Women will only be jailed for serious crimes, Justice Secretary reveals
Women should no longer be sent to prison unless they have committed a serious crime, the Justice Secretary says today, as he unveils a "step change" in the way the justice system deals with female offenders.
Ministers want to "break the cycle" of sending women to jail after it emerged less than 40 women behind bars in England and Wales have committed a violent offence and most others are serving just a few months for crimes like shoplifting.

"What remains if you peel away all those things that help you think you know who you are? If one by one you strip away your cultural choices, the validation you get from the company of your peer group, the tools you use for communication? Then what is left behind? If you had asked me that three or four years earlier, when I was just arriving at Penlan, I imagine that I would have guessed: your true self. But I soon found that in fact I rapidly became less and less self-aware; my attention was elsewhere, on the outside. And now that circumstances had forced me to look inward once again, it was to discover that there was perhaps no fixed self to find."

I don't get how I liked music like this so much when I was 17. It's not like I was doing it for attention because I was too ashamed to tell anyone I liked it. It's really just shit.
To be honest I still kind of like it but I think it's only because I was so obsessed with grindcore shit back then that the love has just lasted.

I went to my grandad's birthday party the other day, other than that I've just been in my room on my computer as always. Got my hands on Roland's various VSTs a couple of weeks ago, been toying with them a lot ever since. I've always had an affinity for the D-50 and JV series sounds, but there was no software that could properly emulate them until recently, so I'm chuffed. They've also got a Sound Canvas plugin, emulating their classic line of General MIDI sound modules that a lot of game soundtracks from the early-mid 90s were designed with, and I've managed to set it up in such a way that all MIDI on my PC runs through it.

I get along with her, yeah. I used to stay at my paternal grandparents house every weekend from the age of 7 to my mid-teens, and then every other weekend into adulthood, as my dad lived with them for about 15 years after his divorce, so I was around them a lot. They've both moved to separate places since then (still within a couple of miles of each other), but I do still see them every couple of months. They're in good health right now, at least as much as you can be at their age, but I do dread the day when that inevitably changes. My grandma's younger brother and uncle both passed away a few months ago, so thoughts of that nature have been playing on my mind a lot lately.

Individual chords mean very little until they're following or followed by other chords. Em7 followed by A7, or sandwiched between a Dm7 and EbM7 can sound great, whereas an Em7 into DbM7 usually sounds quite dissonant. But if you change the context and slap a CM7 after the DbM7, it makes for a nice jazzy cadence. So with every chord, it all depends on what's come before, and what's coming next. It's like individual colour values, on their own they don't mean anything, but when they're surrounded by other colours, they're given a context, and they can be deemed good or bad.

I'm not the one complaining about the board being dead. We have pretty much the same number of regulars as we did a year or two ago, and we've had many quiet weeks/months like this in the past, yet here we are, so I'm not bothered. I've always held the opinion that I'd rather have no posts than shit posts, and I'll always choose to pass on replying to anyone deperately trying to force "board activity" using weak bait, non sequiturs, and bizarre roleplay, rather than give it any validation.

Currently, ~85% of the male population of United Earth are registered incels; according to ultra-reaxxtionaries hiding in the deepest of datastreams that number is closer to 95%, if you don't count trannies as getting laid. This coagulation of XY chromosomes, faced with the living nightmare of ontological obsolescence, are only breathing unthanks to the efforts of █████. █████, a secret government organisation founded in 54 with the goal of producing and perfecting waifus to keep these pathetic workdrones off the metaphysical Mapo bridge in the current gynotopia. I first played it in early 2011 just before they added beds, and I stopped playing it regularly around the time of the "adventure update". Since then I've dipped into it a handful of times, but not substantially until the last year or so. There's still a lot of stuff in survival that I've never seen or done.

Just had a look at the versions released to see what version I would have first played, and as such the date. 0.0.19a would have been when I first downloaded the game, as this was the version before they added cloth and I remember that being added in. I also don't remember the game not having a hotbar, which was added in 0.0.19a.
Interestingly they were both released on the same day, so I may have literally downloaded it without wool in the morning and seen the update that evening.
I was playing alongside some people I knew from a Pokemon forum at the time, this was back on June 20 2009. We played a bunch in creative mode but had no real interest in survival.

Supposedly, I think it was mostly just media making much ado about nothing for the sake of clicks, but I can imagine the reality of those places does slap naive tourists pretty hard. It's their own fault really, you can't expect a major city to be anything other than a shithole with a few token historical bits dotted around a soulless concrete jungle. With a small bit of research, they could have had a lovely time in the countless actual idyllic towns and villages that the UK and Europe as a whole has to offer, where the air is cleaner, the people are nicer, and things aren't nearly as expensive.

