The gates rise, putting you across the field - perhaps fifteen meters, as you both close - from the unimpressive Nubian, wearing tribal cloths and holding his copper blade. As you have the higher DEX, you can choose to go first, or allow him to. The crowd roars, expecting a decent show.
NOTE: Post your stats, skills, equipment, and other mechanical in-combat bonuses when you post.

The Nubian is immediately impaled upon your heavy, unbalanced bronze blade, sputtering blood as the cheers of the crowd die down. Pushing him off, a brutal chop to his neck severs it, and the swarthy man collapses to the dirt, choking to death.
The crowd admires the efficiency of the fight, but is not entertained at it; it hardly lasted a minute! No renown is gained from this fight as you are escorted out of the Arena.

Aquilina scoffed as she looked to the slaves, the smell of yesterday's work still offending her nose, yet she was not tired. Bringing up her sword to aim at the slaves, she uttered words unknown and barbaric to the slaves, yet in the same tongue as the Iberian plebs watching the fight: "After dealing with the wretched scum that should be doomed to the Underworld, I have little patience nor care for either of you. However, I will allow you to have the first strike, for that will be my only act of mercy upon your sodded souls."

While the slaves clearly fail to understand Scarleto's words - as little as they can be heard over the din of the crowd - they likely would not have appreciated them anyway. More than that, they're much too far off to actually strike. Still, they do cautiously edge forward, egged on by one another and the enticing - not dangerous - appearance of the woman before them, gaining speed as they approach, raising their daggers.
You estimate they are roughly 10 meters away.

Aquilina too would approach the slaves, taking a few steps forward to close the gap by about four meters. As she moved forward, her hips would sway a bit, with a graces often unseen in the arena, for she prepared to sway herself out from any strikes that the slaves planned to do, in order to prepare for a counter-attack.

The crowd, expecting a good show for a 2v1, cheers notably louder as Scarleto sways her hips. The nuances of combat are sometimes lost on plebs, but no proper Roman would miss such a display. Violence and debauchery - the opportunity for both at once is rare! The leather still stings against her skin, but the crowd clearly likes it.
The slaves lunge forward, one, and then the other, attempting to drive their Pugios forward! Their clumsy thrusts and uncoordinated attacks ring of inexperience…

Name: Tiberius
Gender: A Male
Fluff: Tiberius, or as he was known, Julius Gaius Tiberius, was once a Legionnaire in the Military of the Republic, in particular he was a young Milite in the legion of Marcus Licinius Crassus, having just joined in time for Crasuss's campaign into Parthia. He was at Carrhae, and underneath the shields of his brothers he withstood the endless barrage of the Iranian horse archers, and watched as the General rode off to meet with the Parthians at their camp, never to return. The now leaderless army aimed to return to Rome, despondent at the loss of their general and the spoils that would come from the war, but happy to keep their lives. Yet the Parthians would not allow them to even have that, harrying them throughout their retreat. Julius was part of a group separated from the main army, was eventually captured along with some of his comrades and sold into slavery at the city of Mesopotamia. Here we was noticed by his masters as being good with the blade when one of them attempted to beat Julius, only for him to bring the man's sword to his neck. Figuring he was more trouble than he was worth, he was sold to the local arena to fight and hopefully die there. But it was not to be, with his skills from the Legion, Julius was able to win, and with it he drew the attention of other lanistas looking for fresh meat. He spent several years (during the civil war) traveling around the edges of the Republic fighting in whatever city his current Lanista decided was a good place to make some money. It was on a trip to Cadiz that his cycle of servitude and forced fighting came to a end, and Iberian Hill men raided his Lanista's caravan, slaughtering man. It was on the gladius of a fallen guard that Julius cut the ropes that bound him and sprinted off into the woods, with only the rags that he was clad in to his name. He traveled along the edges of the roads, keeping to the wood line till he reached Cadiz, he was weary and battered, but he was free, but still the Arena beckoned, and with no other skills of note to his name, Julius was forced once again into the arena, but this time he was fighting for himself.

Additionally, he is inherently a shock trooper, and can choose to gain all the AP for his next turn as many times as he desires in battle, going into active dodge and losing his next turn once finished.]
Renown: Unheard of (Imperial Blood - You are a Roman; a proper, upstanding one at that, led to the Arena by some cruel trick of fate or your own heart for the mercy of the sands. The crowd, therefore, expects you to be honorable, clever, and merciful, as befits a man of imperial standing. Julius advances 3 meters with his combat partner, reserving some of his strength in case the Macedonians charge. They fight close to one another, hardly enough men to form even the thinnest shield wall, not to mention lacking shields, but a brother aided by a brother is like a city walled. If they do reach within striking distance Julius will strike at them with his Gladius, the Roman Iron feeling quite at home in his experienced hand.

The Veteran is silent. His thoughts are his own.
The extremely slow advance by the Roman team is met by sporadic spurts of energy from the Macedons, one of the closest taking a near sprint to stand scarcely four meters back, slamming his Grecian blade against wood and leather with a vicious howl. The next closest might be around ten meters, side-by-side with another Macedon, and the last one hangs back five meters more. The lone one in front appears rather vulnerable.

"I shall take the nearest Macedonian, if the other advances I shall leave him to you, we shall take them apart piecemeal."
Summoning the strength of Aeneas and his time spent [Once a Legionaire], Julius advances and lunges forward, aiming to strike the macedonian down with a quick and effective strike from his [Iron Gladius (STR 7)[4 AP to swing, 7-8 DMG]. After this strike he intends to land another, to finish the enemy off if he is still standing. If he has any remaining strength he assumes a stance that will allow him to possibly dodge any incoming attacks.

As you lunge forward, the Macedonian is faster than you'd expect - surely due to his position at the front and lack of any serious armor. He ducks aside from a brutal impalement, but he doesn't expect you to have the energy for the slash that follows, which lands solidly on his form! Roll damage. Also, you have 2 AP left, which can be used for tactical motions, to survey the Arena, or to enhance your active dodge.

A powerful slash crosses against the Macedon's chest - he's able to pull back before the blade takes his life, but not before a deep gash is made across his chest. He's left stumbling backward with a gasp, and Julius left panting from exertion in such a short period of time.
"Ante." Growls the Veteran, stepping forward to take your place in the defensive line. The Veteran, clearly from the Legions as well, mimics your technique as you recover your breath, and presses forward with a quickness that betrays his age while the frontline Macedonian presses back. With a single, brutal motion, a slash from his Gladius severs half the man's neck from his body, leaving a bloody, gaping mess collapsing on the floor (to the approving roars of the crowd). Before the other three can retaliate, he presses back to the lines, though the Macedonians now appear collected and semi-organized, keeping something like a formation and preparing an advance, perhaps six or seven feet out.

The arena is rather barren, by intent. Most Roma arenas are on earth, cermanic, or wood flooring, covered in a thin layer of sand (With the exception of some, such as Rome, which is grand enough to contain a variety of environments and simulations). Little can be seen in the body of your opponent; strong, but with an obvious cowardice to him that can perhaps be exploited. While pondering just that, you do realize that if you could distract his attention, it might be an easy task to intimidate him…

Tympanum sneers, giving the spear an extra, vicious twist for good measure before tearing the bronze head from his fallen foe's thigh. He hoists the bloody weapon into the air and makes a victorious, cheering noise as he takes a "victory lap" 'round the arena.

For the moment, I'm discontinuing this for Reforged - I generally only run one game at a time, and thought this would be easy to run inbetween Reforged update. Turns out running a semi-complex combat system is actually rather time consuming. Go make characters for Reforged. Maybe when that finishes I'll reopen this.
