be fun.

That's a pit distressing. There's got to be a better way to do this, like a hard cookie or a turron.

That sounds cute. You should get your niece a lewd apron for Christmas. My sisters hated cooking/baking and grew up looking for a boyfriend to cook for them. (One settled with a less attractive guy than she wanted, while the other just eats out every meal.)

Do the opposite of what Sandra Lee does.

Fanciest thing I've made are jelly sandwich cookies, pic related. I really enjoy hot cocoa, so I might try making some sort of fancy peppermint hot cocoa with peppermint liqueur and a candy cane or something. I also haven't tried making it with melting chocolate instead of cocoa powder, so I will probably try that as well and compare.

I usually spend Christmas alone with Anons, so I don't make anything fancy. I'll probably make simple fish with a cider sauce and potatoes, it's always nice and I can finish the cider during the evening.

These look very good, they remind me of our lunettes de Romans ("Romans' eyeglasses") that are shortbread cookies between a thin layer of sticky, very syrupy jelly.