As far as I researched, you can pay monthly to a service that specialises in minecraft servers, and they'll set it all up for you and give you an interface to work with, otherwise you have to pay for server space some other way and set it all up yourself. The main factor to take into account seemed to be the allotment of RAM they give you, which will dictate how many people you can host at once and how many server-based mods you can run. Mojang have their own "realms" thing, but apparently it's more expensive and not as good as using a third party service.

My colleague told me quite an amusing story.
When he moved into his new house, it was just a standard terraced house with no back garden and just a concrete yard. In the middle of it was a rectangular brick structure about 3ft high. He wanted it gone because it was weird, but he was mostly curious about what was inside, he was hoping it was going to be some kind of time capsule or just something interesting.
Inside were two dead dogs. It was a pet grave. He had to call the council to remove the two decomposing dogs from this weird brick shrine.

We're only "dying" in the sense that we've not been posting much recently for whatever reason, but we still have the same number of people visiting here as we did two years ago. You can see this by looking at the recent minecraft poll, which got 8 votes. Assuming nobody voted twice, that's consistent with almost every non-manipulated and non-crossposted poll we've done for the last 2 and a half years.

I'm alright lad. I bought myself an analogue synthesizer about 3 weeks ago, Behringer Neutron for £260 (and that's new, not second hand), so I've mainly been playing around with that. It really is a quality bit of kit, all metal chassis, solid metal shaft pots, and it sounds excellent. You couldn't get anything like this from anyone else without at least adding another 0 onto the price, the price-hiking bastards.

Nice to hear from you mate, I'm glad you got over the shit that was bothering you back then. I'm slowly getting better too, my depression is getting less severe, and I don't drink much at all anymore. Things kind of came to a head in late 2017 when I was drinking a litre of gin a day and when I stopped I got delirium tremens and had to spend four or five days in hospital, gave me some much needed perspective. The plan now is to go back to uni this year only to actually study instead of drinking and doing drugs alone in my room all day and going weeks without eating, looking forward to it.
>>70554
That is a seriously nice looking bit of kit. As an aside though, it kind of triggers me that anything that uses a particle for it's naming always fucks up the image. Like seriously, this thing is called a neutron yet it's using some mystery atom with one proton and three electrons for its logo, has anyone ever heard of something like this existing? Protonmail also does a similar thing, where their loading screen logo is an electron whizzing around a single nucleic particle, presumably proton, which is a lot more forgiveable because it's a depiction of protium, the most common hydrogen isotope. Electron, the software development tool, also does the same shit. One proton orbitted by three electrons. I'll never understand.

Today I walked past some teenage girls who were sitting on some grass and their bikes were on the side of the pavement, not in the way. One of them shouted at me "sorry about the bikes.. person" and they laughed at me. I'm still here lad. Despite having a bit of a drinking problem back in Uni, and being unable to leave bed some days I'm doing quite well now.
I gave up getting drunk completely on December 1st last year, I've had a few pints since but I haven't been drunk. No more than 3 pints in a day. I've also taken a healthier approach to life, and it's going well for me, all I'm drinking is water now.
I don't feel anxious anymore, and while my job isn't something that inspires passion in me, I don't feel hopeless. I could honestly say I'm the happiest I've ever been.

I'm glad to hear it! I've been borderline drunk one time this year, and other than that I've been more or less doing the same as you, usually 1-2 pints no more than once or twice a week, this month it's been even less. I'm inclined to pretty drastic fluctuations in mood, but when I take a depressive dive it usually only lasts a day or even less, when it used to last for months before. I'm not satisfied with my current station in life and have ambitions and goals that I want to realise, but I think it's fair to say I too am at the happiest I've been since I was a child.

Any group of I, IV, V, and vi will give you the infamous "four chords", so if you're playing in the key of C Major for example, that'd be:
>C Major, F Major, G Major, A minor
or in G major:
>G Major, C Major, D Major, E minor
Remember to limit yourself to only playing them as power chords and/or bar chords, otherwise it won't be shit punk.

A cheap acoustic guitar is probably too much, just steal one off a homeless man, or stick some elastic bands around a tissue box.
Your voice needs to be really fucked, what id suggest is holding some whiskey in your throat for as long as you can, swallow it but not all the way. It helps to start the day with some.
My suggestion for recording would be to buy a old Sony Erikson phone. Since the company is now defunct, you can't be accused of selling out, you can use that to record some music.

Well, I couldn't access a large portion of my room because there was so much stuff stacked up, and a lot of dust had built up over the years. I've been planning to replace my desks, but couldn't do so with all the stuff in the way. The way the desks are now leaves me too cramped in my little PC corner, and the small desk with my PC on it is currently only held up by a small block of industrial foam wedged between this desk and my other one. If I removed the foam, the desk would collapse, because I had to remove the central supports to fit my monster PC down there.

