This continued for many years and he had built a small retinue of hired hands and blades of all sorts to make sure the dirty work gets done. He mostly stayed away from the nobles and their affairs until one faithful day he caught onto a would-be independent assassin making an attempt on some well guarded nobles life. He managed to stop the assassin just before the strike was made and was granted an advisory position with all of the resources and privileges in order to aid the champion in more.. House Ta'Lach probably has an abnormal heraldry due to being a Fae house but the Humans would most likely have given them one based on human meanings, and this would have been it

the family Motto:

aeterna praesidio tenebrarum

Roughly translates to Eternal Guard of Darkness

scratch that motto bit this is the motto, it's an actual motto instead of a fucking title:

Tenebras lucem aeternam custodiet

The Darkness shall Guard the Light Eternal

File: 1451979891197.pdf (2.27 MB,BrokenNationBuilder0.17.co….pdf)

Updated PDF including updated Vassal rules, including how to buy them during the game, how to upgrade them, and how they can be applied to actions.

Multiple units on one action have diminishing returns, considering buffing the effect of unity quantity over all. Basically, in conflicts, unit quantity is a quality all of it's own, but on specific high priority missions, such as those represented by your 2-4 actions per turn, quality is more important than quantity.

Unit upgrades are explained in detail, as well as how to generate oaths during Gameplay and what they represent. Further, I explain the only method to gain a constant supply of oaths.

Something I forgot to mention. Oaths will occasionally be necessary for certain kinds of actions, or you'll need to spend an oath to get into certain events, these will be fairly rare, but it's probably a good idea to keep at least one Universal Oath in your back pocket for when you're in a tight spot.

one issue. the last eastern nation to break away from the Central Empire would have been over a century ago. The acts of rebellion would have centuries ago still. That's not to say they couldn't have ruled over their own little nation amongst the Eastern Nations until deposed and he's come back to seek his birth right.

Race: The Iron Forged

Just as the Iron God is but the youngest of the now powerful dieties, so too the Iron Forged are the youngest of the race. For they are one of the few whose birth was not only witnessed, but influenced by the mortal races of the current.

Originating from Southern Isles, the Iron Forged are living, sentient, and intelligent humanoid constructs, akin to golems but far more mechanically advanced and elaborate, and were created by some of the best enchanters and inventors the South had to offer.. What separates them is their core, or “battery”, a highly charged piece of a rare and purified magical metal which radiates with a fierce and pulsing energy, which the Iron Forged say is the manifestation of their soul. Iron Forged have a distinct uniqueness in that it is the core, not the body, that make them. They are able to switch out parts and pieces at will, heads and limbs or even a lack of them, adding or removing new parts as necessary, thus it is often that you will rarely find a single Iron Forged the same as the other. So long as there is a direct connection to the battery, an Iron Forged can function. The Iron Forged have a near perfect memory, as their minds do not seem to be dulled by forgetfulness such as creatures of flesh are wont to do.

The Iron Forged say that their souls are shards or parts of Iron God himself, who inspired the inventors and enchanters of the Southern Isle to create them. Though their habit of switching out parts means few of them are exactly alike, almost all Iron Forged share the same trait in that they are humanoid in shape. The Iron God created man in his image, thus the Iron Forged are created in the image of man as well. The more doubtful simply purport they are but merely shadows of the collective gestalt of the belief in the Iron God, or a highly advanced enchantment meant to replicate intelligent function.

Whatever the case, the Iron Forged truly believe themselves to have a direct connection to the Iron God, and furthermore claim that all things mechanical and industrial have “Machine Spirits”, everything from a simple hammer, to a loom, all the way to a mighty ship.

The Iron Forge say they are able to speak to the machine spirit, hear it's voice in the creaking of wood or the moaning of metal, and this seems to be verified as they are able to detect things about constructions and devices even the most skilled engineers and inventors would miss. From simply standing in proximity an Iron Forged can tell you where and when a bridge will fail, tell you exactly how many holes are in a ships hull today and how many there will be in ten days, where that squeaky noise in the machine is coming from after you oiled it twice. The maintenance and care of machines is to them as of the caring of a life itself, and design and invention is to them as the nurture of a father to his growing child.

Their belief shapes them as a people and a culture, as all believe themselves to be part of the Iron God himself they are very single minded, sharing an instinctual camaraderie with each other, and it is extremely rare to see any Iron Forged at odds with another. As a piece of the Iron God, they reflect everything he embodies, and strive for the perfection of industry, technology, and magical knowledge ever improving their creations and their own bodies. Unburdened by the organic limitations of man, they are free focus on bringing his will into the world.

