How do you fix up your hot dogs?
My favorites are:
>Fry in butter, add a but of BBQ sauce or similar. Sister says adding parmesan for some reason improves this
>Slice part way through, fry, add chipotle hot sauce and whatever greens I have
>Just drop a fried egg on it

If I am doing them well…
Toasted bun, in toaster oven, not a sesame seed or wheat bun, cheapass plain white bun
Once bun is done, hot dog goes in toaster oven for cooking
I offend hot dog purists, by dressing the bun, not the hot dog
Light smear of mayonnaise on one side
Medium smear of brown mustard on the other
Pickle slices (not a spear, not relish) on the mayo side
A light amount of sauerkraut, if I am in the mood (single layer, not so much you can't see the mustard)
Place the dog on the bun
If it's roller grill…
mayo packet, nacho cheese sauce, either banana peppers or pickle slices (rare to find a roller grill with both), and plan to regret my life choices 75 minutes later

Tidbits of french fries pressed into my corndog batter?
Mostly, from what I have experienced of state and county fair food, they use an inferior grade of batter which would not be acceptable for this.
That said, there is potential for the fairs in Idaho or Maine. Wisconsin doesn't quite make the list, because they have a disturbing obsession with cream puffs at the fairs, and most of the attendees don't know how many potatoes are grown in Wisconsin (except for the people from around Wisconsin Rapids), so it wouldn't make sense to them.
(I have no association with Wisconsin DATCP or the potato marketing board.)

Depends on what's available, and maybe the type of hot dogs I have cooked; you see a tube of meat inside a bun and think they are all the same, but they aren't. Different topping go better on different types of hot dogs–for instance I wouldn't want a bunch of minced onions on a hot dog with a really soft bun, that's how dad eats practically drinks them, but if that bun were toasted yes I will add it.
My go to is always Barbecue sauce, or just mustard
I still haven't decided if I prefer brown or yellow mustard

put the hotdog on oven rack at about 350 (but lower is also OK) and when it gets about perfect put the bun over it and turn off oven and wait about 4min. I got a self-cleaning oven so don't care if drips a bit.
I've been experimenting with fresh "hot dog relish" of fresh chopped cabbage and onions, with mustard. The minced veg works really well with mustard to hold everything together and keep mustard from dripping. Most important is FRESH cabbage. Makes a nice counter point to the other highly processed meat, bread and mustard.
I'm hoping to expand that concept to a Burger, most likely with mayo, mustard, ketchup and fresh minced onion, tomato, and maybe bell peppers.

>Toss some bratwurst in a pot of beer (I like using Märzen.)
>Bring it up to a boil, then remove from heat when it begins boiling. Remove foam if needed.
>Let it sit for about eight hours or so.
>Bake some pretzel buns that can hold the bratwurst or buy some premade ones if you're lazy or don't have the ingredients for them.
>Take the bratwurst out from the beer and grill them for about 3-5 minutes on each side. Do not poke them with a fork lest you get hot juices spraying everywhere.
>Slice a pretzel bun and place a grilled bratwurst in.
>Top with honey mustard, grilled onions, and some sauerkraut and serve with a cold beer.

Speaking from an American perspective, I do enjoy bratwurst and these things called wieners. I have found in a store over here called "world market." according to them these wieners are from Germany. However, after doing some basic research they seem to have an origin in Austria. Regardless, I do enjoy the European counterpart to the American hotdog. With all that being said, the mutt inside me does still enjoy a hotdog fried in butter.

She put catsup on them, then put them in the oven. Half way through the cooking process she sprinkled shredded cheese on them. I deep fried my hotdogs in a cast Iron pan with a canola oil then put mayonnaise on the bun, put the hotdog on the bun, put ketchup on the hotdog then added capers. I liked both of them.

>mystery meat
Anon I'm sorry to say but that's not a thing. Hot dogs are just a sausage where the meat has been blended smooth. Typically made using a mix of meat trimmings, think the stuff stuck to the bones that are too small to be sold as is, usually mixed with other ingredients for different flavors or textures. It's not really different from any other sausage.
Hell they even tell you what meat it is. Most I see here are a mix of Beef, Pork, and Chicken. But there's plenty of pure beef ones, see a lot of turkey ones, basically anything.

Nice
>>16481
Tackling each of these though:
>Junk chemicals
No. For one a 'junk' chemical is a fucking weird idea that someone's got nebulous spare chemicals they need to get rid of hanging around. I think what you might be on about are acids, extracts, or other flavorings. If you could give an actual name I could clear it up for you but as a rule of thumb acids contribute to taste and pH levels, some also help with curing the meat, or some I believe do preservation. Extracts are pretty much always for flavor, ditto for MSG. Others are typically used to control pH levels or preserve the meat.
>Corn Syrup
This depends on brand. It is a common one though, especially in american brands. It's a very cheap form of sugar, which is a flavor booster that makes things taste better. Most processed foods have some in it (If not corn syrup than another kind of sugar). If you don't want it look for brands without added sugars.
>Xenoestrogens
I'm gonna need an exact example for this one. The best I can find would be Zeranol. It's used as a growth promoter in livestock, banned in the UK though. But this means it's present in pretty much all meat products. Butylated hydroxyanisole might be one too, it's a preservative but I don't know of any hot dog brands that use it.
>Soy
I think you mean Isolated Soy Protein. Which is basically just the proteins in soy beans (Though other grains can be used too, to make wheat protein or corn protein or whatever). Which by itself is relatively fine, it's an essential protein (Provides needed amino acids) however it does contain phytoestrogens. Which tends to affect cholesterol more than hormone levels unless you're getting them in insane amounts. Theres also Textured soy protein which is basically the same stuff but processed to get a texture desired by the manufacturer. That's the more common food additive for most frozen meals or processed meat items (Done to cut corners basically, it's a filler like most grains)
>"meat"
…It's meat. Meat is meat. Hot dogs are done with trimmings, the bits of meat too small to be used otherwise (A tradition as old as sausages). Poultry ones are mechanically separated, which is a process of putting bones under high pressure and basically sifting the meat still stuck to it out. This is still meat, stuff you'd normally suck off the bone or use for stock. The only notable different is it has a higher calcium content due to being closer to the bone. If you're on about pink slime that is just straight up beef trimmings which has had the fat removed and treated to kill off bacteria. And that stuff is in basically all ground beef products.
Learn to read labels and be specific with the ingredients that sound scary please. I'm a sucker for chemistry and food science so explaining this shit is fun.

Still finishing off the touches for 4th of July. Burgers and ribs so far. This thread inspired me to go down to the super market today and pick up some ballparks, wursts, and chorizo if I can find them. I haven't had a grilled sausage in a very long time.

Chili-cheese dogs (A#1). Otherwise corn-dogs, with mustard-wasabi dip. I much prefer Bar M Louisiana Brand Hot Links to hot dogs though.

I microwave mine.
Hear me out, anons, please.
After pouring the boiling water in and waiting a few minutes, they're nuked a minute at a time so that the cooking is mostly done by the hot water.
I then continue the poverty mode experience by having them in a slice of bread.

I like to rool them around in the skillet with a bit of olive oil and split them into butterflies when about halfway done and dump black pepper all over them. Get them just about burned. You can get more condiments on there too, with the dogs split like that.