There's not a much more to say about it other than "it's a synth", with a cheesy "bouncy" sounding patch similar to a lot of pop songs of the day (i.e. "Billy Ocean - When The Going Gets Tough", "Michael Jackson - The Way You Make Me Feel"). Later on in the track a real bass guitar gets layered on top of it, and that's about it.
The real redpill is that the original 12" / maxi CD release of Like A Prayer contained alternate mixes that were less cheesy and superior to the original, like the "Churchapella".

The TL;DR is "because harmony and harmonics are maths and physics", but I'll try and break it down for you from the very beginning in this absolute essay because I think it's an interesting subject. Keep in mind that this is mostly all naturally occurring phenomena, with a couple of thousand years' worth of man-made ways and conventions to describe them, so don't get too caught up with all the seemingly arbitrary terminology. The phenomena can be understoond without knowing all of the words and symbols commonly used to convey them.
—
Sound is created by physical objects vibrating, which causes compressions and rarefactions in air pressure. When something repeatedly goes back and forth between two states (like the case with sound as it compresses, rarefacts, compresses, rarefacts, …), we describe it as "oscillating".
A note refers to a sound that has a definable "fundamental frequency", meaning a certain element of the sound oscillates at a constant, measurable rate. Let's take the "A" note above "middle C", which at concert pitch (an arbitrarily agreed upon standard, not a natural principle), oscillates 440 times a second, or 440 Hertz (Hz). With any given frequency, multiples of that frequency will align perfectly with it over time; these are defined as "harmonics". I'll try to cover a little bit of the harmonic series, or at least how it relates to music, as this is fairly crucial to understanding how chords work internally, and why they are harmonious:
—
So going back to 440 Hz (let's consider this tone our "Tonic", which is a musical theory term for "root note"). A frequency of 880 Hz (exactly 2 times 440) will fit into 440 Hz exactly twice. The "interval" (distance between one note and another) between any given frequency, and one that is exactly double, is described in music theory as being an "Octave". For simplicity's sake, we give these notes the same letter; so if 440 Hz is A, then 880 Hz is also A, as is 220 Hz (440 divided by 2) and 1760 Hz (880 times 2). When these notes are played at the same time, it sounds "perfect"; there is no perceivable "beating" (or "dissonance", the opposite of harmony) whatsoever, and they are in near perfect "unison", so it is therefore the Octave is considered the most "harmonious" of intervals.
A frequency of 1320 Hz (3 times 440 Hz) will fit into 440 exactly 3 times, and this is described as being the "Dominant", or a "perfect fifth interval" in the "diatonic scale" (the diatonic scale is the standard 7-tone musical scale, commonly labelled as A through G. If A = 1st, B = 2nd, …, then E = 5th, so that's the fifth interval relative to A. It sits right in the middle of a Tonic and its Octave). This is second most perfect interval, and it also does not have any perceivable beating when played alongside the Tonic, which is why it gets called the "perfect 5th".
A frequency that is 4 times our Tonic, is another Octave. It's exactly double the previous Octave (which was 2 times the Tonic, 4 is double 2), so it is also considered the same note, only at a higher pitch.
A frequency that is 5 times our Tonic is described as the "Mediant", or the "Major 3rd". This sits right in the middle of our Tonic and our Dominant, our 1st and our 5th. It is less perfect than the previous intervals, so it doesn't get that label, but it is still very harmonious and has hardly any beating. When played together with our 1st and 5th, we get our first chord, the "Major chord". It sounds harmonious, because it uses the two most perfect intervals found in the naturally occurring harmonic series. If we were to have C as our Tonic, the Dominant would be G, and the Mediant would be E.
Next is 6 times the Tonic, which is called the "Subtonic", or "minor 7th". This sits between the 5th and the octave, and sounds a little less harmonious than the previous intervals. When played alongside a Major chord, we call it a "Dominant 7th" chord. This is still harmonious, but sounds like it needs resolving.
With 7 times the Tonic, you get the "Leading Tone", or "Major 7th", which sits between the minor 7th and the octave. When played alongside a Major chord, we get a "Major 7th" chord. This is harmonious, but wasn't particularly useable until relatively modern times due to the way notes were tuned, but that's a whole other story.
8 times the Tonic is, as you might have already guessed, another octave, being exactly double the previous one.