Name: Ichaival

Position: Freelance Entrepreneur – GM approved courtier agent without a regent. (+1 Universal Oath)

Race: Iron Forged (+1 economic, +1 military)

Spouse Races: Single

Religion: Iron God (+1 Religious, +2 economic, +1 Magic Oath)

Regalia: —

Foes:

Rival (The General) (-1 military, +2 Universal Oath)

Racial Schism (Beastmen) (-1 Universal, -2 economic; +6 Economic)

Eastern Nations (-2 Economic, +4 Universal Oaths)

Plot Twists: Chosen by the Gods

House Fluff:

The Ichaival Company is not a noble house, not even a normal hereditary lineage. Established by Ichaival, it serves as his business within which he does a wide range of profitable enterprises such as technological design, production, and sale as well as other side businesses such as, legal and sanctioned, mercenary and privateer work.

Personal Fluff: Ichaival

Unique among his fellow Iron Forged, Ichaival is one of the few of their kind with a fierce sense of individualism and ambition. While as with all Iron Forged he is imbued with a personal sense of being a part of their god, he himself has come to understand this in a much, much deeper level, beyond any of his fellow brothers could have imagined.

At night, he is filled with dreams. While not uncommon, his are intensely fierce and “as sharp as awareness itself.” He is filled with visions and designs, not whispers but tongues of knowledge hitherto unimagined of the devices and machinations of the Iron God. At first frightened, then intrigued, something far more extraordinary happened.

He could not only speak to the Machine Spirit's as they were . .it felt as though he could hear them in the aether, asking to come into this reality, to be conceived, to be made. A torrent of voices of Machine Spirits like a maelstrom, calling to him on the winds as though willed by the Iron God himself. Empowered by this divine providence, he soon found he was discovering things under their influence, their voices, learning more than he ever could even among those learned in the scientific arts of the Southern Isles, where he almost felt. . .stifled.

Perhaps that is why he finds himself here, in the Central lands, rather than the Iron Isles whence he was forged. All he knows is that since that time it has been his mission to establish himself a resource base, an enterprise not limited by any kingdom or nation that will allow him to freely pursue the task given to him. To craft, to design, and occasionally, to sell and spread the Iron God's will and designs. He would find everything he needed, here, all he had to do was take it.

Owning no ground lands of his own, he benefits from the ability to nest his castle in remote areas, usually remote islands, acting in seclusion while venturing out on his airship which he uses to organize his several connections to distinct other like minded individuals seeking to advance either the sciences, magic, prestige, or profit. All of which serves to provide him with a ready supply to construct his visions.

Letting people know about some rules changes explicitly that might change how you use your oaths.

When applying a Vassal to one of your main actions, you add 2*Vassal Quality Level to the roll, and for the second vassal you add, you throw in -1, for the third vassal, -2, and so on and so forth until you hit -12. Every vassal you add after that point applies -12 to the roll.

What this means is you get more bang for your buck when adding high quality level vassals to a roll than you do throwing LOTS of vassals at an action.

For the purposes of non-conflicted actions, things like gaining oaths, research, improving your lands, quests, etc. You want high quality vassals.

For conflicted actions however, it's the exact opposite. In conflicted actions you roll 1d10*Vassal Quality Level for each participating vassal, and total the number. In addition, for each vassal you out number the enemy by, you gain +1 for the first, +2 for the second, and so on until you hit +5, and then each vassal after that applies another +5 to the roll. In conflicted actions, NUMBERS MATTER! Further, ALLIANCES will combine their unit total for purposes of calculating who out numbers who, and the bonus gained will be split equally among the allies.

This means that in conflicted actions, having a lot of lower powered vassals can turn the tide if you out number the enemy enough, but keep in mind low quality units will sustain heavier casualties if that's a risk, or be more likely to burn out and exhaust their resources in other cases. Basically, you're less likely to LOSE high quality vassals in cases where blood shed might be a problem.

Name: Baron William Turner Thurmin

Position: Courtier to High Preist

Race: Human

Spouse Races: Human

Religion: Church of the Uniter

Foes: The Theists, The Crag Barons

Plot Twists: Commoner’s Blood

House Fluff: House Thurmin is an ancient house and powerful Crag barony with a noble history known for standing proudly in defense of the Empire. In recent time the Thurmin house had fallen on hard times and in an effort to regain it’s former glory sought to engage in open rebellion against the Empire. A young Captain William Turner was set with a token force expected to fail to pacify the family. By appealing to the peasantry of the area that had long suffered the harsh he was able to form a popular rebellion against the House and successfully oust them from power. For completing this task considered suicide by most he was granted the hand of the Thurmin heir Lady Ishel Marxis Thurmin and all the families lands by the Emperor himself. In his efforts to establish a propsperity in his new domains he has attracted many supporters such as Death Knights who sympathize with his efforts in wiping out the undead menaces from beyond the crags and many of the peasantry who view this commoner turned baron who is a symbol of greater things for the common people.

