I disagree. The restaurant I'm currently staging at uses canola oil for deep-frying, and I just hate the smell and taste of it. I had a taste of one of the fries, it didn't taste good at all.

good fats

>Cold pressed raw non-pasteurized organic extra virgin unfiltered Olive oil

>Cold pressed raw non-pasteurized organic extra virgin Coconut oil

>raw nuts

>raw seeds

>Avocados

It's good to avoid cooking with fats as much as possible. I normally cook and then wait for the food to cool some more before adding any more fats to it. Yes, some foods contain fat and are cooked, like peas. They do have some but that's fine.

if you absolutely need to cook with fat, coconut oil is the best. very high smoke point.

bad fats

Highly refined, and usually a huge omega 6 fatty acid overload. most are all full of pesticides because of how they are grown, and are over processed. Many of these are constantly aggressively advertised by evil corporations as "heart healthy" to lure people into a false sense that they are eating well.

>corn oil

>soybean oil

>canola oil

>flax seed oil (not because its bad, but because of how fast it goes rancid in the bottle on the store shelf without showing many signs. Just buy whole flax seeds and grind them before you eat)

>butter

>lard

The rape flower has this acid in it that isn't healthy for people and makes them really sick, so they can't eat it.

To make it into canola oil, some people from a corporation in canada and supposedly also teaming up with monsanto later on, selectively bred the rape flower insanely, until it had low levels of that acid in it. Later on it was then taken into a lab and heavily genetically modified even further. Today its more commonly named canola oil. It goes through a very harsh refining process from farm to store shelf, so even if you find it usda organic, it's still a very refined and stupid thing to buy. read ingredients on every product because like soy, it is sneaked into huge amounts of products needlessly.

While I agree that it is ridiculous how we got all these faggots who buy into all the latest meme-foods and go overboard with them just because buzzfeed said it was healthy, I do believe that coconut oil actually is healthy, and I will continue to believe so until there is reputable evidence to suggest otherwise. It's also tasty, and to me that is really all that matters. I'm only interested in the taste.

As for the ">Cold pressed raw non-pasteurized organic" labeling bullshit, that's just pure cancer… It's even worse that every bottle of olive oil is labeled "extra-virgin" like it means something anymore.

See? Saturated fats are good for you~!!

Well, that's not exactly "true" either. In my opinion, CHD is caused by a generally poor lifestyle and dietary habits, like eating large portion sizes and not exercising etc. The French may have a very fatty diet, but their portion sizes are tiny. Israelis on the other hand may have less fat in their diets, but their portion sizes are much larger. They also likely don't exercise as much as the French do.

And now we look at Americans; ridiculously large portion sizes, little to no exercise, a diet not only high in saturated fats but also high in everything else (including trans fats, which is basically poison.)

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. You need a balance of both, and both Israelis and Americans are consuming WAY too many omega-6 fatty acids (found mainly in vegetable oils like soybean, canola/rape, sunflower, etc) while not consuming enough omega-3 fatty acids (found mostly in fish and fish oil).

>Cold pressed raw non-pasteurized organic" labeling bullshit, that's just pure cancer…

what's cancerous is how people can't even have critical thinking. lets deconstruct what this means.

>Cold pressed raw non-pasteurized organic"

>cold pressed

this means that there were no chemicals or heat used to seperate out the oil from the pulp of the coconut.

>raw

>non-pasteurized

this means that after being extracted from the coconut, the oil was not heated.

>organic

this means that the coconut was grown organically and isn't going to be loaded with huge amount of pesticides like conventional or genetically modified crops are.

do your research before you talk crap about something that actually means what it's saying.

I don't want to buy some highly refined heated processed oil when I can get the most plain and untouched coconut oil.

You're missing the point. All oil, especially coconut oil should be like that and shouldn't require special labeling to distinguish it from the shitty stuff.

Also, this labeling gives many companies an excuse to make their oil more expensive than the generic brands. You ever hear of olive oil fraud? Who's to say your "Cold pressed raw non-pasteurized organic" coconut oil is ACTUALLY "Cold pressed raw non-pasteurized organic" coconut oil?

olive oil fraud happens because it's easy for the olive oil mafia (no I ain't joking) to replicate the color, smell, flavor, texture, viscosity, weight, and so on of the olive oil.

coconut oil is much harder to fake because it would be more expensive for them to fake it out of something else (while still making it not kill whoever eats the fake crap) than it would to just sell the real thing.