As you go on, the harmonics between the multiples of ones we've previously covered becomes increasingly less harmonious. In the diatonic scale we've defined the 1st, 3rd, 5th, major 7th, and the 8th (the octave), so that only leaves the major 2nd, perfect 4th, and the 6th, all of which you'll soon find as you keep going up the harmonic series. If we start from C as our Tonic, the diatonic scale makes up all the white notes on the keyboard, so suddenly their layout and spacing shouldn't seem so arbitrary. If you're wondering why the perfect 4th is named as such, it's because the 4th and the Octave make a 5th interval (In C, look at the relationship between F and the C above; it's the same as C and the G above), so it sounds just as perfect as the perfect 5th.
In the "chromatic scale", there are 12 tones, and it includes all the previous, plus a minor 2nd, minor 3rd, augmented 4th / diminished 5th, and the minor 6th. If you start from C, these are the black notes on the keyboard, also known as the "accidentals". These aren't very harmonious at all for the most part. The augmented 4th / diminished 5th, also known as the "Tritone", is the most dissonant interval. It is just about the furthest from harmonious you can possibly get, and it sounds horrible alongside the Tonic.
Now the harmonic series goes on infinitely, but the harmonics get closer and closer together as you go further along. Notes that are too close to other notes sound redundant to our ears, so Western Music settled on 12 tones as being enough. The point at which notes are considered to be redundant varies from culture to culture however, there's music in India that has as many as 22 tones, and music in Africa that has as little as 5.
—
Chords, simply put, are combinations of notes played simultaneously, that work together to invoke different feelings, moods, and ideas. Using what we now know about harmonics and how they make up our musical intervals, we can see that different collections of notes will have audibly (and measurably, this is not subjective) different characteristics to others, based on how harmonious they are to a given root note. We can see why a Major chord (1st + Major 3rd + perfect 5th : C, E, G) sounds more perfect and harmonious than say, a diminished 7th (1st + minor 3rd + tritone + Major 6th : C, E flat, G flat, A). If you were to pick notes at random, there's a good chance you'd be picking notes that don't work together harmonically, and sound dissonant, as the various tones conflict and beat against eachother.
The next level is applying the same knowledge in order to understand more complex chords, and learning how stringing together different series of chords will invoke different feelings and moods based on how the intervals of one chord relate to the next. That's obviously a much vaster topic, and it gets a lot more subjective, so it's difficult to cover without writing a literal book or two, unless you want to know something specific.
Hopefully that wasn't too convoluted, and helped uncover some of the mystery surrounding notes, chords, and music.

Correction: 6 times the tonic is obviously the same as 3 times the tonic but an octave up. 7 times the tonic is the "harmonic 7th", which sits between the diatonic "Subtonic" and "Leading Tone". My descriptions of those are still accurate, just not their placement.

>I'm just confused why playing notes in a certain order can make a song, but playing other notes in a certain order will just sound like a mess
When you have certain notes in a certain order, we call it a "melody". Melodies only make musical sense to us when they abide by the principles of harmony I laid out above. The most common technique in writing a melody is to simply move up or down a particular scale, one note to the next. Take "Ode to Joy" for example, if I play it in the key of C, the first few notes are "E E F G G F E D C C D E E, D D". Every note neighbours the next in the Major scale, with the occasional repeated note just so it makes more rhythmic sense.
The next most common technique is to move up and down by notes within a chord. Take the very start of Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nachtmusick" for a perfect example (look it up, you'll immediately recognise it). It's just the notes contained within G Major, followed by the notes within D dominant 7th. You can also leap by larger intervals, although this is typically used more sparingly than the previous two techniques, and hardly at all the further you go back into Western music history. In the days of Gregorian chants, they virtually only ever moved by single steps up and down a scale, and that's a large part of its defining characteristics.
Using a combination of those three techniques to move around a scale, and changing the scale you're using when it makes harmonic sense to, is virtually all you need to start composing good melodies, whether it's Classical, Jazz, or Pop/Contemporary. It's rarely ever a case of pulling notes out of a hat and hoping for the best; even people who don't know a thing about music theory will be using all of the above principles and techniques, simply because they've learned to speak the language of music through experience, without dissecting or analysing it.
>Also, how is it that some songs can sound "sad" and some "happy"?
From my research, the emotions we associate with certain intervals, chords, or progressions, is predominantly cultural, and not an inherent property of the sound itself. For example, there are many cultures that heavily use the minor 2nd interval (D flat in relation to C), but in Western music its hardly ever used, except in music that most western listeners would deem highly "exotic", so as cultures we obviously interpret it in different ways.
However, there are still ways that the natural properties of the sound do play into our emotions, such as going from less harmonic chords to more harmonic chords. Music is all about "tension" and "release", and we can use the harmonic makeup of certain chords to convey that, like G dominant 7th into C Major, or E diminished 7th into F minor. Additionally, we can make use of timbral (textural; soft vs hard, piano vs trumpet, etc.) and rhythmic differences; playing soft and slow will likely invoke feelings such as sadness, sorrow, sentimentalism, or tranquility, whereas playing hard and fast can sound joyful, energetic, frantic, or crazy.
This is a lot more my opinion than anything else, but I believe this is because of how the sounds relate to core parts of our human experience, such as heart rate and pace of our physical movement. A quiet stroll through a meadow puts us in a very different state to fleeing from danger, and the timbre and rhythm of music can reflect those feelings back at us.

Doesn't work at all lad, unless you meant G Major, and even then it sounds incoherent and directionless. If you rearrange it, you get the fairly common Pop/Rock chord progression of C Major, E Major, A minor, and then it would usually be followed by either an F Major or a D minor. You can use the G Major whenever you want to "come back home" to either C Major or A minor.