Personal Fluff: William Turner was born in a small hamlet on the imperial province. His mother died in childbirth and his father took up drink not long after. At the age of 14 he ran from home and joined up with the Imperial army under service of Lord Blackholm. William was quick to rise in the ranks with his tenacity and savage combat skills, this grew into a intense rivalry with the resident nobility who viewed him as a commoner that had grown to big for his britches. After rising to the rank of Captain, William slew Lord Blackholm’s son in a sanctioned duel. In his fury Lord Blackholm commanded William on suicide mission to the against the Crag Barons. Pulling off the impossible William was given the Barony by the Emperor further enraging Lord Blackholm. With his new position of power and Lord Blackholm and the Crag Barons who newly resented this up jumped commoner who now controlled a noble house he was in need of new allies. He was soon approached by the newly instated High Priest. In exchange for the High Priest’s patronage he would help build his personal army to police the other religious authority’s and official without having to go through the army or the justice system. This has lead to no love for Baron William among the clergy who love nothing more then to rid themselves of the High Priest's attack dog. With the death of the Emperor William prepares to face the new trials and the battles that sure to come.

Lvl 10 Law Keeper- Lord Captain Zakon Golman, keeper of the Capital Guard- A rather elderly, but hard featured man with a sharp look in his storm grey eyes, Captain Zakon has kept watch over the Capital of the Empire before even the last Emperor had came to reign. He has seen every crime, every murder, every plot possible, and through it all, he has endured. Although he is just the keeper of the Guard, and a lord in his own right, it seems that the Aserveti and the Golman family have a relationship due to their common goal: The protection of the Emperor, albeit for the Golman family, the protection of his people as well. However, it is clear that the Aserveti, bearing the prestige and direct loyalty to emperor, has the Golman lineage mostly under their sway, and thus so do they have the defenders of the Capital as well.

[2x] Manticore-Reginald- Occasionally, things get messy. And it is the Maid's job to clean such messes. And there is hardly a more a effective cleaning tool than that of the deadly Manticore. A tradition secretly passed from Aserveti to Aserveti, the creation of the Fae born Manticore and their tentative keeping has always been a part of their darker side. While some may argue the ethical stand point of its living, there is no doubt in its raw killing power and ability to carry out the Emperor's darker orders.

Dice rollRolled 25 (1d100)

Name:Scaevitas (Aka Vitas or Tas) Regibus

Position: Champion

Race:Nephilim

Sister's Race: Nephilim (not a spouse)

Religion:The Draconic Kings

Regalia:Glaive

Foes:Rival Regalia

Plot Twists:Personal Prowess. Ancient infrastructure

House Fluff: House Regibus for a long time was the most powerful house of the nephilim exerting unparalleled control over Neph politics. Commanding from their Ancient mountain citadel. Many of the Neph viewed them as the true leaders of the race. They were in fact responsible for the Nephilim finally caving and joining the empire.

Since the day they joined until recently house Regibus was responsible for keeping balance and the continued loyalty of the Neph to the empire. Curbing the worst of Neph's violent tendancies and generally making sure things didn't get out of hand. This changed only 40 years ago. The leaders of House Regibus rebelled seeking freedom from the empire. At the time the first born son held the position of champion of the empire.

His betrayal was a political disaster for the emperor. However this was all stopped when the younger brother was placed in charge of the force sent to quell the rebellion. He was successful in doing so and killing the heads of the house and the former champion. Along with the majority of the personal troops of the house.

This event left the house broken and weak. It has struggled to survive at all since. Many no longer consider it a noble house despite the emperor's pardon given to it after the rebellion. Many question how a house was allowed to exert the level of power Regibus once had. But many more question what will happen with the Neph now that nothing is balancing them and uniting them in service to the empire.

The only surviving members of this house with noble blood are the second son Scaevitas and the daughter Fides.

Personal Fluff: Scaevitas Regibus was the second born son of house Regibus. Folling in his brothers footsteps he joined the royal guard and was renowned for being a great fighter. He always took second to his brother but such things were natural. He trained hard and did well in the guard believing service to the emperor to be the greatest thing he could ever do. He was awestruck when he was detained by his brothers in arms one day. Word had reached the capital of his family's betrayal. Something he was not aware of. His older brother had fled the capital to lead house Regibus's armies alongside their father.

The emperor took a chance and gave command of the royal guard to Scaevitas and ordered him to put down the rebellion at any cost. Scaevitas did so. He caught his brother and his forces outside the citadel. Outnumbered 5-1 Vitas's chances seemed slim. But he was able to cut a path through to his brother. Their fight was short and brutal. Through sheer luck and maybe by the divine will of the dragons Vitas was able to slay his brother but only at severe cost. During the fight a rogue slash from his brother had maimed him of his…..Male pride. The procedure would later be completed by a doctor leaving him functioning but unable to reproduce. After the death of his brother house Regibus's army was heavily demoralized and most of the troops surrendered or fled Shortly after.

