Suggestion: it would be nice if there was some kind of stickied post that had measurement conversions for local and quick reference. I have no idea what a quart, gallon, flimflom, a hat's worth, gabagoo, primbok, or goodly pinches are as measurements and wouldn't mind a quick reference to the kilo measurements, and I'm sure vica versa would be appreciated as well.

And consider procuring an exotic set of US measuring cups and spoons, the 2 cup glass measuring pitcher we all use, and a fancy multi-standard digital kitchen scale (which will make baking actually possible).
If you're getting a scale, check that it can do grams, pounds-ounces, fluid ounces (water), and fluid ounces (milk).
Check out https://www.amazon.com/KitchenLiving-Digital-Kitchen-Stainless-Weighing/dp/B005VS4S40 for a baseline. Of course, any good baking recipes will already be in metric with everything specified in grams, so the extra modes may be far less useful.
The really weird one to convert will be egg sizing grades. I have absolutely no idea how a metric large egg compares to a USDA large egg.