I've had Soul Reaver on PS1 since I was a kid, I remember buying it at the shop around 18 years ago, but I never beat it until just now. The ending is absolute shite it unironically ends on a cliffhanger where the "final boss" gets away mostly unscathed, and then it just cuts to a "to be continued…" and a credits roll. Good job there's a direct sequel or I'd be really pissed off, but otherwise it's a great game. I rate it a flawed masterpiece.

I played many hours of it yesterday; it is indeed technically impressive, more so than any other FPS I've tried. The mid 2000s seemed like a time, at least on PC with stuff like HL2 and STALKER, where developers actually had ambition rather than just following convention. I especially like the dust effects generated from gunfights, never seen anything like that before.

From the days of graphic adventure games through to the release of Crysis it was pretty much a race to see who could pull off the most realistic graphics and implement as many nifty little "developers really thought of everything" features as possible. It died once the whole "AAA" thing started, former PC platform devs began primarily targeting the aging 7th gen consoles rather than the latest and greatest PC hardware, as well as trying to capture the "casual" market (AKA lowest common denominator normalfags that watch lots of telly and films) instead of technology freaks like us that had been regularly buying games for years up to that point.
To really put it in perspective, F.E.A.R. came out 14 years ago as of 2019. 14 years before 2005 was 1991, the same year Sonic the Hedgehog 1 came out, and when the best graphics were found in arcades or on the Amiga. There's no game on this planet in 2019 that comes anywhere near making F.E.A.R. look or play as primitive as an Amiga game did in 2005.

Unequivocally false, the only keyboard instrument that has a fighting chance against the bass guitar in the funk olympics is the Clavinet. It's raw and it's got bite, unlike a Hammond which, even when overdriven, is too clean and smooth to get down and dirty like a Clavinet can.

The worse fact for me is that the original is apparently nearly 20 years old. "20 years ago" still makes me think of the mid-80s, not the bloody year 2000. Next year, the PS2 will turn the same age that Pac-Man was when the PS2 came out, for christ's sake. It's just not on lads, somebody has got to do something about this.

The time between present day and the release of GTA Vice City, is longer than the time between the release of Vice City and the time the game is actually set (1986).
If a GTA game were to be released with the same amount of time period going back as Vice City was, it would only be set in 2003.

When I worked in retail I was put on "disciplinary action" and was threatened to have my bonus taken away due to my lack of smiling and proper interaction with customers.
If they just asked me nicely, I probably would have put more effort into my job but I'm incapable of doing anything if someone tells me to do it. I'm far too stubborn.
On one occason, they took me into the meeting room and the managment tried to give me lessons on how to smile properly. It was quite humiliating when they kept telling me I wasn't doing it properly.
It's amazing how I was never fired from that job. I got in a fight with a warehouse lad and one one occasion came into work drunk and fell asleep with absolutely no issues but they made a massive deal about smiling and chatting.

What are we all up to this evening then.
My computer recently stopped working, and at first I was quite upset, but I've been happier and more productive since it happened and am starting to think it might be a blessing in disguise. I've just finished putting up two Peter Scott original paintings on my wall, which were given to me by my mum, who got them off a friend who goes to autions. Now I'm in the process of putting away all my computer stuff to make space on my desk, which I'll be using to read at. After that I'll probably play my guitar for a bit, and maybe even have a cheeky glass of water. Speaking of water, I recently made 8pm the cutoff because I've been getting up far too much in the night to piss. Do you lads do that, or do you sleep right through?

Due to his own original special nature, the Jew cannot possess a religious institution, if for no other reason because he lacks idealism in any form, and hence belief in a hereafter is absolutely foreign to him.
And a religion in the Aryan sense cannot be imagined which lacks the conviction of survival after death in some form.
Indeed, the Talmud is not a book to prepare a man for the hereafter, but only for a practical and profitable life in this world.

A lot of the time, senior poo inspectors are paid only pennies more an hour than the regular poo inspectors, but are expected to inspect a lot more poo, and make sure that others are properly inspecting poo themselves.
In cases like this, it's in no way worth doing it. If however, there's a lot less inspecting poo but just more making sure others are inspecting poo correctly, then as long as you're okay with that dynamic with people who were formerly your peers, I'd say go for it.
It's also worth considering whether it would mean working extra hours, and do you think the extra pay (if there is any) is worth that time. I'm personally of the opinion that generally it's not, and only tend to do overtime when I think the poo is particularly important and really needs inspecting. Note that sometimes the extra time worked isn't always obvious, and sometimes despite it never being clearly stated, you'll be expected to inspect poo on your breaks due to your seniority.