Scaevitas was able to enter the citadel with little to no resistance. He captured his parents and had them formally executed the next day before a crowd of thousands of Nephilim and the remainder of the Imperial guard. Vitas did not stop there. He hunted down the remainder of what was now his House's soldiers and had 14 of every 15 executed for high treason.

Upon returning to the emperor Vitas was officially promoted to champion. His noble house was forgiven the sin of treason and both he and his sister were declared innocent of any crimes. This left Vitas firmly under the control of the emperor and inside burned a loyalty bordering on zealotry. All he had left was his duties. His house was in ruins. Most of his family dead. He had to believe the price he paid was worth it and zealotry was a shield against his doubts.

The death of the emperor hit Vitas particularly hard. He felt he was responsible even though he had done exactly as the champion should. He knows there was nothing he could do to stop the storm. He knows he could not disobey the emperor's order to go ahead and clear the landing site. He knows that he is not at fault for the death of the only person in the empire besides his sister that he felt any connection to. But none of that knowledge helps at night when your soul is laid bare to your subconscious.

Name: Baron William Turner Thurmin

Position: Courtier to High Preist

Race: Human

Spouse Races: Human

Religion: Church of the Uniter

Foes: Rival (General), Racial Schism (Beastmen), The Crag Barons

At the age of 14 he ran from home and joined up with the Imperial army under service of the beastman Lord Blackholm. William was quick to rise in the ranks with his tenacity and savage combat skills, this grew into a intense rivalry with the resident beastmen nobility who viewed him as a human commoner that had grown to big for his britches. After rising to the rank of Captain, William slew Lord Blackholm’s son in a sanctioned duel. In his fury Lord Blackholm commanded William on suicide mission to the against the Crag Barons. Through these actions William first found a distaste for those Beastmen butchers who care little for human life common or noble. Pulling off the impossible William was given the Barony by the Emperor further enraging Lord Blackholm. With his new position of power, the threats only grew as Lord Blackholm and the Crag Barons who newly resented this up jumped commoner who now controlled a noble house, threatened him at every turn. He was soon approached by the newly instated High Priest. He would join this new faction and gain social protection in exchange for his use as the churches attack dog in times of conflict. As William began to immerse himself in the politics of the Empire following the High Priests every move, a hate grew in his heart for the current Lord General of the Empire, Ilves Tassu who openly promoted his agenda of beastman advancement. Being commoner like William only seemed to push this hatred further, it seemed he had not earned his seat but gained it through nepotism. William swore he would see their whole race brought low

An ancient organization that was founded shortly after the Empire was, based around drawing small portions of power away from the Fae Lords and the other Divine entities for their own uses. The Sigil has since grown to a massive shadowy organization, spoken of in whispers and rumors. Their existence is an open secret that most try not to think about, using tales of the Sigil to scare children into behaving. Why they have sworn allegiance to the house of Ta'Lach is unknown to any but the upper echelons of the Sigil and the House themselves, but those who have heard such rumors agree that it makes both infinitely more dangerous.

The HIMSV Dreadnaught. One of the largest and most powerful airships of the line ever built, a much younger Ilves Tassu once remarked to his best friend that he was once fascinated by it, seeing it in passing over the land on some mission or another. It was that he might have had a chance to serve on it that he joined the Imperial Army, but was saddened to learn that only the cream of the cream - which Ilves would never be, under Imperial policies of the time - were allowed to serve a tour on the Dreadnaught. He explained to his best friend that he had resigned to that fact now, but had a resolve to see one of his eventual children serve upon her.

It wasn't until much later that Ilves friend turned out to be a young Crown Prince of the Empire, incognito and learning from being part of the military. It was then that the lynx's world was turned upside down, and he was elevated to a world he thought would not be his line's until his grandchildren.

In the confusing whirlwind that followed, Ilves forgot about his off comment to his Brother. His Brother never did, and when the Emperor, now crowned and reigning, elevated Ilves to the High Generalship of the Empire, he also gave Ilves command of the then-aged Dreadnaught, that it was "At the service of General Ilves Tassu for as long as he serves the Empire".

Over the course of the next years, Ilves lovingly oversaw the refit of the Dreadnaught, sparing no expense to keep it in top shape with the best engines and weapons of the Empire. Defending his expenditures, he stated that the Dreadnaught was on loan, not his personal property. That it was at service to him as long as he served the Empire - and when that was done it would go to the next High General, or the Reigning Emperor to dispense as he chose.

That ultimately, the Dreadnaught was a weapon and tool for war, for destroying other airships, for providing fire support to troops, to being a mobile base from which General Ilves Tassu could oversee the destruction of his Brother's enemies, and the defense of his Brother's Empire.