I agree, all the oils should definitely be held to higher standards right from the very start, but the reason why certain products must be labeled a certain way is because the customers, basically everyone interested in avoiding all the low quality refined processed crap need to know which one is legit.

It is a huge pain in the ass but I rather my favorite brand stay true to its quality rather than just stop selling as "cold pressed" and leaving me to cluelessly wander around the store like an idiot and buy nothing at all.

this is what makes me upset though, I'm very angry that people even have to go out of their way in the first place to actually educate themselves so heavily so that they know what to avoid and what to buy. I'm angry that there are not universal standards even better than usda organic, and I'm angry that the store even sells the refined fake crap oil ever at all.

>"pic related looks really tasty!" - no one

This is how shills attempt to paint health conscious people in a bad light, giving the false illusion that all people against unnecesarry additives in the food they put into their bodies are delusional stupid idiots who have some stupid and baseless reason to be against eating "muh chemicals"

People who are extremely health conscious are against artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives because big corporations don't care about the health of their customers.

Don't you tell me that everyone for clean untampered with food is some stupid fool that you would love to stick into a group with some weird anti "muh chemicals" fringe group. We are real normal ordinary people who don't want to eat shit that you have fallen so low to have ever considered to allow into your body. How could you have ever lowered your standards so far? So far even to the point that you feel the need, no, a strong false sense of justice to convince others that they are wrong for believing they deserve better than absolute trash. We wont let you drag us down with you, we don't care if you eat fast food and drink the next big energy drink, we wont, and in fact we will always strive to eat better and raise the standard of quality of the food that we will feed our children and the food they will feed theirs.

So like my great grandfather said onto your ancestors. NO U

As the guy who started this debate with >>7819 I feel like I should clarify….

I'm not anti-gmo, nor do I believe "cold-pressed" actually means anything.

However, I do support organic farming and having only real ingredients in my food products for several reasons:

1. It tastes 10x better. Real 18-30% sour cream with 5 ingredients (max) tastes much better than the lower fat 14% "standard" sour creams that contain thickening agents and sugars to compensate for its lack of thickness and flavour.

2. It just feels… more natural. I don't care so much whether or not it's healthier, but there is definitely a feeling I get that's hard to describe when consuming food without weird stuff in it. When I eat stuff with all those weird ingredients, without even reading the label, I can just tell there's something… off about it.

3. It inspires me to make stuff from scratch. Hummus for instance; the moment I found out there was canola oil in my hummus (which I'm allergic to, so I always got digestive issues every time I ate it) I decided it was time to start making my own. Now, my homemade hummus recipe tastes a million times better than the stuff I got from the store. I've done the same thing with tzatziki, baba ganoush, even potato chips. I do nearly everything that I need to from scratch now, and I love it! \(^ω^\)

you could have stopped being lazy for one moment and looked it up yourself, but cold pressed oil means that when the plant material is squeezed, they do it under minimal heat conditions.

other really shitty products squeeze the plants really hard to get more oil out but it causes pressure and friction, making the oil get fairly hot before even reaching the customer.

basically, the less temerature the oil deals with, the better.

highly refined oils sold at stores usually go through alot of processing and heating.

USDA Organic doesn't allow the use of gentically modified ingredients.

I'll also say that I'm not against genetic modification technology, I'm against it being use irresponsibly. Humanity simply does not have the knowledge or skill to use genetic modification technology safely yet, so monsanto should stop using people and the entire world's natural environment as guniea pigs.

Not a "hard" no, but I can only drink half a cup of coffee a day or else I could give myself a heart attack. I'm pretty small.

I don't see your point. Caffeine is a drug, which I consume knowing very well where I can find it (coffee, tea) and what effect it'll have on my body, but that doesn't mean I want caffeine in all my food products! Guar gum, xanthan gum, and all those other weird stuff though manage to find their way into nearly everything and are consumed regularly by people who either don't know or don't care.

When I eat yogurt, I eat it because I want to eat yogurt, and I could do without laxatives in my yogurt unless the yogurt is marketed specifically for those with digestive issues, and I happen to be having digestive issues that day. Actually no, I'd rather just take the damn laxatives in pill form and eat regular yogurt.