They're probably all PAL region, and thus the majority of them will play 20% slower than they're supposed to, with the wrong aspect ratio, fucked up reencoded stuttery/inverse-telecined FMVs, and don't have any of the cool spine art on the cases that the NTSC releases have. PAL region games are one step away from being bootlegs in my opinion, in fact they're arguably worse. We really got the short end of the stick during the SDTV years, as far as I'm aware only the Xbox, Gamecube, and Wii had proper universal PAL60 modes that ran games at the correct speed.
What you could do is sell all the discs (or at least all the ones that are 50 Hz only), then softmod your PS2 with FMCB to play NTSC "backups". 99% of games will run on OPL (Open PS2 Loader, homebrew that can run games off a hardrive or network connection) or ESR (homebrew that runs "backup" discs) without issue. I think there's only one game out of the forty or so that I own that doesn't work with either method, namely Shadow Man: 2econd Coming.

True, I couldn't imagine having a small penis. A lot of men have erections the same size as we are flaccid, and that's hilarious. It's weird how it can vary so much from person to person, regardless of height, despite other body parts always being roughly the same size proportionally. I've always wondered if there's something specific that some men do / don't do during childhood or adolesence that heavily impacts it, like diet or sleep posture or something.

It was very nice. It had quite the kick–I've had scotch bonnet raw before, and it was a bit too much–but cooking it tempered it to just the right heat for me. I couldn't really taste any difference between the fresh and powdered turmeric, but it did taste zestier and fruiter than usual which I presume was because I used fresh and not powdered ginger.

Anyone else seriously dislike dogs?
I hate going into the house of someone who owns a dog and they immediately start sniffing and slobbering on you or even worse, trying to jump up. I hate their pathetic needyness.
I don't know how people like smelly attention despirate beasts that puke, shit and shed hair everywhere
Dog owners are even worse, they have a habbit of letting them on beds and on furniture with no concern that their dirty beast is rubbing it's filthy anus over everything.
They never follow leash laws, leave their disgusting beast's shit all over parks and woods for people to step in. I mean, how many fucking times in my life have I had to scrape dog shit off my shoes, why is this normal? There's a dog next door and EVERY fucking time I start my car it hears the engine and starts barking, sometimes it goes into the back garden and just fucking barks non stop
It's the dogs AND owners I hate.
Dog Cons
>shits everywhere and you have to clean it up (how fucking humiliating, cleaning up the feces of a beast)
>makes the most annoying, awful sound on the planet known as a "bark"
>sheds hair everywhere and basically just ruins houses
>smells like your grandmother's washing machine that hasn't been cleaned since 2003
>have to take hours of time out of your day to walk them
>disgust guests by smearing their wet, gross noses over their thighs
Dog Pros
>they're a good companion for autistic children

I wouldn't say I hate them, but I don't particularly like them either. I've never had a dog or spent much time around them, so I don't really know how to interact with them. I remember going to my great auntie's house once and she had a massive black dog that went absolutely batshit when we turned up, he was legging it round the house and jumping at us. Freaked me out a bit, been wary of them ever since.
Don't really like cats either, I went to my mum's mate's house as a kid, and her cat came up to me and scratched my hand while I was minding my own business watching Mousehunt.

My aunt used to have this hypersexual female husky that would lick it's own vagina all the time whilst making snorty moaning noises. It would steal pillows and hump the fuck out of them too.

I got C - E grades in my GCSEs as well (specifically 2 Cs, 4 Ds, and 4 Es). I didn't make any sort of effort though, I gave up any and all academic efforts about halfway through year 8. Got put in various "redo your GCSEs" things in subsequent years into my early 20s, but never actually got far enough in them to resit the exams.
I did alright in college because I did BTEC music tech, and I was already highly proficient with 3 years of experience under my belt before I'd even started. Ended up with MMM, and I don't doubt that I could've gotten top marks if I'd bothered to do any of the written work. I basically min-maxed it, I aced all the practical stuff so even without doing a single bit of written work I managed to get a decent grade.

I hate Range Rovers and other types of oversized SUVs that are far too big for small British roads and parking spaces.
Some fuck in his oversized range rover lego car parks overnight on a road near my house but his stupid car is so big that it sticks about 1ft into the road. It's so fucking big that it actually causes traffic because you have to stop your car to let other people past because it's SO FUCKING HUGE that it stops 2 cars from comfortably going down the road.
I don't see the appeal, there's absolutely no utility in them because any possible storage space just becomes "extra legroom".
Pic related, a nice, sensibly sized car.

Feel the need to rant lads. It's over something fairly stupid in the grand scheme of things, but it's been lingering in the back of my mind for a while, and started really getting me down since yesterday.
I've been building a PC for my grandmother, as her old Windows 7 laptop is on its way out, and my dad asked me if I could build her a desktop PC. Ordered the parts and got it all up and running yesterday, then moved on to the OS installation part of it. I installed Windows 10 initially, thinking that it might not be as bad as I previously thought, and I can honestly say I loathe everything about it. Even putting the constant antagonistic / data-mining shit aside, it's actually really buggy. Numerous built-in features got broken in the latest big update, and I see other people with the same problems so I know it's not my (or the hardware's) fault. Not to mention, I think it's really fucking ugly, the UI looks amateur and inconsistent, and the various settings windows are simply painful to navigate.
So I formatted the drive and started again with Linux Mint, just to see how viable it would be. It's a lot better in terms of UI, data-mining, no ads, etc., but it's still not perfect, and I don't really think my grandma would get along with it. She uses some old Windows Live photo organising/editing software, and while it does have a thing that does all that, it's not very intuitive. Might have to look into some third party software, which is a lot more hit-and-miss in Linux world than it is windows. Also, largely thanks to my dad, she's hooked into the old MS Outlook ecosystem, so it might be difficult to get her over to another email client.
Thanks to Microsoft being the evil dickheads they are, Windows 7 isn't really an option any more due to them forcing PC hardware vendors to cease support, and putting it in "end of life" status next year. Windows 8.1 (which I also hate, just not as much as Windows 10) is basically in the same boat, so that's not really an option either. It's not just this build where this is a problem though, this is going to be a problem with my PC as well.
So to get to the real point of this post; I fucking love Windows 7 lads, I genuinely love it. It's the most beautiful OS I've ever used, and I've been heavily using OSs since Windows 95. I love the "aero" glassy look, it makes me feel relaxed and refreshed. I feel at peace just looking at it. I've been using Windows 7 every day for the past 9 years and it's been an absolute pleasure overall. I remember when I first used it back in 2010, when I was only 18, and it was just a wonderful experience, everything just looked and felt so much better than anything that had come before it.
I don't want to say goodbye. I want to keep using it forever, but it seems that the forces that be won't let me. Security patches I can live without, I've had updates disabled for several years anyway, but new hardware support is already winding down, and I know that software support will follow shortly. I just don't know what to do. It feels like an old friend or a close loved one of mine has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, and there's nothing I can do about it. Maybe I've just spent too many years alone with my computer, but Windows 7 has been there with me this whole time, through my various ups and downs. It's never changed its form or its function, it's been the rock that the rest of my life has leant on. Almost everything I've done in the past 9 years has been with this OS, and I'm struggling to come to terms with the painful fact that it's not going to be there for the next 9, or even the next 2.
I love you, Windows 7. Please don't leave me.

I'm going to try and post here more often from now on, even if I don't really have much to say. I'm having a hard time dealing with the whole PC/Windows thing, and I've been thinking that I really don't want this place to disappear either. I really regret not posting at times when I easily could have done so over the last couple of months, the whole past year even. I feel like I'm largely (or at least partly) responsible for the long lull in activity we've been experiencing. I've been a bit of a cunt and made almost no effort at all to respond to you lads, and I've only made maybe 1 or 2 posts that weren't replies, whereas it used to be that a third or more of all posts in any given thread were mine. It wasn't until today that I really considered what life might be like if you lot weren't always there for me.
This is pretty much the only place I can come to and talk about my day, let off steam, or just chat with you lads about random shit. I don't have any real life or online friends or associates, I only really have my parents to talk to, and the only one out of them that I can talk to about my interests and hobbies is my dad, who I rarely get to see. If this place dies then I'll once again be completely socially isolated most of the time, and while I'm sure I could soldier through it like I did during the years before I found /britfeel/, it would surely be just as miserable and depressing as it used to be, perhaps even more so. I don't want that to happen, I'd much prefer if what remains of this merry little group of shitposters, social outcasts, and eccentric individuals stuck together for as long as we're able to. We might not last forever, but I don't think it has to end any time soon.

I've been on britfeel since I was 16 and I'm now 22, it has been a big part of my pathetic life and I will never stop coming here, there's nowhere else where I can stand the people. I'll also make an effort to post more. As for Windows 10, I recently switched from 7 and there are some good things about it. Command prompt is much more usable, I use it as a music player and for other purposes that I wouldn't have bothered with on 7. Also, 10 has a very nice tiling window manager you use with windows key + arrows. I use a program called OOSU10 to disable what can be disabled of the privacy invasions, not that I ever trusted 7 any more or less than I do 10. As for the UI, I prefer the boxiness over aero and it's much more customisable. I think you may get used to it over time if you switch.

Yeah I think I could get used to it too, it's just that while I have my familiar ol' Windows 7 machine in front of me all set up just how I like it, with the ability to quickly switch between this and a brand new Windows 10 machine (that already has broken features from the latest update), 10 feels really alien and uncomfy. According to what I've been reading, 10 also apparently breaks loads of shit and resets settings every 6 months when there's a major update, have you experienced anything like that?