There's a difference between eating garbage and eating regular ordinary food. I don't shell out extra money for organic shit and I don't have acne or become constipated. You don't have to buy non-gmo food to eat healthy. This organic frenzy is largely scare tactics used by the SAME FARMERS to get you to pay more for essentially the same fucking shit. Organic eggs? Had em. There is barely any taste difference, not enough of one to pay twice as much, anyway. The yolks actually tend to be too fat and heavy and are more prone to breaking if you are making fried eggs, unless you break them very close to the pan. Organic fruits and vegetables? Still grown with fertilizer, usually a seagull guano nitrate mix. There is no discernable taste difference. Are they healthier? Who fucking cares? You're the sucker paying twice as much for the same shit. Who cares if it makes you live a few years longer? who even wants to live longer in a world like this?

I wasn't talking about organic shit, I was talking about food products with additives. Sorry for the confusion.

>There is no discernable taste difference.

Yes, there is. The "organic" apples I get taste much sweeter than their pesticide covered counterparts. Same deal with beefsteak tomatoes; much sweeter. Garlic also has a stronger flavour. However, stuff like cucumbers, pomegranates, potatoes, bell peppers, scallions, onions, yeah… that's pretty much all the same so I just get the conventional kind.

>This organic frenzy is largely scare tactics used by the SAME FARMERS to get you to pay more for essentially the same fucking shit.

This is true for the most part, that's why I only get the stuff that actually tastes better. Eggs are a bit of an exception though: while I agree that the taste difference is minimal, I've read too many horror stories about battery eggs and the chickens they come from (eating their own feces etc) and I have unfortunately fallen victim to this particular scare tactic. Are they actually healthier? Hey, probably! I'll pay an extra dollar per carton juuuust to be safe… (I only do this with eggs though I swear)

I can totally understand why you might want to avoid caffeine, especially if you keep finding it in alot of your foods and especially if you just happen to be one of those people who just simply doesn't handle caffeine very well. some people handle spicy food better than others so its completely understandable.

what I don't understand at all is why you are willing to be against xanthan gum and guar gum, and even more surprisingly only because of their possible laxative effects on the body (if even measurable in the small quantities that may be added to products that they are commonly found in) yet not against trying a cigar that has links to cancer.

I totally agree with you that when I buy "food A" its because I want "food A" not "food A + additive". I really despise and avoid almost all products that are dishonest about that.

I would say that so long as ingredients like guar gum, locust bean gum, and xanthan gum are organic that I would be slightly less concerned about them as ingredients- although I would want to do more research before being fully committed to any of them concerning the method by which they are processed.

I'm much more worried about ingredients such as:

>yellow 5

>magnesium stearate

>genetically modifed pesticed applicated soy that has been processed into soy lecithin

(I like organic soy lecithin however. supposedly has some nice nervous system coating effects and is a huge "fluid booster" for certain parts of the male biology, but I would eat it with maca root, ashwaganda, and broccoli to prevent its estrogen like qualities from affecting me)

I'm very wary of the criticism against people who want to take care of their health. forgive me if my spider sense was tingling.

>but we are laughing at alarmist hipsters who will refuse to eat anything other than organic trend food.

>organic trend food

See, this is the reason why so many people scream shill. People who have a good understanding of the importance of organic food are not offended, however they fear that others will be mislead by a comment like that because they want others to know the truth and as a result eat healthier so that they don't support corporations like monsanto and their business practices. basically, the flipflip wearing hippies who only eat organic vegetables are freaking out and trying to warn everyone that there is a huge mass poisoning taking place. do your research on monsanto.

I wont say that organic food is perfect because it absolutely isn't, but if you want to avoid a metric-butt-load of additives and poison throughout your daily life, organic is the best place to start.

I would rather recommend that people just grow their own food themselves but I remember that not everyone even has a backyard of sufficient size to sustainably feed themselves.

I'm also going to say this: avoid organic food that's being marketed to the ignorant "soccor moms" who go "ohh la la gluten free hue hue, organic bullshit for sale oooh coupons!" because these people are the financial targets of corporate jackasses who only want to ride the organic bandwagon and end up giving the whole thing a bad name.

wholefoods is a huge outlet for those looking for organic food but it's also one of the many who are betraying their customers by charging so much money for products they simply should not be.

you have to be smart before you shop organic or you will run out of the store complaining that everything you saw was a scam. You would be correct, everything you SAW is a scam, however if you look closer you will realize you can actually find some food at a good price while avoiding the 10$ 2oz organic barbeque sauce bottle.