I've never liked the flat design trend, I also really hate tablet-style interfaces. I've been waiting years for all that sort of thing to die, back in 2012/2013 I was convinced that this was just another fad that wouldn't last long, but it's still here, and there's no sign of it going away any time soon. Maybe entering the 2020s will cause people to seek something fresher, or bring about a nostalgia for skeuomorphism. God, please let that happen, I love tastefully done skeuomorphism.

I nominate the lad who made this thread's OP, it's excellent.

Say what you will about the OS, but I really like Vista.
When I first got a computer in my bedroom, that was the OS it had. I like the look of it, for similar reasons to you liking windows 7, and I thought the start orb where it stuck out from the bar was super cool. Gives me a nostalgic feeling.

Oh I agree, Vista was a nice looking OS as well. I remember seeing the first screenshots of it in PC mags when it was still in development, and it looked so sleek and cool. I'm one of the few people that didn't have any problems with Vista, I thought it was really nice overall. I believe a lot of people's bad experiences with it came from trying to use former-XP machines (and XP-era peripherals with no Vista drivers available) to run it, at a time when computer hardware was improving hard and fast. I only ever used Vista with new hardware, and had no trouble with it at all as far as I can remember.
I guess a lot of my feelings towards Vista and 7 melded together, because they were so similar. 7 is a bit more blue-ish and colourful rather than black and yellow-tinted, and has the dock-like taskbar, but besides that it's difficult to tell them apart. It's not like XP or 95/98, which were completely different.

I haven't noticed anything break but I've only been using it for a month. When there's an update I open OOSU10 and check if it's changed anything but it hasn't yet.

I see, well I'd be grateful if you could post about anything bad or unusual that happens. It's hard to tell how things are just by looking at various other places online, opinions seem to differ vastly depending on who's answering. Some say they've never had a hitch, others say that updates have nearly bricked their systems.
I'm off to bed now though, goodnight lads.

What a nice chord progression. Do you like Spanish guitar? For me, it'd simply fantastic.

Forgive me my good lads, for I appear to have forgotten the link.
What instruments are you lads proficient in?

It's alright, not really a guitar lover personally but classical guitars have a nice sound.

I can get a tune out of anything, but I wouldn't say I'm proficient with any particular instrument. I'm best at keyboard, but I only really use it to come up with ideas for composition and for improvisational fun, not to learn songs and perform them. I'm no Jazzy Jeff, but I'm not bad at scratching either, if turntablism counts.

Been thinking about Dolequest again lads. I know it has been four years and despite having a job now I can't let it go. Went for a walk earlier and it's just been hitting me with gameplay mechanics.
> Sidescrolling beat em up
> every 'day' is a level where you aimlessly walk around town
> one day a week you go to the job centre
> in the evenings you browse 4chan
> different boards level up different stats and might give you different abilities, examples:
> /pol/ makes you stronger vs pakis
> /fa/ levels up your 'fashion sense' so you can unlock new clothes other than your raggy green frog hoodie
> /x/ gives you magic
> /r9k/ might give you an attack bonus vs women
> /out/ gives you a beard
> gameplay will involve walking down the street, sometimes making choices (do you go into the underpass where there are a pack of chavs?) (Do you give the finger to those mormons?) as well as general combat a la streets of rage
> Game will have multiple goals but will likely be open ended; eventually you'll be this fullon mega autist, maybe you can even age ingame and your magic powers deepen if you reach 30 without having virginityState==1
I dunno lads, it's nice to have a project but did i miss the bandwagon with Dolequest? I don't go on either thread anymore and the cultures of both have changed. Hope you're all doing well.

Spanish guitar is my favorite kind of guitar music. That's really nice.
Ill find one of the ones I really like and post it later.

I dunno, it sounds like a solid concept, but I don't really browse imageboards much any more besides coming here, occasionally checking in on a couple of other scarcely populated 8ch boards, and one fairly autistic general on 4/jp/ that doesn't have an 8ch alternative. I also haven't been to the job centre in years, last time I re-applied I got considered autistic enough that they don't ever need to see me or check up on me again. They just send me the bux, no questions asked.

I'm too busy at the moment, and I haven't got any ideas for the OP pic. Somebody else needs to do it, we've only got 7 or 8 posts left.

Been tinkering around more with Windows 10, got it looking a lot more familiar now by using Enterprise edition, OOSU10 (thanks for the rec lad), Open-Shell menu, and just diving deep into the settings. Can't say I like the idea of relying on third-party software to make the system more stomachable, but I guess it's not so different to the Vista days when I used to use weird things like "Circle Dock".
Only thing I haven't found is a proper replacement for the analogue clock when you click on the time. I use that a lot on 7, I find analogue clocks much easier to read and easier to calculate timings. Apparently you used to be able to unlock it in 10's registry settings, but they killed it off a couple of years ago. Wankers. Maybe I'll just buy a real one.
Anyway I'm off to bed now, goodnight lads.
